I'm guessing your problem lies in how you call AsyncTask.execute(…).
Switching this call to;

s.execute(URL + param);

might fix it. I'm not too familiar with AsyncTask though…

[android-developers] ListFragment or ListView preview in Layout Editor

 

Hello, it's my first post in the group.

I'm trying to preview a ListFragment in the Graphical Layout Editor. As it 
has no fragment layout to preview, I simply created an xml with a 
ListViewinside, just to see how the items look, and set 
*Preview List Content* with one of the default item layouts, just to try.

The problems are:

   1. The list in the preview is empty, no matter what *Preview List Content
   * I choose;
   2. I want to preview my own custom list item *View*, not just a layout, 
   because I'll be doing few things when isInEditMode() is true.

Any idea? Is this possible with ADT20?

Yesterday I tried running the asynctask in onCreate in an activity, to test 
it. I used a URL from web that I knew was available. Actually I always got 
UnknownHostException and I don't know why, however onPostExecute got called 
correctly, except the first time, when it looked like it had to wait for 
some timeout before printing the postExecute log (hence executing it, I 
guess).

The asynctask seems to get called correctly indeed. (the use of results has 
some problems as you noticed instead).

I wrote into a MifareTag a new URI: http://developer.android.com/index.html 
using application NXPTagWriter.
My demo application activity has this intentFilter on Manifest:

intent-filter
action android:name=android.nfc.action.NDEF_DISCOVERED /
category android:name=android.intent.category.DEFAULT /
data android:scheme=http
android:host=developer.android.com
android:pathPrefix=/index.html /
/intent-filter

That should match with the URI on the tag.

Unfortunately, the android browser is always started instead my app.
Have you solved the problem?

[android-developers] AccountManager oauth token validation

I'm planning to authenticate users using AccountManager. I can get oauth 
token. Using a secure http connection I pass it to my webserver where I use 
it.
On documentation (
https://developers.google.com/accounts/docs/OAuth2Login#validatingtoken) I 
read that I need to verify token, and check if my app was the intendend 
target.

I built a simple android app that create an oauth token. 
This url: 
https://www.googleapis.com/oauth2/v1/tokeninfo?access_token={accessToken} 
gives me an audience field filled with a value. How can I check on my 
webserver if it's the right one? If I'm right I should check that 
audience field == client_id of my android app. Where can I read my app 
client_id?

My app is really simple.
It allows to call 999 and save datas about the smartphone's owner. For
example: name, surname, address, people to contact in case of
emergency, family doctor, blood group, medicines, operations had in
the past...
So if in a car crash a newbie knows that if he had an android in his
hand and he press three times the power button, will appear datas
about the owner of the smartphone, (I think) ,maybe it could save a
life.
So that's all, what do you think about??

I solved it, at least for me. The problem is that I installed my app by 
downloading it from a webserver. This caused the app to restart each time. 
Using the command-line tool adb install -r package.apk works as expected. 
It gets resumed from the previous state.

Hi all,

I'm trying to stream from an url using this code

mediaPlayer.start();

This code works on emulator, on my htc wildfire with 2.3, on another
wildfire with 2.2 and other devices, but I get a NullPointer Exception
with an LG and a GalaxyTab running 2.2 ... Tried other solutions,
using prepared listener too, but nothing changes ... Why this??

I thought it was the AdapterView and the fact that my ViewAnimator
inside doesn't have a father.

But it wasn't.

I've extended a ViewGroup this time and tried to bind the OnDraw
method to my internal ViewAnimator (as the first post), but in vain.
Animation are still not drawn even if view are correctly displayed.

BTW, I'm targeting Android 2.1-update.

Anyone?

I really can't figure out what I'm doing wrong...

The animation doesn't draw. I also have overridden the canAnimate()
method to be sure and disabled the Animation Drawing Cache to be sure
on my AdapterView container. I guess that it makes no difference to
have a simple View or a AdapterView as a container as the latter is a
ViewGroup.

Maybe ovverriding the onDraw doesn't suffice as it's not called to
draw every frame.

I'll appreciate any kind of advice / document for me to read on this.

Hi guys!

Here I am again to ask some newbie question :-)

I'm trying to build a class that has-a ViewAnimator.

For this reason, my onDraw has been overridden like this:

protected void onDraw(Canvas canvas) {
mAnimator.getCurrentView().draw(canvas);
}

Now, the ViewAnimator has cool setIn and setOut Animation and it
simply starts them on setDisplayedChild().
The problem is that I never see these animations playing. I've
debugged the code and the ViewAnimator passes through the
startAnimation code.

I may be missing out some clue here. So don't be mad, but I was not be
able to find the solution lurking on the Internet.

[android-developers] Time.setToNow and AM/PM

Hi guys, I would like to ask you something about the Time class.

I'm trying to grab time doing:

Time now = new Time();
now.setToNow();

But if I have my phone set to the AM/PM behaviour, now.hour returns me
a  12 number, even if noon is gone by. Am I wrong doing something? Or
the native method setToNow() has some problem?

Second question, is there an alternative way to get the current time?

 Yes. You should be using java.util.Time to get the time.
 android.text.format.Time is for rendering the time as a string.

