Mathan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi friends,

I would like to share about my experience with Rahaina mam
in Rahmania program. I guess most of you guys know about this show.
This is a dedicated program about 2 hours (6 PM to 8 PM on weekdays)
in Aha Ahaa FM 91.9 at Chennai.

Every week Wednesday is fans day. This week 28th May I got the chance
for take part in that program with Rahaina mam. I went to the studio
at 4:30 PM and received warm welcome from Rahaina mam. From 4:30 to
5:45 we were discussed many things including Boss's music, GV
prakash's work in Kuselan and other upcoming movies. Also about the
 upcoming movies by our BOSS.

Let me start off here… I was asked to pick my favorites 15 songs from
BOSS music. Once the songs were scheduled we were talking about few
 topics… I am just listing here…

She asked me whether the Hindi GAJINI released or not. I told her no…
and we guys are waiting for that. She told that the SONGS WERE
COMPLETED AND READY FOR THE RELEASE. (Great news…. isn't it?)

Then we discussed about the two new releases ADA and JTYJN. While
discussing about ADA she has mentioned that Milo wahan wahan song
was developed from the BGM of Kannathil Muthamittal. While
discussing about JTYJN I told her about our discussion about COPY
and DIRECT LIFT thread… she replied What crap this is… he doesn't
have time to watch TV or listen to other's music. I guess he might
not be aware of Devi sri prasad's film music and the movie names too.

Also she explain me that some times this kind of incident happens
with all of the MDs. She has given one example which was happened to
GV Prakash's music. That was He was composed a song a Thilang raag,
but it reminds me the Spiderman theme song. I told him that both like
similar…. But GV wasn't aware of the Spiderman theme.

(So guys please avoid using copy or direct lift for boss's music)

I asked her about ROBO… she told me that composing may start once the
ROBO project start rolling after Rajini reliving from Kuselan
project. Also motioned that GV came up with great tunes for Rajini
and great melody tunes for Pasupathi (Second here of Kuselan movie).

A great news for London fans…. the next live convert might be in
LONDON. Also she mentioned that she have no idea about the next live
 concert in India.

While discussing about her own music compositions I told that she is
one step ahead in composing folk song (In normal tamil words I would
say Kutthu paatu style) when compare to ARR also mentioned Kumango
 Kumango song from Machi movie.
She laughed and told that Rahman always wants to compose the folk
songs in very decent manner and also told that Kudikaran paatu
compose pannave matter (He hates composing for drunken situation)

After that we went to the studio room for the show and had fun…
totally it was a great experience. Here I would like to thank her for
offer to take part in that show, and my hearty thanks goes to Aha
 Ahaa FM and it's crew.

 With Regards,
 Mathan Raj A

Director Gowtham Vasudev Menon , who directed Minnale, Kaakha Kaakha, Vetaiyadu
Vilayadu, Pachaikili Muthucharam have had Music composed by his so called close
associate Harris jayaraj. Now Gowtham Menon is directing , Chennayil oru
Mazhaikaalam, for which Harris Jayaraj is not there. The combo is said to have
got seperated. A.R. Rahman is composing for this film. A.R. Rahman and Gowtham
Menon are combining for this film, for the first tme.
nbsp;
Have you had any problems with Harris Jayaraj ?. was the question put to
Gowtham, for which his reply was, I dont have any problems with Harris
jayaraj. I always had a desire to work with A.R. Rahman. I met him, and
expressed my wish, for which he accepted it immediately. If we both combine ,
then the expectation would be very high was the reply from ARR. As said by
Rahman, the expectation for this film is very high. In the film, Mazhaikaalam
denotes Love ( Kadhal ) . As Mazhaikaalam ( Rainy Season ) is a good
experiences, so is Love.
nbsp;
In this film, Trisha is a modern day girl, a Software Engineer. Along with her,
Nikita, Netra are acting. Its a story between 3 ladies and 4 men. The Hero is
the brother of Actor Maheshwari ( Karuthamma fame ) . Daniel balaji (
Vettaiyadu Vilayadu fame ) is donning the role of a Psycho. The first phase of
shooting is over in Chennai, which went for 25 days. The second phase of
shooting is going on.

