[android-developers] Some ideas for RDP application

2012-06-21 Thread Akki
I am trying to develop an android version of Remote Desktop Sharing (Remote
PhoneTop Sharing)using *RDP protocol* and looking to implement it the same
way ie making one phone a server and other the client. I would like to ask
whether this is feasible or not because I think that most people use little
router / wifi access point boxes with a
feature called network address translation (NAT) which allows all of the
devices in their home, business, or cafe to share the same external IP
address. So any mobile device simply does not have a unique, routable
external IP address on which it can accept incoming connections or
unsolicited incoming traffic.

I yes then could you please post some suggestions about how to begin with
this and also could you please post some links for the same

[android-developers] Play market and sales info

2012-06-21 Thread Giuseppe
Dear experts,
We have a Play market account from Italy, and according with Google docs we
don't have a merchant Key.
We are unable to get info about our sales using the checkOut API, but there
are services and apps able to do it using our GMAIL username and password,
so there is some way to get this sales info without CheckOut API.

We would like to collect the orders notifications to store it in our local
database but we really didn't find anything useful.

Thank you for your time and some suggestion.

 APP_ABI := armeabi armeabi-v7a x86

 And that works for Java a C code source.

 But I have a assembly file too.
 For ARM I used to compile it whit some options

 Here is my Android.mk

 LOCAL_MODULE := engine
 LOCAL_ARM_MODE := arm
 LOCAL_CFLAGS := -mfpu=neon -march=armv6t2 -O9
 LOCAL_SRC_FILES := engine-arm.s
 LOCAL_LDLIBS := -lm -llog -ljnigraphics
 LOCAL_STATIC_LIBRARIES := cpufeatures

 Well now My problem is that I have another assembly file for the x86
 called engine-x68.s

 What I'd like to do is compiling it with some gcc options
 -msse2 -m32 -masm=intel

 So My Android.mk file should be something like

 LOCAL_MODULE := engine
 LOCAL_CFLAGS := -msse2 -m32 -masm=intel
 LOCAL_SRC_FILES := engine-x86.s
 LOCAL_LDLIBS := -lm -llog -ljnigraphics
 LOCAL_STATIC_LIBRARIES := cpufeatures

 Finally my question is.

 How Can I compile engine-arm.s with the first Android.mk param and
 compile engine-x68.s with the second one ?
 My goal is to have only one module (engine) and let Android loading
 the correct library !

They are probably scraping it from the Google Checkout webpage, after
they login
as you. Or, since it seems it's using GWT, they are getting the JSON
data returned
and extracting the info from there. You could probably write a program
to do the same
thing, but you'll need to update/fix it every time the interface changes.

I have no idea why the merchant key is not available everywhere.

 Hi there,

 But Eclipse complains about a couple of errors on XML parsing:

 - error: Multiple substitutions specified in non-positional format; did
 you mean to add the formatted=false attribute?
 - error: Unexpected end tag string

 It dissapear adding that formatted=false attributed, but I am curious

 I use these %s because I will use Formatter.format later to build an

No one is going to download a RAR file from you and weed through your code
to fix your problem. Try posting a relevant code sample and explaining your
problem better. Details like what device you're running on and what version
of Market you're running would help, for example.

Try again.

[android-developers] Re: Two things holding up my app. Any suggestions?

2012-06-21 Thread Shino
Bump?
Can anyone help me out with this?

I'm working on using MediaPlayer, but I need to get this out.

It just seems like the 2 things I'm asking about shouldn't be complicated
to do but they are, and here and on StackOverflow, I have yet to get
answers that work.
:(

On Wednesday, June 20, 2012 11:06:24 AM UTC-4, Shino wrote:

 @Sauray ... I did not think of that. I guess my question would be...
 since after the player is launched they are now actually outside of my app,
 do I even have control over the back button at that point?

 @Chris Stratton ... It's looking like I will have to build my own... which
 is fine. Part of me wanted to do so anyway since it seems to be the more
 accepted way to do things. I was more trying to use the default player b/c
 I thought it would be the simpler way to do things so I could get the app
 into the hands of those that are going to be beta testing it.

 For my second issue... Accessing an AsyncTask from a Notification's
 PendingIntent ... Could I put a BroadcastReceiver in the AsyncTask then
 send a broadcast on user interaction with the dialog? That was the next
 option I was going to try... I just haven't had time to implement it yet.

