[arr] "I’m sure our film will be on par with films" - Soundarya Rajnikanth ( SEMI ARR)

2008-11-18 Thread Vithur
 *Kuselan* * may not
have met with audience expectations, but the south superstar
**Rajnikant*
* is returning to the big screen with his first animation flick 'Sultan -The
Warrior'.

*The movie portrays Rajnikant as Sultan, a warrior prince. It is co-produced
by Ocher Studios, Adlabs and Warner Brothers. It has been two years since
the movie is under making. It is touted as the most expensive film ever made
with a budget of Rs 700 million.

'Sultan-The Warrior' is an animated film with the use of motion-capture
technology and latest 3D software to give a life-like animated
representation of the actors. In fact, the minutest changes in facial
expression can be seen clearly, thanks to technology. For the shooting of
the film, it is reported that sophisticated animation equipments were
imported.

Soundarya Rajnikant herself has donned the director's cap for the film. The
actress of Anjathey
fame
Vijayalakshmi is
starring opposite Rajnikant. The music is by maestro A R
Rahman, lyrics
are by Vairamuthu and the art direction is by Thota Tharani.

Soundarya is quoted as saying: "I'm sure our film will be on par with films
from internationally reputed animation companies….The character modelling,
texturing, visual effects, lighting, animation are all being done in-house".

Rajnikant has completed his schedule for the film which is set to release on
14th April, 2009. It will be released in twelve languages which includes
Tamil and Hindi.

[arr] "Sivamani introduced me to Mr.A R Rahman" - Blazee

2008-11-18 Thread Vithur
Satyam's S Mag Satyam Cinemas' S -Simply Cinema mag has quite a lot of
worthy mentions of ARRji this time.
The book that comes with a Gowtham Menon frontpage.

*HEAR ME BROTHER* -Interview with Blaaze.
(Relevant questions)
Q.What about ur own favourite songs?
A.'Dear Mama' by 2Pac, 'Warriors in Peace' by A R Rahman, Both these songs
make an impact on the world , through the listener.

Q.Inroads into Tamil films. How did that come about?
A. Prayers and more prayers. Sivamani introduced me to Mr.A R Rahman. And
about a year later, my wife mentioend it to him again. And though I was
comfortable in English, Mr.Rahman truly got me into the Tamil vibe and its
been magical ever since. We tried somthing on the 'Dating' song in Boys. my
first real full Tamil/English song, and the way Mr.Rahman blended,
conceptualised and presented the track, finally truly made me aware that if
done correctly, this may just work. And the response was freat. Amen.

The very next page has two pics of Rahman.
Both from the music release function of "Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu" that
happened at Satyam.
In one hes seen next to Gowtam Menon and the other next to the hero(new face
Vishnu) and Vikku Vinayagam releasing the music.

A Subtle mention.. Leaves out of my book - Suhasini's monthly article.

"When we send films from the Madras Talkies office to any of the
international film festival screenings, the common practive used to be to
remove the songs and then send them. But that has changed. These days if we
do that, people call from Cannes or Berlin asking why "that beautiful song
on top of a train is missing frm the reels." This is globalisation! "

I am to some extent convinced with the split. The recent VA didnot
have any good soothing track unlike their earlier ones.
I wish the media doesn't pour the ingredients blaming AR to be a
reason for the split. I had earlier read the GM had indeed approached
AR for Minnale prior to HJ.

[arr] A R Rahman is clearly very bold and sure of what he is doing.

2008-11-18 Thread Vithur
I am very much looking forward to Friday, coz that's when they're going to
release Yuvvraaj . The movie is produced and and
directed by Subhash Ghai ,
cinematography by the same guy who was behind
Taal,
music by A R Rahman and lyrics by
Gulzar.
Sigh. This movie is going to leave me so satisfied, I already am positive. The
trailers are awesome . The movie
stars Anil Kapoor , Salman
Khan,
Zayed Khan and Katrina
Kaif.
Oooh, check out the artwork on that cello.

