[dba-issues] [Issue 93071] Autorecover: changes to au to-recovered file lost after closing OOO
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=93071 --- Additional comments from pancapangra...@openoffice.org Sat Dec 13 21:25:46 + 2008 --- Ok, closing in, hopefully: I have had the described issue again. I was after a full fledged crash which I actually triggered in Calc (by inserting fields, which is a efficient way in m37 if u do it repeatedly) while Base was running as well. In this crash autorecover got active before the restart, stored files to disk before closing down, and then automatically restarted OO and offered recover files (in previous attempts to trigger the problem I had simply killed base - in that case autorecover only gets active on restarting OO, it doesn't save anything). I did consciously save both the query into the (autorecovered) database and the database itself after the query was closed. The query was gone after I restarted the original database-file (from the file-manager). Best .r. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=93071 --- Additional comments from pancapangra...@openoffice.org Fri Dec 12 15:24:42 + 2008 --- I am sorry, I have difficulties myself at the moment, to reproduce this issue. Maybe I have to wait until a real crash happens. Currently I kill (OSXs 'Force Quit') base to trigger autorecover, and the problem doesn't seem to occur. On the other hand I am absolutely sure, that this does occur under some circumstances and at least two other users have observed something similar. Drew Jensen confirmed the issue for 3.0 with two comments: - if you turn off auto-recovery information auto save this will stop happening. - I haven't tried this with 3.0.1 pre-release so can't say if it's already fixed. Currently I cannot toggle the behaviour the way Drew indicates with his first point... So currently I see no alternative to waiting until this happens again. The same thing does not occure e.g. in Calc. - It has been confirmed a second time (by Drew Jensen) a) to exist and b) not to be Aqua specific. - I find it is not always cleanly reproducible in OO3 but it seems to be so in m37. Additionally you are warned in m37, because the window-bar of the main base-window does indicate that one is currently using the temporary file named dbname_01.odb (and not the original database-file, as one would expect). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The issue is still there. When this happens (which is admittedly very rare) it can destroy a lot of work unrecoverably. I repeat a somewhat rephased description of the issue, maybe I couldn't make myself understood well the last time: - crash a database (well, we need a crash). - restart and let autorecovery do its job. It should open the database you were working in for you (at least that is what appears to happen). - create a new query and save it. - close the database. - reopen it: the query you created after the crash-recovery is gone. This is, because crash-recovery does not open your original database for you, but a copy (called something like dbname_01.odb). After crash-recovery you work in that temporary file (without knowing it), all you modifications are saved to that file. When you close OO, this file is deleted and your work gone. The original file will open as if nothing had happened. One doesn't meet tis issue too often, because Base doesn't crash too often (for me), but if it happens it can be quite catastrophic... I posted this issue to the dba-users-mailinglist and one other user reported that he had also met this issue on OSX. I do find this a serious problem, so I raise priority and reassign to dbaneedsconfirm. As a matter of fact the gravis problem also occurs in a normal writer-document - I wasn't aware of this myself. But there is a maybe revealing difference between the behaviour on a normal Writer-page and in the MultiLineEdit-Field: 1. - in Writer if I type 'a'+'´'+' '+'a'+'a'+'a'+'ö' the result will be 'aö' and nothing else - the three a's I entered beween space and ö as well as the (wrong) second gravis are discarded. The characters I have found sofar that trigger the replacement of ` are öäüÖÄÜ and also ^°. - in the MultiLineEdit field this discarding does not occure, i.e. the result of above input is aö`aaa. So the wrong gravis is not removed, the 3 a remain and the cursor is behind the ö. 2. On the Austrian and German key there are 4 deadkeys I know of: gravis, acutus, hacek and umlaut. All three allow to input accented vowels like â ú è ï - of these *only* the gravis shows the reported missbehaviour. Nither in the SQL-editor of Base nor in the tools/options/user-data dialog you can skip the cursor wordwise by pressing alt-right/left arrow. This is a nuisance in the SQL-Editor because moving the cursor along a long line characterwise takes a long time. There is also no way to jump to the line-end or beginning with a single key-combination. (just to make sure: alt-arrow is the standard on mac. Ctrl-arrow (the standard on other plattforms) just moves the cursor on a character at a time on the Mac. Command-arrow does nothing) According to Maximimilian Odendahl this is could be a general MultiLineEdit issue on the Mac. Looks good. press gravis then space -> `` Thats not ok but not a big issue press gravis then space then a few letters then a 'Umlaut' vowel, e.g. ö or ä: the ö or ä will appear at the place of the initial gravis, replacing it and taking the cursor along. I bumped into this because formal SQL expects gravis as table- and field-name delimiters, and in the current state it is virtually impossible to do it as the cursor seems to be erratically magnetized by that initial gravis. I report this in gsl on recommendation of Maximilian Odendahl. I do not know the proper subcomponent nor whether this is OS-specific or not. [dba-issues] [Issue 93055] SQL-Editor has various iss ues, mainly keyboard, but also screen refresh inside editor-window (working with MySQL)
