Where should I go to buy the cable (CT-62) for the FT-817 that connects the CAT

2009-09-05 Thread Art McBride
Hi All,

I am trying to get my ICom 820H working under CAT.

I have an OPC-478UC It is USB to single line CI-V required by the ICom 820H.
I have shifted it's output to the tip from the sleeve on the 1/8" phone
plug. Under System / Device hardware the OPC 478 shows up as com 3. The
radio does not control. I have set the address to 60h from 42h in the radio
and the baud rate to 9600 on both radio and program. I get the E/A Fehler-32
warning when I try to store the com port values. The OPC 478UC does work my
ICom D800 and when connected to the 820H will return a Com 3 when com port
is selected. If I unplug the cord to the 820H it tells me no radio is
connected.

Any help on this one would be appreciated.

It amazes me, the number of people who, every time a new

configure SatPC32 to work with the new equipment.
I've never seen this with other software, other than the HRD suite.

I've not used SatPC preferring Orbitron or InstantTrack.
Does SatPC not have a manual or instructions?
Are we breeding operators who cannot read or understand the language?

2010-01-27 Thread w4upd
Having a few issues using SatPC32 and especially Yaesu gear,
specifically FT-817 and FT-857. The copy I aa using is not a registered
version yet nor have I modified any of the SQF files.

When using on the FT-817, I cannot get any response to the radio. It
doesn't appear to follow the doppler corrections being issued by the
program. When using the FT-857, the unit appears to semi-work, but it
seems to switch between 2 vfos. When using my Icom IC-910, it works fine
if I let it go into satellite mode.

If this is just a file editing problem let me know. In general, I'll be
using the IC-910 most often but have considered using the 817/857 for
portable operation if I can get it to work correctly. I also noticed
that the FT-857 has issues with HRD as well, but that's a subject for
another time.

Any guesses as to why FT-817 not working or does there need to be some
initial file modifications?

Regards,

Reid, W4UPD

Dear Folks,

I am attempting to get myself back on the satellites and am having some
problems with SatPC32.

Although WinAOS gives me accurate satellite position data, SatPC32 does not.
Furthermore satellite AOS/LOS data is different between the two programs,
sometimes by a half an hour.

I have checked all the settings and have tried updating the Keps but can't seem
to get the program to display accurate data.

Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know if there way around this other
than re-installing SatPC32? (I'd rather not have to input all the settings
again if I don't have to.)

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 ==> iPoint

2011-07-09 Thread Thomas Doyle
Hi,

I recently completed a project that someone on the board might find
interesting. One goal was to make it compact so it could be taken and used
outside the shack. It weighs 4 lb 5 oz and connects to your computer through
a USB or serial port. Another goal was no knobs, switches or any other
controls - there is only a reset button on the circuit board that I have
never used. It would be a great thing to take along when making
presentations on ham satellites. It would also be fun on field day since it
runs off 12V and is portable. It works with SatPC32 by emulating the Yaesu
GS-232 controller. It should work with other tracking programs but I have
not tried them (SatPC32 works great for me and AMSAT needs the money).

You might want to check out the youtube video that gives a little demo. It
is full HD and looks very cool in full screen HD. I guarantee there is
absolutely no footage of me waving my Arrow II antenna around.

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 simplified

2011-07-11 Thread Thomas Doyle
Thanks for all the feedback on the tracker. A few people commented that it
was a bit complex mechanically. This got me thinking about a minimal version
where the mechanical section could be built in less than an hour by almost
anyone.

Several people asked about moving antennas. The motor in the iPoint has
torque of only 35 oz-in. This is at least an order of magnitude less than
enough to move an even a small antenna. The main project I am working on is
an az-el rotor for small antennas. The azimuth rotor is working and I am
working on the mount for the mast. I want to make sure the azimuth rotor is
rock solid before working on the elevation rotor. The reason the motor
driver in the iPoint is so over designed is that it was designed for the
actual rotor not the iPoint. The iPoint actually started out as just a test
bed for software development.

