[amsat-bb] Re: QSOs in LOTW, and a question
Shouldn't is show as a Satellite contact under the propagation Mode? I don't think it is band specific is it for VUCC. Joe KI4TZ Ted wrote: Well, Patrick, I don't have an answer for your question, but the question brings up another old issue. My brand new LoTW VUCC account shows 11 sat contacts and 2 440mhz contacts (sat contacts). So, some are uploading sat contacts as 440 contacts and some as 2m contacts. Same issue on eQSL. I had this debate with someone here awhile back. It seems to me that the consensus is that we log an FM sat contact as a 440 contact. But some want to log as a 2m contact since the tx was on 2m. We better have some conformity on this or some of the LoTW data will not match I'm going to continue to use paper until I get my VUCC Satellite, but it would save a lot of trouble in the future if we all get on the same page 73, K7TRK listening -Original Message- From: amsat-bb-boun...@amsat.org [mailto:amsat-bb-boun...@amsat.org] On Behalf Of Patrick STODDARD (WD9EWK/VA7EWK) Sent: Thursday, January 20, 2011 6:38 PM To: amsat-bb@amsat.org Subject: [amsat-bb] XE2/WD9EWK QSOs in LOTW, and a question Hi! I just uploaded all of my XE2/WD9EWK satellite QSOs to LOTW. Only 242 QSOs, and it took me about 20 minutes to massage my spreadsheet log into an ADIF file suitable for LOTW. Upon uploading my QSOs, I had 32 QSLs from 242 QSOs. Not bad at all! I will keep at it tonight, trying to get some of my Canadian QSOs (as VA7EWK and CJ7EWK) into LOTW this evening. The PDF by N5JB was extremely helpful. I uploaded only the 7 fields necessary to make an LOTW QSO entry, even though I have a lot more data for each QSO in my spreadsheet. I have a question for those who have uploaded AO-16 QSOs to LOTW. For the Mode field, do you use FM as the mode you transmitted, SSB for the mode you received, or something else? Just trying to make sure I get this one right, since I have some AO-16 QSOs as CJ7EWK (and a bunch more as WD9EWK). Thanks in advance, and 73! Thanks to those who have responded to my post when I made my first uploads to LOTW. I had asked about what mode I should use when uploading AO-16 QSOs, since that is a cross-mode satellite (that's how I worked it - FM up, SSB down). I have heard about what to set the BAND field, and N5JB's document makes it pretty clear that you use the band you transmit on for that field. I am not uploading fields beyond the 7 necessary to make a valid LOTW QSO record, so other fields like FREQ and FREQ_RX don't matter. My guess is that, if I follow the way the BAND field is handled for satellite QSOs in LOTW, I would use the mode I transmitted with for the MODE field. In the case of AO-16, that would be FM. N5JB's document mentions an additional field BAND_RX that some may use. I have not seen any mention of a MODE_RX field, but I will go with MODE as the mode from my transmitter unless I get some authoritative information to the contrary. I will proceed to uploading CJ7EWK QSOs from November 2008, and try to get all of my July 2010 VA7EWK QSOs - including those at the Canada/USA border - done tonight. Then the huge task of the WD9EWK QSOs. By the way, is SO-67 still a no-go in LOTW? 73! Patrick WD9EWK/VA7EWK http://www.wd9ewk.net/ ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. Perhaps one of the smart guys that make TNCs from uP can include some search and replace code in the digi path ? Add another option Satellite SGATE DIGI Search for SGATE replace with WIDE2-1 or preserve the SGATE as well. Maybe a satellite robot can be made like I did years ago with a PIC chip It listened for SGATE to come in on the serial line , (ie satellite in range) and the TX for 10 minutes every minute then went back to sleep. Maybe we need to launch a satellite that triggers ground stations, and then relays the list ? The ground unit could be considered a transponder itself. Maybe the sat could have some smarts and POLL heard ground stations ? Maybe the ground transponders could have a lock light. I see the ground device as being a simple radio and a uP style TNC Just a few ideas. The best satellite I liked was dove i thnk its was ? Just straight packet down ? [amsat-bb] Video: very low bitrate digital voice communications
I'm sure many of you are very interested in the current state of Codec2, the open-source, low-bitrate voice codec that is being led by David Rowe VK5DGR. If so, I'd like to draw your attention to the following video that ZL3IN and I made over the past weekend, which comprises the actual audio of our first meeting over the Internet, using codec2 bitstreams. I hope you'll agree that this alpha-level software is very usable right now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_k-nhHE6CrI Our conversation was conducted using a bash script that I wrote to provide simple codec2 voice communication over the Internet. Since October, I've been spending what would normally be my ham time working on that, or trying to help improve the c2 performance on low-power CPUs. Codec2 could be very important to AMSAT's future. Running currently at 2500 bps, and aiming for 2400 bps with FEC, it could make satellite voice communication comprise a smaller bandwidth, offering less demanding downlink systems. Because it is open source, the codec could even be implemented in the satellite, perhaps to provide voice-encoded telemetry for a FUNcube-like project of the future. The Codec2 site is http://www.rowetel.com/blog/?page_id=452 The source files of my conversation with ZL3IN, and many ancillary c2 materials are available on my blog: http://ve9qrp.blogspot.com 73, Bruce VE9QRP ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] EM06/EM07/EM16/EM17
Hello all, I will be at the four corners of EM06/EM07/EM16/EM17 tomorrow (1/22) afternoon starting around 2100z. I can only get to 2 grids at a time, so I think I will do EM06/EM07 and EM16/EM17. I will be in EM06 when I am not at the corner, so there's a possibility I will be on other sats this weekend. Here are the passes that I can be on: EM06/EM07 AO-51 21:30Z - 21:44Z FO-29 21:54Z - 22:13Z (look for me around 435.870 +-10) EM16/EM17 AO-51 23:08Z - 23:23Z FO-29 23:39Z - 23:59Z - 73, Tyler Nicholas K5TDN ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org.