Translation (from BBC Urdu website):

At the completion of the shooting of Aamir Khan's newphew's
film JTYJN, A.R.Rahman took Aamir with him to Chennai. Throughout the
journey, Aamir asked Rahman but he didn't answer where they were going.
After travelling by car for 5 hours, they reached the tomb of Amin Pir.

Rahman's love for sufis is known to the entire world. That day was the
URAS of Amin Pir. When mehfil-i-sama (Qawalis etc) started, both Rahman
and Aamir were swaying from 1 am till 5 am. There can hardly be a
better example found of such a beautiful blend of love and music.

THanks.

AR Rahman has been a huge fan of Shammi Kapoor's films. In fact he has seen
most of his black and white films too.

So when we asked him to sing any of Shammi Kapoor's song, we were surprised to
see a blank expression on his face. Hey this is very embarrassing.

I seem to have gone completely blank. I don't seem to remember any of the
songs. However let me tell you that the music of his films was very peppy.
Kapoor is a man who changed the way songs were sung and shot. It was a
beautiful experience to meet him and his family and it was a dream come true
for me, says the media-shy music maestro. Let's hope the feeling is mutual!

[arr] ARR Song MAA...? Quite Old one

2008-05-30 Thread nandatronics
HI All,

Some time back I had recieved ARR CD collection from my
friend, which I had stored in my PC. The colletion had one Hindi Song
sung by a female singer, the title of the song was Maaa.. the
song was on relationship between Mother and daughter.
That was the first time I heard that song and was not sure
that was composed by ARR and from which movie. As my PC got formatted I
have lost that song and I am not able to find it again any where.
Does any one of you know, which movie is that song from.
It is about 3.5 minutes and very melodious.

Thanks and Regards,

it should take a solid 7 hours (atleast it did for me) and then there
is the ripping from DVD, encoding to wav, audacity downmix, etc etc.
but dont be discouraged... do like 5 chapters a day, u should be done

Rahman mentioned in the latest interview that the title track of
  Jaane
Tu is inspired from an original song form yester-year. Anyone know
that song? It was probably a number back in the 40s or 50s in the
  US,
so not many would be able to notice the similarities. Rahman
  seems to
have admitted that he composed very close to the original song.

[arr] What's the best encoding to listen to a rahman audio cd on portable?

2008-05-30 Thread nivensamy
Hello friends,

Im sure 99% of us must have a portable ditigal player, be it an ipod,
creative, microsoft, sansa etc... which lack a cd player.
My question is which best encoding can we use to retain all the sound
quality from the audio cd. FLAC and WAVPACK, APE etc are not the norm
on portable players so we are left with lossy mp3, wma etc...
Technically, we can make a choice just by comparison of these
encoders, but nothing is better than our ears and experience from
listening to rahman's CDs. So any recommendations based on experience?
How do u listen to rahman songs without the audio disc???

Cheers,
Niven

The songs of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na are distinctly different from what
you've churned out recently. What's the reason behind this?
Well the idiom of the JTYJN is very different and that's why I have also
tried and used single notes of sounds and simple guitar tunes. Director
Abbas Tyerwala has a lot of knowledge in music and knew what he wanted as
far as the sound is concerned.

Among Bollywood composers, Pritam gives a lot of scope to young artistes.
How much of space do you give to newcomers?
Well, whenever I get a chance and I think a young and fresh voice would
do perfect justice to my composition, I definitely like to give chance to a
young artiste. In fact, in JTYJN a couple of songs like Aditi and Pappu
Can't Dance are sung by newcomers and I think they have done a brilliant
 job.

Among your contemporary composers, whose works do you find interesting?
Well all the composers right now are really good, they all are capable of
delivering good songs. For instance, Vishal and Shekhar, Pritam etc. are
 really good.

You are always accused of keeping the best song of each film you compose
 music of for yourself ?
(Laughs) No. It's the producers and directors who like the way I sing and
want me to sing for their films. For JTYJN, it was the other way round. I
thought I would have liked to sing the title track. But Abbas was dead
against it. It was only when he heard it that he actually fell in love with
 it.

Your and Aamir's association has always given out some really good songs.
Do you think you too will recreate the same magic of Lagaan and Rangeela?
It is a happy coincidence that we've both been on projects where music
has played an important role. Our relationships in these films were of an
actor and a music director where the interaction is almost minimum. On
JTYJN, though, he was playing a producer. Our interaction has been minimum.
In fact, when Abbas and I wouldn't budge on certain issues, it was Aamir who
played the role of peacemaker. My relationship with Aamir is very personal
 and we are friends.

