[android-developers] Unsupported format of git

2016-11-11 Thread George Brown
Hi all,

I keep getting an error message when trying to test my git executable in
Android Studio. Can someone offer any advice?

I'm running Android Studio 2.2.2 on Windows 10 64-bit. I downloaded and
successfully installed Git-2.10.1-64-bit. I have an account with Github.
Git is installed on my secondary hard drive and not on C:.

The steps I take are:

   1. 1) Open Android Studio
   2. 2) Click Configure
   3. 3) Click Settings
   4. 4) Click Git
   5. 5) Click Test
   6.
   7. Then a window opens with this message:

Unsupported format of git --version output: [0x7FFD70F970E3] ANOMALY: use
of REX.w is meaningless (default operand size is 64) git version
2.10.1.windows.1 [0x7FFD70F970E3] ANOMALY: use of REX.w is meaningless
(default operand size is 64)

Thank you

[android-developers] Device not detected - how to re-configure Android Studio

2016-05-18 Thread George Uk
Hi,
On the development laptop my Sony phone was used for USB Debugging
initially. Cannot remember how, after several updates to Android Studio, it
cannot be detected anymore recently. On the same machine, another phone is
still okay.

My Sony phone still works on a different laptop with the same version of
Studio (2.1).

Could someone help out please?!

I have researched on changing settings programmatically and am looking for
toggle switches within A Studio.

2015-03-24 Thread George Baker
I believe your problem is that you aren't returning the list from the
background thread (doInBackground()). I can't tell from your changes where you
are assigning a value to the items variable in you adapter constructor but it
really should be from the result returned from your doInBacground() method.
Also remember all ui access in an AsyncTask should be in either the on
onPreExecute() or onPostExecute() methods.

Hope this helps,
George

[android-developers] Why was “MediaPlayerService” replaced with “Android_DRM_Test” in Samsung Fascinate (Android 2.3.5)?

2013-04-23 Thread George Liu

I wrote own Android Application, which could work with Android Native
Player to playback any video files. My own App provides Android Native
Player with video data chunks through http progressive streaming during
playback.

My App works fine on Samsung Captivate and Sprint EPIC 4G, however, it does
not work well on Samsung Fascinate (2.3.5). During my App sending video
data chunks to Android Native Player, Android Native Player frequently
quickly repeat to do rebuffering (MEDIA_INFO_BUFFERING_START
MEDIA_INFO_BUFFERING_END) around the same position, which causes video
playback frozen or stuttering.

 According to my log information, I found out that the “MediaPlayerService”
was replaced by “Android_DRM_Test“ in the Samsung Fascinate. So, my
question is here, why was “MediaPlayerService” replaced with
“Android_DRM_Test” in Samsung Fascinate? Does Andriod_DRM_Test cause the
issue above? If yes, would it be fixed in the coming Android 2.3.6 for
Samsung Fascinate?

[android-developers] Re: Is there any minimium number or cut off number to get crash report from app in Google Play's Developer's console

2013-04-23 Thread George Baker
Venky,

I wouldn't rely on the Google Console for error reporting. It is
unreliable and relays on the user to send the report. I've also found
the granularity to not be very good. I would recommend something like
Flurry. It is also free and offers some very good results. Another option
would be to use a library for sending you more detailed error results. I
have a free open source one that you are welcome to use. It will post the
error results and additional information to a web page. You can then have
it email it to you or use it in a database. If needed, I'll be happy to
help you with it. I haven't included them in Github yet but I can also
give you several php scripts for it that are easy to set up. You can find
it at https://github.com/gb2002/ExceptTrack .

Hope this helps,
George

 be very minimum as of now.

 Crash report will be the only reason for me to register in Google Play at

the source for the Android OS. What you will need is the Android SDK which
you can get at http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html, You'll want to
look towards the bottom of the page under download for other platforms -
SDK Tools only. You will also need a copy of JAVA 1.6.

I would recommend you take a look at this Android development workflow
explanation on the Developer.Android.Com site. It should help explain the
process of building an app (
http://developer.android.com/tools/workflow/index.html).  There are also
some tutorials on the site. They are for the Eclipse IDE however. While it
is possible to build an Android app without an IDE it will be very very
difficult to do. This is especially true for the layouts of your calendar
app and if you are new to Android development. In short not using an IDE
will dramatically lengthen the amount of time development takes because of
debugging, layout, etc... That being said it can be done. However, I
wouldn't recommend it.