A few people have asked about astronomical applications. I have thought
about that myself and have been looking for a simple usb telescope to mount
on iPoint. It would be interesting to set up SatPC32 to track the moon and
let iPoint run all night and capture shots of the moon from the usb tele.
The tele would have to be very small and light weight. Does anyone have
Kardashian data for heavenly bodies ? Wonder if anyone caught that. I
actually would like to know if it is possible to track the moon with SatPc32
and if so where to get the elements.

Here is a short HD video of the minimalist iPoint. While it may be a piece
of junk it does work and might give someone some ideas on building something
simple but much better than what I did. It did require only a hand drill and
a hacksaw and took only about an hour to build. After seeing it you may
wonder while it took an entire hour. There is a quarter just to the right of
the beast for size reference.

There was quite a bit of discussion on auto license plates a while back. I
did not want to contribute to the QRM then but I do have something on that
topic at the end of the video. It is actually my photo qsl without the
address information - you will understand when you see it. Since I do not
operate very often and qsl only when I get one this is probably your only
chance to see this rare card. If you look carefully at the back left of the
video you can see the azimuth rotor partially disassembled. I keep it there
to make me feel guilty when I work on something else.

here is the simplified tracker - I know it is junky so no need to tell me

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 & Subtones

2010-08-04 Thread Matt Severin
Good morning,

I am hoping someone can help answer a question. I am running SatPC32 12.8a
and controlling my Yaesu FT 897 as my uplink radio. Everything works fine
except that I cannot get the subtones to update.

I am using the following data in my SubTones.SQF file (as recommended in the
help files)

AO-51,67.0,$3F,1
SO-50,67.0,$3F,1
SO-50,74.4,$3E,3
SO-67,233.6,$01,36
HO-68,67.0,$3F,1

I'm running Windows XP and my baud rate is 9600, although I have varied it
to see if that would resolve my issue.

Everything thing updates on the radio as it should (including the radio
turning the tones 'on' and going into split mode); the only issue is that
the tone is not updated, it will stay on the last tone used. For example if
I use our local repeater, the radio will still use that tone.

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.

[amsat-bb] Satpc32 question

2012-06-12 Thread ANTHONY JAPHA
After a few months of inactivity, SATpc32 is showing a funny but unfortunate
feature: out of the 6 sats I have active (no change from previous use), only
the linear birds show up on the screen. They are shown in the normal way, with
the outline of their footprint always visible. The FM birds don't show up at
all until they are clicked on in the A, B, C, etc. list at the bottom of the
screen. When they are clicked, the inside of the footprint is shown and
illuminated, but without the outline around the footprint. And only 1 of those
birds can be shown at any time. The linear birds continue to be shown properly.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 Question

2012-07-22 Thread Kelley

Satellite newby here, trying to setup a station...

For all you SatPC32 users, a question. I'm using the software with 2
radios. One is an Icom IC-706MKIIG, the other is a Icom IC-746. While
the 706 covers vhf and uhf, the 746 only covers vhf.

The way my version of SatPC32 is set, it tries (depending on the
satellite) to set the 746 to uhf. I suspect there is a way to tell the
software that a radio can only do vhf, but can't seem to find where to
do that. Anyone know?

Thanks,

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 & Flex5000A

2012-10-01 Thread Richard Lawn
Ive started experimenting with converters and/or transverters on my
Flex5KA, using it as my receiver and an FT-847 as the uplink. I use SatPC32
to control both radios. I've got the Flex setup as rdaio 1 using the
Kenwood TS-2000 configuration and radio 2 is set to the FT-847. It seemed
to work for a short time. but I made some changes to the CAT Delay and the
status of the RTS +12 check box and now things are getting strange. When I
start SatPC32 the Flex is suddenly set to 65 mhz. Anyone have any
suggestions particularly about the CAT Delay setting and RTS +12 status?