Didn't you fear that people would compare your title track with the
 original number?
I really like the title track of the film. I was a bit apprehensive since
it was a very popular yesteryear number. To give music to such a number
always brings along the fear of comparison. However, I have treated it as
the music for today's generation who may have not heard the original song.

Since film music is so popular in India, do you think we've reached a
stage where parents would encourage if their children wanted to earn a
living by composing. Or do they still want composing to be left as a
 part-time job?
Of course, I think film music is gaining a lot of popularity. So, many
music reality shows are coming up and the turnover for such shows is
massive. There is so much of competition in here. Music composition has
become very challenging and thus should be taken seriously and not as a
part-time job. As far as parents go, they should encourage their children
because if they have the knack for composing, they can definitely go a long
way. I think hard work always gets paid.

You have an official website. Do you intend to

Re: [arr] What's the best encoding to listen to a rahman audio cd on portable?

2008-05-30 Thread Ranjith K
WMA offers lossless compression which will use around 450 MB per Audio CD.

AAC would be better than MP3. 256Kbps AAC should be fine. iTunes uses that
for the high quality streams they offer.

do perfect justice to my composition, I definitely like to give chance to a
young artiste. In fact, in JTYJN a couple of songs like Aditi and Pappu
Can't Dance are sung by newcomers and I think they have done a brilliant
 job.

Among your contemporary composers, whose works do you find interesting?
Well all the composers right now are really good, they all are capable
of delivering good songs. For instance, Vishal and Shekhar, Pritam etc. are
 really good.

You are always accused of keeping the best song of each film you compose
 music of for yourself ?
(Laughs) No. It's the producers and directors who like the way I sing
and want me to sing for their films. For JTYJN, it was the other way round.
I thought I would have liked to sing the title track. But Abbas was dead
against it. It was only when he heard it that he actually fell in love with
 it.

Your and Aamir's association has always given out some really good
songs. Do you think you too will recreate the same magic of Lagaan and
 Rangeela?
It is a happy coincidence that we've both been on projects where music
has played an important role. Our relationships in these films were of an
actor and a music director where the interaction is almost minimum. On
JTYJN, though, he was playing a producer. Our interaction has been minimum.
In fact, when Abbas and I wouldn't budge on certain issues, it was Aamir
 who
played the role of peacemaker. My relationship with Aamir is very personal
 and we are friends.

Didn't you fear that people would compare your title track with the
 original number?
I really like the title track of the film. I was a bit apprehensive
since it was a very popular yesteryear number. To give music to such a
number always brings along the fear of comparison. However, I have treated
it as the music for today's generation who may have not heard the original
 song.

As far as parents go, they should encourage their children
 because if they have the

2008-05-30 Thread Gomzy
AAC and WMA are good but an MP3 with VBR 0 ( Variable bit rate) ranging from
224 to 312KBPS
is pretty decent.

AAC would be better than MP3. 256Kbps AAC should be fine. iTunes uses that
for the high quality streams they offer.

Technically, we can make a choice just by comparison of these

How do u listen to rahman songs without the audio disc???

for ipod, aac is a lossless format, providing u convert the original
wav rips to aac lossless. and for others, wma is much better than mp3.
u can do those in lossless or very close to one (atleast closer than
mp3).

I think 320kbps CBR (Constant bitrate) which is the highest level of
encoding mp3s, is good for the casual audiophile. For hardcore
audiophiles, I rhink you should do what our members have said ie. aac
etc.

[arr] Singer Manickavinayagam - PART II

2008-05-30 Thread Vithur
The transcript of the Part II of the interview of Singer Manickavinayagam is
as follows :-

Q :- What other songs have you sung for Rahman ?

Ans :- There was a song for S.J. Suryah. At the time of recording itself,
there were lot of furore. Because, S.J. Suryah, wanted maximum amount of sex
exposure and involvement in the song. He wanted lyrics to be written like
that. Vaali Sir got fed up, and went off home saying that he couldnt write
more than what he could at 11 30 PM. Rahman Sir was struggling in between.
He was making corrections in the Pallavi and Charanam. Then he told Suryah,
if he wanted him to get beatings from people. Rahman sir was scolding
Suryah. Then, he called me, and requested me to make some changes in the
lyrics of the charanam. I was just blushing him, by telling him that I am
not coming forward for this game of yours.. But the recording went on quite
nicely, and in a enjoyable fashion. The only worry for me was that the song
didnt come in the movie. ( MAARKANDEEYA NEE VARUVAAYA song ) . Nityashree
was feeling very uncomfortable singing that song. The song could have been
picturised in a better manner, which could have avoided it from being
deleted by the censor board.

