[arr] Masakalli English Translation

2009-01-05 Thread Aaditya(Addy) *COOL*
Yes, It is the name of the pigeon if you follow the song along with lyrics you
will come to know that it is describing about the pigeon. What do you mean by
'Matakali'? Lyrics goes on like this:
"Eh Masakali fly like Matakali. Please flatter your wings and let the dust go
away. Fly in every tribal corners of the city. Fly and fulfil your wishes. Meet
the air and fly in style, you are the king in air (not exactly the King, heera
panna means precious stone). Eh Masakali fly like Matakali." Please correct me
and send in proper English Translation.

I think that 'Masakalli' means 'Masti ki kalli' and 'Matakkalli'
means 'Matak ne wali kali'. And I also think that masakalli would be
the name of the pigeon (sonam kapoor's pet in the movie). Plz don't

Excellent song though and lyrics make it very interesting song. I can't
stop myself from listenin it again and again and again... Our boss

[arr] The Underrated Series - H Sridhar(Master of Sound Mixing and Audiography)

2009-01-05 Thread Vithur
The Underrated Series - H Sridhar(Master of Sound Mixing and Audiography)

iView Author: *SRIDHAR MAYUR *(Hyderabad, India)

Email: *With Held*

*" The Underrated Series - H Sridhar(Master of Sound Mixing and
Audiography)" *

First my condolences to the family of H Sridhar. He passed away on 01 Dec'08
due to cardiac arrest. This article is a tribute to the master of sound
mixing and audiography. He engineered the correct sound equilibrium to the
songs and hence made sound eloquent. His contribution and work in
Audiography is commendable and has set standards which are unmatched.

H. Sridhar, (Sridhar Hariharan/H.Padmanabh) was a sound engineer famous for
his works which garnered acclaim across the nation and won him pretigious
awards for his incredible work. He had pioneered the use of Digital Sound
for Indian films in the DTS format. He was the Chief Audio Engineer at Media
Artists(India's premier and most sought after studio for both album
recordings and audio post-production for film and video). He was a
mathematics graduate, with keen interest in electronics and formal music
training, he started a professional sound engineering career in 1988.

Among Sridhar's many professional credits was the fact that he engineered
all songs and background scores for the renowned music director A R Rahman.
On most of A.R Rahman's audio covers, the top billing among technicians
would be H.Sridhar and his Media Artists. It was Mani Ratnam who introduced
him to A R Rahman and together the duo has produced outstanding music. Take
a look at some of their best of picks - Roja, Gentleman, Kadhalan, Thiruda
Thiruda, Bombay, Duet, Mahanadi, Rangeela, Kuruthippunnal, Muthu, Indian,
Minsaara Kanavu and Iruvar. Most of these were recorded in Panchathan
Recording Inn (Rahman's own recording studio ), Madras. He had engineered
over 200 films and worked closely with Manirathnam, Ram Gopal Varma,
Ashutosh Gowarikar, K Balachander, Shankar, Kamal Haasan, etc.

He also engineered and mixed albums for international artists. Some* of his
Hindi film works(apart from the ones mentioned above) include Satya (1998),
Dil Se (1998), Pukar (2000), Lagaan(2001), Dil Chahta Hai (2001) (final
mixing) , Saathiya (2002), Meenaxi: Tale of 3 Cities (2004), Water (2005),
Guru (2007), Critically Acclaimed - Dharam (2007) , Cheeni Kum (2007) and
Jodhaa Akbar (2008).

Sridhar was awarded the The National Award for Best Audiography four times,
the films are:

1. Mahanadi(Tamil) in 1994
2. Dil Se (1999)
3. Lagaan (2001)
4. Kannathil Muththamittal(Tamil) in 2003

The Music for Mahanadi was composed by the 'meastro' Ilayaraja amd for the
other films it was A R Rahman.

