[amsat-bb] AO7-Excess transmit power
Yesterday I was working/listening and waiting AO7 SSB VHF/UHF, One station was booming in. Call sign intentionally not posted to skip their possible embarrassment. Midway thru the pass the signals went dead. No receive at all. If I recall from reading my theory he was likely hitting bird with 100 watts and used up the batteries in bird. Am I on track? [amsat-bb] OSCAR-11 Reports Requested for Wednesday May 25
Hi, OSCAR-11 is off at the present time. I'm expecting it to switch on during Wednesday May 25th at about 05:17 UTC, when the satellite is out of range for UK. I would appreciate any reception reports for next Wednesday before and after that time. It is equally important whether you are reporting heard or NOT heard. When the satellite last switched off, it happened during a pass over UK, and I was able to get a precise time of switch off. Reports on Wednesday will help me improve the accuracy of future predictions. I agree that many people use too much power. But, remember it is not just the output power that counts, it is also affected by the antenna gain. 10W into a dipole is about the same in terms of effective radiated power as 1W into a 12-13 dB gain Yagi. I was able to meet up with Col. Wheelock as well - that was so cool! We stood in a 20 MINUTE - not hour - line, and I was able to get his signature on the boom of my Arrow antenna - the same antenna I worked him on last July.