 On Wednesday, June 20, 2012 10:44:49 AM UTC-4, Chris Stratton wrote:

  I am sure there is a way to keep it running programming it in this
 manner!

 Certainly there is if you are free to modify the code of the activity
 and/or service it uses.

 The challenge of the question seems to be to get a default application
 already on the device (which, incidentally, is often customized by
 vendors) to do this.

 An alternative might be to build a mini-player service and activity
 into the app based on parts of the AOSP version of the default music
 player.

I want to say that in this case you've done something like misspell
the name of your main activity in your app.

Do an adb logcat and get the stack trace, then post that here.

Re: [android-developers] Spinner show on click of button

2012-06-21 Thread Justin Anderson

 Hi yes I am adding the Button to the view,but i am not adding the spinner
 to the view

Pretty sure the spinner needs to be added to the view for it to work.

One option you can do if you don't want to have the spinner UI is to use
AlertDialog.Builder... It allows you to set an array of options to display
in a list via setSingleChoiceOptions(). You can then display that by
calling show() on the dialog when the button is clicked.

I've done that many times when I want the functionality of a spinner but
want a different UI for it.

[android-developers] Re: How to show my sdcard picture in the Camera ???

2012-06-21 Thread Nobu Games
I'm a bit lost here with your question. It sounds like any of the following
possibilities:

   1. You want to display a picture from the SD card using the Gallery app
   (or any installed image viewer)
   2. You want to implement a picture slideshow
   3. You want to overlay a picture on top of a camera preview surface (the
   camera video live stream so to say)

For solving 1:

 Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
 intent.setDataAndType(Uri.fromFile(thePictureFile), image/jpeg);
 startActivity(intent);

For solving 2:

You could use the Gallery widget and provide it with a SpinnerAdapter that
creates ImageViews.

For solving 3:

Create a full screen activity with a SurfaceView which will be the canvas
for the camera preview. Put another view that displays your picture(s) on
top of that. If you're playing with the Camera component for the first
time, you should read the
documentationhttp://developer.android.com/reference/android/hardware/Camera.html.

The first time I was playing around with it I made a tiny mistake that
crashed my device so hard that some data was corrupted and it wouldn't
reboot properly anymore, so I had to do a factory reset.

[android-developers] Re: Emulate long pression of keys

2012-06-21 Thread Sal Dekku
Hello!

I've wrote some code to help me solve the problem, a little application to
use as a testbed. Also, here's one of many test units I wrote to emulate
the long press.

package com.nofatclips.keyevent.test;

 import com.nofatclips.keyevent.KeyEventsDumpActivity;

 import android.os.SystemClock;
 import android.test.ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2;
 import android.util.Log;
 import android.view.KeyEvent;

 public class KeyEventTest extends
 ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2KeyEventsDumpActivity {
 private KeyEventsDumpActivity mActivity; // the activity under test

 public KeyEventTest() {
   super(com.nofatclips.keyevent, KeyEventsDumpActivity.class);
 }

 @Override
 protected void setUp() throws Exception {
 super.setUp();
 mActivity = this.getActivity();
 }

 public void testLongPress() {
 sendKeyDownUpLong(KeyEvent.KEYCODE_MENU);
 }

 public void sendKeyDownUpLong(final int key) {
 final KeyEvent downEvent = new KeyEvent (KeyEvent.ACTION_DOWN,
 key);
 sendKeyDownUp(downEvent);
 sleep(500);

 for (int repetition = 0; repetition50; repetition++) {
 KeyEvent newEvent = KeyEvent.changeTimeRepeat(downEvent,
 SystemClock.uptimeMillis(), repetition, downEvent.getFlags() |
 KeyEvent.FLAG_LONG_PRESS);
 sendKeyDownUp(newEvent);
 sleep(5);
 }

 final KeyEvent upEvent = new KeyEvent (KeyEvent.ACTION_UP, key);
 sendKeyDownUp (upEvent);
 }

 public void sendKeyDownUp(KeyEvent key) {
 getInstrumentation().sendKeySync(key);
 getInstrumentation().waitForIdleSync();
 }

 public void sleep (int msec) {
 try {
 Thread.sleep(msec);
 } catch (InterruptedException e) {
 Log.e(nofatclips, Could not sleep. Mosquito alert!, e);
 return;
 }