Now, for a peek into the genius.Till now you've been listening to the songs
like a A R Rahman song, now get a little in-depth and check out the mixing
and the overlapping of sounds and instrumentation in the songs. Give your
ears a different angle…Go for it…

*1. Roja - Pudhu vellai mazhai*

*2. Alaipayuthey - Sakhiye Snehidiye(The Original 'Saathiya')*

*
3. Rang De Basanti - Ru Ba Ru*

Whenever I listen to this song…something happens…I feel very
emotional….something very close-to kinda feeling creeps
in(this is just my bit)

*4. Jodha Akbaar - Khwaja Mere Khwaja*

Thats H Sridhar!! Immortal, just like his songs!!

Hope when you listen to some of these songs in future, you will think of H
Sridhar….and his work….

Thanks and Regards

[arr] Happy Birthday A.R.Rahman! - Galatta.com

2009-01-05 Thread Vithur
*

Happy Birthday A.R.Rahman! *
Vijayalakshmi Sridhar [January 6, 2009, 10:53:38 AM]

Today is a very special day for music lovers. It is the birthday of
A.R.Rahman, one of the most talented music composers of Tamil cinema.

>From being Dileep, son of Shekar ,a composer/conductor in Malayalam cinema
to A.R. Rahman, the most sought-after music director, his rise was
phenomenal.

Rahman's association with music began very early, when in school he took up
a part-time vocation as a keyboard player and arranger in private rock
bands. The effect and prospect of mixing and presenting various sounds for
the concerts kindled his curiosity. The vast potential of music lured him to
test its combination with technology and such an interest sparked off the
beginning of his journey into the world of composing. With verve to
master the nuances and technicalities of music, he subsequently enrolled for
proper training from Master Dhanraj Pillai.

At age 11, he joined music director Ilayaraja's troupe as a keyboardist.
Simultaneously, he also played in several music directors' troupes and
toured the world with great concert performers such as Zakir Hussain,
L.Vaidyanathan and Ramesh Naidu. While treasuring all these varied and
valuable experiences, Rahman graduated from Trinity College of Music, London
in western classical music and in 1991, he opened his recording studio in
Chennai and began composing music for jingles and documentary film strips.

Maniratnam's *Roja* marked his entry into the world of cinema. *Roja* won
the National award and A.R. Rahman stepped into the limelight. A string of
successes followed. *Lagaan, Kannathil Muthamittal, Bombay, Karuthamm
*and*Indira
* are a few among the many. His music created a new trend, scaled
astonishing heights of appreciation and grew to become a sensation. Rahman's
speciality lies in his experimentation. His is a well-knit combination of
technology and art. The songs he compose illustrate the distinctly rich
aspects of music, yet carries a lot of contemporary motifs. The result of
this accomplishment is a production of mind-freshening masterpieces
comprising melodies, raps and hip-hops.

Films aside, Rahman has also worked in a diverse variety of projects. He has
toured the world several times and has worked with several musical stalwarts
and legends. Many cross-over movies and Hollywood productions such as
Shekhar Kapoor's *Elizabeth-The Golden Age, Slumdog Millionairre* too add
exclusivity to his career.

Rahman is a prestigious winner of many National and International awards. *
Roja*, his musical debut got listed in TIME's 'Top 10 musical Soundtracks of
the year'. The recently-launched KM Music Conservatory, Rahman's own musical
label has taken his dreams to the next level. Rahman's vision is to compose
and present world-class orchestra here.

Beyond and above his musical talent, it is Rahman's distinguishing modesty
that warms up the hearts of the listeners and fans worldwide. Almost every
time he receives an award or accolade we have seen him attributing it to the
great Almighty. 'Ella Pughazhum Iraivanukke' is Rahman's most popular and
most-liked prelude to his public speeches.

Rahman is married to Saira Bhanu and the couple are blessed with three
children Kadhija, Rahim and Aman. May the 'Mozart of Madras' blessed with
the best in his life! Happy Birthday Rahman!

[arr] Chitramala Team salutes and wishes A. R. Rahman a magnificent birthday….

