Maybe they're hesitant to highlight Rahman too much, even though his
upcoming soundtracks deserve mention.

RE: [arr] [SemiARR??] RajKumar Santoshi on Ashoka and Ajay Devgan

2008-01-04 Thread Abdul Manaf
I think it will be true that ARR is doing the BGM of the songless movie ASHOKA.
But i wish that ARR was not to be a part of RAMAYAN or any other RKS projects.
In my opinion RKS is another SHEKHAR KAPUR. Look at what happened to LONDON
DREAMS which ARR already composed all tracks.

Subject: [arr] [SemiARR??] RajKumar Santoshi on Ashoka and Ajay Devgan

I hope ARR is doing this ??Also RKS talks about Ramyan!

http://www.rediff.com/movies/2008/jan/04raj.htm

You love working with him, don't you?

He is a trusted friend. And I feel that I will continue working with him for
many years. I never get tired of working with Ajay. He will be playing the lead
in Ashoka and then in the
Ramayan. Both will be made within two years. I am sure people will be astounded
how he will interpret the two compellingly fascinating characters. Ajay is one
of the few leading men in the industry today who will some day become a very
valued character actor.

What do you feel most appealing in him?

He has never been a chocolate face actor. Though he has received a lot of
praise for his performances and awards, I feel every time I work with him,
there is so much more talent in him that is waiting to be exploited. Ajay
surprises me every time we are doing a new film.

What kind of Ashoka would he make?

I am sure he will bring out well all the contradictions, weaknesses and
strengths in Ashoka. I love history and I read extensively about historical
people. I have been thinking of this film for many years, and Ajay was always
there in my mind as Ashoka.

Some filmmakers would have been tempted to cast 'handsome' actor as Ashoka.

(Chuckles) That is the point. From my reading, I know that Ashoka was not a
handsome person in the traditional sense. He was also a dark skinned person.
One of Ajay's strengths is that he can get under the skin of any well-written
role and make it his own. He has sharp, expressive eyes. And he appears to be
very natural in all the challenging characters he has played so far.

People surely have asked this question before. There is already a film on
Ashoka, starring Shah Rukh Khan [
Images
] and directed by Santosh Sivan. The film got mixed reviews and did not perform
well. What made you decide on another film on the emperor?

The answer lies in your question. It is not that I did not like the previous
film. But I found it ended at a very important juncture, the Battle of Kalinga,
that led to Ashoka getting horrified with the carnage on the battlefield and
renouncing warfare.

My film starts where Santosh Sivan's film ended. I am fascinated by the life
and times of Ashoka. I remember reading H G Wells, who considered Ashoka to be
the most powerful emperor because of the moral strength he had in renouncing
violence and seeking an ethical life for himself and his people. Wells
considered Ashoka to be even greater than Alexander and Julius Caesar. It would
not have surprised me to read an Indian historian calling Ashoka great. But a
British historian recognising Ashoka's greatness? How can I resist the idea of
making a film on Ashoka?

There surely some people in the film business who think it is a risky subject?

I am sure. But the fact that I am all ready to make the film --- we plan to
start shooting it in February --- shows my confidence in the subject.

What did you find most interesting about Ashoka's life?

I am tempted to look at what might have happened after he renounced war and he
actually begin to believe in the renunciation. I don't think the transition was
easy. I don't think he stopped fighting the demons within himself once he took
that decision. I am often intrigued by, whether I read a novel or study
history, the transitional period.

What made you choose Bipasha Basu [
Images] for Ashoka?

I think Ajay and Bipasha have excellent screen chemistry. She plays the role of
Kaurwaki. She has to be sensuous and also a person of determination. This could
be one of the most challenging roles of her career.

There surely are people who will remind you about The Legend of Bhagat Singh.
Did that film eventually make the money?

The producers of the film say they haven't recovered the investment. And yet,
TIPS is so proud of the film, it is mentioned as their proudest achievement.
Though the film was not a runaway hit, thousands liked it. It won many awards.
Many people in India consider it to be one of the finest historical films made
by an Indian filmmaker.

Thanks to Vijay anna for giving his phone.

