dream, breathe everything. The first time I heard it, I was like WTH is
this, but I have always liked ARR stuff that I hate initially as I tend to
love it later on. I just dont go on listening to it if I dont like, here is
what I do.

1) Listen initially for a couple of times, since most of the stuff is so
new, especially the structuring nothing comes to my lips.
2) Stop listening for a few days and then unknowingly I will start humming
something from the album.
3) So I go back to CD and listen again. At this point something registers in
mind and I start humming a few bits and pieces again.

thats it, I just repeat the step1 to step3 and it gets into me full time.

New Delhi: Former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee, Oscar-winning music
composer AR Rahman, US-based hotelier Sant Singh Chatwal and tennis captain
Leander Paes are being considered for the Padma awards this year.

Somnath Chatterjee and AR Rahman are likely to be given the Padma Vibhushan and
Paes the Padma Bhushan.

The list of awardees might be announced on Monday. According to sources, writer
Mahasweta Devi, veteran cinematographer Nemai Ghosh and painter Shuvaprasanna
are also being considered for the honours.

This is not the first time the UPA government is planning to bestow the award
on Chatterjee. It wanted to do so last year itself, but Chatterjee declined
saying it would not be appropriate for him to receive an award from the
executive as long as he was Lok Sabha speaker.

The honour will be another feather in the cap of AR Rahman, who won two Oscars
last year for best original music score and best song in Slumdog Millionaire.

The other possible Padma awardee is US-based controversial hotelier Sant Singh
Chatwal. He is among the movers and shakers of the NRI community in the US and
has powerful connections in the Democratic Party. He is extremely close to the
Clintons. Chatwal was, in fact, one of Hillary Clinton’s primary fundraisers
during her presidential bid. He also played an active role in drumming up
support for the Indo-US nuclear deal.

Chatwal has powerful political connections in the country and was instrumental
in persuading Bill Clinton to travel to Lucknow and attend a private lunch
hosted by a UP-based industrialist considered close to Mulayam Singh Yadav and
Amar Singh.

Leander Paes has been the country’s top tennis player for over a decade. He won
the bronze medal at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 and has won doubles titles at
Wimbledon, Australian Open and the US Open. He was given the Rajiv Gandhi Khel
Ratna in 1996.

Bharat ratna is too early for rahman considering he still has a lot of usefull
life remaining. He will now deliver even more.

In other words, rahman has just began his phase 2 where has started to bridge
the musical barriers and started to take indian music to real mainstream arena.

Let us support him in doing for for another decade or so and he will be
considered i am sure he will get the next tier of awards.

For now, padha bhushan is bang on time. Remember, of all the awards padma
awards are well selected.

don't have that luxury of honestly expressing what I felt. now that Vijay has
tried to put an end to it I would avoid to extend it. however still I feel that
this group is becoming a bunch of fanboys and yes men, who only want to see all
praises all the time. I feel really sorry for that and sorry for ARR too
because more than any good this attitude can do bad to him, as such blind fans
who discourage any type of healthy criticism can cause fall of any artist no
matter how big he/she is.
I also wonder why I have to constantly remind that I am as much a loyal and big
fan of him as everyone else here is, or may be more. but that certainly doesn't
mean that I lie and be a yes man. I am sure ARR also needs honest feedback and
that's what we all should try to do.

It would be nice if the Sydney concert DVD includes Best of all Jai Ho
concerts as some songs that were missing in Sydney, but performed in other Jai
Ho's can be included in the DVD.. In this case, the DVD can be titled as ARR's

TRACK RECORD

While Tamil music fans might be fast catching on to Omana Penne… (from
Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa), here’s a little secret about the number. The song
was originally slotted to be sung by none other than A R Rahman himself but
ultimately, it was the young and energetic Benny Dayal, who got to croon it.
Why’s that, we asked

the Oscar winner recently. “I was tired,” he laughs, and adds, “On a
serious note, I found my role as a singer in the Manipaaya… number better.”

After he recorded Benny’s version of the song, the composer decided to
retain it in the soundtrack. “Benny did a good job on the song,” states
Rahman, “So, that’s the version you listen to in the album.”

*New Delhi: *Former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee, Oscar-winning
music composer AR Rahman, US-based hotelier Sant Singh Chatwal and tennis
captain Leander Paes are being considered for the Padma awards this year.
Somnath Chatterjee and AR Rahman are likely to be given the Padma
Vibhushan and Paes the Padma Bhushan.
The list of awardees might be announced on Monday. According to sources,
writer Mahasweta Devi, veteran cinematographer Nemai Ghosh and painter
Shuvaprasanna are also being considered for the honours.
This is not the first time the UPA government is planning to bestow the
award on Chatterjee. It wanted to do so last year itself, but Chatterjee
declined saying it would not be appropriate for him to receive an award from
the executive as long as he was Lok Sabha speaker.
The honour will be another feather in the cap of AR Rahman, who won two
Oscars last year for best original music score and best song in *Slumdog
 Millionaire*.
The other possible Padma awardee is US-based controversial hotelier Sant
Singh Chatwal. He is among the movers and shakers of the NRI community in
the US and has powerful connections in the Democratic Party. He is extremely
close to the Clintons. Chatwal was, in fact, one of Hillary Clinton’s
primary fundraisers during her presidential bid. He also played an active
role in drumming up support for the Indo-US nuclear deal.
Chatwal has powerful political connections in the country and was
instrumental in persuading Bill Clinton to travel to Lucknow and attend a
private lunch hosted by a UP-based industrialist considered close to Mulayam
 Singh Yadav and Amar Singh.
Leander Paes has been the country’s top tennis player for over a decade. He
won the bronze medal at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 and has won doubles
titles at Wimbledon, Australian Open and the US Open. He was given the Rajiv
 Gandhi Khel Ratna in 1996.