2009-01-05 Thread Vithur
Easily the most successful Indian musician to go global, A. R. Rahman turns
43 today. Having started his career in tinsel town with Mani Ratnam's 1992
film 'Roja', the talented Rahman has literally taken the world by storm with
his magnificent orchestration and apt music.

A major strength of this musical wizard is the art of fusing many styles of
music to produce an end result that is so very soothing and energizing with
the desired mood…. an incredible ability and yet something that A. R. Rahman
does quite naturally. Apart from his millions of Indian fans who shower
accolades on him by the hour, Rahman's incredible talent had attracted the
attention of the famed TIME Magazine which referred to him as the 'Mozart of
Madras'.

Born as A. S. Dileep Kumar in the year 1966 in Chennai, the young lad has
always been associated with music, thanks to his family. Losing his father
at the tender age of nine, young Dileep's family was involved in renting out
musical instruments. In the late 1970s his family converted to Islam and
Dilip Kumar became Allah Rakkha Rahman.

Passionate about music all the time, young Rahman worked his way up to the
recognition level by composing jingles for commercials, working on the
background scores for documentaries and television programs. The big break
came his way when Mani Ratnam approached him for the film 'Roja'. A seldom
talked about fact is that A. R. Rahman is the recipient of the prestigious
Rajat Kamal Award for Best Music Director at the National Film Awards. He
received this award on debut. Such an instance was never heard of before.

A musical genius was born. All spotlights were turned on him and scores of
Tamil films followed. 'Puthiya Mugam', 'Gentleman', 'Kizhakku Cheemayile',
'Uzhvan', 'Thiruda Thiruda', 'Duet', 'May Maadham', 'Kadhalan', 'Bombay'
etc. Almost all the songs that featured in these films went on to become big
time chartbusters. A. R. Rahman had taken the world of Tamil Cinema by storm
with his magnificent style of music. The musical genius was bestowed with an
appropriate title 'Isai Puyal' (musical storm).

Soon after, Bollywood came knocking on his doors and A. R. Rahman's tunes in
the blockbuster 'Rangeela' set the whole of India dancing to his tunes
gleefully. The 'Mozart of Madras' started to spell magic with every single
outing and he had become hot property.

Minsara Kanavu (Tamil), Kabhi Na Kabhi (Hindi), Fire (Hindi), 'Kadhal
Desam', 'Jeans' (Tamil), 'Taal' (Hindi), 'Padayappa', 'Kadhalar Dinam'
(Tamil), 'Lagaan' (Hindi), 'The Legend of Bhagat Singh' (Hindi), 'Boys'
(Tamil), 'Warriors of Haven and Earth' (Mandarin & Japanese), 'Rang De
Basanti' (Hindi), 'Sillunu Oru Kadhal' (Tamil), 'Ayutha Ezhuthu / Yuva'
(Tamil / Hindi), Elizabeth: The Golden Age' (English), 'Jodha Akbar', 'Jaane
Tu Ya Jaane Na' (Hindi), Sakkarakatti (Tamil), 'Yuvvraaj', 'Ghajini'
(Hindi), 'Slumdog Millionaire' (English) etc. have all rocked audiences. A.
R. Rahman had become a world phenomenon by now….A. R. Rahman's international
recognition for the English film 'Slumdog Millionaire' is simply
outstanding. The Los Angeles Film Critics Award, New York Online Film
Critics Award, International Press Academy Satellite Award, Black Reel Award
and the San Diego Film Critics Award.

A. R. Rahman has been nominated for the Golden Globe Awards for 'Slumdog
Millionaire' and also at the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award.
Results are awaited….but Rahman is expected to win these as well.

The music wizard has many films up his sleeve and they include 'Asokavanam'
(Tamil), 'Puli' (Telugu), 'Sultan: the warrior' and 'Endhiran' (Tamil).

Apart from movies, Rahman is also known for his albums that have gone on to
break collection records. 'Vande Mataram', a patriotic album that was
composed in the 1997 to commemorate India's fiftieth year of Independence is
something every patriotic Indian cherishes close to his or her heart.

