Rahman, is likely to compose a part of the track for an unusual international film project being planned to coincide with the 250th birth anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The brainchild of Salzburg-based Austrian music composer and violinmaker Winrich Sturies, the film has been in the works for over six months. It will roll very soon, says Sturies. The release of the film is planned for mid 2006. Mozart was born in Salzburg in January 1756. The Indian partner in the film venture, Sanjay Kaushik of the Paramount group of companies, says the details are all in place. The script is ready, talks are on with Rahman and the process of casting will be completed before we set a firm date for the shoot to begin. The film, asserts Kaushik, will be a full-fledged international production that will have substantial Indian participation. The link between the West and India will be organic and natural, not forced as is usually the case with such film projects. Sturies has lined up a series of concerts all around Europe under the rubric Project Planet-Mozart. The film, scripted by Sturies himself, is an extension of that celebration of the work of one of the finest music composers the world has ever known. How did India come into the picture? One of the key characters in the proposed film is an Indian, reveals Sturies. The storyline is set in two eras - Mozart's own and that of a fictional 17-year-old new millennium boy, Nicholas. The two men meet and play together. A key subplot in the film has Nicholas falling in love with an Indian girl and travelling to this part of the world. Sturies is looking to underscore the universality and continuity of music through his unusual narrative. Music is one mode of human expression that can travel across time and space without any hindrance, says the Austrian. Sturies is an admirer of India's approach to music. When Ravi Shankar played with Yehudi Menuhin, the god of the violin, nearly 40 years ago, the West saw for the first time that music is not just performance, it is worship. It is something that comes from deep within. Ravi Shankar taught us that music is composed and performed with the heart and not with mere instruments, he says. Sturies, who attended the 36th International Film Festival in Goa for a few days before setting out to explore other parts of the country, is impressed with what he has seen so far. wow!!:) this really is something dreamy, inspite of gopal's warnings to not get all excited. We should do something really different and try out what has not been ever done before! Having said that, here are ideas that Im sure have been tried before, and many times:) : - Premier theatres (multiplexes) can be selected for publicity through movie beginning spots (trailers) --- a prelude to ARR. - Radio jingles advertising his music. - Short movies, documentary kinds about his music, musical history, future, scope, influences, well that kind of thing, his interviews. I would love to buy something like that! - A website with his complete musical reportaire, giving the option to select music and create our own album and buy it. i think hmv has a feature like that. - cassettes with booklets offering more information than just lyrics and summary of all people involved. u know, each cassette/cd can be used to advertise more cassettes/cds. i remember seeing a poll created by you asking what we would do if we meet rahmanji:) it must have been an emotional moment, meeting him whom you have admired for so long!! my brother, bhabhi and i had bumped into him in a hotel in mumbai (ganesh chaturthi day:) ), and my brother had slickly touched his feet and glibly spoke to him, while i was busy shedding tears, awed by being in his presence:) it WAS a dream come true, (though very short) and i felt this undercurrent of ecstacy, sort of like floating in the air, for quite some time! He never once showed that he was bothered by our coming there during his busy time. He smiled, joked with us, asked us caring questions. He was so relaxed, we felt like we've known him for some time. So gracious and welcoming, despite going to a studio, he made us feel as if we came to his home and even offered us something to eat, despite not having many options for food at the studio. Just speechless to describe what a beautiful person he is, pure in heart and soul, and as you all know, it shows through his music. I was lucky enough to have Rahman read a long letter I had written that was given to him by this close associate and my friend the day before. In that letter, I poured my heart out as far as what his music means to me and the many ways I appreciate his music and how he has impacted my life. He took the time to read it and I was so grateful. I wish he could read what you all would like to say to him too. I learned that he does read our messages on this group and feels grateful. My fellow fans, I had you all in mind when I was meeting with Rahman and I so dearly wish each and every one of you can have an opportunity like I did. You are all equally as deservng as me to have the kind of experience that I had. I am so proud to be a Rahman fan and to be among the good company of you all as part of this special group. Hi Fanz, In another post, I wrote that GODFATHER poster was visible in one of the shops off Ritchie Street, Chennai. It is scheduled to release sometime in DECEMBER and this news is 99.9% confirmed. As for RAWAT'S inquiry, I managed to find out this link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449800/ I now distinctly remeber that the wordings of the director matched that of another old project called: ADA. Its no surprise 'coz ADA was a project to be done by A R Rahman. Maybe GOPS can help here..!? Replying to this current post, these are some more snippets... 1. Rahman refused Kamasutra. Okay, lets make it a trivia. Anyone knows the reason for the refusal?? 2. Rahman was supposed to do ASHOKA and gave some (snatches of) tunes, but it shifted to Anu Malik. Similar thing happened to FIZA. 3. Rahman recorded for Govind Nihlani first, much before he did for RGV (Rangeela). But something happened and it did not come out. 4. Rahman was supposed to do: Tanzen and Baiju. Donno what happened. 5. Rahman did a small BGM for the Indian Navy (or is it Army?) celebration. If someone has the piece, please pass it on... 6. The Super-Star Flop, BABA had 2 unreleased songs. One is the BABA RAP, which we all know. The other is a song in praise of his mother witten by Vairamuthu. It didn't fit and was removed. 7. 4 tunes were recorded for the movie: MOTHERLAND, supposed to be directed by Subash Ghai. Might never happen. His earlier movie TAAL has a song: KYA DEKH RAHI HO TUM...MERI AANKHON MEIN, which I think was NOT a part of the CD. Please confirm...it's a beautiful piece which finally merges with the opening chorus of: TAAL SE TAAL MILA. And one more info...The KANCHIPURAM WEAVER dream project, if I remember correctly, was supposed to be by PRIYADARSHAN and NOT by Rajiv Menon as mentioned...please confirm. Thanks for reading. hello frnds we know that yash chopra, karan johar aditya chopra etc are gr8 film makers who have 100% sucess rate ... on the other hand is AR RAHAMAN who almost has 99.9% of his music making a chart topper .. then why dont these people join hands for a project as this would suerly be a deadly combo of a gr8 film and the best music... yash chopra always signs jatin lalit, sandesh sandiyal or any other MD for his film where as karan johar has taken SEL(who are nxt best after RAHMAN) for his film but they should also work with ARR b,coz he can literary lift the film with his music.. if anyone who knows yash chopra or karan johar or anyone form the yashraj camp then pls request them to work with the greatest MD of all times AR RAHMAN bye frnds Yahoo!