Finally, as for building it for your phone only the process is virtually
identical if you build it for your device only or many. About the only
difference is you don't have to worry about testing it on other devices and
won't have to upload to the Playstore.

Hope this helps,
George

[android-developers] Re: Eclipse exported apk crashing

2013-01-28 Thread George Baker
Sohayb,

It could definitely be Proguard. I have two ideas for you. First turn
debugging on for the app in the manifest so you can see the debug output
 on your device. Then turn proguard off and try running your apk on the
device. The debug output should tell you what is happening. If the app
runs then it is almost definitely Proguard at fault.

 Will that have to do with the proguard configurations or anything else?!

[android-developers] Re: Key should not be taken by activity till Toast is shown

2013-01-24 Thread George Baker
I agree with Treking and recommend using a dialog. You can build one with
your own layout and make it similar to a toast without any buttons. Then
setup a handler and a runnable to make it disappear
after a length of time. You can also use the runnable to activate
keystrokes to the activity once the dialog is gone.

Hope this helps,
George

 The toast duration is Toast.LENGTH_LONG.

 My requirement is till the Toast is shown to the user, no Keys should be

 For this, I am trying the below thing.
 I am starting a thread and in the run() of Thread, I am calling
 sleep(Toast.LENGTH_LONG).

 In the onKeyUp() of the activity, I am checking whether Thread is alive.

 All the time thread state is returned as TERMINATED and isAlive() is
 returned as false.

 I want a way for the activity not to take any keys till my toast is alive.

 Any help would be really appreciated.

 Thanks,

[android-developers] Re: Android MVC

2013-01-24 Thread George Baker
To take Nobu Games' example one step further you do have a singleton that
is always running and that is the application class. You can subclass it
and use it to store any state variables you want to use across you app.
 That way if you need to switch activities you can and don't have to do
everything in one God activity. You can access the application as shown
below where YourApplicationClass is your sub-classed application object.
 Just make sure when storing in the application object you save things
immediately to persistent storage if you need the data to outlive the
session. Reason being is while the application has a onCreate() event it
does not have an onDestory(). It does have an onTerminate() but it is
not guaranteed to execute on every exit.

((YourApplicationClass)mCTX.getApplicationContext())

I also agree with using broadcast receivers and intents. If data security
is important be sure to use LocalBroadcastManager to launch and manager
receivers so that you don't broadcast the intent to the entire phone.

Thanks,
George

[android-developers] Re: Send multidimensional array via POST request?

2013-01-08 Thread George Baker
I would also recommend JSON. As Nobu said it is compact and many server
side programming languages have libraries readily available for it.
 Otherwise as far as I know mimicking a form post doesn't offer an input
type that natively supports an embedded name value pair.

Here's an example on how to write one

  JSONObject msgJSON = new JSONObject();
msgJSON.put(error, new JSONObject());
msgJSON.getJSONObject(error).put(code, errorCode);
msgJSON.getJSONObject(error).put(message, new JSONObject());
msgJSON.getJSONObject(error).getJSONObject(message).put(lang,en-us);
msgJSON.getJSONObject(error).getJSONObject(message).put(value,errorMessage);
msgJSON.put(value,errorMessage);

[android-developers] Any news on when the market/play/whatever stats will update properly?

2012-09-29 Thread George Pantazis
This is getting ridicolous now, the stats stop updating for days, the
counts when they do update are not accurate, instead of changing the name
or creating a useless console with no extra functionality shouldnt at last
Google provide us with real stats? Dont need any graphs or anything
created, a json, xml or even a simple csv is fine. Google devs use itunes
connect and I am sure they do use the API there to track stats isnt it time
after 16 different Android API's to at last get the basics required by a
dev?

We will obviously never be able to reply to comments if we are not top devs
or get access to any other usefull tool, at least give us proper updating
stats.

[android-developers] compatible-screens in android manifest - Filtering too many devices incorrectly?

2011-10-18 Thread George
I used compatible-screens as documented here
http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html and
I found some odd behavior.

Incorrect behavior: Including all possible combinations is NOT
equivalent to not specifying compatible-screens in the manifest at
all.