 }

 }

And here's the testbed. The XML layout:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8?
 LinearLayout xmlns:android=http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android;
 android:layout_width=match_parent
 android:layout_height=match_parent
 android:orientation=vertical

 android:layout_height=wrap_content
 android:text=Last Long Key
 android:textAppearance=?android:attr/textAppearanceLarge /

 android:textAppearance=?android:attr/textAppearanceLarge /

 TextView
 android:id=@+id/counter
 android:layout_width=wrap_content
 android:layout_height=wrap_content
 android:text=0 /

 /LinearLayout

and the code for the activity:

package com.nofatclips.keyevent;

 import android.app.Activity;
 import android.os.Bundle;
 import android.view.KeyEvent;
 import android.widget.*;

 public class KeyEventsDumpActivity extends Activity {

 int counter = 0;

 /** Called when the activity is first created. */

Re: [android-developers] Formatted string and localization problem

2012-06-21 Thread Tor Norbye
You need to number the string arguments because in some translations, the
order in which the substitutions appear may not be the same. If you just
use %s, there is no way to for example use the second argument earlier than
the first; it will need to find the first occurrence of %s and match it
with the first parameter, and so on. With numbered arguments, one
translation could do this: Dear %2$s, %1$s. (for example when the
strings represent first and last names, where there are different
conventions across localizations.)

[android-developers] Anyone working on the FriendlyARM Platform.

2012-06-21 Thread mike digioia
Hi

Just received this platform without any docs. Should get the package today
and what ever docs that comes with it or Identification of which one this
is. But the board does not have the serial console port enabled, since
nothing is being displayed as it boots (using the normal hyperterm setting
for pandaboard). It does boot up Android (looks like ICS). I attempted to
adb connect over USB but nothing works wihen I use Samsung vendor/product
codes in the udev rules files (I can see the device and lsusb shows it as
Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub).

Any switches needed to be set? where to find the fastboot images for this
devices using samsung 2.3.4 (or any images)?

Re: [android-developers] Expandiblelistview same layouts takeing for both actvities

2012-06-21 Thread Nobu Games
So you are actually having a problem with both activities abbottasia and
abbottusa, because they are using the same layout even though you created
two separate ones? Why are you posting the code for this ListView activity
then? This is completely unrelated to your problem.

Look into both activities abbottasia and abbottusa, check whether you
set the correct layout resource ids with setContentView in these
activities' onCreate methods.

If the correct layouts are in fact assigned then you need to clean and
rebuild your project because sometimes the generated R class files get
messed up a bit.

Re: [android-developers] Formatted string and localization problem

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your instructive answer. I have no strings in my

bear this in mind for further.

Best regards,

 You need to number the string arguments because in some translations, the
 order in which the substitutions appear may not be the same. If you just
 use %s, there is no way to for example use the second argument earlier than
 the first; it will need to find the first occurrence of %s and match it
 with the first parameter, and so on. With numbered arguments, one
 translation could do this: Dear %2$s, %1$s. (for example when the
 strings represent first and last names, where there are different

[android-developers] l10n and coordinate mapping on an image

2012-06-21 Thread Francisco M. Marzoa Alonso
Hi there,

I am using a bitmap with several parts that can be touched by the user
as they were buttons. These parts may be bigger or littler depending on
the language.

Currently, as I have split English and Spanish version into two
different apps, I just have the coordinates hardcoded in my Java classes.

But now I am integrating both languages on the same app, having yet done
the different string and image resources, but I do not know what is the
best approach to this problem.

I could make some hack, like encoding the coordinates between an string
using string file resources, and parsing these as needed to get again
the coordinates. But I think there should be a better way and I do not
want to do -again- dirty code that I will need to change sooner than later.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot in advance,

[android-developers] Re: l10n and coordinate mapping on an image

2012-06-21 Thread Nobu Games
You can use a regular Java resource
bundlehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.propertieswhich can be fully localized.
They are a set of files ending with
.properties which you can use for storing the button coordinates for each
local.

Just create in one of your packages a set of files with the same base name
(ButtonCoords for example), followed by an underscore and the locale like
_en_US or just _en. The suffix is .properties:

*ButtonCoords_en.properties:*
homeButton = 10,10,100,100
closeButton = 20,20, 200,200
...
*ButtonCoords_fr.properties:*
homeButton = 12,11,105,105
closeButton = 22,22, 201,201
...