In this movie, Salman Khan plays the role of a young guy who has had a very
large fall out with his father and has left his home. When his father dies,
he returns home to claim his share of the father's money and legacy. He has
two brothers played by Anil Kapoor and Zayed Khan. Anil Kapoor plays the
role of a mentally challenged person but a one who has fine talent of music.
Zayed Khan plays the role of a spoilt rich boy who cannot accept that his
father has left the bulk of his estate to his mentally challenged son.

Yuvvraaj has been shot in Prague, Czech Republic and Austria. This film is
Subhash Ghai's most expensive project.

As for the music, A R Rahman is clearly very bold and sure of what he is
doing. The CD opens with an introduction by Salman Khan's character
with Beethoven's
Symphony No. 5 playing
in the background. I am someone who adores the Hungarian
National Philharmonic
Orchestraversion
of Beethoven's symphonies (owns the whole set!) and yet I have to
admit that this piece in the CD performed by the Chennai String Orchestra is
goose bumpily awesome. Felt disappointed that a complete performance of that
piece by them was not separately available on the CD.

Moving onto the rest of the songs, I am in love with *Tu Meri Dost
Hain*(sung by Shreya Ghoshal, Benny Dayal, A R Rahman) and
*Tu Muskura* (sung by Alka Yagnik & Javed Ali).

Here's an excerpt from *Tu Meri Dost Hain*:

"a*aja main hawa on pe bithake le chalun*
(Come, let me take you over the winds)
*aaja main khala on mein uthake le chalun*
(Come let me take you across the heavens)
*awaaz ka dariya hoon, behta hoon main nili raaton mein…*
(I am a sea of voices, flowing on cloudless blue nights)…

The music of this movie is meticulously arranged, filled with melody and in
perfect harmony. Though, I am still wondering why the song is titled as *Tu
Meri Dost Hain*. I am very sure it's incorrect and that it should be *Tu
Meri Dost Hai*.

Afford wouldn't be the matter as long as he is determined what he
should get from AR and when he has substance to convince producer that
he can yield good returns.
The welcome of an option can exist as long as there can be compromise.

Rahman proposes, Himesh disposes

A R Rahman wants Himesh Reshammiya to sing his composition; but Himesh has
other plans

By Ashwini Deshmukh
Posted On Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Himesh Reshammiya
Himesh Reshammiya had once said that if he had to sing for any music director
other than
himself, it would have to be for A R Rahman. Now, Rahman has come up with a
composition, which
he thinks is apt for Himesh to sing.

Rahman said, “Yes, I have come up with a composition that Himesh can do justice
to. It is an
important song for a big actor, in a huge project and for a big banner. But
since the shooting
of this song will happen only next year, it will be wrong on my part to
disclose too many
details about it at this time.”

• I don’t sing for any outside banner (where I don’t act). I would instead
request Rahman
saab to give music for one of my films where I am the actor and singer
 – Himesh Reshammiya

So what made Rahman choose Himesh for the song? Rahman said, “Himesh’s voice
and the attitude
with which Himesh sings is just apt for this composition. I haven’t spoken to
Himesh as yet but
I will be talking to him very soon.”

When we told Himesh about Rahman’s plans, he said, “I am a great fan of AR
Rahman and his
music. It’s a great honour for me to sing his composition, but as a policy
decision, I only
sing for myself onscreen. I don’t sing for any outside banner (where I don’t
act).

A R Rahman
I would instead request Rahman saab to give music for one of my films where I
am the actor and
singer. In fact, if he agrees, it will be a dream come true. In my forthcoming
films Kajra Re,
Mudh Mudh Ke Na Dekh Mudh Mudh Ke, A New Love Ishstory, and an untitled film
for Studio 18, at
least one composition in each album is dedicated to Rahman saab. I just love his
 music

Sure the bgm is gonna b a big hit too like sakkarakatti's bgm..The bgm itself

decision, I only
sing for myself onscreen. I don’t sing for any outside banner (where I don’t

[arr] M.I.A's "O… Saya" for SdM

2008-11-18 Thread rahmanfever
M.I.A's "O… Saya" for SdM

M.I.A. blew up this year when her Kala track "Paper Planes"
became an instant hit. She said she had retired from the music business
back in June, but new reports reveal that the pregnant star is back.
According to Pitchfork, M.I.A. worked on the soundtrack to Slumdog
Millionaire with A.R. Rahman. She is said to have laid vocals on a track
called "O…Saya" for the new Danny Boyle movie. "Paper
Planes" – which is from her album titled Kala – also
allegedly turns up in the film. No word as to when that soundtrack is
coming out, but check your local listings for Slumdog Millionaire show
times.