Expected behavior: All known combinations should be equivalent to NOT
specifying the compatible-screens

Example: If I specify this in my manifest,

compatible-screens
!-- all small size screens --
screen android:screenSize=small android:screenDensity=ldpi /
screen android:screenSize=small android:screenDensity=mdpi /
screen android:screenSize=small android:screenDensity=hdpi /
screen android:screenSize=small android:screenDensity=xhdpi /

!-- all normal size screens --
screen android:screenSize=normal android:screenDensity=ldpi /

screen android:screenSize=normal android:screenDensity=mdpi /

screen android:screenSize=normal android:screenDensity=hdpi /

screen android:screenSize=normal android:screenDensity=xhdpi /

!-- all large size screens --
screen android:screenSize=large android:screenDensity=ldpi /
screen android:screenSize=large android:screenDensity=mdpi /
screen android:screenSize=large android:screenDensity=hdpi /
screen android:screenSize=large android:screenDensity=xhdpi /

!-- all xlarge size screens --
screen android:screenSize=xlarge android:screenDensity=ldpi /

screen android:screenSize=xlarge android:screenDensity=mdpi /

screen android:screenSize=xlarge android:screenDensity=hdpi /

screen android:screenSize=xlarge android:screenDensity=xhdpi /

/compatible-screens
I expect the number of devices on which the app will be available will
be the same as with manifest without compatible-screens specified.
In the Developer Console I see 243 devices with (compatible-screens
+ all the screen combinations specified) Vs 650 without specified in
the manifest.

Developer Console output: This application is only available to
devices with these features, as defined in your application manifest.
Screen layouts: SMALL NORMAL LARGE XLARGE Required device features
android.hardware.touchscreen This application is available to over 243
devices. Show devices

[android-developers] GLSurfaceView onPause/OnResume, transparent Activities on top

2011-03-17 Thread George
I have a GLSurfaceView in my Activity and call onPause/onResume when
my Activity is paused or resumed respectively.

When I launch an opaque Activity on top of my GLsurfaceView calling
onPause/onResume seems reasonable, but suppose I launch a transparent
Activity on top on my GLSurfaceView, I don't want to call onPause
because I want any animations running to be seen. Also since onPause
deletes the context, reconstructing onResume may cause visual
artifacts like textures going from blank (since they got cleaned up)
to actual texture.

It is ok to call GLSurfaceview.onPause/onresume in onStop and
onRestart, since we are guaranteed that in onStop that the
GLSurfaceView won't be visible?

[android-developers] a way to receive raw 802.11 packets (or broadcast 802.11 packets)?

2011-02-24 Thread George Nychis
Hi all,

Is there a way to receive the raw 802.11 packets up from the WiFi
card? I am guessing that the filter is set on the WiFi card to only
pass up packets with the destination address being the MAC of the WiFi
card. I was wondering if it is possible to change this filter, and
receive other packets up? It'd be great to hear what can be done
without rooting.

As a compromise, is it possible to receive just broadcast packets up?
(e.g., to MAC ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff). I found the following in the WiFi
documentation:
http://developer.android.com/reference/android/net/wifi/WifiManager.MulticastLock.html

However, I get the feeling that it is referring to IP multicast
packets and not 802.11 broadcast packets. Is this true? If so, I
feel that it is very odd to place it in the WifiManger, as IP
multicast has to do with transport layer (parsed well above the WiFi
stack), and would best belong in the socket library. However, if it
does have to deal with 802.11 broadcast packets, I'd love a pointer on
documentation for how to receive them. I haven't been able to find
anything on this yet.

Thanks,
George

 Hi Mark.

 I've taken a look at this, and put together a quick sample based on
 your demo.

 It seems to me that you must have your list content already separated
 before adding them to the ListView. So, you add one Array, then you
 add a different View, then you add another Array.

 I can probably find a way to sort my data in this way, although I was
 hoping to add the view on the fly. My data is currently returned as
 one long List, and I don't know in advance where these separator views
 are going to go. I need to study the contents of my data as it's added
 to the View, and say Ah, here's some condition, add a separator view
 here. Does that make sense, and can this be done?

 Thanks.

There seems to be a bug in ActivityManagerNative.java. The return of

[android-developers] Can't create multiple alarms

2010-09-14 Thread George
I can't seem to create multiple alarms. In the code below, the last
alarm's onReceive gets fired but not the first one.