[amsat-bb] satpc32 etc

2013-04-27 Thread Bob- W7LRD

Thanks to many and Dave KB1PVH I can now input keps in my computer all by
myself. I read this in the weekly AMSAT bulletins

The Castor 30 second stage motor, built by ATK, ignited for a burn lasting
two-and-a-half minutes, accelerating the rocket to more than 17,000 mph.
Engineers declared the rocket reached orbit, and the upper stage deployed a
8,377-pound block of aluminum designed to mimic the mass characteristics of the
Cygnus spacecraft, which will take the dummy
payload's place on the next Antares
launch.

Why does this want me to pull out what little hair I have left?? 8,377Lbs! I'm
sure I am missing something, what did AO-40 weigh?

[amsat-bb] satpc32 doppler ??

2013-05-08 Thread Bob- W7LRD
While using Satpc32 for doppler correction (IC-910H) often I have to "tweek"
the calibration using the CAT function. The amount of "tweeking" can vary

Birders,
I’m confused about the required entries into DOPPLER.SQF, and would appreciate
your help.
In entering the line required for AO-73, is the order LSB,USB or the reverse,
USB, LSB? The source of my confusion is that the instructions in the software
indicate “Up- and Downlink modes” while the actual entries for the linear birds
appear, except for AO-7, in the opposite order.

Thanks much.

John,

You should be able to simply download the program file from
http://www.dk1tb.de/downloadeng.htm

Choose the appropriate version for your locale. The manual can also be
downloaded here.

Whereas, this is comes as the demo version, if you simply enter your
registration information it will activate the full program.

I believe Martha, in the AMSAT office, may have an accounting of
registration information for past purchases.

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 Question

2014-06-08 Thread n0jy

Hi All,

I just installed (upgraded) to SatPC32 v. 12.8c.

Now, I have two installations here. One on my new laptop, and one on my
desktop PC. Laptop is for portable work, of course.
I noticed that on my laptop installation, on the SETUP menu OPTIONS
dialog, there is a checkbox for GROUND TRACK.
This option does not exist on my desktop installation. Same program,
same settings otherwise...

I see these parameters are held in SATSTART.SQF. I see + as the last
entry (and it is one more entry than my desktop file has) which
corresponds with the GROUND TRACK checkbox.
If I edit SATSTART.SQF on my desktop PC and add that +, when it starts
it does not have GROUND TRACK turned on. So I can't fool it.

Any thoughts, suggestions, help?

Thanks!

Re: [amsat-bb] SATPC32

2014-06-28 Thread Erich Eichmann

Jim,
IOPort.SYS is a 32-bit kernel driver which doesn't work on 64-bit
Windows. On 64-bit Windows the SatPC32 setup program installs it to
C:\Windows\SydWOW64\drivers. It is used (on 32-bit systems only) with
some rotor interfacce (IF-100, FODTrack etc.). These interfaces
therefore can't be used on 64-bit Windows.

Older SatPC32 versions used the IF-100 by default.

What version of SatPC32 do you use? Did you make settings regarding
rotor control?

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 Not Tuning

2009-10-05 Thread Joel Black
I am trying to get SatPC32 v12.8 to automatically tune my FT847. When
the program first comes up, the radio is initialized as indicated by the
"CAT" display and when I click on a satellite, the radio tunes to the
correct satellite. That's where it stops; it no longer changes the
frequency of the radio. If I turn off and turn back on CAT control, it
will update once and will then quit again. I have the same problem with
my FT-857.

I have read the help and .SQF files, but I cannot seem to find the right
combination. I have changed the baud rate of the radio and the program
to 4800, 9600, and 57.6k and made the corresponding changes with the CAT
delay value as recommended by the manual. I have not yet tried
uninstalling and re-installing the app.

I am running Vista 32bit and using a USB-to-serial converter which works
with everything else. The same converter works with the HRD 5.0
Satellite Tracker. Problem is, I cannot get HRD to accept sub-audible
tones so I can work AO-51. I don't know if it's a limitation of the
program or cockpit error.

Any suggestions, known issues, or anyone else having the same problem(s)?