[arr] [SemiARR??] RajKumar Santoshi on Ashoka and Ajay Devgan

2008-01-04 Thread Gomzy
**
I hope ARR is doing this ??Also RKS talks about Ramyan!

http://www.rediff.com/movies/2008/jan/04raj.htm
**
*You love working with him, don't you?*

He is a trusted friend. And I feel that I will continue working with him for
many years. I never get tired of working with Ajay. He will be playing the
lead in *Ashoka* and then in the *Ramayan. *Both will be made within two
years. I am sure people will be astounded how he will interpret the two
compellingly fascinating characters. Ajay is one of the few leading men in
the industry today who will some day become a very valued character actor.

**

*What do you feel most appealing in him?*

He has never been a chocolate face actor. Though he has received a lot of
praise for his performances and awards, I feel every time I work with him,
there is so much more talent in him that is waiting to be exploited.
Ajay surprises me every time we are doing a new film.

**

*What kind of Ashoka would he make?*

I am sure he will bring out well all the contradictions, weaknesses and
strengths in *Ashoka*. I love history and I read extensively about
historical people. I have been thinking of this film for many years, and
Ajay was always there in my mind as Ashoka.

*[image: Vidya Balan]Some filmmakers would have been tempted to cast
'handsome' actor as Ashoka.*

(*Chuckles*) That is the point. From my reading, I know that Ashoka was not
a handsome person in the traditional sense. He was also a dark skinned
person. One of Ajay's strengths is that he can get under the skin of any
well-written role and make it his own. He has sharp, expressive eyes. And
he appears to be very natural in all the challenging characters he has
played so far.

*People surely have asked this question before. There is already a film on
Ashoka, starring Shah Rukh Khan
[Images
] and directed by Santosh Sivan. The film got mixed reviews and did not
perform well. What made you decide on another film on the emperor?*

The answer lies in your question. It is not that I did not like the previous
film. But I found it ended at a very important juncture, the Battle of
Kalinga, that led to Ashoka getting horrified with the carnage on the
battlefield and renouncing warfare.

My film starts where Santosh Sivan's film ended. I am fascinated by the life
and times of Ashoka. I remember reading H G Wells, who considered Ashoka to
be the most powerful emperor because of the moral strength he had in
renouncing violence and seeking an ethical life for himself and his people.
Wells considered Ashoka to be even greater than Alexander and Julius Caesar.
It would not have surprised me to read an Indian historian calling Ashoka
great. But a British historian recognising Ashoka's greatness? How can I
resist the idea of making a film on Ashoka?

**

*There surely some people in the film business who think it is a risky
subject?*

I am sure. But the fact that I am all ready to make the film --- we plan to
start shooting it in February --- shows my confidence in the subject.

*[image: A still from Halla Bol]What did you find most interesting about
Ashoka's life?*

I am tempted to look at what might have happened after he renounced war and
he actually begin to believe in the renunciation. I don't think the
transition was easy. I don't think he stopped fighting the demons within
himself once he took that decision. I am often intrigued by, whether I read
a novel or study history, the transitional period.

*What made you choose Bipasha Basu
[Images
] for Ashoka?*

I think Ajay and Bipasha have excellent screen chemistry. She plays the role
of Kaurwaki. She has to be sensuous and also a person of determination. This
could be one of the most challenging roles of her career.

*There surely are people who will remind you about The Legend of Bhagat
Singh. Did that film eventually make the money?*

The producers of the film say they haven't recovered the investment. And
yet, TIPS is so proud of the film, it is mentioned as their proudest
achievement. Though the film was not a runaway hit, thousands liked it. It
won many awards. Many people in India consider it to be one of the finest
historical films made by an Indian filmmaker.

 Rajini, Shankar, ARR for Robot!
Jan 4, 2008, 09:16

The market is in a flurry with a most exciting newsbuzz to kickstart the
new year!

Rumour seems to be turning into fact as the news of Superstar Rajinikanth
teaming up with dream team Shankar and A.R. Rahman makes the rounds of the
industry and beyond. This exciting project is to be called Robot and the
producer, we hear, is none other than the Billa money-makers Ayngaran
International.