AlarmManager sleepAlarm = (AlarmManager)
getSystemService(ALARM_SERVICE);
AlarmManager wakeupAlarm = (AlarmManager)
getSystemService(ALARM_SERVICE);
wakeupAlarm.set(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP,
wakeupTime.getTimeInMillis(),
wakeupPendingIntent);
sleepAlarm.set(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP,
sleepTime.getTimeInMillis(),
sleepPendingIntent);

If I move sleepAlarm before wakeupAlarm, then wakeupAlarm's onReceive
fires. I've tried it also with a single AlarmManager and PendingIntent
but it only fires the last one created. I'd appreciate any advice or
things to try.

[android-developers] Monkey tool: Launch a particular Activity

tried with an activity with android.intent.category.DEFAULT, it exited

Any idea if this is supported - launching only a single Activity with

[android-developers] intent filters created at runtime

2010-08-05 Thread George Schneeloch
Is it possible to create an intent filter at runtime to receive
intents which are directed at certain websites?

I created the basic hello world project in Eclipse and added this to
AndroidManifest.xml, and it worked (a choice was given between the
browser and this app):
intent-filter
action android:name=android.intent.action.VIEW /
category android:name=android.intent.category.DEFAULT /

data android:host=www.terribleinformation.org /
data android:scheme=http /
/intent-filter

However, if I add this code to the main activity instead, it doesn't
work:
@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.main);

IntentFilter filter = new IntentFilter();
filter.addAction(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
filter.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_DEFAULT);
filter.addDataAuthority(www.terribleinformation.org, null);
filter.addDataScheme(http);

registerReceiver(new BroadcastReceiver() {

@Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
Log.v(IntentFilterActivity, Intent
received!);

}
}, filter);
}

Any suggestions?

[android-developers] GLSurfaceView transparent bg within a ViewGroup

Re: [android-developers] Re: I've found a way to stop piracy of my apps

2010-05-05 Thread George | SlideME
Dear dadical,
*
*I salute your initiative and congratulate your efforts in the anti-piracy
conflict. Digital Rights Management was never an easy adventure. Nowadays,
everything can be broken by using different methods. Some fall easier, some
do harder. However, I do not intend to highlight this in your licensing API.

I have few thoughts for your licensing approach, as follows :

   1. I as an end-user cannot welcome the disclosure of
   accounts/credentials, which by design are required for your module to work
   (android.permission.GET_ACCOUNTS, android.permission.USE_CREDENTIALS). Those
   in combination with android.permission.INTERNET makes me highly worried
   about first at all possible scam. A simple example would be : I write an
   application and claim I am using your 'licensing module' so the end-user is
   installing my app thanks to trusting you. Then I do whatever I want with
   that.
  - Based on the above, I as a Vendor can not embrace the permission
  enforcement for such disclosure of private data in my products
  - What if there is a shared account? This will work on all devices
  that have that user credentials?
  2. You have reversely-engineered the Android Market Transfer Protocol
   and Markup Language for purchase verification.
  - Do you have the guarantee that Google will not change the protocol
  and your module will not fail?
 - You will most likely need to reversely engineer the
 protocol/language again and come with an updated version. How
about the time
 frame you need to fix this and the clients unable to use the
application?
  3. Is your module legit? For how long? What guarantees can you grant?

There could be more but for now this is all that came in my mind.

On the other hand, have you heard of
http://slideme.org/slidelockhttps://slideme.org/slidelock that
can be used today for protecting applications for global distribution where
there is no Android Market?

Re: [android-developers] Re: Selling outside the Android Market-- Use Google Checkout to sell direct from website??? SlideMe.Org??

2010-04-19 Thread George | SlideME
Shane,

Seems you received just enough information from Francois to put blame and
accuse me and SlideME for being dishonest publicly. I am afraid I have to
disappoint you and provide the communication transcripts, so the members on
this list can judge for themselves if we are dishonest or what kind of a
person you are with words to mash it all up in your favor.

-
I have prepared a transcript of the communication with Francois (koxx).

21 Oct 2009: Sends email to Shane and Shane confirms: Just send me an
invoice with the time period, contact info, method of payment, amount and
then I'll take care of it.
(this did not happen)

8th Nov 2009: Sends invoice within email as text and not as an invoices
attachment  signed as required
9th Nov 2009 : Thanks me for his payout executed from my personal account.

Jan 28th, 2010: After asking if invoices were sent, confirms No, there was
no 'true' invoice in 2009. Just this (an informal text in email)

Jan 28th, 2010: Confirm that we issued a payout without a proper invoice
from developer and that we were in error for doing so, and we needed a
proper invoice.

Feb 2, 2010: Issued report, again.