I'll to expose my trouble here. I'm convinced that I could do the same
thing in another way, but I would like to know if my approach is
correct as well.

I want to build a custom class that extends RelativeLayout and
implements a Interface MyInterface.

I have the complete definition of the layout in a xml. I'm try to
separate the code from xml to gain flexibility. I think that an
example is clearer.

I have:

public class MyLayoutView extends RelativeLayout implements
MyInterface {

private Context context;
private ViewGroup parent;

AlarmItemView(Context context, ViewGroup parent) {
super(context);

this.parent = parent;
this.context = context;

// here i'm trying to get the layout_width and layout_height

I mean:

MyLayoutView view = new MyLayoutView(context);

without any inflation doesn't call the MyLayoutView(Context context,
AttributeSet attrs) constructor I guess.

This is why I'm trying to pull parameters directly from the xml
inside the Context only constructor.

At least, I'm trying to implement it this way...

 Override the constructor that takes an AttributeSet, which is what is called
 when the View is inflated from XML. It should do all the work for you. Then
 you can parse out custom properties if you have any for you custom view.

Fails with a InflateException...binary file at line 2 of my xml.

The class is extending a RelativeLayout as before.

  This is why I'm trying to pull parameters directly from the xml inside
  the Context only constructor.

 I'm kind of lost as to what you're trying to accomplish. What XML are you
 pulling parameters from, if not the one that defines your custom layout
 itself?

Hello,

we found the workaround. Starting from Android 1.6, the received sms
intent is ordered. This means you can prioritize your filter.

Summarizing:

- create your own application that is able to handle incoming
messages. At some point you have to stop the broadcast of the message,
I don't exactly remember the method, it's something like
stopBroadcast().
- set the priority of your filter to 100, it should work.

I am working on a research project and I need to write an Android
application that is able to intercept SMS's and, according to their
content, route them to a web services without showing any alert.

I tried to register a broadcast receiver on the intent SMS_RECEIVED,
but the default SMS application is still notifying the SMS in the
notification bar. The only way to achieve what is manually disabling
the message notification from the default SMS application's menu.

I found that the SMS Guard application, available on the market, is
able to filter messages out without any notification, without touching
any default configuration (I wrote to the developer, no answer yet).

Any idea?

I have been looking for a method to change the default SMS
application's preference programmatically.

I found that those preferences are stored as shared preferences,
probably in data/data/com.android.sms/something.xml, but I am not able
to get to that directory since I haven't rooted my phone.

I don't use a SurfaceView (like LunarLander) but a normal view because
in my tests I found it much more stable then the surfaceView. Keep in
mind that android was 1.5. With 1.6/2.* things maybe changed, I have
to test it. There are no threads in the game apart the one used for
loading all the images before the game starts.


 Also, I don't believe you should be seeing a slow-down in
 compatibility mode... In my experience, it has worked pretty well.

Trust me, with the code structure explained before the frame rate
slows down, I tested it on the DROID device at last london android
lab.

I developed a game with the g1 in my mind. Now I want to support large
screen sizes but I don't want to add in the apk different images for
different screen sizes because now the apk is 3mb and when installed
trought market it became 6mb (due to protection on). If i have to
double the images to support new screens, the apk would be too heavy
(about 13mb, i think) so I'm wondering to know if scaling images at
runtime by myself (without compatibility mode) maybe the best way for
supporting larger screens. Someone tried this solution? Compatbility
mode does a great work in scaling images but it slows down drastically
the framerate (i think because the scale operation is made every time
an image is used/moved and not only once on the load of the image
itself).

[android-developers] A couple of questions from a beginner

Hi to everyone. I start trying out some stuff with Android from few
days so there's lot I don't know but I hope not to sound too stupid.
Here are the first problems I'm facing

1) I have a ListView where each item is made of two icon (on the left
and right side) and an EditText, disabled, in the middle. I have a
button to add new element to the lists and what I want to happen is
that clicking on it a new lne appears in the ListView with the focus
on the EditText so that the user can type a label for the object.
What I tried to do when the button is clicked is:
- add a new object to the array binded to the ListView;
- notify the array adapter that a change as occoured in the data
- retrieve the view object for the last child added to the ListView
- set the focus on the EditText
The problem is that between the call of notifyDataSetChanged() and the
 creation of a new child in the ListView there's a delay and so I'm
not able to get the new created view in the click handler. What's the
best way to handle it?

2) Considering the same scenario when I give focus to the EditText I
see the cursor for editing the field value but the soft keyboard
doens't appear. That's perfect on a device with an hard keyboard, but
what would happen if the device doesn't have one?
The other thing I find weird is that when I tap the EditText the
keyboard finally appears but the field lost the focus so I can type
whatever I want but nothing appear in the field. This latest thing
seems to be in some way related to the fact the EditText is part of
the layout used to display each item in the list. Any idea on how to
solve it?

Hi all,
I need to know the coordinates of a drawable object after its
rotation?
Here the code (ball is Drawable):

 canvas.save();
 canvas.rotate(degree, pivot_x,pivot_y);
  ball.setBounds(...);
  ball.draw(canvas);
 canvas.restore();

What are new coordinates of the ball? I tried with ball.getBounds()
but it contains original coordinates.
