and Talk with Siddharth
!!!
Dark was the night and anticipation chilled the air, The jam packed amphi wanted all the truths laid out bare,
This was the night to be,
A star- in the making, the Infy crowd wanted to see, A false start later, he was there,
Whilst guys 'n gals alike continued to stare.
Ladies and Gentlemen please welcome – Siddarth, the director turned actor, who has captured many a heart and apparently (going by the screaming welcome at HYD DC) lots of them in Infosys too.
After a false call (probably Siddarth wanted his message to linger with us over the weekend), Siddarth finally appeared on stage amidst a renewed cheering (screaming included!) and tremendous applause.
Beginning his speech with a powerful (modified) dialogue from his latest movie "Rang De Basanti" (I'm Karan Singhania… me and my friends made this film (in Hindi)) Siddarth talked about the movie and dedicated it to the fighter pilots of the Indian Air Force, killed due to failure of aircraft (Mostly MiGs) during regular sorties.
Sending out a strong message to the audience Siddarth was the cynosure of all ears (eyes too, of course
J ), as he delivered the rationale behind the film. An alumni from SP Jain management institute and winner of the CNBC manager of the year award while pursuing his studies there, Siddarth had the audience hanging on to his every word as he spoke about the making of Rang de Basanti.
Preferring to take his questions (a select few from the thousand odd received) standing up, Siddarth was spot on with his answers from the word go. He was all praise for the director, Rakesh Mehra and a host of others with whom he had worked, including the likes of Aamir Khan, Mani Ratnam and so on.
A few excerpts:
How did Rang de Basanti (RDB) happen?
Siddarth: Films like RDB don't get made, they just HAPPEN.
Initially I refused Karan Singhania's part, but on reading the script was okay with it. Finally though, I was really glad I had taken it up.
How did it feel to work with the crew of RDB?
Siddarth: RDB unit was a very close knit one. With Aamir Khan, and Rakesh Mehra, around, one may feel diminutive or timid, but we all pitched in with our suggestions and ideas to improve it.
Are you going back to directing after this or will you continue as an actor?
Siddarth: Actually the directing bug was already in me while at S P Jain.
Mr. Mani Ratnam signed me as his assistant for the Tamil movie Kannathil Muthamittal and some time later Director Shankar spotted the actor in me and signed me up for Boys. Then came Mani Ratnam's Ayutha Ezhuthu (Yuva in Hindi), where once again he played an actor in the Tamil version. Post Ayutha Ezhuthu was Nuvvostanante Nenodanta in Telugu (my smash Hit). I'm still focused on direction, though it may take a while to happen.
Siddarth said that the passion for directing films still existed in him and recently he had penned Chukallo Chandrudu in Telugu. He said he aspires to make it big as a director some day.
How was it to work with Mani Ratnam?
Siddarth: "Go get what you want", was the lesson I learnt from him. There's absolutely no spoon feeding involved. As Mani Ratnam said "Do everything with your heart." Stand for what you believe in and make your own way towards it.
If not an actor, would you be a software engineer?
Siddarth (a little amused, recalls an incident in the near past): Recently I had been to IIT (the movie was screened there too!) and while leaving I told my Mom "Finally after 27 years I get to step into the IITs"! Marketing and management are a yes but the technical side is a sure NO.
What kind of a person are you?
Siddarth (Praising Rakeysh Mehra): I'm by nature a very arrogant type.
And my one motto is to remain hell bent or directing or go down trying. I don't want to be an apathetic kind of person. I'm seeing the surrounding area around me and it's… really great… I can see the amount of effort put into all this (
drawing huge cheers here from the crowd!!!) This is what I identify with-great effort and hard work.
With Tamil fans rooting for you how long will you continue to concentrate on Telugu movies alone?
Siddarth: After 'Boys' I didn't have a good time in Tamil cinema and Telugu films happened to come along. So I stuck to it. And mind you Telugu film industry is too huge and equally good too.
What influences you most?
Siddarth: Bhagat Singh was a great influence in my life. I admired their courage and their commitment at such a young age. And as always, Rakesh Mehra is a person who has impacted me a great deal.

How much i cud say abt the live showon a fully
rainy day...people waiting for a special treat

I am new to this group, anyway i wud like to share my
experiences with u all. i love talkin abt this to
anyone i see. if i am not gonna tell abt this, then am
doin injustice to myself. 

I was in chennai then by that time. We , friends.
around 10 went to bangalore especialy for this event
and initialy we were disappointed cos of the rain.
Later the guru came around 7 to tell everyone that
theres gonna b somethin special for bangalore people.

The show started around 815 and went upto 1230, in the
place, where the shows are supposed to get over by 10
as per law. I cud see people screamin whenever ARR
comes to sing on the background expecialy for the
kannalane in bombay and gum guma from yuva. Cudnt
express in words how everyone felt when he sang his
own song from laagan. I wud rather say ppl are unlucky
if they havent made up to this event ,if they had in
bagalore or in chennai.

I am rite now looking forward for the show in USA.
have started thinkin rite from now. thats suppose to
happen in june-july i think.

