Guys I am going to step back 2 years more... Incidentally I was hearing to the songs in "Zubeidaa" (again by the maestro ARR and Benegal). I am simply bowled over with the "Mehandi rachnewali.." and "Hai Na..". The tunes are simply beautiful, situational and rhythmic. The strings in "Hai Na.." are marvellous, simply !!! The melding of urdu/arabic meditative words with what I would call traditional scriptural chanting rag, is simply outstanding. I can't imagine Deepa Mehta using anybody other than ARR for her movies if ARR is available. Even in Hollywood-Bollywood, most of the background songs she used were ARR's. Listening to Ghoomparani and it's sense of pureness and feel of water, I get a feeling that the music of Water will be very close to this song. Boy, that just gives me goosbumps expecting more like Ghoomparani. What an amazing song executed to perfection. I think Swapna Mukherjee sounds better that Lata Mageshkar would've sounded, but I can understand why ARR thought of Lataji at first, after all she did ace Door Kahi Ek lullaby in Zubeidaa. There is no better deed than ZIKR, said the Holy Prophet of Allah. And those who do ZIKR of Allah from core of their hearts, become successful. And Zikr cuts Nafs (a human being's desire to do whatever he wants, good or bad but used mostly for the desire to do evil things) so Zikr is sword of Allah. zikr aman hai zikr hai fatah zikr shifa hai zikr hai dawa Allah ho baqimil qule fani aur fana hai sub wo muqab-Allah Zikr is peace, Zikr is victory, Zikr is remedy, and Zikr is prayer (I can't give exact meaning of the second line but it means something like this) Only Allah is eternal and will be there when nothing else will be there, as everything other than Allah will get destroyed one day. hey Noman.. excellent work.. I was stumped by some of the Urdu! Dhikr also means rememberance. The first part of the "asma-ul-husna" is YA HAYYUL YA QAYYUM I think.. Hasbi Rabbi Jalallah; Ma Fe Qalbi Ghairullah~=Enough (hasbi) is my Rabb, the Majestic (jalallah) for me, There is none (ghair) besides Allah in my heart (qalb). It's very similar to the meaning of "Only You" from VM. One of the many facets that I admire in Rahmans music is his distinctness. Ten seconds into any of his tracks and you can easily recognize his stamp. His recordings are bright, vibrant and never muddled. My question to some of the gurus out here is what makes his recordings so distinct? Given the rapid technological advancements in the recording industry and their easy accessibility how is it that ARRs work still stands out? Only Sandeep Chowta, Vishal Bharadwaj, Ismail Darbar, Harris Jeyraj and Monty Sharmas recording is comparable and at least in the same league. (For the more easily excitable members of the group please read the word recordings in caps, bold and italics). What is it that the rest of the crop of MDs lack? A good support team? actually zikr means "mention". but it is not used in the same sense in the song zikr by arr in bose. in urdu, to do zikr means to take allahs name again and again such that one can feel His mighty presence. this phenomenon is also seen in some hindu cultures where women sit in front of some idol , typically with flowing hair and singing and moving in the tune. it is seen in a lot of movies etc. Basically, doing zikr means going in to a state of ecstasy. -- Regards Ravi Nair Yahoo! Hi Guys This is reg the Mumbai Fans Meet we had planned sum time ago. Lookin at the activities goin on in other cities like Bangalore, Chennai, why shd the Mumbaiites stay behind? So, we hv decided to meet tentatively on 16th April 2005 (next Saturday). The place n time will be conveyed to u once u confirm ur presence. Our idea is to meet for a reasonably longer time & also have our own privacy. If we meet at any Cafe or restaurant, this is not poss.We also wanna meet the other fan members in Mumbai & get time to know each other. Most importantly, we want a place where we can also listen to ARR's Music & hv a Jam Session. I hv spoken to Rajeev Jain, Rakesh Gowda, Niyant, Anthony & a few others abt this idea & they hv readily agreed. We hv found out a place(a small part hall for 20-25 ppl) which also provides a sound system. It will be inclusive of Dinner (full meal with Soups, Starters, Main Course & Desserts). The entire room will be at or discreet for 4-5 hrs. The only condition is that we need to be min.20 ppl. We need to contribute around Rs.200-300 for this. If u guys r willing, we can make it a big success. This cud be done regularly on quarterly or half-yearly basis. So, we request all u guys who wanna join in to confirm their status by : 8th April 2005 (coz we need to give the Hall sum advance). I am not saying this just bcos I am a fan of ARR. But I feel the best thing to get from a singer is the job of a music director. Long back it was Lata Mangeshkar who said the same thing on ARR that she was surprised to hear the song after recording and wondered if it was her who did that. I hav also read that ARR picks from the multiple sample (takes) and puts the best bits from multiple instances. ARR once quoted "You can learn music, you can learn technology, but beyond all that, composing music is like a spiritual, divine journey". What he was probably trying to convey is that his approach is different from other MDs. He admits he's never perfect; many a time he's approached a soundtrack wrongly, gone back and come in again. He's repeated the process over and over again till he's satisfied with the result. Technically speaking, he's got the best state-of-the-art digital studio in probably the whole of India (In fact, daxco digital, the pioneers in sound technology plan to modify and construct a hude studio just for ARR) So, this might be an advantage as well. He also admits that to grow in music, one should keep an open mind- 1 should experiment. He does a lot of that while other MDs probably don't (for reasons best known to them). It's all about approach- he says that everytime he starts out on a song, he treats it as his first. Hi Prasad, The distinctness is not because of the technology available. Its all about the touch, the sense of music.. knowing dos and donts properly.