Then you need to load that properties file with following code. Java
automatically takes care of picking the correct file for the currently set
locale:

ResourceBundle bundle =
 ResourceBundle.getBundle(path/to/package/ButtonCoords);

The retrieved bundle object will be something like a HashMap that maps
Strings (homeButton, closeButton) to their according values.

String coordsStr = bundle.getString(homeButton);

String[]  coordsArray = coordsStr.split(,);
 int[] coords = new int[coordsArray.length];
 int i = 0;

 for(String coord : coordsArray) {
 coords[i++] = Integer.parseInt(coord.trim());
 }

Make sure to provide a default .properties file without a locale (name it
just ButtonCoords.properties) so there won't be an error when someone plays
your game with an unsupported locale.

[android-developers] DOA Object serving a Resource from Android Library Project

2012-06-21 Thread Jacob Hansen
Hi,

I'm currently making a SDK for a payment gateway, however I'm having some
problems.

The project setup is supposed to be:
*Library Project*

DAO Classe
SDK
Server connectivity class

*Application*

UI

Using the above Library project

And from the library project I want to send some images (drawables) for
example images for what credit cards are available for the payment. These
credit cards can change depending on different settings so they need to be
sent dynamically to the application using the SDK.

I'm currently importing the library project by selecting the library
project under properties in Eclipse (I need to do it with a Jar or
something to make it closed source but one problem at a time).

Now the problem I get is that I get a NullPointerException when I try to
set the drawable from the SDK to an ImageView in the app. Here's some code:
DAO Class from the SDK (this class extends Application):

 case (MASTERCARD):
 this._logo = getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.mastercard_securecode);
 break;

This is in the constructor. And then there's a simple getter method to
access the _logo varible, which is a Drawable. The R.drawable i refer to is
a ressource located in the Library Projects res folder.

In the application I then want to be able to do something like:

 ImageView img = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.imageView);

img.setImageDrawable( DAOObjet.getLogo() );

So that whoever implements the SDK is able to decide how the UI should be
implemented.

However doing it this way I'm as said getting a NullPointerException on the
line that serves the Drawable from the SDK (eg the line quoted above in the
switch/case statement).

I have a feeling I'm loading the ressource in a completely wrong way, but I
dont know.

Could someone assist me with this? That would be much appreciated!

[android-developers] How can I get this two angel ? Please help me

2012-06-21 Thread CuGBabyBeaR
I'm a Chinese and sorry about my English is not good .

That is my problem:
How can I get two angel?
angel 1. angel between device surface and the level
angel 2. azimuth of device surface (azimuth of the projection of device
surface normal vector)

I read the document on developer.android.com which part about class
Sensor.Event , and have several questions.

1. Is sensor of type TYPE_ORIENTATION really physically exist ?
   In the document , it told me that :use getRotationMatrix() in
conjunction with remapCoordinateSystem() and getOrientation() to compute
these values instead.
(this is it
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/hardware/Sensor.html#TYPE_ORIENTATION
)
Since I can compute the orientation values by other two sensor values , why
is there a redundant sensor exist?

2. I need to compute the normal vector of device surface?
  I want to get the angel between device surface and the level .
In my mind , I put device in the world coordinate system : Y point to North
, X point to East , Z point to sky
Then for the two angel I want , I only need to get the normal vector
of device surface .

3. How can I get the normal vector?
  Whether I use sensor of type TYPE_ORIENTATION or use getRotationMatrix()
plus getOrientation() , the values I can get are Azimuth Pitch and Roll (
differences are only on sign and 3 angels is in degree or radian ).
  I tried several different way to rotation vector (0,0,1) with this 3 angels
to get the normal vector , but all of them seems do not work .Help me ,
make is work please. T T

Thank in advance.

Android and I've hit some issues. I'm pretty ignorant about eclipse and
java so go easy on me. I've two questions..

I got the app working in eclipse and on my htc desire s, it was a bit slow
and unresponsive but at least it worked. Then I discovered the app wouldn't
work on android devices (as far as I can tell, testing is a biatch) running
OS 3 and over (the htc is 2.3). It stops working on the homepage screen by
failing to load the tabbars. My only guess is that its somehow realtaed to
internet connection, as on the iphone version, the tabs would only load
when the connection was fine. Apart from that, I just know enough about
eclipse/android to even know what the right questions to search for. Any
advice on how to track down the problem?

