[arr] Fellow fan Aravind on Aahaa 91.9 FM!

2007-09-16 Thread Amith Chandhran
http://arrahmaniac.blogspot.com/

Friday, September 14, 2007 Was on air Still flying!! :) 12 September
2007 it was!! From 6-8 pm, I was on air on Aaha 91.9 FM on the show Rahmania.
A.R.R's sister Raihanah interviewed me on the show!! More than 24 hours
past, and my excitement is still to go down!!

More about it in the next post!!

Sunday, September 16, 2007 Rahmania - On AAHA FM Every Wednesday is 'fans
day' on Rahmania (6-8 pm weekdays), the Radio show dedicated to
A.R.Rahmanon Aahaa FM (
91.9 FM - Chennai). And last Wednesday I was interviewed on the show!!

On Tuesday night, I switched off the radio at 8:00 pm after listening
toRahmania.
And my phone starts calling me with my Hai Rama BGM ringtone. I pick up the
phone and I'm in for a total surprise. Raihanah ma'am was on the line, and
she asked me if I could come to the studio the next day!!! Oh My God!!!
It was a real surprise! She needn't have spoken to me... She could have
asked one of the sound engineers to speak to me... but no, such is her
simplicity!

I was asked to come to the studio at 4:00 pm sharp. I was there by 3:30
itself, and was received by Mr. Radhan who is the sound-engineer for the
show and it turned out that he was a hardcore Rahmaniac too!

Raihanah came at 4 pm sharp! After exchange of pleasantries and clicking a
few snaps, we set down to decide on what we would talk about. I had prepared
some 4 pages of stuff to talk, neatly printed out and thus surprising
Raihanah, who, with her classic laugh, remarked "Ivlo prepared-aa
vandhirukkaru... Innikku enakku velai-ye illai nu nenaikkaren... Naan
late-aa've vandhirukkalaam!" ("He's come so prepared, I have nothing to
do I could have walked in late today!!!")

So, I was just chatting with her till the show started. Rahman's simplicity
is well known to everyone. I could find the same trait in his sister too.
She was so down-to-earth talking to and everyone chatting so freely!

Once inside the studio, she made me feel so comfortable as this was the
first time I was gonna be on Air. I was explained the process, the way the
team functioned for the show, etc. The first 'link' was well planned, in
terms of what we would say and what question would be asked etc. But, the
rest of the show was more or less ad hoc!!

I was kinda hesitant to ask if they would air the duet version of Kannathil
Muthamittal song that I made. When I told Raihanah about this, she asked me
if it was a remix. I assured her it was not, and told her I would never
tamper with ARR's music. When Raihanah listened to it, she immediately
agreed to use it in the show, and I finally dedicated that song, during the
show, to A.R.Rahman himself (Thanks to the Dryad for reminding me to
dedicate it to him!!)

This will always be one of my most unforgettable moments ever!

[arr] Sujatha about ARR on RAHMANIA Radio show

2007-09-16 Thread Aravind AM
Hi all,

Sorry, I have been busy, and that's reason for the delay in writing this mail!!

Sujatha:
"It was 1990 or 1991 i think I had already sung a few songs at that time in
Malayalam movies. I got a call from one of my friends late in the night and he
said there was a recording for an ad jingle, and wanted me to come over at 2
am I was hesitant as I was already a movie playback singer, and didnt know
much about the jingle industry But this friend forced me saying "the music
director is a boy named Dileep. He is amazing... U are really missing something
if u dont want to sing for him... Please come over". I reluctantly went there
to see a "boy" sitting in front of the consoles and his keyboard. He played me
the tune and it was outstanding. It was an ad for a talcum powder.I jus loved
singing that one. My husband heard it and he was spell bound too... Thank God,
I accepted to sing that one!"

About singing for Roja:
"We had just recorded Pudhu Vellai Mazhai, and surprisingly, it was during the
day!!
And, Rahman was done for the day. Rahman invited me and my husband for a movie.
We agreed... It was the last screening for the movie "Robinhood" and he didnt
want to miss it... Tickets were sold out, except for the first row!!! The three
of us were sitting there on the first row, so close to the screen and watching
the movie! I was straining my eyes, and bending backwards to catch the movie
because we were so close to the screen. Then, I looked at Rahman He wasnt
straining his eyes.. he was concentrating on the background score, with his
eyes closed!! Apparently, all he was interested in was the music!!

Just then, my husband whispered into my ear 'we are so lucky. This guy is going
to become one of the best music directors, and we would be one of those lucky
people to have watched a movie with him!'"

"Singer Shrinivas was my fan and used to call me and wish me and talk about my
songs. I hadnt known him personally then, and he hadnt entered the industry at
that time! When Roja released, he called me up and said Pudhu Vellai Mazhai was
brilliant And, he was so excited about the new music director and asked me
to tell him all about ARR! He had remarked that this person is going to be the
next big sensation in music, and that he wanted to meet him... He hadnt even
dreamt that he would one day sing for ARR!!!"