With Billa doing brilliantly at the box-office and many other filmed lined
up, Ayngaran International are proving themselves to be a corporate-minded
and formidable force in the world of movie production. Robot could well be
the jewel in their crown. After the stupendous success – box-office-wise and
hype-wise – of Sivaji The Boss, the Shankar-Rajinikanth-A.R. Rahman team
definitely promises a Midas Touch to anyone backing them financially.

Mr. Karunamoorthy of Ayngaran International was not available for comment in
this regard – we can well understand that he must be super-busy ironing out
the details of this mega-deal!

We wish the team all the best with this exciting new venture!

[arr] SINGER HARINI IN RAHMANIA SHOW - PART II

2008-01-04 Thread Vithur
Dear Rahmaniacs, ( I HAVE TRIED MY HAND IN RECORDING IT AS MP3s , AND WILL
PROVIDE THE LINK IN MY NEXT MAIL . THE SOUND QUALITY MAY NOT THAT GOOD. AS I
AM NEITHER H.SRIDHAR, NOR EVEN SOMEBODY NEAR ARR.. . PLS BEAR WITH ME )

Singer Harini speaking to Raihana on Rahmania Show - Aaha FM 91.9 Part II..

*HELLO EDIRKATCHI* :- At the end of the song, ARR wanted me to sing it in a
Classical manner, and so Harini gave that classical turning at the end of
the song, which made the song very interesting .

*OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS :-* My father used to learn Music. Mother's father
also. But all had the ears of Music. But nobody became popular. An Incident
that happened when I was just 9 months baby. My father went to Shankara
Bharanam Film, . There was a song called Manickam Song. he liked it very
much, and recorded the same in a tape recorded. When he came home and played
the cassette, he could hear a humming of a baby along with it. Actually, it
was Harini's humming, and this happened when she was a 9 month baby. She was
destined to be in the Music Line . Her mother used to feel that sh got it
right from that time.

*SINGING WITH HARIHARAN ( THOTAL POO MALARUM FROM NEW ) :-* It was a great
experience , but luckily for her, she sang the song after Hariharan had sung
his bit. The Raagam used in the song was Hindolam. She could hear the
richness of the Raaga. She terms Hariharan as a JAMBAVAN in Music ( JAMBAVAN
meaning a Monarch ) . She was feeling nervous to sing her bit. It was highly
challening, and also competitive . ARR told her to just freak out in the
raaga . She got an INternational ITFI Award clubbed for this and for her
rendition in Padayappa .

*SUTHI SUTHI SONG FROM PADAYAIPPA* :- ARR told her that it was a different
song, a folk song, and she should concentrate well. Vairamauthu was present
in the studio, and gave the lryics . He told her that it was a different
song, for a different situation. A Maja type of a song, and that she should
sing it in different expressions. So, she included ( ha ha ) in between.
*"AAYOO "EXPERIENCE ( SAME SONG )* :- In that song, there comes a bit in
between, where Harini sings Aayoo... In fact, she never uttered the word
during recording. In between, there was some jokes shared, for which *she
said Aayoo and ARR recorded that, wihout her notice.* In fact, she got
so much of praise just for that one word Aayoo. She thanks ARR specifically
for that song. She used to sing that song in South Africa , Durban. A lot of
Tamil Listeners used to clap so much for that song. She says ' All thanks to
ARR for giving her such a wonderful song".

*HER PROFESSION* :- She says that all professions will have their highs and
downs. But she says that she enjoys her singing, even if it was for 3 hrs
long. She always feels that Music is divine.

*ARR CONCERT IN DELHI* :- At the time fo Vandemataram Release, She, along
with her mother had been to Delhi. She was very much excited seeing the
audience for the Show. The whole stage was vibrating, and she had never seen
such a welcome anywhere before. HATS OFF TO ARR..

*SONGS WHICH SHE WOULD HAVE FELT LIKE SINGING :-* For Raja Sir .. A Lot of
Songs. She used to see how well the other singers have sung that song,
instead of feeling bad, that she was unable to sing the same. She feels that
all songs that she has sung, have been suited to her voice with good melody.
She likes the song ' Snegidhane " sung by Sadhana Sargam ( Alaipayudhey )

*FAVOURITE SINGER* :- LATAJI, janaki amma, Chitra Chechi

*SONNALUM KETPADHILLAI :-* The Lyrics was there . Kadhir was present.
Lyrics + Tune was brilliant. ARR asked her to bring her own ideas into it.
She tried different Sonnalums ( beginning ) , and finally ended up with a
format. It was a great experience to sing that song.

