[arr] I make music with whatever is available - Sivamani | Semi ARR

2009-12-01 Thread Sreekrishnan R
http://www.indianexpress.com/news/Divine-Rhythms/548849/

Sivamani, who turned 50 yesterday, speaks about drumming, movies, music and more

He held the drumsticks at the age of seven. He knows A R Rahman from the time
the latter was 10-years-old. He
grew up watching his father playing drums. Just when you think, that
this is what he always wanted to be, he gives a modest reply, "It
wasn't me. It was God who wanted me to make music and give joy to
people."

That's Sivamani, percussionist par excellence, who
turned 50 yesterday. Known for creating music with anything and
everything, even between this particular interview, sitting at the
restaurant, he produces drum-like sounds using nothing but the tissue
paper holder. "It happens all the time at public places. People come to
me with requests of playing something for them and I can't say no to
them. So, I make music with whatever is available," he says.

If you read the CD again you will find that It's not Nokia
Connections...It's Universal's Connections - Totally different :-)

The songs which you are referring are only available with Nokia music
phones...

Thank you buddy! I liked your version of Gendha Phool especially...I felt
that the full length songs did slowdown the remix mood at places...I was
expecting a kind of twist while listening to Taxi but ended up hearing the
full song :-) Nevertheless, a great job bro!!! Keep treating us like this
every holiday season!

Fellas,

As always : Original is king.

A great year is coming to its close. What started with 2 Academy awards took AR
to a different plane. More awards, a Hollywood production, Live concerts and
what not. I hope 2010 will be as exiting as it has been so far.

Just as a mark of respect/happiness. I stitched together some his greatest 2009
hits as a non-stop session. I am sure we will find great occasions to play this
the whole of December!

So Party on his name and dance on to his grooves,non-stop :)

Masakali. I was totally blown by his arrangement and i added some warm elements

  I'm on tears..
Thanks Bros. for making it a great success.

Still can't believe that Sridhar Sir is not here with us.. just can't imagine.
We listen to him.. feel his divinity.. enjoy his incomparable skills, eah and
every moment.. Infact we listen to his own life story in the form songs and
scores who spent almost all of his life inside AM and Panchathan with AR than
his own family members. He's the one who listened AR's songs than our man
himself! Love you Sir.. Our Inspiration, Our Motivation, Our Teacher, Our Life!
Thanks for everything.. I know these words or the noble activites that we do
are not enough to praise you or to pay the tribute for what you've done to the
world of sound and music. We love you forever and for always, Sir.. Take a new

Subject: [arr] In Fond Memory of Sridhar Sir..

On the 28th of November, 11 of us(fans of AR) took time out of our
routine to Donate lunch to kids at an Orphanage in Chennai and spent some time
there. This was initiated in fond memory of the Great sound engineer Mr. H.
Sridhar, who passed away an year back.
The orphanage was a small one and managed by a trust by name, "Kaakum
Karangal". There were a total of 60 people taken care by the trust of which
there were 30 Boys, 20 Girls and 10 elderly people. We sponsored the day's
lunch for them and it was a special meal with sweets, and other savories.

We went there by about 1 in the afternoon. We thought we could serve, but as it
turned out they had a completely different system of service, a highly
disciplined and military style; the children were made to sit in 4 rows with
plates in their hand. And the food was kept at one end with 2 elderly people
serving it. The kids took their turns, in a very orderly fashion, to get the
food. They were served by the elders. After filling their plates they sat in
their place. Once they settled with the food, they gave a 2 minutes' prayer,
all reciting aloud. It was so good to witness 60 people saying out the prayer
aloud. Sent out so much positive vibes. :)

After that they sat there, happily eating. We could see that joy in their eyes
and that was joy to us. Food filling their stomach and our hearts.. This was
the perfect way to pay tribute to a genius like Sridhar sir, spreading joy in
his name..
He continues to live in all our Memories.. May his soul RIP.
Thanks & Regards,Rakesh R

[arr] ADA team waits for busy Rahman

2009-12-01 Thread Sriram Iyer
..

f things would have gone as planned by the makers of ADA...A WAY OF LIFE, the
film would have released in the middle of last year itself. However, due to
some unforeseen circumstances, the film continued to be delayed and is now
hitting the screens on 18th December.
One wonders how frustrating it was for the film's debut leading man Ayaan Ahmad
who had to wait for such a long period of time?

"Well, it's indeed a feeling of mixed reaction. I am glad though that finally
our effort would be out there for people to see. However, there is a nervous
thing to it. The movie did get a little delayed and something like that is
never welcome", says Ayaan who is paired opposite Nauheed Cyrusi (last seen in
KURBAAN) in the film.