Going by the host of recognition this incredible talent is receiving, the
Oscars might not be far away. We surely have a genius in our backyard who is
sought after internationally. Let's hope A. R. Rahman continues to do what
he does masterfully – sway our hearts with his enthralling music.

Chitramala Team salutes and wishes A. R. Rahman a magnificent birthday….

[arr] Best score/soundtrack of the year goes to Slumdog Millionaire by A.R. Rahman, hands down

2009-01-05 Thread $ Pavan Kumar $
Sound Off: Best Movies Scores of 2008 - What Are Your Favorites?
January 5, 2009
by Alex Billington

I love movie scores. And even the best ones sadly never get mentioned enough.
So as a way of highlighting some of the very best movies scores of last year, I
thought I'd start this discussion today. I was heavily inspired by
ScoreKeeper's Top 10 Best Scores Of 2008, which just hit this morning, because
it features a very odd yet respectable list of great soundtracks. I won't spoil
his top choice (you can find the list below), but it's definitely something
that no one was expecting. As for my own favorite scores, well, where do I
begin? Most recently I was quite fond of John Ottman's score for Valkyrie, but
besides that, there are quite a few good ones to choose from. Before I get to
my own list, let's look at what ScoreKeeper chose.
We'll kick this off by checking out his list before we get into mine. You can
read all of his in-depth write ups on his choices over on Ain't It Cool News.
Could anyone have predicted these choices?
10. Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer by Ryan Shore [Amazon or iTunes]
9. Burn After Reading by Carter Burwell [Amazon or iTunes]
8. The Substitute by Marco Beltrami
7. Cloverfield by Michael Giacchino [iTunes]
6. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by Alexandre Desplat [Amazon or iTunes]
5. The Visitor by Jan A.P. Kaczmarek [Amazon or iTunes]
4. Let the Right One In by Johan Söderqvist [iTunes]
3. Wall-E by Thomas Newman [Amazon or iTunes]
2. Appaloosa by Jeff Beal [Amazon or iTunes]
1. Speed Racer by Michael Giacchino [Amazon or iTunes]
First off, I also loved that Speed Racer score. Giacchino is a musical genius
and his recent work ("Lost", "Fringe", Ratatouille, Speed Racer) proves it. No
wonder J.J. Abrams hired him to do the score for the new Star Trek. As much as
I love Giacchino's work, however, my top pick for best score/soundtrack of the
year goes to Slumdog Millionaire by A.R. Rahman [Amazon or iTunes], hands down.
It's closely followed by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard's The Dark Knight
[Amazon or iTunes], which was a brilliant enhancement to the Batman Begins
score. Yes, I legitimately own both of these soundtracks (including that $50
special edition version of The Dark Knight) and listen to them a lot while
working.
Other favorite scores from this year include In Bruges by Carter Burwell
[Amazon or iTunes], which makes at least two great Burwell scores in one year.
Another great soundtrack that featured numerous eclectic styles was Synecdoche,
New York by Jon Brion [Amazon or iTunes]. I also loved the score for Milk by
Danny Elfman [Amazon or iTunes], which was a perfect fit for one of my favorite
films. I've also got to mention Quantum of Solace by David Arnold [Amazon or
iTunes], which I thought was another top notch action movie score, even though
I'm not sure too many others agree. And lastly, the music in Dear Zachary,
which was written by director Kurt Kuenne as well, was quite beautiful.
So there we have it. I've named every last movie score I can remember from this
year that I loved. So now it's up to you, as I'm sure there are a few I'm
forgetting. So, what are your favorite scores from 2008?

I think its the camera effect and the nostalgic memories that the scene
creates which gives that effect.

Very much Ratnam types.

very true

Re: [arr] Best sites to order ARR CDs in the US?

2009-01-05 Thread nivensamy

For hindi ones, i would recommend www.induna.com. They also have a
filter for Rahman works.

They deliver thru DHL express. Very good response by mail and phone
too. I have made 4 orders till now with around 30 cd/dvd and totally
satisfied.

