The text:start-value attribute of the text:notes-configuration element is set
to one less than what the user
has entered in Tools-Footnotes/endnotes. The default is 0. Despite this
footnote numbering in the text
starts at 1. Moreover, both the start-values 0 and 1, as entered by the user,
lead to the value 0 for the
text:start-value attribute. Open the attached document in KOffice to see the
difference.

Anchor elements are styled using the style Internet Link. However, there is
no explicit association with
this style on the anchor elements, i.e. there is no text:style-name attribute.
This is not portable, because
links will look different in another ODF-tool if it doesn't follow the same
convention. There is no basis for
such a convention in the specification.

text:a has the attributes style:style-name and style:visited-style-name. Those
should point to the
corresponding styles. Format.Character affects the text inside the link and
will produce a text:span
element.

Internet Link and Visited Internat Link appear in the list of styles the
user can see. The user can modify
them, in a template for example. This possibility makes no sense if the styles
are not associated with the
generated text:a elements, because the document is not portable. The
consequence of what you say is that
Internet Link and Visited Internet Link should not be available to the user.

When you create a bullet list and choose diamonds, the generated document will
have the bullet-char
attribute set to the Unicode character U+E00C, which is from the Private Use
Area. The consequence is that
the document is not portable. The user can of course change the bullet
character to U+25C6. This should
be the default.

I agree with the style concept. The list of options should just also include
normal and it should be the
default instead of 100%. If fact Single should correspond to normal and 1.5
and double should be derived
from that. In that case 100% is just a possible value the user can type in.
That means if issue 116887 is
fixed, this issue doesn't need fixing. It only needs fixing if Single
continues to correspond to 100%.

When using the Line spacing option Proportional the property fo:line-height
is generated. However, its
value is not interpreted correctly. The actual height of a line is always about
20% too high.

The XSL-FO 1.0 specification for this property says that a percentage value is
a percentage of the font-
size. The ODF 1.1 specification says it is a percentage of the highest
character on a line. The ODF 1.2 no
longer says the latter, but merely refers to XSL-FO.

For example, when setting the value to 100%, which seems to be the value used
when choosing Single,
there should be no space between the line boxes, while in OOo there is. This
can be verified by exporting
a document to HTML and rendering it in a browser, or by opening the document in
KOffice 1.6.3.

When the line spacing option is not touched for a paragraph there is no
fo:line-height property for its
style. In that case the default is normal. In the paragraph property dialog
box the option Single is
shown, making it look like it is the default. However, when you change the line
spacing to another
option, save the document, reopen it and change back to Single, the paragraph
style will have the
fo:line-height property with the value 100%. This is not the same as
normal, though it looks the
same (it shouldn't, see also
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=116887).

In fact it is not possible to turn back to the default line spacing option
normal. I think this option
should be added to the list, because as soon as the user has touched line
spacing it is no longer
possible to revert to a consistent value across the document. This will be
visible when the document is
exported to formats which also use the property line-height.

The attached document causes OOo to freeze on Windows XP SP3 and Ubuntu 10.04.
On Mac OS X 10.6.6 it
opens correctly.

When OOo is killed after the freeze and reopened, the recovery of the document
succeeds and it opens
correctly.

It seems that the table:id attribute on a table:cell-content-change element
should have the format
ctnumber, where the number should be 1 or higher. Any other pattern causes
the tracked changes to
disappear, visually as well as in the Accept or Reject list.

This is not compliant with the ODF-specification, which declares this attribute
to be just a string. This puts
an unnecessary constraint on a diff-tool for spreadsheets.

When a header contains an image, the conversion to Word 97 (.doc) produces a
document where
everything but the image is in the header.

Turn on outline numbering and make two level one headings separated by a
numbered list containing at
least two items. Then set restart numbering on the second heading. Its number
will be 1.. Then set
continue previous numbering for the same heading. It will now have the number
that follows the number
of the last list item instead of the first heading. The numbering of the second
heading will also take over
the numbering style of the list. The ODF-spec says you can only continue
numbering from a preceding
element if the list style is the same, which is not the case here.

I have version OOO320m12.

I have first rechecked the issue in my current build and it still occurs. I
installed OOO320m4 (Build: 9450),
but there is no Dutch language pack for it. Then I downloaded and installed the
3.1.1 Dutch language
pack, hoping I could choose the developer build to install it against, but that
was not the case. The good
news is that in the OOO310m19 build the problem has gone away. So the
reinstallation of the language
pack solved it. It is a pity I don't know which language pack version was
installed before. Would it be
possible that the language pack stopped working after the update of OOo to
version 3.1.1, which was an
automatic update I presume?