When quizzed about the reason for delay, Ayaan divulges, "We were waiting for
A.R. Rahman to do the background score of the film. He was quite caught up with
SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE and quite a few other events pre and post Oscars. In fact
he was gracious enough to allow a different composer coming in but my dad
(Tanvir Ahmad) who has directed the movie wanted him only to do it."

Why did they choose this route when it was resulting in so much delay? After
all the soundtrack had already hit the stands and completion of background
score by another composer could have finished the job sooner.

"See, ADA is a musical journey and we didn't want to compromise by any means",
clarifies Ayaan, "According to me as well as others who have heard Rahman's
background score, it is one of his best works ever. After such a long wait when
I hear the score today, all my frustration goes away.

[arr] Beggining lines - Jai Ho

2009-12-01 Thread iucaa_hari
Is this what AR Rahman says(prerecorded I guess) before the Jai Ho concerts.

"Its gets me dizzy like being in the millde of a hurricane,
so many of you, your love, your energy, difficult for me to imbibe it all,
but on the other hand, it inspires which shall be my biggest help (?)

As i get older I see other points of you, things I wouldnt have noticed before.
If
music wakes you up makes you think, heals you, I guess the music is working.
And then a thought put in action in a positive way is a blessing thought. "

Dear Wiredbeats

You are a good "COOK" as you do know how to mix and match your ingredients to
dish out a good remix. ARR's songs are basically complicated due to their
multilayered design so remixing them to keep the flow and the sound clarity
intact is a difficult task indeed.

I am still fan of your Swades and Lagaan mix.

I remember long long long long time back Wassim-Kaissom also had showcased his
talent with good and tasty remixes. I am happy that you are continuing with
your presentation.

Continue the good work !

[arr] Tirumala Tirupati to call Rahman

2009-12-01 Thread Din, D, Nesh
Tirumala Tirupati to call Rahman
IndiaGlitz [Monday, November 30, 2009]

Possibly it must be the first time ever, if this happens. Of course music can
cross borders and this initiative shows that in front of the supreme power all
are equal and there are no differences like cast, religion, race and language.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), the trust that administers the temple
on the Tirumala Hills, has planned to rope in A R Rahman. You might wonder as
why will the Devasthanam should call Rahman? The answer is simple - They would
like the Oscar winner to compose Keertans for the traditional religious hymns.

Sources say that Rahman will be approached by the Devasthanam board members to
compose music for the songs penned by Telugu cum Sanskrit poet Tallapaka
Annamacharya, who belong to the 14th century, praising Lord Venkateswara. "Hope
Rahman would be lending his services for the Devasthanam," said an official.
It's worthy to mention that the musician was once a typical Hindu.

Though the musician had done a lot of special albums, this one must be
something very special, we say!

http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/52197.html

WOW!!! what a news! i hope ARR do compose for this album. And it would be a
dream come true for ARR to do atleast a song for Lord Shiva. Its my pala naal
kanave!!

Very much effort taken, Bro.. Words are not enough to thank you! :)

You are right. It's so difficult to rip the BGM's of an action movie. Voices
would be polluted ones.. Even in those A Cappelas the instruments' voices are
mixed together. So I guess it's the problem of the final mix for the DVD's.
There are so many leakages.

But there were some places where we could have avoided the entire BGM's with
the noises. Some parts are unwanted I feel. Some tricks can be used while
editing and mixing like editing out the similar portions on either channel and
copy pasting the other one which doesn't have the noise. Also editing out the
noise parts and then applying the cross fade to avoid the glitch when you join
the rest part. Likewise so many... It's fun.. using ideas, thus editing and
mixing all
 these BGM's.. right? :)

Keep up your great works, Bro.
Besties for the next project on your mind! :)

Love .

Indeed Bro.. The happiness of enjoying a work and getting a very nice output is
just out of world! Do more for us.. :)

And when you mix also, (just for the BGM rips, not a Pro Mix) if you are using
a very good editing or mixing software, pan the 5th and 6th channels to extreme
left and right and the other two to the middle, say half of the previous
setting OR according to your ears until it gets a surround feel, then the bass
channel to the center. it does give a beautiful surround feel in stereo.

And to make karaokes.. just like you make the bgm's, like remove the center
channel of the songs in the movie DVD's which has the voice only (a capella)
and mix the other 5 channels like how I said or using your logic, but with a
surround feel.. All the Best! :)

Welcome. Really appreciate your words:-)

Yup. I tried doing that for certain BGMs. Like for the punjabi rap bit. There
were bike noise. I And also for certain BGMs the unwanted sounds are in just
left or right. So, i replace it with audio from the other channel. But it
creates an unwanted mono sound. So, couldn't do that much. This is one reason I
get disappointed when AR takes up action movie. Even worse with Blue is it's
underwater movie. The entire movie there is breeze noise. Certain place i
removed it. Like in the movie's intro. Exactly. The quality in the final
products gives you the good feel that you have contributed something. And such
word motivates me to do more in the future:-)
