Why this way? Because _I_ am tired of not taking responsibility, of abandoning created software, of ignoring those who paid, of not listening (8 years!). Charity is OK if you want support homeless, poor, etc. But making software is a profession, so if my money will go for a software, then only for a professional programmer, who takes his/her job seriously. > We have never had a problem "donating" to open source projects I can only speak for myself, but I had and I have one and fundamental. I have no problem for paying for good quality product, with solid prospects of reliable development (because I need a tool for a job, not toy for my amusement). Take this hypothesis with a smile ;-) > So what do we who need Reveal Codes do? 4. Collect the money and "hire" a programmer for that. I would pay for this but I would have a guarantee it would not end with taking money and no product, or even with code (good quality) but rejected by OOO team (Not Invented Here Syndrome). I have to buy MS Office anyway (yes, I know, no RC, but OO is not very good in importing .doc files as you probably know), so few bucks more won't kill me (I think). Great, but in real world I don't create documents all the time, very often I download document from the web site (.doc "of course") and I only have to fill the blanks. There is also another reason to have RC -- to see why OOO display document the way it displays, e.g. this huge gap below line in the document I edit right now, is because of: a) the style of the paragraph b) attribute of this paragraph c) table cell settings d) or it is just a bug in OOO, because yesterday there was no gap? Enhancement: one switch to disable all autoreplacement features. [ ] autoreplacements -> no changes in text user typed [x] autoreplacements -> changes according to specific rules, like cell type, "autocorrections", etc. The reasons: a) there are many places to control auto-changes, so to turn it off, it takes a while b) user is never sure if there is one auto-change feature left turned on c) OOO quality of autocorrection is pretty bad, and it makes more harm than good to have it on I would stress one thing -- this settings (to make sense) has to be global. How to reproduce it, step by step: 1. create two tables, A and B, 2x2 each 2. fill each cell with some text 3. select first row in table B and copy it 4. position the caret in the last row of A, left column 5. paste 6. A is still 2x2, the last row is _replaced_ (bug) ad.6) the pasted row should be inserted because the mode is "insert" and the target row is not selected - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94970 --- Additional comments from mac...@openoffice.org Sun May 3 12:02:54 + 2009 --- I explain this by example, it is the easiest one. Let's say you have: menu _Bookmarks (accelerator b) menu item _Settings (accelerator s) and defined keyboard shortcut ctrl+s for saving doc. For any KDE app, pressing this sequence: alt+b ctrl+s does nothing. Because after alt+b bookmark menu is opened, and then any keyboard shortcut is killed. You have to press accelerator key. In case of openoffice the effect is different alt+b ctrl+s is treated as I would press alt+b s (and save is performed). But I _did not_ pressed accelerator key. So in entire environment only openoffice misbehaves, and interprets keyboard shortcut as accelerators keys. [sw-issues] [Issue 96480] [design] please make impre sswriter app instead of two
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=96480 Issue #|96480 Summary|[design] please make impresswriter app instead of two Component|Word processor Version|OOo 3.0 Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|Linux Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|FEATURE Priority|P3 Subcomponent|ui Assigned to|writerneedsconfirm Reported by|macias --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Nov 23 15:17:33 + 2008 --- [design] make impresswriter app instead of two Currently the problem is despite all the similarites those apps (writer, impress) have so much different UI. Without any benefit. What's more -- there are two apps. And let's list the differences (I mean, serious): * in impress you can have transitions between objects (an element can appear in the page after clicking, or next slide can appear) * in writer there is how many page this content will take notion, in impress you have how tiny font is required to get this content on N pages And... that's it, right? So please add to writer: * slide presentation mode * transition attributes for objects * auto-fit mode, so text would not leak to another page, but it will be shrinked instead The rest is importing templates. This way the user could work with tables, graphics, video, etc. without any worrying if this should be presentation or publication. What's more the change (publication->presentation) would be much easier because of the same exactly UI. I think those apps are so close in features that it is a pity they are so far away in UIs and how this features are delivered (compare inserting tables, the same object, fundamentally different behaviour -- no benefits, rather a lot of harm). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Mark shown always if all > document is in same language? Disappear if 1 character is in other > language? ... It is pretty straightforward really. The checkmark is shown according to user choice. This value (language) applies to any element in the document _unless_ user changes some elements directly. And if she/he did -- the language "for all document" does not change -- it is value which is "default" for document. Example: type hello świat set "for all text" -> english -> check mark is shown select "świat" and choose "polish" for selected text still, "for all text" is english, because it is the main/default language for the document as a whole If you start typing "inside" "hello" "hello" AAA will be english but if you start typing inside "świat" "świBat" BBB will be polish, because local settings have precedence over global - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. However in comment you are wrong. > 1.'replace all' will not work, that button is for > replacing all formatting. No. It is for replacing all occurrences at the same time. Remove attribute at all and replace b with nothing. Replace all -> replaced as expected. > In your tests you did not select any replacement formatting, > and so correct reaction for 'replace all' was no replacement. Nope. Because "replace all" replaces all (as the name tells). Replace -- replaces just found matched string. One replacement. Replace all -- replaces all found matched string. Max. replacaments (after this in the document that will be no matching string). And in a way OOO3 knows this. It shows the dialog "search key replaced X times" but in document there were no replacements made. "Replace all" does not work as "find all" and in this case it does -- this is a bug. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Please get rid of old, obsolete versions (1.x, 2.x), as well with introducing final product of all rc, betas, alphas. Also show normal version convention -- like numbering. ooo x.x ooo-dev x.x dev x.x x.x does not help because it is hard to find out the latest product. Where should you expect final version? There are only tricks and workarounds and it even works fine till the moment your document is going to be complex, everything slows down and it is hard to manage text because of all tricks you put to achieve simple goals. For me it was formulas -- thanks to lack of multialignment you have to put all formulas in tables to get numbers for them. But what if I have formulas in tables already? So -> this wish.