2008-11-18 Thread Vithur
Musical giants T Series and legendary Showman Subhash Ghai's Mukta Arts
celebrated the success of Subhash Ghai's musical extravaganza Yuvvraaj at
Whistling Woods on Nov 17 at 5pm. The musical celebration of this
multi-starrer saw the entire cast and crew of the film descending at the
venue.

The legendary showman Subhash Ghai, music mogul Krishan Kumar, stars Anil
Kapoor, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Zayed Khan along with AR Rahman legendary
lyricist Gulzar, Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal spoke on the magnificent
music of the Ghai magnum opus.

"The success of the music depends upon the quality and power of music first,
but more than that, it depends how it reaches to maximum people. Today we
all give full marks to T-Series to make the music of Yuvvraaj heard and
appreciated the world over within a month… It is their passion and love to
bring Yuvvraaj on top of the charts… congrats and thanks to every member of
T-Series"… said an elated Subhash Ghai.

Added an equally enthusiastic Bhushan Kumar, "We had an overwhelming
response to a truly fantastic sound-track. All across the world, the music
is scaling to the top of the charts. The music has worked wonders on all
platforms -- physical, digital and radio stations… This Subhash Ghai-A R
Rahman–Gulzarji's combo is simply superb!"

Krishan Kumar expressed his happiness at the success of the music while AR
Rahman said it was only a person like Bhushan Kumar who could put the album
out in the market in record time and that was laudable and the response to
the music spoke of its success. Sonu Nigam and Sreya expressed their
feelings about the music and even hummed a few lines. The normally elusive
AR Rahman did a bit of humming himself.

Humour ruled the roost with the wisecracks of Salman boosted by Showman
Ghai. Zayed Khan and Anil Kapoor played on sportingly. Katrina was pretty
and emcee Siddarth Kannan did a bit of the questioning himself turning
journalist on the podium.

Yuvvraaj is a musical story of a fragmented family of three brothers Set in
Prague and Vienna, this musical extravaganza tells a story of two brothers
Salman Khan and Zayed Khan who are in desperate need of money, and have to
woo their eldest brother, Anil Kapoor to share their inherited property left
by their late father. The father in his 'will' had left the entire property
worth billions to his eldest son Anil Kapoor, who is mentally undeveloped,
challenged for his age, and is a tough nut to crack. The leading lady
Katrina Kaif is a musician and the beloved of Salman Khan in the film. She
plays the catalyst in this family drama through the echo of her music.

As though to mark it Salman was presented the musical instrument from the
film by Katrina, while Katrina herself was presented a painting of hers by
an artist. Salman gave her the work and expressed his appreciation for the
artist as well.

[arr] Music would be by A. R. Rahman - Gowtham Menon

2008-11-18 Thread Vithur
*In an exclusive interview to Indiaglitz Gautham Vasudev Menon has said that
he is upset about his estranged relationship with Harris Jayaraj. 'Just as
the media received emails from Harris I also received one about his decision
not to work with me'.

'Of course there were incidents that happened before this decision from
Harris. But I don't want to talk about them as he has not spoken about them'
said Gautham Menon.

'When Mani Ratnam and Illayaraja broke up years ago not many actually paid
much heed. Similarly there is no need to give much attention to our break-up
as well' added Gautham.

Gautham went on to say that filmdom is a highly unpredictable industry and
that anything could happen in the future. By saying this, is he hinting at a
possibility of Harris and himself coming together for a film in the future?
It will sure be good if that happens.

About his forthcoming projects, Gautham is gearing up to announce the start
of a project very soon. Music would be by A. R. Rahman and the 'Varanam
Aayiram' director would work with a new team for this venture which is
expected to kick start very soon.

