Absolutely disappointed with the National Awards results. Meenaxi, Swades & Bose were all gems. The artcle says Vidyasagar's music in "Swarabhishekam" was as per the situation in the film and that he mainted traditional classical music using acoustic instruments for the entire score. Well I guess that has more value than than absolute originality, creativity and soulful music that touches your heart!!! So much of effort by ARR and absolutely no recognition for his genius. Hi all, Got a copy of AV Max today. There was an interesting interview with Salim - Sulaiman. They were asked to comment on some of the Music Directors who did Back Ground Scores. I am typing as it is from the magazine. A R Rahman :- "He is the best! We love his approach to sound. He is very complete in terms of a musician. His music really touches you. His minimalist approach is what we love. We liked the background score of 'Bombay','Yuva','Swades' and 'Roja' which was fabulous". Sandeep Chowta :- "Sandeep Chowta uses sample sounds most of the time or his themes are copied. The friendship theme from 'Satya' is copied from 'Once upon a time in America'. We were part of the score; playing keyboards". Vishal Bhardwaj :- "Very good stuff, but I hear his arranger Hitesh Sonik is responsible for his sound. But Vishal is very good; no doubt, he has a very different taste in music". Viju Shah :- "No taste, never felt anything for his score". R D Burman :- "Quite overrated. Nice ideas, but most of it were borrowed. He is a fantastic songwriter, path breaking musician, but for background music I am sorry". Laxmikant Pyarelal :- "Their scores were good but were over produced. For playing a simple piece, why should it be LOUD? Just by making it loud, it does not sound "WOW" - why do you need 75 violins? I went to my cassette waala today evening (13th) to enquire about Rising release. He was not aware of it, though the poster of rising was put in his shop telling "cd and cassette available at your nearest music shop" or something. He immediately rang the local person of Yash Raj film (music?). The person gave the info "it is being said that it will be released on 16th but no date has been given by the company." So there. Consider that it can release "anytime in next 3 to 4 days". As always, my cassette wala will ring me as soon as he comes to know of the release, and, most likely, I will get the first cassette of Indore. Hai Ajit, I am also completely agree your comment. Especially Desh Ki Mitti one of the best compositions i have ever heard in my life. I believe Genius are born they are not made. I don't think ARR will change his attitude of doing these kind of films. Infact he will love to do these kind of films rather doing masala films like Aa Aah. Rano, the pics of the new studio look absolutely stunning..i think i can now let out a secret to the group...which is that I m probably the only one here who visited Shafee Five when it was being done up last year...some of the arrangements you see in the picture like the seating area and others like the parking space, visitors lounge, cafe etc were part of my first draft document to a r r for the studio...ofcourse none of my thoughts and suggestions were forced upon a r ri had had a tour of the studio with the developers and sound engineer Sivakumar...