The second question is how to improve the perfomance. - its very sluggish.
I knew it would be bad but its worse than. I'm in the process of trying to
minify and strip out as much as I can but are there any other suggestions
about how to improve performance? One really annoying thing is that on
certain transistions from one page to another, the new page loads up, then
the old page flashes up for a second before going back to the new page -
has anyone encountered this before?

thanks!

[android-developers] all assets created, I need help making it work!

2012-06-21 Thread BigBeard
I am creating an app. it consist of 2 screen graphics (.jpgs) and an .mp3
file.

Everything is ready to go as far as content, I just can't make it work!

Basically on screen 1 there is a play button, when pressed it should switch
to screen 2 and infinitely loop the mp3 file. If the play/stop is pressed
again, the mp3 stops and screen one loads.

That's it!

I am having a hard time getting the basics done for some reason, It would
take me ages to code but I am hoping someone here is bored and maybe has an
mp3 player type code that could be slapped together with my graphics... let
me know if you can help please. I'm making this app as a suprise for my GF.

 Is it something possible? If yes could someone give me some hints to

[android-developers] Content Provider JUnit Test and Null Pointer Exception

2012-06-21 Thread Dionysus1983
I am attempting to test the update() method of my custom content
provider. I receive a null pointer exception due to the getContext()
method call within the update() method being null. To alleviate this
issue I have attempted implementing
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6516441/why-does-androidtestcase-getcontext-getapplicationcontext-return-null
to no avail. My test class looks like the following:

public class AddressContentProviderTest extends
ProviderTestCase2AddressContentProvider {
public void testInsert() {
Uri CONTENT_URI = Uri.parse(content:// +
AddressContentProvider.AUTHORITY + /address);
AddressContentProvider addressContentProvider = new
AddressContentProvider();
ContentValues initialValues = new ContentValues();
boolean isException = false;
Uri returnURI = null;
initialValues.put(country, USA);
initialValues.put(region, test);
initialValues.put(city, Jacksonville);
initialValues.put(state, FL);
initialValues.put(zip, 32258);
initialValues.put(province, test);
initialValues.put(geo_location_id, );

returnURI = addressContentProvider.insert(CONTENT_URI,
initialValues);

assertTrue(returnURI != null);

}

The insert method looks like the following:

@Override
public int update(Uri uri, ContentValues values, String where,
String[] whereArgs) {
SQLiteDatabase db =dbHelper.getWritableDatabase();
int count;

switch (sUriMatcher.match(uri)) {
case ADDRESS:
count = db.update(ADDRESS_TABLE_NAME, values, where,
whereArgs);
break;
default:
throw new IllegalArgumentException(Unknown URI  +
uri);
}
getContext().getContentResolver().notifyChange(uri, null);
return count;
}

[android-developers] Software Keyboard

2012-06-21 Thread Phil Ryu
Hi lads,

I'm running into trouble trying to make the software keyboard pop.
I've already read all the posts related to that but unfortunately none
helped me.

I tried toggleSoftInputFromWindow, showSoftInput,
getWindow().setSoftInputMode() with all possible combinations and all
possible flags. I don't have an EditText, so I even tried to create a
fake one. I made the call from different listeners to make sure it was
not a thread related issue. I tried to delay the thread a bit.

Still, those methods always return false and therefore the keyboard
doesn't show...

BUT! Everything works as expected as soon as I minimize the
application (by pressing Home) and restore the application. From then,
the keyboard shows up without any problems.

Any clues?

Phil.

PS : My phone has a hardware keyboard.

[android-developers] Android NFC Options

2012-06-21 Thread Alistair Lowe
Hi guys,

I'm attempting to get into NFC on Android by communicating with a custom
PN532 device, however I'm a little confused as to my options and the
Android protocol.

   - NFCIP-1, is it possible to place my device as a target into this mode,
   for Android to automatically detect and communicate with to load an app or
   can this only be done in card emulation mode (i.e. does NFCIP-1 have to be
   actively triggered)?
   - What's the easiest to use card emulation mode for the sake of data
   format simplicity? (get an NDEF file over to the phone as simple and easy
   as possible that it will automatically act upon)?

Any help/advice is very much appreciated,
Many thanks

There isn't. The Google Play store won't allow updating apps that haven't
been paid for through Google Checkout with the given Google Account.
So you would have to do the key / license checking yourself against your
own web server and continue to manually send app updates to those people.