March 28th, 2010: Followed up with developer on status and why he decided to
unpublish as customers wanted an upgrade and asked Was due to any reason
when previous partner 'Shane' did not remit payment to you on time?
Answer: Mar 28, 2010: Confirms, and claims he forgot to issue invoice to us.

March 29th, 2010: We issued up to date reports again

April 4th, 2010: Assisted personally developer to prepare invoices since
english is not his native language and was finding it difficult to prepare
such invoices.

April 6th, 2010: Received for the 1st time proper invoices for first payout
and new second invoice.

April 8th, 2010: Remittance sent for last invoice

Assumed developer was happy now, but again not enough of my help was enough
to keep him as a publisher on SlideME. Offered developer to forward his
email address to users of his application that wanted an upgrade and did so
as per their request.
-

Shane, one request. You need to retract now in public any such accusations
that I and SlideME are operating a dishonest operation. I would agree you
could make such accusations if you were a judge and have a clear picture
from both sides. Nothing gives you the right in public without knowing both
sides of the story to make such strong accusations that could be detrimental
to SlideME.

re: Martin's case, Martin missed reading the requirements documented clearly
in the 1st email to him as explained earlier in this thread and he issued
what was definitely not an invoice that we had to ignore. A human error on
his behalf, does not make us dishonest. I will take blame, by not following
up with him and mentioning that we could not accept this invoice, that I did
not do.

We have gone out of our way to assist these developers and it seems
developers that are demanding, or for some reason do not like the way we
conduct business tend to publicly post negative comments for their own
reasons. Unfortunately, we can only stretch our hand out so much to assist
them, and still we find they take a bite at it.

 I have a general policy of not attacking people personally, but in this

 dishonest individual. You came on this list and publicly accused me of being
 the reason developers did not get paid. And yet, it took 5 months after I
 left SlideME for you to resolve and pay a simple invoice. Yet you gave a
 completely (dishonest) impression on this list that it was my fault. You
 also blamed your recently botched rollout of SAM on me (4 months after I
 left). In addition, you were dishonest in regards to your replies to Martin
 on this list.

 SlideME needs to take responsibility for its actions. Stop pointing fingers
 to others. Stop spinning things. Just cleanup the payout mess. Developers
 are saying it's not working for them and is likely the cause of all these
 angry posts from developers. Deleting these posts from SlideME forums raises
 a lot of eyebrows and was no small factor in why I brought these issues
 forward.

 And for god's sake, stop blaming me for all SlideME's problems. I left 5
 months ago.

2010-04-17 Thread George | SlideME
Shane,

You are not aware in any way of the conversation between Martin and SlideME
(since you were not with SlideME) or maybe where Martin missed what he
actually needed to do that was clear in the first email to him, that he
unfortunately did not follow. I am sure your interests since you departed
SlideME is to damage SlideME's image as best you can for whatever personal
reasons you may have.

You also failed to mention for the three developers you posted that had
problems receiving a payout, that they were in contact with you during that
time and you failed to respond in many emails from them. Fortunately I had
means to keep in contact and remitted payouts to them from accounts you did
not control. Many support issues also had to be resolved by phone contact
since you lacked to follow up. So I would appreciate to not use your wrong
doings whilst at SlideME against what SlideME is building today with great
success.

Anyway, thanks for pointing out the BBB, as it needs to be fixed and handy
for developers to know as they venture into the business world of who to
trust and not to trust. Don't know why you pointed it out though, when
SlideME's interest is to grow and support developers at best we can with our
resources. It would not make sense for what we are pursuing if we did wrong
against developers.

Shane you may also want to check your Mikandi terms against
http://www.copyscape.com, as it appears to be a clone of Android's Market.
Guess, you shouldn't put your new partners in such a responsible state.

re: Martin follow up issue.

Helped Martin format his invoice and what he needs to include:

Invoice to: SlideME LLC (that he missed)
Address: companies address (also that he missed)
Invoice #:

A simple explanation of what should be included in an invoice can be found
here: http://www.ir35calc.co.uk/how_to_prepare_an_invoice.aspx

We have helped Martin format his invoice as we have helped many other
developers, but as anyone can understand, we need to conduct business a
certain way and we are not able to take all developers by the hand if they
do not submit as we require such paperwork. I am sure many other developers
are aware of how much more complex applications are for other stores,
including Apple's AppStore, RIM's AppWorld, or even MS WinMo's Marketplace
and doubt they will put in the effort as I have on a personal level to
assist them, with our limited resources.