Only downside is no tamil works.

[arr] Delhi 6 music on Jan 14?

Someone in Orkut mentioned Jan 14 as the release date for D6 music as
advertised on B4U. Anyone confirm? On the other hand, with the
recent string of delays from rumored dates surrounding music release
dates for ARR albums, maybe it's best left not to know, hence not to
expect, lest be disappointed again.

[arr] Slumdog Millionaire - Addictive TV remix

2009-01-05 Thread Vinod Raju
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXmmwK971V0

Created by London based "Addictive TV" as per the request of Slumdog
Millionaire's producers and director Danny Boyle.

Addictive TV remix of Slumdog Millionaire - an alternative web
trailer for "Slumdog Millionaire", created by sampling sounds and
images from the film and producing something entirely new made from
only those audiovisual samples. Before the beat kicks in, the whole
intro is purely AV, the music being made from only the looped images
you see.

"It's great Pathé are taking a lead in the independent film sector
like this, and sharing our vision of film remixing," says Addictive
TV front man Graham Daniels. "With our style of work, Slumdog
Millionaire is an amazing film to play with, it's so cinematic and
evocative in both sound and picture, it's really colourful and
vibrant, and with Danny Boyle known for his cutting edge approach to
music and film, making this kind of remix for his movie seems like a
natural fit."

The Gold Rush

As you read this AR Rahman will be winging his way to California for the Golden
Globe Award ceremony

By Subhash K Jha

A R Rahman • The Golden Globe awards are a precursor to the Oscars…

I
have my fingers crossed. When a film with my music gets acceptance the
feeling is akin to winning an Oscar. An Oscar is a big thing for the
people of India. So for their sake more than mine I hope my song ‘Jai
ho’ and the music score in Slumdog Millionaire win an Oscar.
• Your music is ‘making the world go round’?

It's
not my music alone. It’s the way Danny Boyle has patched Slumdog
Millionaire and my music together. The way he has mixed my songs is
terrific; like a discotheque. If the music has created an impact in the
West it’s because of the effective projection.

Slumdog
Millionaire is about suffering, hope and redemption. The jury loved the
Mumbai shown in the film. I don’t think any other city in the world has
been portrayed as vibrantly. Mumbai’s pulse is superbly captured in the
film. The film promotes Mumbai tourism to a great extent
• You visited the US recently. Was it to lobby for your music?

It’s
not about lobbying. The purpose was to get acquainted with the jury
members. The jury should know if the person behind the creation is
worth the vote.As an artiste I need to be recognised on a human level.
So I went to Hollywood with my song ‘Jai ho’. I met the top Hollywood
composers like Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore and Danny Elfman.
• What was their opinion?

They
had warm comments for my music in Slumdog Millionaire. LA is a place
where people in the entertainment industry say a lot of things they
don’t mean. So I thought they were just being sweet and polite. So I
verified. I found that those biggies of Hollywood genuinely meant
everything that they said. Some critics said it’s one of the best films
they’ve ever seen. Although some of the songs are in Hindi, nobody said
that they were boring or incomprehensible. ‘Jai ho’, ‘O saya’ and
‘Ringa ringa’ (which is influenced by ‘Choli ke peeche’) are in Hindi
which is a foreign language for the Americans. But they love them.
• You turn 43 today (January 6). What are your birthday plans?

I won’t be celebrating my birthday as it’s the eighth day of Muharram (a month
of mourning).

composers like Hans Zimmer, Howard Shore and Danny Elfman.
•What was their opinion?

They
had warm comments for my music in Slumdog Millionaire.
•You turn 43 today (January 6). What are your birthday plans?

I won’t be celebrating my birthday as it’s the eighth day of Muharram (a month
of mourning).

Re: [arr] Best sites to order ARR CDs in the US?

2009-01-05 Thread Anil Nair
Paul,
Though there seems to be no site which is perfectly organized and has ARR
music cataloged clearly, I would suggest the following

http://store.nehaflix.com/
Search for A R Rahman and you should get quite a lot of ARR music in there

Amazon US also has quite a good collection of ARR CD's though some of them
might be from private sellers and so not sure how reliable those are.