I wud like to alert everyone that LIVE performance of
rahman is something very special, that too if u r arr
fan.

hi all fans,, mostly i observed that rahman work always based on raagas and indian classical styles with western touch. but sometime rahman ji really stuck listeners in thoughts. i found many rahman ji songs in purely classical based with carnatic beats and _expression_. i really love those songs very much. i will deffinitly mession some songs who are great work by rahman ji in classical with pure carnatic beats and expressions. 1.i will boldly say that if i rate this kind of songs i will deffintly rate on one spot the hounting track mazhayi thingal from(sangamam)what i say abt this song,it makes me mad whenever i listen it,i have performed many time classical dance on this song in my university and other functions,people really admire that song very much more than my dance even they dont know abt its language. no doubt its a phenomenal

Confusion clearedIndiaGlitz [Thursday, March 02, 2006] The confusion over God Father or Tirupathi, as to which of the films will be released first has been sorted out amicably between the producers. The news is that after the issue thrashed between the producers (NIC Arts Chakravarthy and AVM Saravanan) it has been decided that Tirupathi will
make it first. There is an industry ruling that an actors films must have at least 45-day gap between their release. As of now, it has been decided that the audio of Tirupathi will be relased on March 15 and the film itself by April 14 or anytime before. So that means, God Father, which is already delayed, will be released in June.

Amitabh to act in Chandramukhi remakeIndiaGlitz [Thursday, March 02, 2006] It is good news that Amitabh Bachchan is back to work after a long time gap. What was welcoming was the fact that he started with a song recording and with the Filmfare Awards. The most recent development in the story is his association down south. Bachchan has verbally agreed to do the Hindi remake of the Rajinikanth blockbuster Chandramukhi. Telegu filmmaker V.N. Aditya will direct
it. KS Rama Rao and Sa Re Ga Ma will produce it. The film was first made in Malayalam in 1994, then in Kannada and now in Hindi. The film set the cash registers ringing with a business of a whopping 100 crores. The producers and the director have immense faith in the script and story and that Amitji would do absolute justice to his lead character. Minor changes have been made to make the film look and sound contemporary. Amitji comes from New York to India in Rajasthan to get the lead actress of the film cured. The actress is yet to be finalized. The producers plan to rope in AR Rahman for the music as it plays a vital role in the film. The film should ideally go on floors by the end of the year. Sivaji
audio on March 10th? AVM Saravanan clarifies!!

 

It was a misleading
report carried by a popular Tamil daily today. Fans were excited to read that
Superstar would be releasing Sivaji audio on March 10 and that he would attend
the function to be held at the AVM Auditorium at Saligramam. Producer AVM
Saravanan has clarified that only Tirupathi audio would be released on March 10
and the Superstar has agreed to be the chief guest of the function. Rajini had
requested that no political personalities should be invited and only cinema
dignitaries should be allowed. Saravanan has agreed to the request.

`Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu' is 
taking place on March 5th. The Gautham-Harris
Jayaraj combination 
has given super music hits in `Minnale' and `Kaaka
Kaaka,' so when 
Kamal joins the team, the expectations are also
naturally high. 
The `Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu' audio release function
is expected to be 
on a grand scale. 


For direct reports and colorful pictures, one has
to wait till 5th!

Hi guys & gals  I cannot imagine tamil music without ARR. He is the man who made me listen to tamil movie music right from Roja. I am really fascinated by every bit of his work.  Recently I ve been humming Vellai Pookal song from Kannathil Muthamittal. I searched so much on the net to get the lyrics but i could not find it. kamma kari song is the one i am gonna skip.  

not because the song is bad or anything, i have not got myself
acquinted with that type of music.  i have heard and seen a few kuthu
songs in tamil and for me they are degradation of good music. It is
neither folk, nor contemporary.. i just can't understand the use of
that song.. may be to give a lively feeling, but i feel it is not my
kind of music.

But at least in the kamma kari song, arr has given a more civilised
version using better beats and sounds..

Theeyil vizhuntha is certainly a masterpiece!!  

Now this is not a yet another cacophony about disappointment.  but
yes, few tracks in GF has surely did disappoint me.  

well, since i got a gem like "theeyil vizhuntha" from it, the degree
of my disappointment from other tracks can be justified or rather
compensated.

But we gotta think about it from ARR 's point of few as well, 

He has to cater to all fans.. not just those who love melody.. so that
might be the reason for that kuthu song.

good to see positive reviews coming in for godfatheroh yes v r all 
so very happy for ar rahman!!

thr was a very elaborate review on the same n it was a very 
intellectual review...so elaborate n just right in short..godfather 
is a must-buy album for everybody..it sure does have some great music...
its time v got optimistic n look atthe brighter side of things rather 
than trying to find faults..

rahman is scheduled to perform in kuwait on april.7..posters r out n so 
r the tktsbut as everywhere else..thr will be a mad rush for the 
tkts only as the day get closer..

lets hpe 'water' gets released real soon in india...how v r being 
deprived right guyz?! this is so unfair...imagine how rahman must be 
feeling coz hes got hi expectaions from the album n is yet to be 
released in india..
