Hello ,

I am usually a silent reader in this group , but for the first time i
decided to send out a review of the songs of guru in the group. enough of
the intro , so let me start with the summary of the album.


Summary:

A.R.Rahman, the man has grown from a vibrant young musical genius in Roja to
a musical god in Guru. The songs in my perspective are some of the best ARR
has ever composed, why ??, it is truly original for starters(no mix or hint
of prev tunes). The usage of a wide variety of instruments is growing to a
considerable extent in Rahman's tunes, hope he keeps introducing more
groundbreaking tunes and instruments not used in repetitive Indian film
music.

Song 1-

Jage Hain -  I personally was looking forward to hear this song. It starts
of with a very soft but tuned recite of the lyrics by Chitra with some
orchestra violin and strong base cello in the background. ARR's voice slowly
blends in with the cello , i should say the first recite of the lyrics by
ARR is as soft as one can get after which he sings the same lyrics in a high
pitch ,  the madras chorus group pitches in with thier recitation. Overall
for me this is the highlight of the album, it sets the right tone for the
movie and a very inspiring usage of the orchestra skills.

Song 2-

Tere Bina - The humming of :Dhum dara Dhum Dara" was already in our lips
even before the album came out. The music has got some wonderful lyrics and
gets you calm after the riveting Jage Hain song. Special mention to
Chinmayee , my first impression when i heard her peice in this song was "
Wow, what a voice to have". This is the first time i heard her and trust me
her voice has really worked wonders with ARR's for this song. Another
special mention is that ARR has dedicated this song to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
- in the album cover.

Song 3-

Ek Harirathey - A top class blend of Ghazal. The catchy

" Dham Dara DHam Dara" is once again thrown into this song for the kicks of
it. . Hariharan's voice and pitch sounds like magic. Special mention about
Prasad on the tabla , really good.

Song 4

Ek Lo Ek Muft-  Well, let me be frank about this song, i think has not done
justice to the amount of hype it created. Having said that, let me keep me
mind that the director of this film is a guy capable of projecting a donkey
like a horse on the big screen, the visuals might justify this song. Let us
wait and see.

Song 5

Bazi Laga-   A short description of this song

Kind of fast paced, good tune, I guess having Mallika Sherawat dance for
this would justify the songs pace and tune. But a good song to listen to it
.


Song 6

Barso Re-  A great rendition of flute to start of with . Since we know that
this is a song picturized on Aishwarya in rain , the beat might just give
your foot a little exercise with the foot tapping you would do while
listening to this.

Well there you have it, my humble on this album. Before i stop let me tell
you my review is only my humble opinion . I have not hyped the songs even to
a little extent.

Jaage Hain - A small song...Rahman and Chitra do a very good
jobthis one but...will require repeted hearing...before u start
liking it...this song could bring tearsafter viewing the
picturisation of the song...

On the whole Guru is an awesome album from RahmanMani Ratnam and
ARRhave always given us the best...and they havent disappointed
us at allGuru will stay for a very long timeas earlier...one
member told...it's nothing...like Dil Se...but this one has identity
of its ownyeah thats for sureand guys...get the original
CDand listen to the brilliance of our musical GURU.

guys ...i jst listened to GURU songs.amazing..rahman has done it again..."aye 
hairathi" is just mindblowing..
so is tere bina..though both songs has tht "dham dhara" common to it..but 
'mazin.and abt barso re..its a bit sophysticated..but it 'll grow on u..and the 
ek lo ek muft song by bappi lahiri is a situation based song..its not a  
pleaser..but genuis composition..and baazi laga is a typical early 90s type 
song,which i really liked..
jaahe hein sung by rahman and chitra with the chennai choral group is 
awesome..breath taking orchestraion,feels like listening to a philharmonic 
orchestra.
anyway i would say "aye hairathen" is the pick of the album...

"Bombay Dreams," which had three separate productions - and "Lord of the
Rings," which opened in Toronto this March and will open in London in
September of 2007. The 39-year-old composer feels his future lies not in
fusion, but in the respectful compartmentalization of separate styles.

Upcoming projects include a video set to Rahman's "Pray for me,
brother," a song he wrote and sung for the UN's Millennium Campaign:
Voices Against Poverty. "We have to push our governments to do what they
have to do for us," he says in a promotional video for the campaign. But
there are no immediate plans for a U.S. tour. "The tour we'd planned to
have is not going to happen. There are so many films we have to finish."

Excerpts from a recent freewheeling interview in Los Angeles follow:

Q: You've been trained in Western music and Indian. In your mind, is it
a challenge to switch back and forth?

A: In the beginning, when I did compositions such as "Roja," I spent a
huge amount of time trying to focus on one genre. People used to
complain, 'Go to Rahman and he's going to take ages to do your music.'
But all those things used to help me create a style. Ten years later,
some of those songs are considered "textbook" songs today, which people
want me to go back to over and over. "Bombay Dreams" was a huge shift
again. I can't say that I'm comfortable yet, but I do have a little bit
of focus and now I can compartmentalize it.