Reinitializing the user directory in Application support solves the issue.
Thank you!

Because this directory is suspicious I have put it at
https://re.pincette.net/doc/share/t.zip. Perhaps you
can reproduce the problem with it.

Hi Cor,

I also tried it with a presentation and a spreadsheet and the problem also
occurs. Renaming the user data
directory, which causes reinitialization, doesn't help.

This is on Windows XP SP3.

Best regards,

Since I have it only on one machine I can imagine you have to be lucky to
reproduce the problem. Is
there some setting or perhaps command-line option to produce more output that
is useful for you?

The crash is not involved with the incident itself. When clicking on the icon
in the tray I just get the error
message about the browser, while OOo seems to know where the browser is
(Preview in browser). The
crash I have is when opening the extension manager. I can't tell if this is
related. I have the crash
reporting feature on and a report was sent about it.

When clicking on the update extensions icon in the tray I get the error message
that OOo can't find a web
browser. However, the Preview in browser functions works perfectly. I have
this since version 3.1 and it
is still in 3.1.1. I also have a Mac Mini on which this problem doesn't occur.

On Windows XP SP3, when I switch to Dutch (Netherlands) and open the

the custom properties causes OOo to crash. This bug is reproducible. It doesn't
occur when using the

When a conversion from ODF to HTML is launched remotely through Uno using an
input and an output
stream, it is not possible to obtain the images. Images are usually separate
entities and it would be
difficult to send them over the same output stream as the document itself,
unless a multipart/related
message is produced. This is however more difficult to process for the client.

A rather simple alternative is to embed the images in the generated HTML
document using the data URL
scheme described in RFC 2397.

When the attached document is saved as Word 97/2000/XP, the result can't be
opened in Office 2007. It
says some table was corrupted. The document can be re-imported in OOo however.
This was in version
3.1.0m11.

Create a new document, open the file properties dialog and add nine properties.
The last one will not fit in
the view port of the table. Close the dialog and open it again. Add more
property rows with the Add
button. The rows will not be added after the last property. Sometimes they are
added at the bottom of the
table pane, leaving a gap between the already existing properties and the new
row. Sometimes nothing
seems to be added, but the table pane grows any way. If you continue adding, at
some point all the new
rows will become visible. There will also be a gap in the table pane.

I'm now using version 3.1.0 and the problem also exists there.

There seems to be a difference when running the server process on Windows or
Solaris. When the server
disappears on Solaris the client is not locked, while when the same happens
with a server process on
Windows the client remains locked.

The office:date-value attribute of table:table-cell should comply to
http://www.w3.org/TR/2001/REC-
xmlschema-2-20010502/#dateTime. When such a timestamp contains a time zone
indicator it is not
interpreted correctly when the document is opened. All those timestamps are set
to 12/30/1899
00:00:00. This is an example:

table:table-cell office:date-value=2009-05-04T11:39:45Z office
:value-type=date/

This also happens when the TZD has the form +/-hh:mm.

When a client is using an OOo server process, for example to run a conversion,
it will go in a deadlock if the connection with the server process disappears,
for example by killing the latter.

Other ODF tools which are compliant with respect to this can produce documents
that can't be loaded in
OOo. That is the interoperability problem.

Theoretically there is no reason why it shouldn't open, but there may be
assumptions elsewhere in the
code about this restriction. For example, I have manually changed the name of a
user field from test to
te/st. The document still loads, but when I double click on the field the
name in the dialog is te.

I have selected only one cell with Table-Select-Cells. Then I did
Table-Table Properties to change the
spacing. If you then select one cell at the time and look to the properties,
you see the spacing is different
for the cells.

I also checked the ODF itself to see if the spacing was set properly.

Create a table with one row and two columns. Set the spacing to contents of
the second cell to 0. Type some text in both cells. You will see the top spacing
is the same for both cells, while the text should be shifted to the top in the
second cell.

For text this is not useful of course, but for nested tables it is important. It
will cause a misalignment of the text in the nested table with respect to the
text in the parent table.

Create a table with one row and two columns. Insert another table in the second
cell and give it also one row and two columns. Insert yet another table in the
second cell of the second table. If you put the cursor in the first cell of the
second table you can select that complete table. Now, remove the empty paragraph
that follows the third table. The selection of the complete second table will no
longer be possible. Only its first cell will be selected.