These are the 2 online sources I know of. Lets wait to hear from others and
folks around the Chicago area.

[arr] Best sites to order ARR CDs in the US?

2009-01-05 Thread Paul Audino
Hello -

Happy New Year to you all and happy birthday to A.R. Rahman!

I've been lurking on the list for a while now, and my new year's
resolution is to try to stay current with all of the (many!) messages on
the list. I have admired the music of A.R. Rahman ever since hearing
the album /Vande Mataram/ in 1997. In 2007 I had the pleasure of seeing
him live at the Sears Centre near Chicago and it was a truly amazing
show. Until now I have not been a regular viewer of Indian cinema -
though I love the work of Satyajit Ray - but after seeing /Slumdog
Millionaire /I've decided to explore Rahman's soundtrack work in much
more depth. I would like to become much more knowledgeable about ARR's
soundtracks (and their films) as they are released and not just his
artist albums and greatest hits.

I am wondering if someone could recommend the best places to shop online
for mail order delivery in the United States. As I am based in Chicago,
I would love to know about any local retailers in the area as well. I
apologize if this topic has been discussed numerous times - I tried to
do some searches in the group archives but didn't see much.

Thank you in advance!

Audience reactions were positive especially during Behka songs. Song
picturisation was simply superb. I heard some people appreciating soon
after the "RUN" BGM . BGM was world class. Some people were laughing at
fighting scenes. Asin acting was good, Aamir rocked. But it was Rahman show all
the way for me. I saw people unmoved during Guzarish, Behka and Kaise
Mujhe(first one) songs. As soon as I came out of cinema hall there were mixed
responses from people.

I had the pleasure of listening to the whole album through my friends
phone - got the Nokia 5800 delivered day before. The best tracks are
the instrumentals - silent invocation A,B,C are absolutely marvelous.
Infact Jiya se Jiya seems to be the least interested once the album is
heard.

Interesting aspect - file format are .dcf extensions and solely
linked to the Nokia phone purchased... .also the 5800 has a Line-out
feature which enables us to hook it up to an amplifier for better
quality. Ofcourse I haven't tested this feature out completely.. .since
I don't own the phone.

but for ppl living in mumbai (i live in andheri (west))absolute ly
welcome to come listen to it at my place. send me a txt at 97693-33443.

[arr] Radio Choklate dates A R Rahman on birthday

2009-01-05 Thread Vithur
Oriya FM station Radio Choklate has designed Taal Se Taal Mila, a special
programme on the occasion of composer singer A R
Rahman's
birthday on 6 January.

This programme, a brainchild of RJ Som and Khirod, is a special four hour
musical package on air, dedicated to Rahman's music, compositions, his
instruments, his songs, his movies. The programme celebrates the journey of
Rahman from his childhood to this day.

In order to tap his huge fan following, special contests have been crafted
on each show, with huge life size posters as gifts to his fans by Radio
Choklate.

Radio Choklate is also holding a grand concert in the heart of the twin
cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Choklate will give a platform to Rahman's
fans to come on stage and sing Rahman's immortal numbers along with the best
singers of Orissa's movie industry.

To commemorate the living legend on his birthday in true 'choklaty' spirit,
a huge piano will be placed on stage with life size cutouts of Rahman to
make people feel his presence with his live bytes being played in the
background. A huge cake in the shape of 42, Rahman's age, and weighing 104
kg (depicting the station's frequency) will be cut by the smallest fan
present on stage and distributed to the audience.

Re: [arr] The Bollywood music scene '08

2009-01-05 Thread Vithur
Bollywood saw over 100 big budget releases this year, there were songs which
got us instantly hooked and there were those overhyped musicals or music
scores which fell flat. Out of the huge number of releases, few had songs
that were timeless. We wonder, did Bollywood give us music that we can
recall and relive again and again?