Thanks,
Joel, W4JBB

You might also try playing with one of the other settings. It's been a while

it may be the CAT delay. On my 817 I had to change the setting from the

[amsat-bb] SATPC32 config files

2009-10-11 Thread Tim Goodrich
I hadn't used SATPC32 in a while, opting for HRD instead, but HRD is awfully
flakey at connecting to my 817 sometimes and also inexplicably reverses the
downlink and uplink frequencies for no reason sometimes. So, I decided to
give SATPC32 a try again, but I found that when I load it, it essentially
hangs my computer by taking up 99% of the resources.

I want to reinstall it, but don't want to lose the settings that I manually
configured. Can anyone tell me which files I should save before deleting the
old directory and then put into the new installation?

[amsat-bb] SATPC32 and FT847

2011-04-09 Thread Tom Schuessler
Hi all,

In an attempt to dabble my toes in the linear transponder pool, I asked a
FT847 owner friend to bring his rig over to try and understand the mechanics
of making it all work with the computer interfaced. Got SatPC32 to
communicate at 9600, 8, none, 1, none, with the radio and the radio
responded to changes I made on the program like using keystrokes to modify
the frequency of uplink or downlink. Problem is that although the program
was tracking Doppler correctly, the radio was not tracking at all. With the
multiple lines of possibilities on the Doppler.sqf file as is the case for
AO-51, I can go to the CAT dialog and change the mode frequencies just fine,
the radio goes to the new frequencies and even reflects the current state of
the Doppler shifted frequencies but from there, no Doppler corrections
occur.

Now I remember reading the "Manual" that "CAT Delay" for the FT897 needed to
be set to 20. Cat Delay is in the "Radio Setup" dialog is defaulted to 70.
I realize this now after the fact with radio not in my presence. Is this
the reason that the above mentioned problem could be occurring?

I hope to make another go at this in a few weekends in the hope of getting
ready for Field Day. Thanks for the help of the list.

files setup. It is controlling the radio (TS-2000) and rotor.

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 Doppler.SQF file

2011-08-28 Thread Keith Le Boutillier
Hi Group

Have just downloaded the trial version of SATPC32 and have most things
working ok.

The only thing I cant get to work is the Doppler tracking SatPC2
controls the rig an Icom 910 fine with the default satellites well.

It give examples of what to added in the Doppler.SQF file so here are my
questions.

Should the Doppler.SQF file have been created during installation I had
to create my manually?

I have put an entry in for ARiSSAT1 but SATPC32 is not picking this
information up from the file.

I know that this is a newbie error but could somebody point me in the
right direction

73 and Thanks

[amsat-bb] SatPC32, Gpredict etc.

2011-11-12 Thread Thomas Doyle
There are a huge number of tracking/station control programs out there. We
eventually pick one that meets our needs and learn how to use it. My main
interest is in the user interface and ease of use. When we use any program
for a long time it starts to seem to seem to be intuitively obvious how to
use it in much the same way a carpenter finds it intuitively obvious that
the next mark on the ruler past 19/32 is 5/8. Here is a short video showing
parts of my feeble attempt. There might be an idea or two in there that you
can use or a nit or two that you can pick.

It will look a bit better if you select 480P and use full screen.

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 Releasing Ports

2010-01-09 Thread Joel Black
I have an issue that appears to be with SatPC32 although I could be wrong.

When I use SatPC32, all works fine with my USB-to-serial adapter
controlling the radio. If I shut down SatPC32 and start HamRadioDeluxe,
generally speaking, I cannot control HRD. It's as if the USB-to-serial
adapter is still wanting to talk to SatPC32. Starting up SatPC32 in the
same session works fine. I have found that a restart of the PC is not
usually enough to release the USB adapter - a full shutdown is
required. Occasionally, unplugging and replugging the USB adapter will
work, but not often.

USB adapter: U232-P9
PC: Dell E520
OS: Vista 32-bit
RAM: 3GB
SatPC32: v12.8a
HRD: v5.0 build 2434 Beta

When I was getting the version numbers, I started SatPC first and then
HRD. Right now, it's working as it should. Even changing satellites,
thus making the radio switch modes, doesn't cause HRD to fail on
start-up. So, I cannot make it *not* work right now.