When inserting a field the Name input field doesn't allow to enter certain
characters such as punctuation marks or a dash.

In ODF a field is represented by a user-field-get element, which has the
name attribute carrying the field name. The definition of this attribute is a
string without further restrictions. Any character that is allowed in an XML
attribute value should be allowed in the input field.

The unnecessary restrictions can make it harder to exchange ODF documents
between tools.

I have started soffice with the following command-line:

 soffice -headless -norestore -accept=socket,host=0,port=2;urp;
-env:UserInstallation=file:///tmp/tt

/tmp/tt is an existing directory.

The process starts and waits, but a client gets Connection refused, which
leads me to think the socket isn't bound in soffice. When I leave out the
UserInstallation option the client can connect.

With the UserInstallation directory set to /tmp/tt I see the user subdirectory
is created with everything in it, but there is no .lock file, which would be
the case with the default user directory.

PS: I see no point in locking when soffice is in headless mode.

[sw-issues] [Issue 93031] Setting UserInstallation p revents binding the socket

I have compared what is inside the generated user directory and a normal
user directory. The difference that matters is the file
registry/data/org/openoffice/Setup.xcu. More specifically, when the field
FirstStartWizardCompleted is absent or set to false and the
LicenseAcceptDate absent it doesn't work and otherwise it does.

I understand those fields are set when you first run soffice and that the
headless mode is not able to pop up the required dialogs to do it.

[sw-issues] [Issue 92001] A frame element shows repl acement when there is no link to it

There is another inconsistency which proves the double-click by the user is not
always necessary. When I convert this document to Word 97 and PDF with UNO, I
see that in the former case the replacement image is used, while in the latter
the chart is rendered properly. The Word user will end up with an unrendered
chart and is not able to activate it.

I disagree. First of all when the ObjectReplacements directory is not present
the chart is shown without
any double-click. Second, how can it know there is a replacement image in
ObjectReplacements if there is
no link to it in draw:frame? According to the spec object replacements are
declared in the frame.

It is obvious that only the interactive update of an embedded object is forseen
in OpenOffice. Automatic
generation of documents or automatic transformation of documents should be
taken into account as well.
Imagine a document with tens of charts is generated. Do you expect the user who
wants to view it to
double-click on all the charts?

The attached document contains a draw:frame in which there is one draw:object.
The alternative draw:image element has been deleted. Despite this, when opening
the document, the alternative representation is still shown. When I delete it
from ObjectReplacements it is no longer shown. There seems to be an implicit
reference to the replacement, which I think is not allowed according to the
spec.

The use-case is the transformation of an empty chart. After the transformation
the chart is filled with data. When opening the document one has to double-click
on it in order to see the filled chart. Until then the replacement image of the
empty chart is shown.

In the print dialog box it seems to be impossible to choose the paper size. This
is annoying when the printer only supports A4 and the document is set in Letter
for example.

The workaround is to choose to have the document opened in Preview, where you
can select the paper size when printing.

The way the line is tokenized doesn't seem to be documented in the Writer
Guide. You can be more
lenient by trying semicolons first, then commas and then white space.

In File-Properties-Description there is a field called Keywords. The
complete contents of that field is saved in a single meta:keyword element, while
the ODF specification says that one such element should be used per keyword.
Either the line should be tokenized or keywords should be presented in a
different way.

To an end-user this issue probably doesn't mean much. For a CMS, however, this
may be very relevant, because it may use the keywords for document management
purposes.

Why is the number of user-defined properties limited to four? There is no such
limit in ODF, since there can be as many meta:user-defined elements as you want.
The user-defined properties tab could present a dynamic table of name/value
pairs.

With only for properties it is difficult to use OOo in the meta-data subsystem
of a serious content management system.

With respect to this, there is no difference between 2.4 and 3.0 beta.

I use the official 2.3.1 build for Linux, but my Suse is older than yours. It
is just version 10.0.

I have downloaded the attachment and tried to open it again. Now it works fine
(and much faster than with
2.0). I suppose there was some intermittent condition on my machine. Next time
I'll reboot first. Sorry for
the inconvenience.

The document I will attach after this issue has been created doesn't open in
writer 2.3.1 on Suse 10. Writer hangs and consumes a lot of CPU. After several
minutes I have to kill the process.

The document contains a large table with a lot of small nested tables.