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=93055 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Aug 24 11:03:29 + 2008 --- Thank you mod, for looking into this. I'm glad to see that issue-reporting is being followed up and will try my best to be clear. I would love to see a reliably working db-appl in OO-3. Please note that finding this in the aqua-build of Open-office. I am not sure whether I was clear enough on this - and also - in the issue tracker only Mac OSX is offered as OS choice, a distinction between X11 and Aqua cannot be made there. As to the issues: Keyboard: - the accent gravis problem: can you reproduce that? This is certainly a bug.. - the cursor control: let me compare to a Writer document: in Writer - on aqua - if I press command- right-arrow the cursor will jump to the end of the line, if command-left-arrow, to the beginning. Alt- right-arrow will move the cursor a word forward and alt-left arrow to the beginning of the previous word (ctrl-arrow does nothing). Wenn selecting text by combining a modifier-key with shift, on aqua only the combination command-shift leads to a result in Writer: it will select/block wordwise (command-shift-left-arrow: a word to the left, c-s-r-a: wordwise right. Cursor-movement and selection-movement isn't isn't treated consistently, but well, one can live with that. In the SQL-Editor window wordwise-*selecting* with command-shift-left/right-arrow does work. But moving the cursor with comman-left/righ-arrow to the beginning/end of the line does not work, nor wordwise jumping with alt-left/right-arrow. The current behaviour is as follows: command- left/right-arrow: the cursor does not move at all. Alt-left-right-arrow: the cursor does not move at all. Ctrl-left/right-arrow the cursor moves one character (as if no modifier-key was used). Regarding screen-refresh: I meet this issue constantly in my work, but I cannot reproduce it reliably, so I can't say exactly under which circumstances it turs up. So I will report again once I am able to reproduce it. I guess I should file a dedicated issue for that. But there is something in the bush there, I can guarantee that, I have the issue in one out of ten queries, but maybe again it is Aqua-build specific. I hope this helps, would be lovely if it got fixed quickly. Best .p. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Try the following: - Work on a database. Provoke a crash, e.g. by saving a query under a new name that already exists either as table or query (using a current but for the test :)). - Crash recovery will get active and restore the database. - Changes you made to the file before the crash will be lost - that's sad, but that's not the bug I am refering to. - At this point crash recovery will not tell you, that you are currently not working within your original database file but with a temporary file named databasename_01.odb which is stored in the user-profile in .../databases/, the same folder as the biblio database. - Keep working a bit in this recovered database. - Save your changes and quit as normal. - Reopen your original database. 1. Changes you made after datag-recovery will not be there. 2. The temporary recovery-file in the user-profile is gone. So your latest work is lost. Apparently the crash-recovery mechanism doesn't write the temporary recovery-file to the original database but continues using the temporary file. Yet after closing this file it is deleted and with it all work since last crash recovery. [dba-issues] [Issue 93056] When working with MySQL: q uery has to bes stored as view on server befor it can be loaded into another query
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=93056 Issue #|93056 Summary|When working with MySQL: query has to bes stored as vi |ew on server befor it can be loaded into another query Component|Database access Version|OOO300m3 Platform|Macintosh URL| OS/Version|Mac OS X Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P2 Subcomponent|none Assigned to|dbaneedsconfirm Reported by|pancapangrawit --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Aug 23 20:00:11 + 2008 --- If you create a query and try to use this query in another query you will get an error saying that the 'table' does not exist, although it was possible to choose this query in the table-select dialog at query-design. Only when the source-query is stored as view on the server can it be used inside a base query. This might be necessary, but then it shouldn't be possible to load the source query through the standard dialogue. In this connection: it is not possible to rename a view stored on the server. That makes view-handling quite unpractical. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Most serious: Engering gravis (as field-name delimitor) the cursor will somehow get caught. After entering another character the cursor jumps back to the gravis accent. Less serious but annoying: the control-keys command and alt combined with arrows don't work as usually (jumping words and the like). Maybe unrelated, but also a SQL-Editor issue: the screen refresh insid the editor window sometimes doesn't work properly. In such a case it is necessary to move the cursor to the (invisible) end of the text and enter a new-line. Then the text will become visible again. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I reboot, and fire up OOO (waiit) :-) 2. I click the floating window styles. I can push it around for a lng time (almost as long as an OOO-startup) - all seems fine 3. I continue pushing around the window - after maybe 2 minutes the floating window freezes for a few seconds and then recovers - but I cannot return to the main window any more - it's dead 4. I have to kill Writer. I make sure any OOO-process is killed and restart Writer 5. I open the styles-floating window, I try to push it around, it instantly freezes (no patience). I can reproduce this on my machine. This means - the bug is very difficult to find now (be patient the first time) - it survives a full OOO-restart and shows up instantly the second time!! The mouse recovers after a few seconds, even the floating window can be moved again, but the program-window doesn't come back. Maybe it's a bug in the 'Address-book data-source-WIZARD' now - that's where I tried it the first time. I could select a profile, fine. As to the table I selected after that (out of my 3 thunderbird-address-tables) a) I couldn't do field-assignment the first time b) it didn't stick (when I later ran the mail-merge-wizard no address-table was preselected) and c) I use German Ooo: my address-book is called PersÃnliches AdreÃbuch - the Umlaut à and 'Ã' are represented as '('. So after adding the necessary selections in mail-merge-wizard everything works and sticks. Only the cosmetical Ã=( issue remains. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=20088 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Mar 26 10:38:28 -0800 2005 --- fasse, you can explicitely choose Thunderbird Addressbook now under external data-sources, I think that is what mathiasotto did. Yes, Mathias, it's also buggy for me, no field-assignment possible and no database-file gets saved. If you are looking for a workaround (rather than just report the bug): for me it's possible to register the thunderbird-addressbook as a general type of external data-source (rather than "the" address-source). Once you saved a database-file for that, you can point the address-book wizard to the allready existing database-file. After that, when you use the mail-merge wizard, you can assign fields.