Gautham Menon also spoke at length about his father and the reason as to why
he made 'Varanam Aayiram', Suriya's preparations for the film and also
answered many questions fielded by critics of late.*

[arr] The musical success of Yuvvraaj was celebrated yesterday (17th Nov.2008)

2008-11-18 Thread Vithur
Voted as 'world's most sexiest woman' and bollywood's heartthrob queen,
Katrina Kaif is a busy bee nowadays. After giving back to back super hit
flicks, this bombshell is gearing up to bombard her fans worldwide with yet
another flick, Yuvvraaj. Directed by Subhash Ghai, the movie has some great
music given by the combined effort of A.R. Rehman and Gulzar.

In the movie, Katrina plays a woman who's love interest lies in Salman. But
her greatest and deepest love lies in music. That is why Yuvvraaj's sideline
is 'Music binds Love'.

Producers and Directors are dying to work with this lady who is gaining
tremendous popularity. Currently, Katrina is shooting in Goa for Rajkumar
Santoshi's 'Azab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani'. Ranbir Kapoor pairs opposite her in
this film.

The musical success of Yuvvraaj was celebrated yesterday (17th Nov.2008) at
Subhash Ghai's Whistling Woods, filmcity.

The media and press were not sure if Katrina could make it to the event as
she was shooting in Goa, but the dutiful and hardworking lady worked all day
long in Goa and then even made it a point to make it to the event. This was
perhaps the last promotional event done as Yuvvraaj is all set to release
this Friday (21st Nov. 2008)

One must say Katrina has really put in a lot of effort to gain this name and
fame.

As one correctly says, "No pain; No gain". -*(SAMPURN)*

2008-11-18 Thread Vithur
Dear All,

I was stunned, and now also I am really unable to believe the movie " Super
Police". They could have kept the name of the film as Super BGMs or Super
Star ARR or Super ARR. The work of ARR for this movie is simply stunning. I
have some observations abt this movie and would like to share with our
family members

Observations

1. The BGMs of this movie are just awesome. Every Scene comes with a BGM. No
traces of silence.
2. The word ' eeemini" for " I Miss U da" from Sakkarakatti was used in this
movie too. There are BGMs with eeemini chants. So, now I infer that eemini
in SK was suggested by ARR
3. Was there a Theme Music released for this movie, as there is a stunning
Title Credits BGM, with Super Police Chants that keeps coming all through
the movie.
4. The Chants used by Harris for Anniyan has been very very deeply
influenced by the Villain Chants BGM from this movie. Its almost the same.
5. Is this the only Police movie done by ARR ??!!!

I am really thankful to our brother Janardhan ( chennai Fan member ) for
somehow getting the VCD of this movie..

Now, I am excited abt the other Telugu Movie done by AR. viz. GANGMASTER.

Can someone help me get the VCD of that movie ?

Thanks...

2008-11-18 Thread naushadali_dr
I am just a bit confused, on one hand we have people enjoying the
success of yuvvraaj's music, on the other hand i saw in
boxofficeindia.com you asked it section which says yuvvraaj's music
is not doing well, can we know the real music sale figures, i am
posting the question and answer about yuvvraaj below

Q. What are the expectations from Yuvvraaj and what will opening be
like?

A. Yuvvraaj is a big film so expectations are huge but opening may
not be upto the mark as the music is not a big success at the moment
and the promotion has not been very strong.

Most of these guys have been made by Rahman or he has been inspiration to them.
They have grown up listening to ARR. So If ARR would have made entry this yr,

[arr] Los Angeles Times say "Jai Ho" is strong contender for oscar

2008-11-18 Thread Vinod Raju

There are lots of other Disney songs this year too. There's "Down to
Earth" from "Wall-E," which is sung by Peter Gabriel (over the end
credits, alas). And four tunes are being campaigned from "High School
Musical 3: Senior Year" — "I Want It All," "A Night to Remember,"
"Scream," and "Can I Have This Dance?" According to new academy
rules, only two tunes from a film may be nominated, down from three
last year.

Assuming two "High School Musical 3" songs get in, there are lots of
other strong contenders this year too, such as "Jai Ho" — the joyous
grand finale of "Slumdog Millionaire." There's also Bruce
Springsteen's "The Wrestler" from the Mickey Rourke film of the same
name, Will.i.am's "Traveling Song" from "Madagascar: Escape 2
Africa," Jennifer Hudson's "All Dressed Up in Love" from "Sex and the
City," Alicia Keys' and Jack White's "Another Way to Die" from
"Quantum of Solace" and Jamie Cullum's song co-written with Clint
Eastwood for "Gran Torino."