*SONIYA SONIYA ( RATCHAGAN )* :- Again ARR told her to sing in a different
style. She sang with Bold Voice. She says that with ARR , all songs are
different. Western and Fast Songs are lot.

*CHILLALAVA CHILLALVA ( EN SWASA KATRE )* :- She sang with Anupama .
Starting of Thati Adhuthey was sung by Harini. At the end, there is a
humming, and she sang it in keeravani style. Then it was very nicely fused
by ARR. Raihana says that Nobody can do fusion like ARR.

*THEEKURUVIL SONG ( KANGALAL KAIDHU SEI )* :- Lady Lyricist. Lyrics were
given 4 - 5 hrs before. The lyricist explained her each word, with meaning,
and taught her how to pronoune , with meaning.

She says that she ca never forget any song that she has sung .

*AZHAGANA RATCHASI ( MUDHALVAN )* :- The original lyrics was different. ARR
asked to change the same, as it sounded like a beating previously. SPB had
sung his bit before, with so much of ease. Harini learnt a lot of
expressions from SPB. IT was great benefit for her.

*VAARAYO THOZHI ( JEANS )* :- It was a funfilled song. It was Sonu Nigam 's
first song in Tamil. At that time, he was not a big singer. A lot of
turnings was given by Harini for that song.

*ALAIPAYUDHEY SONG* :-

2008-01-04 Thread Gobi Kanadasan
I'm glad dat ARR is doing d BGM. Even though he was given very short period of
time to BGM for ATM, he managed to do it nicely. So if he is given ample time
as Sivaji, no doubtARR's BGM will b standing out. Proof ??? Sivaji. It
had world class BGM. Provided Kamal comes out all guns blazingDasavatharam
has d chance to be bigger than Sivaji with execellent BGM score. There is an
interesting trend growing in Tamil cinema...If u wan your movie to be
internationally acclaimed, go for ARR...he will make it noticed at world
stageSo many times he has proved it.Juz waiting for the
confirmationMayb Gopal can inform us if ARR is doing d BGM.

Ghajini Remake (A.R. Rahman)

Ok, so no one knows till date about the eventual title of this film which is so
far being referred to as 'Ghajini remake'. But naam mein kya rakha hai?
Especially, when the project brings together professionals like Aamir Khan and
A.R. Rahman. The original Tamil film 'Ghajini' had chartbuster tracks by Harris
Jayaraj (who till date is known for his excellent score in Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil
Mein.) Though Rahman has stepped in for the Hindi version, no one has doubts
around the eventual product that would be up for grabs this year.

Yuvraaj (A.R. Rahman)

Mention of Yuvraaj may be coming at the very end due to alphabetical ordering
but it sits right up there if one looks at anticipation quotient! Subhash Ghai
and Rahman coming together is big enough news, especially since it will be
after 9 long years that the two would be coming together after
Taal (Kisna had Ismail Darbar sharing credits with Rahman). With the film's
subject being musical, Gulzar saab writing lyrics, Shiamak Davar as the
choreographer and actors like Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor and Katrina Kaif coming
together,
Yuvraaj is going to be magnum opus of 2008!

only one song was pending from his side.

'Apart from that one song, I have completed all my works for the movie. So, it

On his family, the music maestro said, 'my children wants me to spend time with

Denying media reports that he was the reason behind the delay of
Chakkarakatti, the debut movie of K Bhagyaraj's son Santhanu, AR Rahman said
only one song was pending from his side.

'Apart from that one song, I have completed all my works for the movie. So,
it is not true that I am the reason behind the delay,' said AR Rahman in a
recent interview.

On his family, the music maestro said, 'my children wants me to spend time
with them. I too try my best to fulfill their wish. But it is not possible
everytime. Otherwise, my family life is smooth and sweet, thanks to the
Almighty.'
