[arr] Ash steps in for Rahman
Ash steps in for Rahman By Behindwoods News Bureau. November 02, 2007 Ashutosh Gowariker's magnum opus Jodha Akbar is nearing completion and the post-production work is on in full swing. At this juncture, this Aishwarya-Hrithik-starrer has witnessed something only few films of the past have ever seen. That Rahman is scoring the music for this epic love story is no news [Jodha Akbar] but that Ashutosh has gone ahead and done the unthinkable - chopped one of Rahman's compositions for the movie is something that has sent shockwaves in the industry. Even good friend Rahman isn't pleased with this decision. The Qawwali number in question was shot lavishly in huge sets, erected just for this purpose. The director, however, felt that it was a tad bit too long to be a part of the movie and has decided to let the scissors do the work. Ash has stepped in for Rahman and has agreed to use this Qawwali for her next movie. Beauty saves the music. http://www.behindwoods.com/bollywood/hindi-movies-news/nov-07-01/02-11-0\ 7-rahman.html http://www.behindwoods.com/bollywood/hindi-movies-news/nov-07-01/02-11-\ 07-rahman.html
[arr] Did you know some more?
That in the days when audio CDs were imported into India at Rs. 600 each and cassettes were priced at Rs. 25, HMV launched a high-end cassette label line called 'Sheer Magic' with a premium positioning and made of jam-free rollers and fungus-resistant tape, priced at Rs. 100 a piece with Chor Chor being the first film title released on this label?
Re: [arr] Ash steps in for Rahman
Well two things incorrect in the article, 1. It says ARR wasn pleased. His interview says otherwise. It was a mutual decision taken 2. Not done due to time constraints cuz he felt the song didn fit the narration. Gomzy On 11/2/07, yasheer_ar2 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: *Ash steps in for Rahman* By Behindwoods News Bureau. That such was the frenzy in Bollywood over buying the rights of Humse Hai Muqabala, that perhaps for the first and only time ever, two labels, Time and Venus jointly released the music of the film. Time later sold out to TIPS which released the music under it's own label as well making it probably the only ARR film to release on three different labels legally (Paarathale Paravasam released on three labels - HMV, Challenge Music and Hit Musics - on the same day but the release was embroiled in litigation over who had the legal right which was finally resolved in favour of HMV).

That Rangeela and Humse Hai Muqabala are the only two ARR soundtracks to be remixed with Super Jhankaar Beats, a popular trend in Bollywood back in the early 90s.

Re: [arr] Did you know?
Dear Gopal, You made me to go back into time.. A surprise, sudden, amazing, nostalgic trip. Yes I know it all. I had that Rangeela Super Jhankaar Beats mix, but the moment I came to know that its not by AR, I gave it out to someone. Rangeela Hindi had 5 different inlays; 4 of them were on Time. I have 6 copies of Humse Hain Muqabala on Time / Venus / Tips. Time had two different inlays, and one inlay of Time and Venus is exactly same. I also have one copy of Time where Urvashi Urvashi is printed as Urvashi Vruashi. ;-) But Time and Venus had also joined for Mr. Romeo copyrights. Mr. Romeo has 3 diff inlays Time / Venus / Tips. Very recently, in 2005, Vande Mataram was imported by Music World for Rs 625/- It has different inlay than the Indian version. The Indian version shows the flag tricolors as it is, whereas the International version shows the tricolor upside down. I remember Khel Khiladi Ka cassette was priced at 25/- and the first ever Roja cassette without AR's name on its front, was priced at 29/-. The first ever 'costly' cassette for me was Duniya Dilwalon Ki. It came for 40/- I also remember green colored Chor Chor inlay on Sheer Magic series. Sheer Magic series was good and sounded rich too; maybe because it came for 100/- :-) But there was one more cassette that came for 100/- That was MTV mix. It had Musafir remixed version. Very rare to find in those days.. :-) I have pretty good Tamil cassettes collection, but I missed these small things.. The places where I spent my childhood were thousands KMs away from Tamil Nadu. It is so sad that we don't get these things now. Tiny things.. Still they make you feel life great. Thanks :-) -- On 11/2/07, Gopal Srinivasan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: That the front of the inlay card of the first batch of cassettes of Roja's dubbed version in Hindi, released by Magnasound, did not have ARR's name? ok, here it is.. credits.. Vij orkut community.. brief transcript: ARR watched the movie fully along with actor Vijay and director Bharathan. ARR said that it was a cheerful movie. [arr] Re: Did you know some more?
I have several Sheer Magic tapes. They claimed that they were digitally remastered, but only a few of them actually sounded good. The Malayalam album Ennum Madhuram sung by KJ Yesudas is really good. --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, Gopal Srinivasan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: That in the days when audio CDs were imported into India at Rs.
Re: [arr] Did you know?
Guys, u r making fellow Rahmaniacs envy on u ppl.. :D Nice to get to know these minute details.. And regarding Rahman's name not appearing in Roja I have something to share.. In an interview, singer Srinivas said, he was very much worried when his name was not credited for ooh la la song from minsara kanavu(2nd charanam is by Srinivas) and that Rahman consoled him by telling him the Roja incident.. On 11/2/07, Amith Chandhran [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Dear Gopal, You made me to go back into time.. Instead, it had Maniratnam's Roja (The Rose, in Hindi) - Includes Rukmani Rukmani by Baba Sehgal and Shweta ARR's name was relegated to the back cover. Subsequent batches carried ARR's name on front.

