Re: [arr] Marg-Give Life Chennai Marathon

2008-08-21 Thread vrvithur
Dear Kalyanji

That would be great. But , I feel this is organised by Celebrities, and
this would clash with our normal food Distribution programme. Instead
of running for giving Life, why not we continue with gving Life
directly, by distributing food to the needy.

A brother of ours wanted to have the FD at Villivakkam this week end

Moreover, there would be a lot of celebrities coming for the function,
and I dont know if the real purpose would be solved in this. ( My
humble opinion pls)

Re: [arr] The rhythm of Shivamani's life

2008-08-21 Thread Anil Nair
And just to add ...Sivamani himself said this at a live performance he had
in the Bay Area recently. He mentioned both IR n ARR. He in fact went onto
play a medley of Tamil/Hindi songs where he had played the percussion some
of which were IR.

He probably holds ARR with more regard since with IR ...most of the artists
were relegated to the lower ranks ..the IR persona was always at the fore.
ARR changed that. Each and every artist who plays with him gets a mention in
the album covers and get their due as well in their own right.

So back to Vithur's answer about Sivamani having played for IR - I guess
Vithur is absolutely right.

Was it really Rahman who brought Sivamani into films? i doubt so. I
think it was SPB. or KVM. or even Ilaiyaraaja. Although he mentioned the
former two names, i am surprised Sivamani forgot to mention ilaiyaraaja
there. afterall, Sivamani was with IR. it is not sure who brough Sivamani
into films, i think it could be SPB. Sivamani infact acted as a negro
drummer in a Telugu film, way back in early 80s, for which SPB composed
music. So it could be SPB.

It would been appropriate if he had credited Rahman for
market-visibility, rather than just entry into films.

 Hai all,

"Rahman brought me to films : I remember it was a rainy evening, with
Dilip (A R Rahman) and I sipping coffee. We were at his studio and I
started playing on the spiral drums. All of a sudden, he said: `why
don't you work with me?' Everything happened so fast that my
first recording for Roja was completed without my being aware of it.
Dilip just switched on the recording machine while I played.I feel proud
of myself : I have worked with Zakir Hussain, Louis Banks, Karl Peters,
Shankar Mahadevan, Andrew Lloyd Webber, James Asher and Steven Segal. I
have even formed a band called Silk. But if I am really close to anyone,
it is S P Balasubramaniam, who is my godfather; Louis Banks; and A R
Rahman, a childhood friend and my composer in Roja, Rangeela, Taal and

[arr] 'DILLI 6' deferred to next year

2008-08-21 Thread rahmanfever
'DILLI 6' deferred to next year

Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and Kunal Kapoor starrer 'Dilli 6'
scheduled to release in December 2008, has now been postponed to
February 2009. Its producer Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has recently
announced it. Reliable sources attribute the postponement of 'Dilli 6'
to the new additions in the script after the shooting was over. And,
these corrections in the script need the entire cast to participate in
the movie's re-shooting . Besides, the new additions entail shooting
with Abhishek, who is busy overseas with the family's "Unforgettable
tour" at present. On top of it, Mehra wants Amitabh Bachchan to be a
part of the movie though in a special appearance only as Abhishek's
grandfather.

We can start an AR Rahman specific wiki at wikia.com. For example,
here is a 'wiki' devoted entirely to information on Harry Potter:
http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

If there is interest in an AR Rahman wiki that we can all edit and add
to, I can create it and maintain it.

2008-08-21 Thread Abdul Manaf
Hi siraj
i agree with you partly. You mentioned that it is boring to read articles copy
and pasted from other websites. But it is very useful to the members who are
checking mails through mobile. I regularly checking mails in my mobile and iam
very thankful to the members who are posting articles from various sites
especially VITHUR. I have been a member in this group since 2002 and reading
such posts. I believe that this group is more active comparing with other
forums because of such active members. U mentioned about some members here, yes
they were posting interesting topics in the last some months. Hope they will
come back.

[arr] Actress Trisha to sing for ARR

Hi all,

exceprt:

"In a Telugu movie named King, I'm doing the character of a singer. I do sing
well, that's why I could enact that role easily. I haven't exhibited my singing
skills as I was shy to sing before everyone. But, now I'm going to sing in
A.R.Rahman's music. I'm a big fan of AR Rahman"

[arr] NO healthy, constructive & meaningful posts on ARR's music anymore here... [SAD]

2008-08-21 Thread Siraj K
My dear fellow Rahmaniacs,

No offense meant; I don't intend to hurt anybody here; please understand.

It has been a long time since we had some healthy, constructive and
meaningful article / discussions happened in our own ARR's Yahoo Group
Forum.

Friends, please don't ask me, "How many posts have you posted? How many
articles you wrote? And for how many posts have you replied?" I've no answer
for this because I'm not so good in music to write a review or comment on
ARR's music. But as a fan, I do read all the posts (healthy & constructive)
posted by other fans here. I'm an active SILENT member.

Where are Chord, Amit, Rawat, and other strong members who writes reviews or
analyzes ARR's music and songs?

But now a days what we get to read in this forum is just "*Copy & Paste*"
from various websites and "*bits & pieces*" about ARR (& many times just
info related to ARR) from other sources. Many times it happens to get same
info from various websites (for ex, Kamal's Marmayogi, Mani's Mahabharat,
Shankar's Robo, Akshay's Blue, Rashid Ali's interviews, etc, etc...) We're
seeing same info about these on different posts atleast 5 times everyday (same
info is repeated over and over; again and again - by various fans; many
times by the same fan). Its really boring and frustrating to read.

There are few posts where there is no trace of ARR's name at all.

