[amsat-bb] AO-7 DX
Hello All, I was quite surprised today to work Neil, ES6DO in Estonia just before 18:00Z on AO-7 mode B. I was listening to that pass with the hopes of working a few UK stations I heard a few days ago, and was just about to shut the rig down at the end of the pass, when I heard a CW station calling CQ. At first I though it was an Irish station with an EI prefix, but two dits turned out to be three - ES rather than EI! With less than one minute to make the contact on that pass, it all worked out with a new grid and new DX in my log, and Neil's first VE QSO. Many thanks Neil! ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] AO-7 Operation
Hello All, I heard something interesting earlier today while monitoring an AO-7 pass above my QTH at around 23:30Z. The mode B (U/V) transponder basically went dead, and I heard a very odd buzzing sound in about the centre of the passband, with no activity anywhere else in the passband. Not a typical FMing sound, but something more akin to auroral buzzing, like on 6 metres. We have had some great visible auroral shows at my latitude lately (57 degrees north), and I wonder if the solar wind causing the aurora may have had an effect on old AO-7. Did anyone else hear this? Any thoughts on what was happening? I see from the live Oscar update web page that Russian Hams reported normal mode B operation subsequent to my observations. As an aside, after repair of an intermittent in the UHF finals of my ICOM 820H and replacement of the N connector, I am fully QRV again on the birds, and look forward to giving out grid DO16 when able. 73 to all, Randy, VE6RGU ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] SAT PC32 / AO-7 Mode B
I made a couple contacts on AO-7 Mode A just fine And when you click on CAT and look at the freq selections For Mode A it matches the cheat sheet AMSAT sent me. However that's not the case with MODE B freqs .. Doesn't match the chart.. And I cant seem to make a contact. ( still ) I have the CAT cable hooked up and SAT PC32 setup ( thanks to Tim, N3TL ) And as I mentioned, Mode A worked fine.. Did something happen to the sat to shift that ? Or is it for some other Reason that it doesn't match? Randy - N2CUA PS .. Try not to beat me up to bad here... ___ Sent via amsat...@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. [amsat-bb] HRD 5.0 and FT-897
I need a little help with the software and the rig. Cant get it to track on tx freq. as far as it going to the rig. Shows up in the software just fine. I read that I have To click the TX button in the radio GUI and not my footswitch And even then the freq shows something different until I unkey. I am starting to think this software and my radio werent made For each other .. Anyone with a lot of patience that's willing to assist? Really starting to regret buying this FT-897. OH .. And the receive updates that get sent to the radio >From the satellite tracker. Is there a way to change the rate At which the updates are sent? Should I be trying a different piece of software? [amsat-bb] AO-7 help
Hi all .. I am having trouble working AO-07 .. Could just be newbie syndrome... But I truly Am not sure why I cant.. I have an FT-897D, 13 element 2 meter yagi and a 11 element 432 yagi. I can also effectively use the 2 meter yagi on 432.. Matches well And have used it on repeaters up to 60 miles away on 440.. I use the translation table provided by AMSAT and the books.. Have those programmed into the radio as splits.. LSB 432.XXX up and USB 145.XXX down . ( mode B like this morning ) I can hear PLENTY of QSO's. I cannot make contact with anyone .. I even got a little desperate and pulsed my handheld On the 432 antenna ( like CW dits ) ( harder to id that way LOL ) And tuned the receiver and cannot find my signal .. [amsat-bb] G5500 Questions
I just finished up the cables for the rotor And been reading thru the manual .. ( lacking a bit ) It says 5 minutes intermittent service and something About 15 minutes rest. I assume then , that it means 5 minutes on , 15 minutes off. Doesn't seem like it takes a whole 5 minutes to run the whole Rotation , but wanted to know if its ok to go from one end of The rotation to the other without stopping? Wanted to ask if that seems reasonable? For setup I ran the azimuth and elevation to CCW to the stop to make sure It stopped correctly and the meter indicated correctly, then went the other way to full meter deflection, to the Stop and adjusted the Full Scale adjustment for full scale. That's all there is To it? Whats the voltage output adjustments for? One more thing .. On a side note.. I thought it was cheesey to have "radio shack" Type terminal strips on a 600.00 rotor to connect the rotor cable too ... Why not have a couple connectors there? Even my old Wilson WR-500 had a connector. Lol I assume even with 2 small yagis on this rotor, I will now have to guy the mast due to the Added weight of the rotor on the mast ?
