Hi Jithu, I didn't mean what you people are feeling. What i felt at that time (when iruvar was released) i was still a school going boy and was biased to ARR's movies like Kaadhalan,Bombay,Gentleman, thiruda thiruda and such type of Dashing music from ARR. i compared Iruvar to them and felt so. Itz a long time being listened to Iruvar, now sure i'll listen to it. I AM SORRY if i hurt any of the fans feeling towards boss's music. And here there's no point of controversy, i don't think "controversy" is the proper word to be used here in this case. For sure i am deeply disturbed with this statement. Of course Indira was yet another classic from our boss. Indira in tamil has the pure essence of Southindian type of music. Nila kaigiradhu, ThodaThoda, Achcham illai and Ottakara are awesome. If anyone is used to listen thodathoda track for few times, for sure it'll haunt you for a
very long time.( I regret that i miss this album to add in the list).    Just spoke to sony bmg...the music will be out on 9th decand there 
are gona be 10 songs in the audio...a mix of instrumental n songs..isnt that 
amazing...

And he also told me that the songs are totally youthfull..and its 
gonna be a new Rahman music all together...and Rahman is at his best in this

Hi, Have u guys heard the song from Film Kalyug "'Jiya Dhadak Dhadak Jaye'? It sounds similar to ARR's "Yeh jo des hai tera" in begining. It uses similer soft notes and Tabla beats. It's the A R Rahman's trademark that every song he makes, creates a trend. Here are some eg. of his trend...   "O humdum" was followed by SEL in "No No" for 'Kyon ho gaya na" ;   Aitraaz's "Gela gela" was heavily inspired by Sathiya's 'Aye udi udi"  and everybody liking the Kailash kher's sound after "yuhi chala" and "Mangal mangal" and using him for ads and songs.  etc. etc.     bye     Avinash

"Once I was called to Chennai to
record a song for Rahman. I reached there at around 9 at night, and thought I'd
walk straight into the studio, record, and walk out. Instead, I was led to a
hotel room, where I was asked to take rest and have dinner. I felt that having
dinner would not be good for my voice, and I will feel sleepy, so I decided to
have dinner after the recording. Then it started getting late ... 11...12...
1... I thought he had forgotten to call me! At 2.30 am, a car came to pick me
up. At around three, when I reached the studio, I was given a walkman in which
a tune was recorded. The lyricist Mehboob explained the words to me and I tried
to fit the words into the tune. At around 3.30, I was standing in front of the
mic. And once I stood there, Rahman made me feel so comfortable, that I forgot
all about my sleep and hunger. I did not feel that I was singing for such a big
music director.. I was feeling absolutely at home! The song was "Khamosh
Raat" from Thakshak

The song had the same tune for all
the three stanzas. After singing two stanzas, I felt that it was getting
monotonous. So I just suggested to Rahman that the third stanza can be
different! He said "Give me five minutes... you can have coffee"...
so I made myself cozy with the coffee. In 3 minutes, he came back and told me
to sing the lines "Jeene ka tha hum mein dum, par nahi tha koi humdum"
ni another tune (Roopkumar Rathod sings this on air). And it was so awesome...
at 4 in the night, he was composing the tune, and I was singing it! That was
the tune which featured in the final song.

At 5, he said lets go for tiffin...
its just 5 minutes away. So I joined Rahman, Mehboob and Govind Nihlani in the
car. Rahman was driving. We went on and on for close to an hour, for the place
which was supposed to be just 5 minutes away! Rahman said "the place is
just 5 minutes away, the roads seem to have changed!" Well, that guy
thinks only about music! Thats what makes him unique.

I think he has made a huge difference
to film music. He has introduced a new sound that has caused a revolution. I'm
his fan."

song were not developed. Finally the 11the time, he sang the complete
song in bits and pieces and didnt know wehre the Mangal Mangal part

I would also say good words about Tajmahal.

Its music as well as its BGM merges so well with the era and 
mood of the film.