this group is becoming a bunch of fanboys and yes men, who only want to see all

because more than any good this attitude can do bad to him, as such blind fans
who discourage any type of healthy criticism can cause fall of any artist no
matter how big he/she is.
I also wonder why I have to constantly remind that I am as much a loyal and big
fan of him as everyone else here is, or may be more. but that certainly doesn't
mean that I lie and be a yes man. I am sure ARR also needs honest feedback and

Raavan.* There is no need of any introduction when it come to Mani Rathnam,
because his brand name does the magic at the box office.

The veteran director is currently busy with his big budget bilingual
tentatively titled *Ravaana*in Tamil and *Raavan* in Hindi. Sources say 90
seconds teaser of the Hindi version will be launched soon. More details are
awaited; till then, let's just wait and watch.

*Raavan,* said to be the modern adaptation of the epic Ramayana, revolves
around Ravana, the ruler of Lanka, who kidnapped Sita. The story culminates
with Sita taking the side of Ravana instead of Rama, who suspects her
chastity after having spent so much time in Ravana’s custody.

Vikram plays the villain. Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai are the lead
pair in Hindi, while Vikram will play the lead opposite Aishwarya in Tamil.
Music is by Oscar winning A.R. Rahman.*Raavana* is produced by Mani
Rathnam's sister Sharda under Rathnam's banner Madras Talkies.

Anmol Bhave, a Yahoo Group member, Chief of The Wandering Souls RAHMANIA
and a disciple of our Guruji has been chosen for NATIONAL AWARD by Government
of India for Best Sound for a film GANDH ( in Marathi ) !

This is Anmol's second National Award for Best Sound. He received his first
award for his FTII graduation film CLOSURE 3 years back.

Anmol also did Music Direction and Sound for a childrens film in Kannada
GUBBACHIGALU and also did sound for another FTII graduation film THREE OF
US. Incidently BOTH these films received NATIONAL AWARDs for best films in
 their category !

Directly or indirectly this is a hattrick of sorts for Anmol !

Anmol owes his success to AR Rahman. Though Anmol is a Mechanical Engineer,
the field of SOUND ENGINEERING attracted him the most after exposed to the
unique sound of ARRahman's music and he has chosen SOUND ENGINEERING as his
 career now.

Anmol claims that every performance of his show RAHMANIA opens up a new
treasure into Rahman's unique Sound Engineering skills and Anmol admits that
on the scale of ARR, he has a long way to go..

On behalf of the Yahoo group, I congratulate Anmol and wish him even more
 success in his future assignments.

I am sure Guruji ARR must be happy with his talented disciple ..

 TRACK RECORD

While Tamil music fans might be fast catching on to Omana Penne… (from
Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa), here's a little secret about the number. The song
was originally slotted to be sung by none other than A R Rahman himself but
ultimately, it was the young and energetic Benny Dayal, who got to croon it.
 Why's that, we asked

the Oscar winner recently. I was tired, he laughs, and adds, On a
serious note, I found my role as a singer in the Manipaaya… number better.

After he recorded Benny's version of the song, the composer decided to
retain it in the soundtrack. Benny did a good job on the song, states
Rahman, So, that's the version you listen to in the album.

[arr] Recaptured by a song.......much more the seond time!

2010-01-25 Thread ichord
Another one of my rambling, mundane sermons :-).

While I'm busy enjoying the music of VTV and a few other non Rahman soundtracks
of late, the song, Bhoola Tujhe from Blue has resurrected itself in my
playlist with great poise and salience. When Blue first released, I liked
the song and listened to it, but for a few months until recently, took a break
from it. I put this song in one of my compilation playlists recently and heard
it after a long time.it totally captured me by surprise. I was very
surprised by how that song hit me in a different way this time around after a
break, triggering a flood of positive emotions and just being tranced by
it..something I did not expect.

The song has got such a beautiful intro with the strings and opera, then
gradually melts into this acoustic guitar based ballad under the horns backdrop
and Rashid Ali's fine singing. There's some really nice electric guitar
layering in the second refrain and the song ends very gracefully with the
female choir and lush strings. The whole song just flows so beautifully and
gracefully with great lilt and sincerity. There is nothing too musically fancy
about the songmelody is straight forward, arrangements are not too flashy,
rhythm is steady, but still.it's very heartfelt.

Sound quality issues aside, which I know are present, this song to me is one of
AR's most impressive ballads of late. I know there are differing opinions of
this song, many having called it bland and uninteresting, but I wonder if
others have felt similarly about this song like I have. If not, that's
ok.I don't mind being alone with my thoughts and feelings about this.