Unfortunately, from the long list of films released under Bollywood, and the
long list of 'tracks' that came with those films, there wasn't much the
songs delivered sparing a few 20 tracks. The songs lacked creative quality
and most importantly – timelessness. The 2008 trend was peppy, fast paced
music – it didn't matter if the lyrics made sense or the tunes repetitive.
Without doubt we can call 2008 Bollywood's 'peppy-beat-era's' inception
year.

However, there were few composers who we could count on to fulfil our
musical cravings and A R Rahman tops the list – the undisputed King. Though
Rahman received the Golden Globe, many felt it was too late – probably the
westerners had not heard the 'Mozart of India' before. SEL gave us on Rock
On, and duo Vishal Shekhar surprised with their year end release Dostana.
Kailash–Naresh – Paresh seemed to be the most promising composers and Amit
Trivedi's calming 'Ek Lau' came out as one of the best scores of the year.

So who offered what for the listeners to cherish? Let's have a look.

*Rahman, the undisputed King of 2008*

As far as composers go, Rahman tops the list with albums likes Jodhaa Akbar,

Yuvvraaj. Though Yuvvraaj didn't garner much at the box office, the man
behind the music had nothing to worry about – he won the Golden globe for
Slumdog Millionaire. Towards the year-end, Rahman came with Ghajini. The
music for this film was far more 'experimental' compared to his earlier
releases. It's interesting to note that the songs that caught on like wild
fire (Jashn-E-Bahaara, Aditi, Pappu Cant Dance) were sung by new comers –
there are many new voices that Rahman introduced this year – Benny Dayal,
Karthik, Vijay Prakash and Rashid Ali.

Is anybody here know a place, where I can listen to the station online/live?

If it's not possible, anybody in India please record the entire event,

I think Autobiographies are written when a person is past his peak,
when

he has achieved what he had set out to achieve, and when he has a

message to give to the forthcoming generations.

I think ARR is still not past the above three criteria. He is still

going strong, and he has still to achieve a lot. He has done great so

far, but he is still one of so many MDs in India/ Tamil.

So, I think it is still premature for him to pen his biography. May be

we should wait till he gets his first oscar/ grammy.

[arr] Re: Mission Ustad Album Update

2009-01-05 Thread nishantsgarg
I personally liked the mixing of the two songs done by A.R. Rahman for
the Mission Ustad Album. But somehow I cannot even blame the other
music composers for not going with the mixed versions as they were
their compositions and they have full rights to object on this
alteration of songs. I hope they get a solution for this soon.

There is one more thing I would like to add to the album update is
that A.R. Rahman really liked the Bachpan song recorded by Mohit
Chauhan and Vasundra Das for the Mission Ustad Album which was
composed by Vipin Mishra.

http://www.radioand music.com/ content/year- ender/rewind- 08/the-bollywood
-music-scene- 08

Bollywood saw over 100 big budget releases this year, there were songs which
got us instantly hooked and there were those overhyped musicals or music scores
which fell flat. Out of the huge number of releases, few had songs that were
timeless. We wonder, did Bollywood give us music that we can recall and relive
again and again?
Unfortunately, from the long list of films released under Bollywood, and the
long list of 'tracks' that came with those films, there wasn't much the songs
delivered sparing a few 20 tracks. The songs lacked creative quality and most
importantly – timelessness. The 2008 trend was peppy, fast paced music – it
didn't matter if the lyrics made sense or the tunes repetitive. Without doubt
we can call 2008 Bollywood's 'peppy-beat- era's' inception year.
However, there were few composers who we could count on to fulfil our musical
cravings and A R Rahman tops the list – the undisputed King. Though Rahman
received the Golden Globe, many felt it was too late – probably the westerners
had not heard the 'Mozart of India' before.  SEL gave us on Rock On, and duo
Vishal Shekhar surprised with their year end release Dostana. Kailash–Naresh –
Paresh seemed to be the most promising composers and Amit Trivedi's calming 'Ek
Lau' came out as one of the best scores of the year.
So who offered what for the listeners to cherish? Let's have a look.
Rahman, the undisputed King of 2008
As far as composers go, Rahman tops the list with albums likes Jodhaa Akbar,
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Yuvvraaj, Ghajini and Slumdog Millionaire.  Rahman
experimented with genres and subjects of varied kinds. Be it the period film
Jodhaa Akbar, the youth centric Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na or the larger than life
Yuvvraaj. Though Yuvvraaj didn't garner much at the box office, the man behind
the music had nothing to worry about – he won the Golden globe for Slumdog
Millionaire. Towards the year-end, Rahman came with Ghajini. The music for this
film was far more 'experimental' compared to his earlier releases.  It's
interesting to note that the songs that caught on like wild fire
(Jashn-E-Bahaara, Aditi, Pappu Cant Dance) were sung by new comers – there are
many new voices that Rahman introduced this year – Benny Dayal, Karthik, Vijay
Prakash and Rashid Ali