2008-11-18 Thread nazeef mohammed
Delhi Concert was perhaps closest to my heart for various reasons!! :)

Well, singers/musicians boast of having worked with Rahman.
Directors and Producers feel priveledged to have Rahman as part of their
projects. I think, we can be proud to be "fans close to Rahman's heart"!
Evidence-grand : Delhi concert Dedication to the Yahoo fan club.

One side, where this group is going nowhere with non productive and
unhealthy discussions, sometimes hurting the man were supposed to be in love
with, sometimes getting personal-yet there remains good things in the group
as well. We are close to ARR. We can have good discussions. We can accept
what is given to us as music, the extent to which you like it is personal
and your own.

A cry to all those members who really blv in what I say. Im not naming
anyone here, but atleast for ARR's sake, who loves this group, who smiles
when we say "Yahoo Group" , lets be good, healthy, non judgemental and group
happy of "young and old" fans of AR.

Lets be proud, to be a part of this place.
PS: Gops, anyways we can get some benefits from Yahoo??

2008-11-18 Thread Prabhu Rajagopal
M.I.A. is a British artiste , and her family is Sri Lankan Tamil. Maybe that
is a reason she is not famous in India?

She is becoming increasingly famous throughout Europe, her music as well is
quite experimental dancehall stuff, the kind of music that gets nightclubs
going in London and the continent.. I read about her visiting ARR's studio
some years back and was really curious. She makes fantastic music , and like
Stevan says, incomprehensible lyrics mostly :-).In her album Kala, the
booklet (as for any artiste these days) has a list of acknowledgements..
after buying the cd and reading "A.R.Rehuman" among her thanks notes I was
really positively surprised!!

RE: [arr] Re: ~~ARRchennaifans~~ Re: Chennai ARR fans - shifting to next spectrum of social service

2008-11-18 Thread S, Karthik
I have seen in IR group (Kamal Aakash can vouch) that they meet frequently in
some city and discuss about IR music. People present papers and research works.
One of my very close friends who is an ardent IR fan has visited one such
meeting.

I wish to take part in ARR fans meet and I would say that we can have our own
agenda. Only thing is we need to consider the following to slowly establish the
legacy of ARR.

1. We need to seriously start researching ARR's music and find his nuances.
Document them. Say for example ARR's period films, how is that it is different
from rest of the others and his own. What elements he brings in?

2. How does ARR manage great Post leuds and Preleuds. I am a mad fan of his
post leuds. The way he ends "YUhi chala chal rahi" or "Thee kurivi" song are
just droplets in the ocean.

3. How does ARR manage his music for different cultures with in India and now
accross world. ?

4. How does ARR employ classical music in his composition? Carnati and
Hindustani to large extend.

There can be numerous topics in which we can come prepared and talk and present
research papers. Only thing is some one needs to do this organizing task
diligently.

Regards,
Karthik

an impression that other form of music is a sin. And film songs didn't
attract me at all even after multiple hearing.Classical music was everything

all my conventions. After hearing it i got a broad vision about the scope of
film music. For me, Rahman's music was like a 'Welcoming breakup'.

I Want The Slumdog Millionaire Soundtrack Now

Last week I saw Slumdog Millionaire, and it was incredible. I do not say that
very often about
movies, and am not a film buff by any means. But I think if I did and I was, I
would still say
it about this one. Not only was the film incredible, but so was the music. The
soundtrack
(which does not yet exist in the consumer sense) features an original score of
songs by AR
Rehman. Rehman has written and/or sang pretty much all of the great Bollywood
songs in recent
years (including one of my favs from Dil Se…). That just reminded me; I’ve
never seen the end
of Om Shanti Om.

Anyway, since seeing Slumdog Millionaire, I have been trying to track down the
song “O…Saya.”
It was towards the beginning of the film and featured M.I.A. on vocals along
with Rehman. It’s
effing great. I read about the song on Pitchfork the day after, and began
scouring the internet
for the song (and finally found at least a tracklisting on Yahoo Movies). All I
could manage to
find was this clip from the film on Youtube featuring “O…Saya”, and I hope it
is enough to
convey the shear incredibleness.

