Re: [ARIE-L] Fujitsu fi-6230 scanner
We have this have the fi-6230 scanner and use it with Ariel 3.4 and the standalone version Odyssey. I didn't set it up, but it works fine with these applications. Ruth Nihiser ILL Associate Millikin University (ICK) 217-424-3560 i...@mail.millikin.edu Craig, Tom tom.cr...@uthct.edu 11/18/2009 9:56 AM I have found information on a Fujitsu web site that says that the fi-6230 has dither patterns 0, 1, 2, and 3. This is very important to us because the articles we scan often contain images of x-rays, pathology, etc., and gray scale doesn't handle these as well as dither pattern 1 does. This has been a big issue for us in trying to find a suitable replacement for our Fujitsu ScanPartner 15C. Does anyone have any experience with the fi-6230 with Ariel, especially 3.4? [ARIE-L] E-Doc Processing Question: tiff display oddities
Forwarded by the list manager == Original Message Subject:FW: E-Doc Processing Question: tiff display oddities Date: Fri, 21 Nov 2008 11:08:13 -0500 From: Atkins, David P [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Discussion of the Ariel Document Transmission System arie-l@u.washington.edu Hello all, We have one PC dishing out some tiff display oddities. Most pages in a multipage tiff look fine but, at the end, pages either display at a rotated 90 degrees from original or original images are obscured by what looks like huge barcodes. Below, you'll see and example. We have the problem w/ both the Microsoft Office Document Imaging (Office 2003) and ILLiad e-doc processing. Running XP Professional, SP 3. The PC, of course, is our Ariel in-box for Borrowing processing. The final product comes out ok. It's the display that's problematic. Sometimes we don't know what we're looking at. The problem is localized to this one PC. We can look at the same tiff on other machines w/out the rotation or barcodesque weirdness. Anyone experience and (hopefully) fix this problem? Re: [ARIE-L] ARIEL EMAIL
Some mail systems truncate messages that are too large rather than rejecting them outright. That may be what Gmail is doing, although it might not be obvious to the recipient. The message will probably cut off part of the attachment portion rather than the text section the patron sees. Because the PDF attachment is incomplete, the recipient won't be able to open it in Acrobat. If you have a gmail account yourself, try sending yourself a test. If you can't open the attachment, view the message source (click the downward arrow next to Reply and choose Show Original from the menu) and see if there are any indications that message has been shortened. Most mail systems will add a note at the bottom (e.g. Message truncated) if the message has been shortened. Hope this helps. - Mark Roberts Univ of Washington Libraries (WAU) [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Stephen, The same goes for us regarding sending to gmail - recipients get the email but can't open the attachment. We also have a list of hospitals that don't receive messages at all when we send them via Ariel email, but unfortunately I haven't been able to determine a pattern. They are more the exception than the rule, but we haven't figured out what might be blocking them at either end. For those sends, however, we don't receive a bounce back email, so the problem you're seeing might be different. Our IT department has been trying to find where the problem may be at our end. We get the notices in our Ariel mail folder from Mail Delivery Subsystem MAILER-DAEMON... that tell about permanent fatal errors, Host unknown, etc. Has anyone out there had a similar problem? The email addresses we use are the addresses that libraries put in their constant data on their OCLC requests. Could it be that these institutions have some kind of block on emails with attachments getting into their networks? People I have talked to at some of these libraries say they are supposed to be able to receive attachments. When I forward these transmissions to my personal email address and then forward them to the same addresses, the emails with attachments get to their destinations, usually. The odd thing is that we can send a PDF through Ariel email to a gmail address and it gets to the person's email box, but not to a .edu or .gov. I've checked our Ariel settings and can't find anything that seems out of order. Any suggestions? Thanks. Re: [ARIE-L] fujitsu fi6230 and xerox documate 632
We recently got the FI6230 scanner and are using it with Ariel 3.4. We love it. It's fast and quiet, especially compared to the inexpensive HP printer it replaced It seems to be working well with Ariel 3.4 and Odyssey - Standalone version. The ADF works well, but at first we had problems with pages coming through a little crooked. It seems like we got it adjusted now. The cover for the flat bed part of the scanner is very light. Which is good and bad. It's easy to lift and remove, but sometimes when you lift it, it comes off. I do like the design of the flatbed. It's easy to scan from journals, etc. without flipping the item around. Over all we are very pleased with it.