Thanks,
Joel, W4JBB

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 Help Needed

2010-10-06 Thread Guy Brauning
Thanks for reading this. I recently installed SatPC32 from an AMSAT
purchased CD onto a new WIN 7 laptop with a dual-core Pentium processor.
The laptop is interfaced with a Yaesu FT-857D for 144MHZ and a Yaesu FT-897D
for 432 MHZ. The interface is via a STAR-TECH Express Card serial adapter
which provides 2 COM ports. The program installed properly, I updated the
KEPs file, and the program controls the radios. My problem is that I can't
fine tune the Doppler shift properly for my set-up. I have tried using the
CAT Tuning dialog box to adjust the Downlink in order to hear my own CW
signal in the downlink, then reset the downlink adjustment to zero, and then
adjust the Uplink by the same frequency amount in the opposite direction,
and then save the uplink calibration. I was able to get AO-7 mode B working
pretty well using this technique; however, for VO-52 even when I adjust the
downlink to hear myself and then change the uplink and store the change, my
signal is no longer heard in the downlink... even before saving any changes,
I have to continually adjust the downlink in order to hear my own signal as
my signal will move out of the downlink I can't seem to find the correct
Doppler corrected frequency pair... I thought that once I adjusted the
downlink so that my signal was peaked that that would be a constant
"correction" throughout the pass. Are there other adjustments that I need
to try in addition to the uplink calibration? FO-29 is even harder to try
and figure out than AO-7 and VO-52. Is anyone else using two Yaesu FT-817
/ 857 / 897 rigs with SatPC32? If so, what do you think I am doing wrong
and what are your DOPPLER.SQF data lines for AO-7, VO-52, and FO-29 (as well
as any other critical settings)? I have been manually adjusting for
Doppler shift for about a year on the linear satellites but I never got
proficient enough to tune around the passband and answer other calls... I
just parked myself on an open frequency and called until someone answered
me. I can greatly appreciate the benefits of Full Doppler Tuning, I just
can't seem to configure SatPC32 in order to take advantage of it! I live in
central Maryland, FM-19.

Thanks for the help,

Re: [amsat-bb] satpc32 %$#$ again

2014-06-06 Thread PE0SAT | Amateur Radio

Hi Bob,

I experience similar issues lately

ALT-F4 and windows task manager can help to prevent from rebooting your
PC.

In my case this behaviour occurs when object ID's are changed or
removed

from the kepler input files. Lately we had Kicksat, Phonesat and other
cubesats that burned up in the atmosphere and therefor where removed
from

the DB.

To solve the issue I check and edit the satellite group files and
remove them

by hand.

Some extra information for Erich:

I create my own kepler input files direct from Space Track (with the
help from
HaloKepler) here an example
(http://www.pe0sat.vgnet.nl/kepler/mykepler.txt)
and use multiple groups that use there own kepler input when object
ID's are
no longer available or have changed and satellites are active in the
group

file SatPC32 reacts with the message "Ungultige gleitkommaoperation"

Maybe it is possible to have SatPC32 act different when object ID's are
changed or removed from the kepler input file and active in one of the
group files.

Also looking for the red TX and RX buttons

Thanks, Ted

Re: [amsat-bb] SatPC32 question

2014-07-29 Thread Alan
Hi Jim,

You are correct that you need to get the Keps in the same group to display them
at the same time.
They will eventually migrate, and you can request that from Tim Kelso on his
web site to speed the
process up.

As for seeing them simultaneously, use Multitrack. First go to Satellites. On
the Selected list,
use the Show On/Off button to select the ones you want to see simultaneously.
There will be an
asterisk in front of the name. Exit back to the main page, and click the "M"
in the upper left option
panel. That will turn on Multitrack.

Alan

[amsat-bb] SatPC32 V8 Doppler.SQF HELP

2009-11-10 Thread K3RWN
Can someone direct me to the location of the Doppler.SQF file in V8?

I cannot find the file in the SatPC32V8 directory.

In fact I cannot find any of the SQF files that are plentiful in V7.

I wanted to add the freqs for DO64 and SO67 and cannot seem to pull it off

Thanks in advance

Rich
