[graphics-issues] [Issue 19340] Make different paragraph s tyles within a textbox as well as character st yles possible
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=19340 --- Additional comments from micheleza...@openoffice.org Thu Mar 26 10:44:15 + 2009 --- Hello, I do not think this is a defect but rather a new feature for Impress. I also still believe that the emphasis should be on character styles rather than paragraph styles. At present, users of Impress can (have to?) learn to appreciate a styled approach to writing a presentation/document and by allowing the creation of new paragraph styles besides the already existing ones we will lose this. Presentations created with Impress are almost automatically very consistent in their appearance, something that every user appreciates and that comes as a freebie. On the other hand, in my experience I found the lack of character styles that may be used to emphasise sections of the text consistently across a presentation a very bad shortcoming and something that makes people doubt about the level of integration of the various components of OOo. To reproduce the problem (unfortunately it takes a while, if desired I can provide an attachment). Associate Numbering 1 List style to Numbering 1 Start, Numbering 1 Cont and Numbering 1 End paragraph styles. Associate List 1 List style to List 1 Start, List 1 Cont and List 1 End paragraph styles. Open a new document and create the following paragraphs allocating the style indicated in brackets: text (Numbering 1 Start) text (Numbering 1 Cont) text (List 1 Start) text (List 1 Cont) text (List 1 End) text (Numbering 1 Cont) text (Numbering 1 End) Demote the List 1 paragraphs by one level so that it will look like this: 1. text (Numbering 1 Start) 2. text (Numbering 1 Cont) * text (List 1 Start) * text (List 1 Cont) * text (List 1 End) 3. text (Numbering 1 Cont) 4. text (Numbering 1 End) Now save the file and reload it from disk. The list changes to the following: 1. text (Numbering 1 Start) 2. text (Numbering 1 Cont) * text (List 1 Start) * text (List 1 Cont) * text (List 1 End) 1. text (Numbering 1 Cont) < numbering reset to one 2. text (Numbering 1 End) NOTE 1: this is a serious bug for people working on the OOoAuthors documentation as, from version 3 onwards we use paragraph styles to manage lists. NOTE 2: OOo2.4.1 does not exhibit this behaviour (it has a different issue which I may file if I find the time). NOTE 3: if you first create the numbered list 1 to 4 and then paste inside the bullet list the file is saved and reopened correctly. Please take a look at the rest of the comment and let me know if you spot a mistake. Cheers, Michele Assumptions --- 1) A small part of the strings to be fixed for this issue have also been provided to the localization team. 2) The localization team knows that they have to translate the term "sheet" as recommended in this issue Process --- 1) the corrected strings for this issue are input in the DB before step 2. 2) the DB is updated with the new strings coming from pootle Note: given assumption 1 some of the strings provided in the .sdf files for this issue will be overwritten when the pootle strings get integrated, but given assumption 2 this is OK. I have to follow these steps *for each word*: 1) select the word 2) pull down the font colour selector 3) select the colour If the font colour menu could remain unchanged I would have to follow the above procedure for the first word, after which I could simply: 1) select the word 2) click on the font colour icon in the standard toolbar. I am not very happy with the idea of allowing custom paragraph styles. You can modify the 9 existing one as well as insert "normal" text boxes (not autolayout ones). What is really missing in my opinion is the ability of defining and applying character styles (e.g. hyperlink, coloured text, emphasis, quotes, monospace for code and so on.) In summary I think the summary of the issue should be something like "add the capability in Impress to create, modify and apply character styles" Cheers, Michele - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 19340] RFE: Apply different style s to sections of text within a textbox
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=19340 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Apr 23 19:49:40 + 2008 --- Could the description of the issue be changed in something referencing character styles availability within Impress? I think this would avoid the proliferation of duplicate issues. Also I would like to report here some excerpts from the comments made on issue 57296 which I think give a better idea of what is needed. -- Redux in January 2007 i would particularly welcome this functional addition in order to get far better presentation-level handling of things like consistent hyperlink colours...at the moment, it seems backwards having to either manually recolour each hyperlink, or setting the entire OpenOffice suite's link appearance in the preferences. -- nemoresus in March 2007 I fully agree, impress can do a bunch of text formatting but its style support sucks. It does not have paragraph styles either, only some hardcoded styles applied to the whole text of text-boxes ! One can use style by inserting a OOo-text object but styles are not shared between them (and it makes editing way more painfull). Presentations are not only used as "one shot" eye catching things, their consistency is also important for some people! -- jvromans in March 2007 Seconded. Not having character styles is a BIG omission. I produce a lot of training materials for Impress and maintaining consistent styles is a pain. Also, not having character and paragraph styles undermines the statement that OOo is a single, consistent program instead of a conglomeration of loose tools, like MSO is (or must I say, was?). -- aschwarzie in May 2007 The lack of character styles or the ability to easily copy and paste character formating is a significantly impacting weakness, especially when it comes to polishing the elements of a bulleted list, by "highlighting" key words. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. No problem up to OOo2.0.3, but starting from OOo2.0.4rc5 the buttons (and only the buttons) flicker on the screen when the dialog box is invoked. To reproduce you need to: 1. set the desktop appearance to "Windows Classic" 2. create in starBasic a macro with one commandButtons 3. change the background colour of this button 4. write the code that calls the dialog 5. call the dialog and observe the button. [graphics-issues] [Issue 53733] appear-dim with colour cu stom animations does not have any delay

In the text animation tab select by first level paragraph. Play the animation and you will see that the colour changes immediately. Now "technically" I guess it works ok (the animation appear finishes and the colour changes), but actually the desired behaviour is that the colour of the item x changes when item x+1 appears on the screen. Maybe I am not checking a box or something like this, but at present the "dim with colour" option seems a waste of time. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=53733 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Sep 12 03:12:58 -0700 2005 --- hello JK, I am referring to the custom animation Appear. In the animation settings (effect options) in the second drop down (After animation) you may decide to dim the text after it has appeared. Now, the way this effect works is as follows (at least that's how *I think* it should work): - the text appears - when the next animation is played, the text changes colour to the one you selected (normally the text is greyed out so that people stop reading it and know what bullet point you are discussing). The way it works now instead is practically the same of a rapid sequence of appear + change font colour. Note also (mabye it should be another issue, or more likely I should read the manual) it seems not possible to interleave animated text so that I could re-create the effect I wanted by having 1. the first bullet point appear on the screen 2. the second bullet point appear on the screen and at the first bullet point change colour etc... -- repeat for all the bullet points) I hope I have been a bit clearer now, if not please don't hesitate to write again: I think it is important to fix this.