*ONE THING ABOUT RAHMAN IS THAT , WHATEVER MAY BE THE LYRICS ( IN TERMS OF
BEING WORDED SEXY) , HE WILL MAKE SURE THAT , WHEN THE SINGER SINGS IT, THE
IMPACT OF THE SEXINESS IS NOT THAT MUCH DISPLAYED BY THE SINGER. BY CHANCE,
IF THE SINGER HAD GIVEN SOME EXPRESSIONS, WHICH WAS LITTLE EXTRA, HE WOULD
RECORD A VERSION, WHERE THE SINGER HAD NOT GIVEN THAT EXTRA EXPRESSION. HE
ALWAYS MAKES SURE, THAT PEOPLE DONT SCOLD HIM, OR IT DOESNT COME IN A BAD
WAY...*

( The above was said by Raihanaji )

Q :- You had sung for a BGM in Kannathil Muttamittal. I had sung for the
female voice, and you had sung for the male version.. ( this was for the
Vidai Kodu Naadu BGM )

Ans :- The same tune was asked to be sung as an aalaap. He had taken it as
two three versions. The song and the BGM were amazing , when I watched the
film. It was a very touching scene in the film also..

I have also sung for a Re recording in Ayidha Ezhithu, when Madhavan and
meera Jasmine meet, develop love etc etc . There were two lyrics actually
written by Vairamuthu Sir, called Kiliye Kiliye. Rahman Sir told that he
didnt want those Kiliye Kiliye stufff. Instead, he wanted something like
Nilave, Ennavale sort of lyrics , and asked me, as Vairamuthu Sir was not in
town that time. He played an aalaap of a Hindi Singer, and showed me the
pattern , and wanted me to sing in that pattern. I went inside, and started
practising in my own style.

The speciality with Rahman Sir is that ,,, He leaves us by giving us full
freedom, so that we can do what all circuses we want to do. So, when I was
singing it, he commented to Maniratnam saying, See here, How the Pakistani
singer is singing That was a big compliment to me. Though he may be
young to me by age, today, he is a very big genuius internationall
acclaimed. I am very proud to see myself existing in his times.

The way he recognises, the talent of others, and praises them is not to be
seen anywhere.

As a Music Director, I had come to panchathan Studio of ARR, along with
Jesudas anna. That time, Rahman Sir had requested Jesudas anna to come and
hear the songs of Roja, telling that it was his first film... His humility
always takes him to heights

 FAVOURITE SONGS OF ARR

1. Chinna Chinna aasai
2. Ennavale Ennavale
3. Yerrani Kurrani Gopala --- Rahman Sir's speciality is the way he blends
the fusion in a folk song. Its a blessing of his parents, of GOD. His
fingers have a speciality... a blessing
4. Udhaya Udhaya -

A great musician and a great composer is a rarity and we find Rahman Sir in
that category.

5. Sahaana Saaral Superb Melody... No one can dare to compose such a
melody number for rajni Sir. Absolutely superb

6. Kurukku Sirithavale ... Superb Raaga ...

I used to feel jealous of not getting to sing these songs like Aalakanda (
Sangamam)

Snghidane ( aalaipayudhey) .. soft melody. Only hecan compose such tunes..

Background score of AE, especially for this vocal part of 'Manickavinayagam'.
When I heard it first I thought that it was renderd by Bharathiraja Sir. And

of the Part II of the interview of Singer Manickavinayagam is as follows :-

Q :- What other songs have you sung for Rahman ?