Re: [arr] Re: BTW
Gopal, Priyanka probably never released on Tips. I vaguely remember asking for it, to get a funny answer. They said, Wait for some years, everything will release and you'll get everything. Even R.D.Burman's rare collection is releasing only after he died. I'll confirm and will update on this.. -- On 11/2/07, Gopal Srinivasan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Priyanka on Time is what I would expect everyone to have since they originally released it. [arr] Rahmania Radio show - Singer Sriram on ARR (cont...)
Hi all, Part 2 of Sriram's interview was broadcast last friday. Raihanah also mentioned Gopal's name during this interview... Read on!! as always, excuse inaccuracies. Snippets from the show: Rahman often calls me if there are jathis or dhols to be sung in a song... I went there for Minsaara Kanna song. Rahman tried many different things before he settled on the final one! Hari ji was there and he was improvising a lot trying out whole lot of hindustani aalaps. Some portion of it is retained in the song, which is why u can hear Hari jis voice in some parts Raihana asked him about the ease with which he hits high pitch notes, and he replied Talking of voice range - Rahman and I have almost the same range Rahman's slightly higher - probably half note higher... I had sung sung Chill allavaa (Thathi aadudhey) from En Swasa Katrae. That was a very good experience. In the closing of one saranam, by mistake I landed on a much higher note than what was actually to be done. And that was higher than my usual range! Rahman asked me enna aachu... kural out-aa? (What happened? your voice is gone coz of that?)... But that higher note actually sounded nice and he retained it!!! When I sing this song in concerts, I usually sing it in a lower scale so that I can sing the closing properly! I had also sung the tamil version of Chaiyya Chaiyya. But, my name wasnt there on the CD and casette covers. Rahman had used Sukhwinder's voice along with mine. In some portions u can hear his voice and in most of the places, my voice. There were rumours that I was totally upset over this. I want to clarify - I have no regrets. It is great to be a part of the song. Rahman used both our voices because he knew that was the best for the song. It takes a genius to do it Raihanah: Do you remember the concert in IIT where we sang Chaiyya Chaiya, with lots of improvisations, as requested by Mr. Gopal Srinivasan? U were awesome in that! Sriram: Thanks! It was wonderful singing that song with u! Raihanah: U were too good, using Dhols, jathis and carnatic style improvisations!!! looking at all that, i thought to myself omg.. thats amazing much improvisation! Let me not compete with him!! Re: [arr] Rahmania Radio show - Singer Sriram on ARR (cont...)
Huh?!? Either she's mistaken me for someone else or she's using my name to refer to someone else. Most likely, it's the latter. It was during my visit to AM Studios to hand over our contribution to the foundation when Srini of Global Rhythms was showing videos of a GR performance to Raihana and me that he asked her to perform at the IIT show which was a week or two from then. She's probably referring to Srini. - Original Message From: Aravind AM [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: ARRFANS arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com Sent: Saturday, November 3, 2007 8:39:46 AM Subject: [arr] Rahmania Radio show - Singer Sriram on ARR (cont...) [arr] UJJAYINEE'S INTERVIEW - RAHMANIA SHOW
Dear Friends, With due regards to other friends, who wanted to post abt this Ujjayinee Interview in Rahmania Show in 91.9 FM yesterday. I thought I can do it, a I got a chance to hear the same yesterday, and this also kindles my memory power, and assess my retaining capacity. 1. Ujjayinee started off by saying that she was born in Tripura, and had started learning music from the age of 3. She basically started off asa RJ in Kolkata, and had also worked there. She got inspired to ARR's music, the moment she heard Roja songs in 1992. Her favourites include Choti Se Asha, Tu Hi Re, Dil Se Re, Vande Mataram and much more. She had earlier sung in the Tamil Film Attagasam ( Music composed by Bharadwaj ), and also for the title score in the same movie. In fact it was Bharadwaj who had taken pains in teaching her the tamil script. 2. She was very excited when ARR had called her up for the song recording in ATM. Nee MAryln Monroe and Valayapatti song. She was saying as to how ARR wanted the turnings, cheeky stuff in the song, and how he was motivating her to sing in such a higher octave. In fact, the starting bit of the song in Nee Maryln Monroe itself has been a sensation for her. She even hummed the initial bits, sang some lines in the song. 3. She had done some albums in Tamil under the expert guidance of Kadri Gopalnath and his son, when she had first come to Chennai. She had her own band, and had even participated in the Ooh La La concert, under the group Om. -- regards, Vithur A.R.RAHMAN - THE GOD OF MUSIC

Re: [arr] ARR happy with ATM picturization
This film is surely going to be a blockbuster and a milestone in Vijay's career. when any actor joins hands with our Guru, it is bound to be success. Its like a sloka in Bhagavad Geetha which says Where there is Krishna and where there is Arjuna, success would be obvious there. Whereever there is Rahman, and for that matter any actor, there is bound to be success. LONG LIVE ARR..