Ek Lo Ek Muft - Situational songit's a sort of fun songthat 
one will start liking after watching the picturisation of the song...

Mayya - Awesome tracka hindi song with an Arabic...touchthe 
music is too goodand the singer Maryem Toler has done a great 
job...this songis the one that is picturised on Mallika 
Sherawat...

Ay Hairathe - the song starts with Rahman singing Dham Dhara Dham 
Dhar chashm chashm...u really get goosebumps...when he sings...this 
part...and then when that stanza is over...Hariharan takes 
over...with a sfot melodybeautiful track...my favourite after 
Tere Bina and Barso Re

Baazi Laga - A fast track...good musicI liked this one on first 
hearingI have to hear it more to comment on it

Jaage Hain - A small song...Rahman and Chitra do a very good 
jobthis one but...will require repeted hearing...before u start 
liking it...this song could bring tearsafter viewing the 
picturisation of the song...

On the whole Guru is an awesome album from RahmanMani Ratnam and 
ARRhave always given us the best...and they havent disappointed 
us at allGuru will stay for a very long timeas earlier...one 
member told...it's nothing...like Dil Se...but this one has identity 
of its ownyeah thats for sureand guys...get the original 
CDand listen to the brilliance of our musical GURU.

for the delay of movie release. or if not immediate with the original rlease 
sometime later dubbd versions may be rleasd. then movie be called latchiyam ? 
or savaal-2 like dhoom-2 ? i cld understand only traces of hindi studied in 
primary school. but without knowing much of the lang i cld enjoy any kind of

Hi Hakkeem,

I don't agree with u . I loved the "Guru" trailer & the music is excellent. Of 
course even I want ARR to compose for an album, but thats not because he has 
performed below my expectations , but because he has been able to deliver more 
with every movie of his.

If u have any problem with ARR's music, it is my sincere request on behalf of 
all ARR fans not to post it in our group, coz this is an ARR fan group & not an 
ARR critics group.

Hey Hakkeem. I mean no offense to anybody but the songs in Guru, they 
aren't bad you know. I too once felt like you after but I really 
think the songs in Guru have potential. I even like Maiyya Maiyya 
eventhough I cant understand the lyrics. Maybe it's because you 
havent heard them that much yet? Maybe Rahman isn't as good as last 
time but he's still good right? I bet when you listen to the full 
songs, you'll begin to like them!

with Hakeem...does not mean that i am sayin stuff against ARR...we r
his fans too..just an opinion..Hakeem has a point here coz if ARR

dear fans
  younger generation always expect rdb or boys kinda songs. n paatshala kiind 
cannot fit into guru as its abt a businessman who wins life. when it spks of a 
period it has to spk some music related to that era to make pple feel like 
everyone existing only in that period now when u sit inside a theatre. iruvar 
songs & bgm score showcased m.g.r.'s era nicely using the musical era of mds 
k.v.mahadevan & msv techniqs. that way guru has to show case pre & post 
independence era without distracting the situation much. i think we forget the 
result of the songs r from many sittings btween the md & dir. to finalise at a 
stage to sail with the mood of the screenplay & presentation.

Iruvar, I suppose, received lot of criticism when it got released 
more than 10 yrs back. But now its a classic! Classics are the ones 
which stand test of time. GURU hasn't even released, so give it 
time.

Its sad. Piracy is the same as stealing. Guru's soundtrack is on every possible 
site already for download. 10's of thousands of people are using these 
blatantly illegal services and yet many more poeple are buying the Cd's and 
sharing them online.

Knowing ARR, I know that this really makes him feel bad deep inside because so 
much work goes behind the music he creates and then artists dont get what they 
deserve. Is it that difficult to pay £5 or some Rs. 150 for a good cd? Sad man.

I live in the UK, while the soundtrack is out onlineshamelessly 
being downloaded all over, I much rather wait for the real cd, no matter how 
hard to get because that way I know I am not stealing from someone I love and 
contributing to his efforts. For those who think 
differently...atleast in this group...please ask yourself 
if this is fair? An average album gets a minimum of 45,000 downloads on one 
single siteI hope that none of that 45,000 is from ARRAHMANFANS, cause 
that would be a right ol shame.

I do something whenever an arr album is available on the net, I make up false 
aliases and bombard these sites, especially on pages with ARR's 
music..where I leave messages likeshame on you..get the cd, 
stop stealing and encourage your idolsI hope all of 
you.(10,000 is not a silly number) try and pitch in with you efforts, 
even though it seems that it doesnt help, let me tell you one 
thing..it does!

Please guys. Just keep AR's efforts in perspective when doing such acts.