Ans :- There was a song for S.J. Suryah. At the time of recording itself,
there were lot of furore. Because, S.J. Suryah, wanted maximum amount of sex
exposure and involvement in the song. He wanted lyrics to be written like that.
Vaali Sir got fed up, and went off home saying that he couldnt write more than
what he could at 11 30 PM. Rahman Sir was struggling in between. He was making
corrections in the Pallavi and Charanam. Then he told Suryah, if he wanted him
to get beatings from people. Rahman sir was scolding Suryah. Then, he called
me, and requested me to make some changes in the lyrics of the charanam. I was
just blushing him, by telling him that I am not coming forward for this game of
yours.. But the recording went on quite nicely, and in a enjoyable fashion. The
only worry for me was that the song didnt come in the movie. ( MAARKANDEEYA NEE
VARUVAAYA song ) . Nityashree was feeling very uncomfortable singing that song.
The song could have been picturised in a
better manner, which could have avoided it from being deleted by the censor
board.

ONE THING ABOUT RAHMAN IS THAT , WHATEVER MAY BE THE LYRICS ( IN TERMS OF
BEING WORDED SEXY) , HE WILL MAKE SURE THAT , WHEN THE SINGER SINGS IT, THE
IMPACT OF THE SEXINESS IS NOT THAT MUCH DISPLAYED BY THE SINGER. BY CHANCE, IF
THE SINGER HAD GIVEN SOME EXPRESSIONS, WHICH WAS LITTLE EXTRA, HE WOULD RECORD
A VERSION, WHERE THE SINGER HAD NOT GIVEN THAT EXTRA EXPRESSION. HE ALWAYS
MAKES SURE, THAT PEOPLE DONT SCOLD HIM, OR IT DOESNT COME IN A BAD WAY...

Thanks for sharing your views.. I personally think that WAV is the

VBR Wma does the job quite ok. Also Apple strong arguement is that AAC

WAV if I dont wannt to miss anything from rahman studio sound

Ada Music Review: Rahman’s Ada leaves you wanting for more Geshan Manandhar
  Saturday, May 31, 2008

It’s been a while we had not got chance to listen to the musical gems by the
musical maestro A R Rahman. Ada came as a surprise to me and with the bid to
remix songs as a competition this was surely going to be a power packed album.
The initial TV promos are also worth while and the black background with white
text and ample photos give you the overall feel of the movie. The inlays covers
are descriptive, narrative and pact the punch visually and in words. Let’s
scrutinize the songs in this album one by one.

The album kicks off with “Ishq Ada – Male version” impeccably crooned by Rashid
Ali. From the first guitar pluck you seem be getting deeper in the quick sand
in this song. The composition is groovy and lyrics define what love is and I
think Raqueeb Alam has penned a passionate piece of art and the singer has done
full justice to the composition and the lyric. The instrumentation is of the
fusion kind with guitars up front. Next number is “Hawa Sun Hawa” featuring the
silk voiced Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik in the vocals department. Nusrat Badr
has written a very heart felt lyric that highlights the need of two lovers to
meet and see each other. Composition and music is signature A R Rahman with
some synthetic music but very well blended with earthy instruments like flute,
piano, tabla etc. Consequently appears “Gumsum” sung by Sonu Nigam and Alka
Yagin in a euphoric fashion. Lyric by Nusrat Badr this time reminds of spring
of a new year, Rahman’s arrangement and
instrumentation truly stands out in this song. It’s a feel good song with
ample percussions from the conventional instruments and synthetic sounds to
support the arrangement. Subsequently its time for “Gulfisha”, for this track
the vocals have been lent by Sonu Nigan, Sunidhi Chauhan Viviane Chaix.
Starting with some crooning by Viviane the duo of Nigam and Chauhan have
executed the song in a classy way. Nusrat again scores with his impressive
lyric. Composition is relatively simple but the arrangement makes you adore
this song from the first listen. After it the next song is “Meherbaan” which is
vocalized by A R Rahman himself which packs a punch from the first note.
Starting with a piano rhythm when you hear Rahman’s voice you just fall in love
with this song. The lyric is beyond comparison by Raqueeb Alam that signifies
the need of love in one’s life. A very simple composition but the passion put
in this song by maestro makes it irresistible and you end up listening
 to it again and again.