SEL banks on Rock On
Shankar – Ehsaan- Loy's 'Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic' may not have clicked in the
earlier half of the year, but with Rock On, the trio cleared the mental block
that Bollywood deemed about 'Rock Music'. Farhan went a step ahead and got into
the skin of the character. Rock On also introduced Farhan Akhtar the director
as debutant singer and actor. Javed Akhtar could be seen experimenting with
words and moving away from the conventional. Believe it or not, the music for
this film was done in a record five days at the SEL's studio. Initially, the
music took time to grow and get accepted. However, it soon caught on – and
there was no stopping. SEL, at an individual level, are proficient musicians in
their own right. With Shankar's expertise in classical and carnatic music,
Ehsaan's rock music background and Loy's skills on the Keys as well as
programming, their music has developed a unique all rounded sound. Their
exposure to varied genres allows them to
shift genres at a drop of a hat. It was also heard that many music critics
re-reviewed Rock On's music after watching the film. This certainly makes for
India's best rock album.
Now the pulse is on their future projects: My Name is Khan, Chandni Chowk to
China, Delhi Belly and Luck by Chance.
Dostana-the must have album
Duo Vishal - Shekhar started the year with Bhoothnath and then Tashan. The
latter  failed at the box office, but the music did moderately well. Their next
was Ranbir-Deepika starrer Bachna Ae Haseeno, but unfortunately, that too had
just one track (Khuda Jaane) worth repeating. However, with Dostana the duo hit
the bulls-eye. One can call Vishal- Shekhar Bollywood's most efficient
'Hinglish' composers. Dostana had all the ingredients of Bollywood and offered
much more than just fancy beats – which was the ongoing trend then. Through fun
track 'Maa da Laadla' the duo introduced one of Punjab's well known talents
Saleem to bollwood. Besides this, songs like Desi Girl, radio friendly Khabar
Nahi and Vishal's poetic genius 'Kuch Kum' offered variety. Party track 'Shut
up & Bounce' and 'the-easy-to- hum' Jaane Kyun gripped listeners. The album had
all the songs which were in one word 'wor

Thanks for sharing the video. Dev D & Aamir's music was nothing short of
extra-ordinary. Rahman's influences are very evident in most of his songs.
Highly recommended.

[arr] The Bollywood music scene '08

2009-01-05 Thread $ Pavan Kumar $
http://www.radioandmusic.com/content/year-ender/rewind-08/the-bollywood-music-scene-08

Without doubt
we can call 2008 Bollywood's 'peppy-beat-era's' inception year.

Farhan went a step ahead and got into

up & Bounce' and 'the-easy-to-hum' Jaane Kyun gripped listeners. The album had
all the songs which were in one word 'workable', thus making it a must have
album of the year.
Promising composers: Kailash-Naresh-Paresh, Amit Trivedi and Sneha Khanvilkar
Kailash-Naresh-Paresh seemed to be one of the most promising composers of the
year. After Pranali, the trio's second film was Dasvidaniya Kailash Kher had
earlier tasted success in the non-film category thorugh his solo albums like Ya
