[android-porting] Factory configurable data

2009-04-17 Thread Zhubham

Hi Experts,

I need your help in knowing if string/integer can be made factory
configurable in android.

eg:
A welcome message is stored at some location. To change this message
all a person needs to do is go to the above location and enter the
new
text. The ROM image build command would now take this new string for
display. The advantage is that you don't need to recompile your
entire
project.

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,
Zhubham

From link below i found the basic idea of porting C library for
MIPS. My doubt is any android specific change required in porting, or
is it a basic porting steps followed in every new processor
architecture. Please clarify.

[android-porting] why in emulator, /dev/eac is connected with the audio?

2009-04-17 Thread max

Hi Buddies,

I wanna get understood that why in emulator dev/eac is the device of
audio,

as I know, in external/qemu/audio, there is all kinds audio drivers,
such as oss, alsa,

but I am very curious why in the android linux system, the dev/eac
is connected with those drivers.

Anybody can give me some light on that?

historical reason, but mostly because that's what the emulator-specific
kernel supports

as I know, in external/qemu/audio, there is all kinds audio drivers,

these are only used to send audio output to the host sound system, this has
nothing
to do with what is supported in the emulated system. These are not 'drivers'
by the way,
just usual call to sound libraries / system interfaces

you can have a look at external/qemu/hw/goldfish_audio.c to see the code
used to
support sound hardware emulation in Android

but I am very curious why in the android linux system, the dev/eac

[android-porting] adb over ethernet and not over USB

2009-04-17 Thread a druid

Hi,

I wondered, whether I could use adb over ethernet instead of adb over
USB

Looking at the forums I did not really understand, whether this is
feasible, was feasible, would be easy to
accomplish.

Thanks in advance for any pointer / suggestions.

I saw mentioning of an obsolete environment variable ADBHOST,
but no up to date discussion about adb over ethernet

Does anybody know more?

Thanks in advance for any pointers

[android-porting] Re: ALSA sound: Unable to attach mixer

2009-04-17 Thread RongJun Ying
Your ctrl element count must match the value in the asound.conf.

Verify the snd_kcontrol_new struct object at the ALSA audio driver.

For example:
SOC_SINGLE(Line Gain, PLAYBACK_CTRL1, 5, 7, 0), //In the
snd_kcontrol_new struct object

then:
the asound.conf file must configuration following line:
pcm.AndroidPlayback {
type hooks
slave.pcm {
type hw
card 0
device 0
}

Thanks in advance for any pointer / suggestions.

I saw mentioning of an obsolete environment variable ADBHOST,
but no up to date discussion about adb over ethernet

 Does anybody know more?

Thanks in advance for any pointers

[android-porting] Re: X86 ALSA Sound Issue

2009-04-17 Thread Androidphan

I finally got my sound working. I tested it outside Android with
aplay. Alsa-utils can be downloaden now from the Android repository. I
used alsactl store in Ubuntu to get an asound.state. With the values
from that file I created my own asound.conf. It looks a lot like the
one in my alsa thread.

Btw... You just modified the USES_ALSA_AUDIO... in mk file and added
the lines in init.rc (and moved asound.conf in the right place), isn't
 it?
Tonight I'll try to copy a song in sd partition.

The correct steps seem to be

thanks again.

Hi,

It's working now. No idea, what I made wrong.

What is important though is to kill the previous server.
 ADBHOST=[you host ip address] ./adb kill-server
ADBHOST=[you host ip address] ./adb devices

what is a little confusing though is, that the output of ./adb
devices
is dentical between a real device and an emulated device.

Thanks again and bye

[android-porting] Re: Porting Andorid for MIPS

2009-04-17 Thread David Turner
Porting the C library to a new CPU architecture requires at the very minimum
the following:

- modify SYSCALLS.TXT to include the MIPS-specific Linux kernel syscalls
- modify bionic/libc/tools/gensyscalls.py to add MIPS-specific assembly
fragments for the syscall stub generator
- probably modify bionic/libc/tools/checksyscalls.py to support MIPS as well
- a set of Linux kernel that should be placed into
bionic/libc/kernel/original. *Please* read the docs in bionic/libc/kernel/
to understand what this means
- modify bionic/libc/kernel-tools/default.py to support MIPS as well
- re-generate cleaned-up kernel headers through
bionic/libc/kernel/tools/update-all.py
- re-generate MIPS-specific syscall stubs through your updated
gensyscalls.py script
- provide MIPS-specific assembly sources for a few things, like the ones on
bionic/libc/arch-arm/. Most of these can be taken from recent OpenBSD
sources
- testing, testing, testing...

I advise you to send patches for review on Gerrit so we can see what you're
trying to do and tell you if it's ok, etc..

 Hi David Turner
 Thanks for reply .

From link below i found the basic idea of porting C library for
MIPS. My doubt is any android specific change required in porting, or
is it a basic porting steps followed in every new processor
 architecture. Please clarify.

You need to convert them with hprof-conv before standard tools will
read them.

This tool exists in recent source trees, in dalvik/tools/hprof-conv,
and might be in the 1.5 early look SDK (I haven't checked). If all
else fails you can download it from http://bigflake.com/HprofConv.c.txt
and build it yourself (it should compile stand-alone, no Android
components needed).

I just downloaded Android from Android git repository (04/17/09). It
compile properly and I manage to install it to my eee pc 701 (followed
all the instructions). However, when it boot it keeps on giving lots
of the following message:

I can use the command line but it wouldn't load the graphics
interface.

I'm still new with this, please help, thank you.

You probably have solved it. I just encountered the same problem. It
turns out bionic has a file with the same name util.h. It confuses
the compiler.

Thank you Yi,

Applied the patched (I applied some of the cursor patch manually).

The building process stopped halfway and I got these messages:

rm -f out/host/linux-x86/obj/EXECUTABLES/aidl_intermediates/

Android won't work in 16M of RAM. Anyway, if you have two operating systems
running, there must be some other software managing them, and shouldn't you
just have that software partition the RAM as desired?