At track 6 Chitra, Sukhwinder Singh with Naresh Iyer sing “Tu Mera Hai” penned
down by Badr. Talking about achievement of love the back vocals by Naresh is
the USP of this song. Sukhwinder sings in this song rather than just shouting,
no offense. The composition is amazing and the instrumentation go in sync with
the lyrics. Next track is “Hai Dard” vocalized by Udit Narayan Jha. Jha has
done a formidable job in this song. With tragic lyrics by Badr this song has
that dark feel in the composition department as well. Singer selection may be a
question in this song but overall it’s a good song saved primarily by Rahman’s
efforts. Again “Isha Ada” comes to view but this time the Female Version
crooned effortlessly by Parul Mishra. With an unplugged experience this song
resembles the male version but has its own qualities to be reckoned with. As
the male version this song is also fully packed with overflowing emotions.
Towards the end we have “Milo Wahan Wahan” executed in an
ideal way by Alka Yagnik Jayachandaran. Mainly the high notes are done in an
unspoiled manner. Bard’s lyrics stand out in this song and the composition is
also on target. The slow tempo and the right instrumentation make it easy to
like this track. Last track is “Meherbaan Instumental” on guitars by Sanjeev
Thomas. The sound is clean and spot on. It’s a very good style to end an album
with an instrumental piece and leave the audience wanting for more and more.

On the whole, getting a gem of an album by Rahman after a while was a good
experience. You can even remix “Gumsum” or “Gulfishan” as a part of the deal
with Rahman and Nokia at http://www.remixrahmansada.com so try becoming a DJ.
Regarding the album Rahman strikes again, be it old new singer selection mix,
composition, arrangement or the overall fell of the album. If you liked
Rahman’s songs in the past this is a must buy for you.Enjoy the stylish ada of
the maestro as he will never go out of fashion.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na
  music review

  By movietalkies
  Tuesday May 27 9:15 PM
Abbas Tyrewala makes his directorial debut with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, a
film which seems to be about, and for the youth. The music of the film has been
composed by the musical genius AR Rahman, while Tyrewala has written the lyrics
himself, and true to his style, there seems to be an entirely new syntax that
he seems to discover with his lyrics. Rahman obliges suitably, with a very
different kind of soundtrack, different, at least to the kind that he is
generally known for. Both manage their breakaways from the traditional, without
straying too far from the familiar. The resulting album is a mix of sounds and
words which are contemporary, young and fresh. The album of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane
Na has a total of seven songs, with one of them reappearing in a remixed
version as well. The voices are young and fresh for the most part, going well
with the cast of the film, also young and fresh.
The album opens with the peppy 'Kabhie Kabhie Aditi' sung by Rashid Ali. The
tone of the song may be peppy but its lyrics actually talk of profound
emotions, like love, loss and the philosophy of living life with a smile.
'Kabhi Kabhi Aditi/Zindagi main yun hi/koi apna lagta hai/who bichchad jaye
to/ek sapna lagta hai. Rashid sings the song with a flair that seems to belie
his age. There is a certain ease with which the song has been rendered, the
style, which is really catchy. This is a number which is bound to do extremely
well.
'Pappu Can't Dance', the second number in album is akin to the ubiquitous
'tapori' song, which was mandatory in Hindi films at a certain time. Sung by
Benny Dayal, Naresh Iyer, Satish Chakravarthy, Aslam, Blaze, Tanvi and
Bhargavi, the number is all about fun and masti. The band of young voices does
a very good job indeed in bringing out the mood of the song without going
overboard. More than anything, the song truly exhibits the versatility of
Rahman. This number appears again in the album, in a remixed version and packs
the same punch as it did in the orginal.
The third number of the album, 'Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai', appears twice in the
album, once in the female version sung by Runa, and then the male version by
Sukhwinder. Of course, the lyrics of the two differ slightly. In both its
versions, this song literally throbs with emotion. Coming to female version
first, the accompanying music is subtle and plays out like a throbbing
undercurrent running through the entire song. Runa gives a low key, emotionally
charged rendition of the song. The female version seems to have more angst than
the male version. Sukhwinder gives a masterly rendition as well. But it's
Runa's version which truly stands out. This song definitely ranks among the
best in the album along with the title track and 'Kabhi Kabhi Aditi.'
'Nazrein Milana Nazrein Churana,'sung by Benny Dayal, Satish Chakravathy,
Sayonara, Darshana, Svetha, Bhargavi and Anupama is another fun song and has
been rendered very well. 'Tu Bole Main Boloon, sung by Rahman himself is the
song of the album. The song has the feel of an old fashioned jazz number.
Rahman's creates a perfect ambience for this romantic number with the small
flourishes with the piano, the trumpet and the jazz drums. The lyrics of the
song lend themselves easily to this kind of a lazy, romantic rendering 'Tu Bole
Glass Adha Khali/Main Boloon Adha Bhara/ Main Boloon Kitna Saara/Tu Bole Zara
Zara.' This song is definitely the best in the album and one cannot imagine
anyone else but Rahman singing it.
Rashid Ali and Vasundhara Das's 'Kahin To' is a simply written and composed
song, rendered in a simple manner by the singers. And it is this simplicity,
which is its hallmark of the number. The song has few flamboyant flourishes and
is rendered very touchingly by Rashid with Vasundhara providing him good
support. The number is touching specially the part where it goes 'Jaane Na
Kahan Woh Duniya Hai/ Jaane Na Woh Hai Bhi Ya Nahin/Jahaan Meri Zindagi Mujhse
Itni Khafaa Nahin.' This is one of those numbers where the lyrics, the music
and the rendition are in perfect harmony.
The music of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na has all the elements in it. It is young,
peppy, speaks the language of the youth, and most importantly, speaks the
language of love in contemporary times. Full credit to Rahman and Tyrewala for
their brilliant collaboration in this album.

