The other choral parts are purely Rahman's melodies. I think it's cool how Rahman used the original Rajasthani folk tune and blended it in so nicely in Kata Kata. Rahman did something similar in the songs Mercury Pookal and O Paalanhare, using a known melody sung in traditional Bhajans and using it tastefully and delicately in both songs, blending his original tune with the traditional melodic verse.

Penned by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and set to music by A.R. Rahman, the video has been filmed by director Gautam Vasudev Menon. Launching the video, Mr. Ellamvazhuthi said it would be telecast on LED screens fitted in many parts of Coimbatore city. All theatres in the State would screen the theme song. In Chennai, it would be screened in select places like railway stations, bus terminus and Koyambedu market. Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi said preparations for the conference were in full swing. Research papers to be presented at the World Tamil Classical Conference and the Tamil Internet Conference were being received and reviewed. Mr. Menon said that it took Rahman three months to compose the music for the song and another three months for him to film the video. As aerial shots needed permission, the shoot was delayed. Care was taken while filming to ensure that the visuals did not dominate the audio. The video was a perfect blend of audio and visuals, which was appreciated by the Chief Minister. Saying that he and Rahman worked free for the project, Mr. Menon said he would have liked to film the Tamil diaspora living all over the world but had to restrict himself owing to time constraint. http://beta.thehindu.com/news/cities/Chennai/article441711.ece

I'm addicted to this song..the melody is actually quite simple and traditional, but has a hook and intensity that is very direct and gripping. It's the thickly layered soundscapes which surround the skeletal melody and brilliant vocals of Rekha and Javed along with the whole ambiance of the song that is so very magical to me..blends of middle eastern, folk, techno, trance...just brillianthas a bit of a primal feel to it too with that mosquito drone sound coming in and out now and then with the use of Rekha's voice electronically processed The best decription in a review that I came across about this song was from Apunkachoice.com's review of Raavan. About Ranjha Ranjha... There is something inexplicable about the track Ranjha Ranjha belted out efficiently by Rekha Bhradwaj and Javed Ali. As the song settles in your heart, you are drenched in the richness of Rahman's music. Now that is indescribable.

[arr] Semmozhiyana Tamizh Mozhi.... True enough.... Please stand up and take a bow !
I would like to openly express my special thanks to A.R.Rahman for giving us such a beautiful number. Its impossible for any Tamilans to hear this song and not get a goosebumps. Especially Shruti Hassan's portion followed by the chorus. Just marvelous! It was so heart warming to see all the Tamil singers performing in A.R.Rahman's songs. Its been 6 years since Harini sang in A.R.Rahman's composition, and Bombay Jayashree, 13 years. Its another great thing to see P.Suseela singing for ARRahman after 15 years. Great to see a song fully performed by leading Tamil singers and beautiful lyrics about Tamil language. One part it says, A lively language, a world language which will live and grow forever, its our language!. It simply will give u the goosebumps. Such inspiring lyrics. And they way the singers render it, hats off to all the singers. Gautham Menon beautifully shot the video, and Anthony's editing. Its spell bounding... the Gautham Menon-ARRahman combo continues to rock! After listening to this song, the love for my Tamil language has grown tremendously... Such divine song from A.R.Rahman. I read some of the members here was complaining about Blaaze's portion. But i really feel it was very appropriate. Showing the Tamilans are rocking in all genre, even in Rap. Loved it...! Re: [arr] I feel Behne de singing didn't keep up with its music
Gopal ji, I'm not trying to give much importance to the debate of new vs seasoned singers myself. In any event, my previous post was specifically drawn to answer Mr. Rawat's contention that younger female singers are at par with the veteran singers. Without further diverting from the topic, I would like to reiterate that Karthik has done a marvelous job both in Behne de and Usure Pogadhe and he deserves all the accolades and credits for a job well done here. Correct me if I'm wrong but your argument was that Sonu and Sukhwinder are more deserving singers as compared to Karthik and you believe that they would done a better job in Behne De. I, for one find it futile to bring Sonu or Sukhwinder into this picture. Don't get me wrong for I've nothing against these two great singers but if ARR decided to have Karthik's voice in Behne De then I'm very sure he has very good reasons for the well-made decision. For one, there is something very unique about Karthik's voice which makes him stand far apart from his contemporaries. He has a deep voice which he uses with great effectiveness. They touch you soul when sung in the low notes and they give you goose bumps when sung in the high notes. And these qualities are very much apparent and (judging from the lyrics) essential to Behne De and Usure Pogathe. Quote - My only submission was that perhaps ARR is being overloaded with too many projects (national and international, collabs etc.) and hence the effort to give a song to the most deserving singer (one who is conversant with the genre and language) - is somewhere getting diluted. Perhaps you're giving ARR less credit than he deserves. I don't believe ARR would compromise on the quality of any of his projects in favour for another. Then again, I don't understand how ARR being overloaded with work has anything to do with the selection of singers. In any event, Sonu and Sukhwinder did sing a song each for Raavan. (It was most unfortunate that Sonu's song got axed but that's not the issue here.) My contention is that if ARR had wanted Sonu or Sukhwinder or any other singers to sing Behne De, then he would most certainly have got them to do so. But clearly he wanted to credit Karthik with this number and it's my humble opinion that ARR has made an apt choice here. --- On Thu, 5/27/10, Gopal Anandan agop...@yahoo.com wrote: From: Gopal Anandan agop...@yahoo.com Subject: Re: [arr] I feel Behne de singing didn't keep up with its music To: arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com Date: Thursday, May 27, 2010, 5:06 AM Gayathri ji - the debate is not so much about comparing new vs. seasoned singers. We are trying to understand why one version sounds better than the other. One of the reason is also the choice of singers for that genre or type of song and for that particular language. My only submission was that perhaps ARR is being overloaded with too many projects (national and international, collabs etc.) and hence the effort to give a song to the most deserving singer (one who is conversant with the genre and language) - is somewhere getting diluted. ciao / Gopal --- On Thu, 27/5/10, Gayathri Chandrakasan gayathri_ck17@ yahoo.com wrote: From: Gayathri Chandrakasan gayathri_ck17@ yahoo.com Subject: Re: [arr] I feel Behne de singing didn't keep up with its music To: arrahmanfans@ yahoogroups. com Date: Thursday, 27 May, 2010, 3:00 PM Quote But, Gayatri, if you compare among females, you wouldn't find younger lot of them lacking in any manner from the veterans. ARR has introduced so many female singers, you can name any female singer and find that her first ARR song is great and doesn't give any slightest indications that it could be her first song. To begin with, the number of female singers introduced by ARR is relatively smaller as compared to the male singers. Nevertheless to answer you question, yes, I do feel that singers like Harini, Chinmayee, Reena Bharadwaj etc would take years before they can be compared with the likes of Lata Mangeshkar, Asha, S.Janaki, Chitra, Kavitha Krishnamurthy or Swarnalatha. I'm not saying they're bad, but they still have not captured the versatility nor do they possess the talent that is evident in the latter group of singers. I'm not going to bring Shreya Ghosal or Sadhana Sargam into this argument as they were clearly introduced by other MDs and it took them some time (esp in the case of Sadhana) before they got the oppurtunity to sing under ARR..nevertheless among the list of new singers we have today, I don't think many of them could be called trend-setters or amazing as was the case with the veterans. On further note, how many of the younger lot of singers have sustained in the industry til date? Singers like Anupama and Vasundhra Das did woo the whole world through their debut numbers but frankly speaking, where are they now? Caroline was a one-time