In our long discussions after MangalPandey, some members had 
commented that Naushad gave the music for then current 
times, and not for period, but, here, in tajmahal, he still 
gives the similar music that you guys had attributed as 1960 
music and not a period music.

That is the inconsistency with ARR's music that it does not 
gel with the era of the film. ARR always gives current 
music. His music was not 1947-ish in Krishna or Earth, nor 
1857-ish in mangal pandey, so on. It is like R D Berman's 
1942 A Love Story music was current music of 1990s and was 
not 1942-ish.

At that time, I had no recent period films to cite as 
example, but now here is Tajmahal which does not have 
2005-ish music at all.

Further, Naushad has even used the voices that ARR uses, 
especially Hariharan, even then he could get a feel of that 
period, that our man didn't (I wouldn't say, he couldn't).

Apart from the cassette/ CD, the BGM at the meenaa baazaar 
scene in the film is a joy to listen to. So different, so 
genuinely persian. So 1600-ish.

Thus, I repeat my that line that ARR never really gave a 
period music in his period films.

Shekar, You're sure starting a controversy here - I personally rate Iruvar as one of ARR's classics, right up there with Dil Se, Roja, Kannathil, Alaipauthey, Thiruda Thiruda, Bombay and Sangamam. Another classic album is Indira, which was dubbed in Hindi as "Priyanka",. which I'm sure none of you must be having - kab aay kab gaya pataa hi nahi chala. But guys, Indira in Tamil is a real masterpiece, esp. the song Nila Kaigirathu. Apart from that "Karuthamma" has real good music by ARR. His old films include Vandi Cholai Chinnarasu, Super Police, Kizhakku Cheemayile,Pudiya Mannargal, Uzhavan, which have OK music. Yuva and AE were released simultaneously..one wasnt the remake of

[arr] Two Songs Missing in CDs needed please

I need two songs please-  1. One is Snehithane was twice in the audio cassette but not in audio-cd. my friend said the two songs of snehithane in cassette are ss with shrinivas one and the other ss with ustad sultan khan. so i don't have the 2nd one which is ss with sultan khan. please upload if anyone has both the snehithaneys or mainly the missing ss with sultan khan.  2. Second one is from Minsara Kanavu, the sad song of Vennilavae Vennilavae Ennai Pol Theyaathae. I could not get this anywhere but this song is listed in arr's site and i saw it sometime back. as it is not with both cd & cassette, if anyone has this sad version, please upload. and also let me know to my email separately.   thanx, cheers, wishes raam

hi man,the "tujh bin paglili purbai" is def a mesmerising 1 indeed..the 
piano piece...,if u realise,in sneghidene (5:17 - 5:26),the way sadhana 
sung "ithe alathum,alathu" ithe adaipe adaipeee" and a weird sound 
acompanaying it,sorry i dunno what instrument it is...  but that 
was 1 of the most memerising thing can happen in a song,i noticed that 
she didint repeat that magic in the hindi version...overall sneghidene 
is 1 of ARR's best.Its my alltime fav from ARR!

It has come as a pleasant surprise to me that many were similarly
searching for the albums I am looking for. I thought that only I was
the fellow who could not buy CD's when these albums released as I did
not have money nor a player to buy CD's those days (I was a student then).

I am planning a Saturday weekend (this or next) search spree across
entire Chennai to find these CD's.

It is really unfortunate that this shows the state of Indian Music
Industry. When HMV lost all their old Original Master tapes of 50
years , I thought this scant regard was due to the times they were
operating in, though I could not belive how careless they were to
classics of mohd rafi, kishore etc.

Now in this day and this age, we are unable to get reissues of Big
Hits from one of the biggests MD's of today. One end they fight
against piracy , and in the other end they do this.

I hope Since ARR has openned a new state of art studios,would hope he
would retain the master tapes himself instead and carefully manage his
back catalogue. Maybe if some body realises that Bose Music is infact
good 5 years later, if the current scenario prevails he would not be
able to get it.

background music were super.Honestly, I like all of his songs and