I am more than happy for Martin to confirm if such details were mentioned to
him in the initial lengthy explanatory email to him, and additionally invite
even more developers to have their say.

Wish to also say thank you to Paul for uploading his application to SlideME,
considering the negativity of this thread from an ex-partner. I am sure Paul
and many others will be well looked after as best as we can and have their
say one day.

Thanks,
George

Hi Martin,

 SlideME LLC is a Washington State based company so you have some avenues
 you can pursue. It appears you've tried to directly resolve the issue with
 SlideME but have been unsuccessful. The Better Business Bureau can assist
 you in getting such issues resolved.

 https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/cibrbusiness.aspx?e=4661378id=0927e2ab-0046-4101-9482-3ef0436b177csite=114

 For some reason, the BBB is still listing me as the principal contact for
 SlideME, so you do choose to report the issue, let them know that the
 current contact is '*George Christopoulos' *SlideME's phone number is not
 listed on the BBB site, so it can be found here:
 http://slideme.org/contact

 Hope this helps,
 Shane

Re: [android-developers] Re: Selling outside the Android Market-- Use Google Checkout to sell direct from website??? SlideMe.Org??

2010-04-16 Thread George | SlideME
Martin,

Your ticket reference is still open but as stated you need to conform to
issuing a proper invoice based on the report we will issue you and not just
a copy and paste in some document of some transactions as you choose to do
so. There is a formal format you need to follow so such an invoice can be
acceptable and a minimum - and you have not received this minimum.

If the developer community prefers for us to remit payout below the $100
minimum, we could come up with a plan to accommodate. Maybe we could remit
pre-payments as deposits, and then await for invoices from developers. Will
need to confirm this first.

The reason, we are requiring invoices from developers, is since SlideME is
invoicing end users and applying sales taxes where applicable, such as VAT
etc, we also need to receive invoices of such expense costs. Otherwise we
will be taxed on the whole amount of the sale as being profit. Thus, we wont
be able to provide such a high payout to developers. Hope this normal
business practice is understood by most developers here. Similarly, you are
expected to invoice your end users from the other stores you use to obey
regulations and apply sales taxes and remit such collected sales taxes to
each local authority. This is where SlideME handles all these complexities
for developers.

In terns of other issues posted in this thread, one needs to keep in mind
when these problems occurred and why. It's very easy for one to post some
negative comments especially when they were in fault and using them against
us today.

Will make sure we consult and update you all to what extent we can reveal
such information without breaching any agreements we have in place, that
will be valuable to developers overall.

Additionally, will come up with some variant models to initiate for
discussions to satisfy any developers concerns. The SlideME discussion
forums will be the place for this.

Re: [android-developers] Rating Bar Stars cutoff in Droid

2010-03-16 Thread George | SlideME
If you are referring to eclair, this could be related to
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2324
Emulator displays fine ratingbar stars, but not on actual HD devices such as
Nexus and Droid - where it over-scales stars and affects overall formatting.
On some other devices where eclair is running some updated build version,
problem seems to have been resolved.

Seems to be a platform issue, so I guess user will need to wait for an
update from Google or his device vendor, and doubt if vendor would even be
aware of this issue.

Unfortunately, there are discrepancies with what emulator displays and what
actually appears on devices. So developers using ratingbar/stars should
avoid using if possible or firstly test on target actual devices.

George

HI,

 When i use the rating bar, the same on HTC have no issue when
 displayed. But the same code on Droid makes the Stars cut-off. Please
 let me know what could be the issue

 Below is the piece of my layout code:

 RatingBar
 android:id=@+id/ratingbar2
 android:layout_width=wrap_content
 android:layout_height=wrap_content
 android:numStars=5
 style=?android:attr/ratingBarStyle
 android:stepSize=1.0/

[android-developers] Final location of animation to continue animation

How to I find the final location of this object (since the View

[android-developers] Re: Updates to the Android SDK

2009-12-06 Thread George Scott
My development system: Windows 7 64-bit, 4GB RAM, 2.1 Dual Core
notebook

Eclipse development issue:

I've updated the needed bits for Android development with Eclipse for
Java. However, I do not choose to use the emulator, I prefer testing
on my Droid mobile phone.

When I try to Run my application in the Eclipse IDE it shows an
error of ERROR: Application requires API version 6. Device API
version is 5 (Android 2.0)

Also in the Android Device Chooser dialog there is a red X in the
Target column.