Yahoo Group is becoming like Orkut community where we don't see any healthy
debate or discussions.

Please guys, old active members of Yahoo! fans club, please come again and
start the healthy discussions.

It looks we're working hard to reach the message / post count to reach 1
million; we don't need that. If we want to reach 1 million, we can simply
start posting "*I LOVE YOU ARR*" everyday 10 times; soon we'll reach 1
billion or 1 trillion. We need some meaningful analysis and constructive
debates / reviews on ARR's music.

Sorry if my mail hurts anybody.

Cheers,
Siraj

Re: [arr] Preserving the History of ARR

2008-08-21 Thread Siraj K
Small suggestion

1. To start this, first we can create a section in wikipedia for
"Vairamuthu_Neram_ARR" and datewise, we can upload all info. So that even if
you google, you'll get the results.

2. Or there should be a provision to do the same kind of activity in
arrahman.com official website.

[arr] Preserving the History of ARR

2008-08-21 Thread S, Karthik
The below conversation has kindled a thought. Are we preserving the history of
ARR. Is some one doing it? Are we obliged to do it?

Take the example of the VM program in Aah ahaa FM. We get so much of info about
ARR. Do we need to preserve them for future references.? I know Vithur does
that, but shouldn't those be documented for pointed references. There are lot
many infos on ARR floating around. Gopal is a live encyclopedia of ARR, but do
we really have one or do we really have any idea about those things?

ARR should think on these lines and people around ARR should do this. ARR has
become too big and too important to be ignored by the world history. All his
details have to be preserved.

regards,
Karthik

I appreciate your intrest in starting discussions in group.

I have seen you asking questions like Awards in name of rahman, Rahman's
auto-biography, or somebody asking Bharat Ratna for RahmanYes..we all would
be proud if all these come to rahman..but..In Rahman's own words..He has just
started. Having given amazing songs, winning all possible awards, composing
albums such as Vande Matram,JGM,PFMB is not enough for musician and person like
Rahman. I beleive Rahman has moved into next & most Important stage of his
life..with KM Musiq Conservatory, A.R Rahman Foundation, KM Musiq label, Music
rightsThese are going to be of great help to millions across the
globe..especially to those in our country.

All these awards, recognition would come in later stages of his life..He is just
40+ , Lets us all be proud and blessed that we are going to witness Rahman
acheive what no other person has acheived

Cheers,

Kamal Haasan plans costliest Indian film

Thursday, August 21, 2008: (Chennai):

Actor-director Kamal Haasan has confirmed that his film Marmayogi will
be produced by his banner in collaboration with Pyramid Saimira.

"We have signed an agreement with Pyramid Saimira and any news to the
contrary is a slur on our bonafide partnership. Media reports contrary
to this business deal struck between Raj Kamal Films International and
Pyramid Saimira Group are inaccurate and immature," said Kamal Haasan in
a press note issued on Tuesday.

A section of media reported that Kamal Haasan had moved out of the
agreement with Pyramid Saimira and had collaborated with Soundarya
Rajnikant, daughter of Tamil superstar Rajnikant.

P.S.Swaminathan, chairman of Pyramid Saimira, said: "The film is a
trilingual film to be produced in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, and plans are
afoot to make the film in English language also."

Based on Marie Corelli's 1886 novel Vendetta: The Story of One
Forgotten, Marmayogi at a budget of Rs.1.25 billion is the costliest
Indian film to date.

Swaminathan also pointed out that a project of this size cannot be made
without evaluating its business prospects and viability study.

"No company, which is taking up such huge project can move forward with
misplaced assumptions," said Swaminathan.

[arr] Niladri kumar- sitar player worked For A R RAHMAN

2008-08-21 Thread aneeshksasi

Hai all,

How did you start your career?

I started my career with Laxmikant-Pyarelal because my father used to
play for them. That was my initiation –it happened through Pyarelal
but when I came in 1991/92 they had almost gone out but I had the
privilege of working with them and meeting them because I accompanied my
father for their recordings. I still cherish those memories because they
were my initiation years.

Apart from shows what do you do?

I've played for almost all the music directors in the last ten
years. Today though the kind of music being used in films is slightly
different in films so there are a few people who like to experiment with
Indian sounds etc. Whoever calls me whether it is Anu Malik or AR Rahman
I enjoy playing for them. It's difficult to name songs I've
played for because we do the tracks and don't even know which songs
these are.

[arr] Kamal Hassan to direct multi-lingual "Marmayogi"

2008-08-21 Thread Abdul Manaf

Kamal Hassan to direct multi-lingual "Marmayogi"

Actor Kamal Hassan. He said that "Marmayogi" will be a major tri-lingual film
that will be made in English as well. Photo: By Special Arrangement
Chennai: Actor Kamal Hassan has said that "Marmayogi" will be a major
tri-lingual film project that will be made in native English as well. Apart
from playing the lead role, he will direct the film.
Kamal Hassan, whose "Dasavatharam" has been received well at the box-office,
said Raaj Kamal Films International had signed an agreement with Pyramid
Saimira Group for the venture. The date and venue of the launch of
"Marmayogi"", a multi-million dollar magnus opus will be announced soon.
The film is initially planned as a tri-lingual, in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
Kamal was confident that the film would project Indian cinema globally in the
best possible manner.
This will be the third directorial venture for the star after "Hey Ram"! and
"Virumaandi".
The actor dismissed "rumours and unsubstantiated reports" about the film and
requested the media to clarify with the film's publicity departments before
writing about the venture. He described some of the reports as "concocted."
Separately, Pyramid Saimira Theatre issued a press statement confirming the
formal agreement they had signed with Raaj Kamal International.