[arr] Indiaglitz reviews ADA - An enchanting Rahman experience

2008-05-30 Thread $ Pavan Kumar $
Ada... a way of life Music ReviewPrint
E-mail thisAda... a way of life - An enchanting Rahman
experience document.write('Savio Zacharia, ') Savio Zacharia, IndiaGlitz
[Friday, May 30, 2008]The music of “ ADA ” comes as a breath of fresh
air. There is everything one can wish for in a complete music album – romantic
duets, the pain of separation, the heart rendering cry of a questioning soul,
the playfulness of youth - every mood, every sound, and each word captured in
an enchanting experience.
Born out of passion of Tanveer Ahmad (producer and director), comes a story
of love, passion, justice, need, sacrifice, suffering. Ayaan Ahmad Nauheed
Cyrusi have given powerful performances as the main protagonists.
The album opens with ‘Ishq Ada Hai’. The male version has been crooned by
Rashid Ali who seems to Rahman’s favourite for now making his presence felt in
Rahman’s ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ too. The track is very much unlike Rahman with
intensifying vocals and guitar interludes. The track has s sufi touch to it and
isn’t Rahman’s finest of the album, yet keeps you tuned.
The female version brings in another newcomer Parul Mishra in her complete
innocence carrying the lyrics forward. The voice is refreshing and draws you to
the soulful expression of emotions. The female version indeed over rules the
male version.
‘Hawa Sun Hawa’ mesmerizes you right from the start with Alka Yagnik’s
humming. The melodious track reaches the splendid status with Sonu Nigam’svoice
and the flute work. The track is complte srene , feel good number with Rahman’s
stamp all over it.
‘Gumsum’ brings in Sonu and Alka once again for a number that is more on the
peppier side ccarrying the grandeur feel often associated with Yash Chopra
films. The track is sweet and romantic enough to reignite that romance from
within.
‘Gulfisha’ brings in well orchestrated music. The track has been crooned by
Sonu and Sunidhi Chauhan. The track truly belongs to Sunidhi who carries the
sleek genre of the track. The track does remind us of a few compositions from
‘Rangeela’.
Rahman finally steps into the vocals with ‘Meherbaan’ a soft, smooth, highly
romantic track .Rahman’s voice enhanced by the lyrics brings in complete
serenity. This track is no doubt the finest of the album. The instrumental
version of the track too is splendid.
‘Tu Mera Hai’ opens with the melodious voice of Chitra on a high note. Chitra
who has been away from the Hindi playback circuit impresses with this
passionate track. The obsession theme of the track is further brought out by
Sukwinder Singh who does his bit to raise the tempo after his contribution to
Rahman’s ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ album.
‘Hai Dard’ brings in Udit Narayan to a deeply remorseful track. The track
which carries the theme of separation fails to make a mark and is averagely
sounding.
‘Milo wahan wahan’ calls for deep attention towards the lyrics. The track
brings in the melodious Alka Yagnik but moreover brings in a name very much
popular on the southern front-Jayachandran. Jayachandran croons to excellence
to a Hindi number and soon draws you close to serenity.
To conclude, ADA brings immense talent with the voices of Udit Narayan, Sonu
Nigam, Alka Yagnik, A R Rahman, Chitra, Sukhwinder Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan,