M.I.A. is not featured in this clip, but if i track down the full mp3, I will
post it with the
quickness! I would tell you to see this movie simply to hear this song, but I
think you shold
see it anyway.

[arr] Why people say 'ARR is not as good as before'

2008-11-18 Thread V S Rawat
A recent criticism on ARR's recent offering has come up that means 'ARR
is not as good as before'.

Why do people say that?

Could it be something like Doppler effect in which sound of a
approaching or receding vehicle doesn't change but it is our ears and
mind playing tricks on us that make us "hear" a changing sound, and even
physics has given a good scientific explanation for that.

First, I concede that ARR is changing. His previous music took time to
grow whereas several of his recent offerings are quite likable after
first few hearing, and some even likable in very first hearing.

So, I think ARR has found the way to reduce the "growing" phase in his
music. Now, he is adding enough elements that would make the music
likable in the very first, or after the first few hearings.

That is a good development, I think, because previously, several people
were writing away ARR's music when they didn't like it in the first few
hearings and they were not inclined to go through the "growing" phase. I
think that with the current instantly-likable music, ARR would earn more
praise and more fans. That would be very welcome.

but, why are ARR's devoted fans saying that 'ARR is not as good as before'?

Could it be something like Doppler effect in which sound of a
approaching or receding vehicle doesn't change but it is our ears and
mind playing tricks on us that make us "hear" a changing sound, and even
physics has given a good scientific explanation for that.

I think that is the the point here.

People change. People grow. Their perspective grows wider. They get
involved in more complex things.

A teenager could listen to music endlessly, but when he goes to college
or for higher studies, he has to maintain a strict schedule in these
days of tough competion, and that would restrict how much time he can
devote to listening to music.

Then, he gets jobs and he has to bloddy be in the office on the dot and
stay there for nine hours otherwise his boss will fry him alive. And,
then he gets tired, has less time left to attend to other important
things, and music's priority sinks lower and lower.

Then, he gets married, and wife and then kids become first priority.

And, going through all this, he gets transformed, metamorphed from a
carefree fan of ARR to a person in whose life there are several things
really more important than ARR's music.

--

Now, if you have read seven habits of highly effective people, the book
beautifully describes a very important trick the mind plays.

What are your priorities in life?
- ARR's music?

Noway, Roti, Kapda, Makan are first priorities.

But, even the famous "Roti, Kapda, Makan" priorities didn't mention that
we can live without Roti for a day or two, we can live naked, we can
live without makan, but we need Water first, and we need air to breathe
even before that.

But this oft-quoted priorities didn't mention Water and Air because they
assumed that these two priorities (water and air) would always be fulfilled.

If you are sitting in a room sitting about priorities, and entire air of
the room is removed, what would be your first priority? Air.

But, air is always there so that never becomes a priority to worry about.

Unfulfilled priorities are real priorities. Fulfilled priorities don't
motivate.

That is what is playing also about ARR's music.

And, if you enjoy something of a particular level, you would need higher
level offering next time to get the same level of enjoyment.

You really laugh on a joke only once. If you hear it again and again,
you get irritated. After you have heard a song of ARR a 100 times of a
1000 times, it is no more enjoyable, at least doesn't give you
goosepimples that it was giving in first few hearings.

ARR gave great music 10-15 years ago, and you were younger, you were
having less commitments and worries, so you enjoyed ARR's that music
like anything, for days and week and months to end.

Now, it is you who are busy, who is having several other priorities, you
have enjoyed great music by ARR earlier, and now you need much much much
better music to get the same level of enjoyment.

And, ARR has limitation on the improvements he can bring with each
album. What you expect from ARR is not what he can deliver. If his music
is 5% improved with each new release, you expect him to give 30%, 50%
improvement with each album, that he is not able to deliver as a human
being. There are same instruments, same techniques. There is a limit on
how much improvement can be brought.

I think that described why even ARR's fans are saying 'ARR is not as
good as before'.

It's OK. It happens. It is their life and mind playing tricks on them
that they are holding ARR responsible for.