Is this something to do with the USB drivers? If so, I've already
tried pointing the Device Manager applet to pickup any new drivers
from C:\android-sdk-windows\usb_driver on my system, where they
reside.

Further ideas are welcomed and would be most appreciated. I'm a new
developer and am really looking forward to the possibilities with the
Android platform.

Keep in mind that your app may need to get PCI certification too. Several
agents exist that provide such a service that are certified to do such

[android-developers] Alternate Line Service (ALS) Support.

2009-09-08 Thread George Antoniadis

The ALS allows a sim to have two phone numbers registered to it and
gives the ability to the user to choose from which line (1/2) s/he
wants to make a phonecall or send an sms/mms.
Also allows for any of the two lines to receive calls without having
to turn the one off first.

Most old school mobile phones support this feature.

Does android support ALS natively and if not do we have any idea if
this is a planned feature?
Also would it be possible for this to be coded as an application?

ALS on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternate_line_service

Thank you very much in advance.

[android-developers] Re: Find Default Activity corresponding to Intent

2009-08-11 Thread George

Inspite of choosing a Default app for my intent, isDefault is set to
false to for both the ResolveInfos in my list. The order of the
ResolveInfo seems to be based on install time - I verified this by
choosing the second app in my Intent Resolver dialog and called
queryIntentActivities again; my default app still showed up second in
the list and isDefault was set to false.

Also, the documentation of isDefault says nothing about it being the
default app, rather just that if the category of the intent was
DEFAULT - This filter has specified the Intent.CATEGORY_DEFAULT,
meaning it would like to be considered a default action that the user
can perform on this data. (Related question: When does this become
true?)

Any other pointers? Will PackageManager.getPreferredActivities help me
in anyway?

[android-developers] Re: Find Default Activity corresponding to Intent

2009-08-11 Thread George

Thanks Dainne.

Is there a way to uniquely identify the intent resolver activity? UID?
name + packageName?

 Sorry yes I am wrong again... it's been a while since I've looked at the

 Okay so hopefully this will be right -- the method in the package manager
 for determining the default activity is not public (it is
 PackageManagerService.findPreferredActivity() fwiw).  The only suggestion I
 can make is to just call resolveIntentActivity(), which will always only
 return a single activity, either the one matching activity, the current
 default if the user has picked a default, or the intent resolver if there is
 no default.

  choosing the second app in my Intent Resolver dialog and called
  queryIntentActivities again; my default app still showed up second in
  the list and isDefault was set to false.

Will PackageManager.getPreferredActivities help me
  in anyway?

[android-developers] Re: MemoryFile between processes

2009-07-13 Thread George

I have the same question too. What is the use-case for exposing
MemoryFile without an API to get the File descriptor (to pass to
another process) or a way to allow access from another process?

On Jun 23, 2:13 pm, Alec gorje...@gmail.com wrote:
 I tested the MemoryFile between threads just to make sure I was doing

 shared.  Is this going to be supported in the near future?

  Also, fwiw, there is no reason to use a MemoryFile to share between two

   Hi,

   I've been able to send data via shared memory between threads within a
   process using MemoryFile.  I then tried to send data between a service

   passed.  The name for each call the MemoryFile's constructor was the
   same.  Is it possible to share data between processes using a
   MemoryFile?

   Two MemoryFiles with the same name don't automatically map to the same
   area.
   Currently the only way to use a MemoryFile across processes is to use
   hidden APIs, which you shouldn't do.

[android-developers] Getting Service interface across processes

2009-06-29 Thread George

I am trying to create a RemoteService that runs in its own process.
For that I created a service in a separate APK with the corresponding
aidl file.

In another APK,
I copied the aidl file of the Service, so that I have interfaces to
the RemoteService. The corresponding .java file is generated.
In my calling application, I am able to do, Intent i = new Intent
(com.xxx.yyy.RemoteService.REMOTE_SERVICE);
i.setClassName(com.xxx.yyy,
com.xxx.yyy.RemoteService);
ComponentName name = this.startService(i);

Till here, it works fine.

Now, I bind to the RemoteService and in OnServiceConnected
(ComponentName name, IBinder service), and I do

mService = IRemoteService.Stub.asInterface(service);
mService.myMethod() -- This does not invoke myMethod in the
RemoteService APK, by just executes the myMethod in the proxy class in
the java file generated from the aidl file.

How do I ensure that myMethod() in the separate process is called?