[arr] Complicated song with 3-4 raagas in Yuvraaj: Madhushree

2007-09-16 Thread Aravind AM
Hi all,

On Friday, the celebrity on Rahmania Radio show was Madhushree...

Madhushree:
"The most complicated song I have ever sung, is the song that we recently
recorded for the Subhash Ghai movie. Rahman ji has used some 3-4 raagas and it
is so amazing!!"

"I thank ARR. If it wasnt for him, I would still be in South America, teaching
music and my voice wouldnt have reached all over the world as it has today!!"

"The way very different and unique sounding humming in Mayiliragae was recorded
is very interesting. He gave me the tune and asked me to improvise and sing the
humming in whatever way I wanted. I hummed the same tune in many different ways
and style, but he kept saying, 'No.. i want something different'
Finally, I was slightly fed up... and said 'if u want very different humming
then i have to do only this' and mimicked the tune in childish manner... I did
that for fun!! But that was the one he liked and said that was awesome and used
it for the song!!"

[arr] Re: Arr Singers

2007-09-16 Thread Ricky
Hi,

I understand your preferance for south indian singers singing songs
for South Indian movies. However a few points:

a) A.R.Rahman - hardly needs to be told whom to select. He has proven
time and time again that he knows how to choose singers who fit songs
so well.

b) I personally hate the regionalization when it comes to music.
Fortunately ARR thinks global and does not fall into the
regionalization trap. Singers should always be chosen based on who
suits the song, the on-screen actor, and the moment well.

c) Regarding pronounciation, these days its quite popular to have
dialect teachers who ensure that the right pronounciation comes
across. A better suggestion would be utilize these teachers more often.

d) How would one feel if Hariharan didn't sing 'Nahin samne tu' from
Taal since he's from South India? Or Sukhwinder didn't sing the
Telgu-folk based 'Chinama chilkama' from Meenaxi since he's from North
India? Or even Rahman not singing 'Yeh jo des hai tera' from Swades
since he is from South India!! The answer is lets not have south
India/North India. Its the language of music! We can have a Toronto
singer singing 'Mayya mayya' from Guru or relatively unknown singers
singing 'Khalbali' from RDB. Lets recognize the music, not the regions!

Thanks,
Ricky

first of all, why should you imagine India without ARR? also, its insane to

y not imagine some +ve things like ARR wining 10 national awards in 10

 - Johnny Gaddaar title track - it rocks (SEL)
 - Couple of tracks from Hey Baby - esp. Main Duniya Tu Hi Re - just
awesome (SEL) and Dholna
 - Ajab Si from Om Shanti Om - Great melody (Vishal Shekhar, who are
great fans of Rahman)
 - Dastaan E (Shaan song from Om Shanti Om)- Rich orchestration and
retro sound (70s).
 - Remix of Laga Chuneri Main Daag (original melody ) from movie
Laga.(Shantanu Moitra)and Hum To Aise Hain from same movie

I'm a fan of good music, not just Rahman. Hope there are other

thnx mohan. atlast u surprised with this rarity. i should not leave
without appreciating this. jus for info seems rajshri who had dd-surabi
vdeos are not allowing members to post them independently for copyrights issue
for its for some dollars & like ur stand, i also prefer to see chinmayee to win
filmfare award for munbe vaa in SOK.. when north indian mds could not
give more offers to south indian singers, why should these MDs again n again
call them when we have our own best talents. becuz of this our singers lose
awards & due credits. in the end only north indian singers take
awards/credits both on behalf of hindi & regionals. thats why a dig on
certain ARR singers nothing more when felt disappointed about these talents
who are not taken for consideration anyone could post details about
parsuram-one man army hindi songs & singers not the audio files but trax
titles & singers. thnx & bye.

*Remix song in ATM by A R Rahman *

These days people have started accommodating remixes and remakes either
songs or movies. The renowned earlier song VASANTHA MULLAI in POKKIRI was an
astounding hit. Following this Vijay can be seen rocking in ATM for PONMAGAL
VANTHAL from Nadigar Thilagam hit movie SORGAM. ATM has two heroines and the
lucky one to do this sequence goes to Shreya. ATM is getting ready for its
wraps with one single song to be shot. This film faced legal hurdles and the
producer Appachan settled this issue on the court directions. The film being
directed by by Dharani's associate Bharathan, who was the Dialogue writer
for Vijay's previous blockbuster movie Ghilli. This is the first film for
him as a director.

A.R.Rehaman is scoring the music for this film. This story of this film is
said to be lifted from the Hollywood flick IF.

best year in hindi??
