You can lead a horse to a water trough, but you can't make him drink.
Similarly, the horse that just drank, may spit water in your eye even if you're

[arr] Mani’s next ‘Pookkadai’?

2010-07-10 Thread sandhiya vs
Mani’s next ‘Pookkadai’?

IndiaGlitz
 [Saturday, July 10, 2010]

It seems Mani Ratnam
has zeroed in on a title for his next venture. If reports are to be
believed, the ace filmmaker, who is getting ready to launch Karthik’s
son Gautham in the movie, has named it ‘Pookkadai’.
“Remember it was Mani Ratnam who directed the two
important films in Karthik’s career- Agni Natchathiram and Mouna Ragam.
And he was the one who announced the reentry of Karthik in Raavanan,”
sources say.
“The good rapport between the actor and the filmmaker
has now resulted in the latter introducing the former’s son as hero.
The movie will be a typical Mani kind of urban love story with music by A
 R Rahman,” they add.
“The director is now keenly watching the responses
evoked by his last release ‘Raavanan’ and ‘Raavan’. In the meantime, he
is also busy doing groundwork for his next venture. He may reveal the
details soon,” sources maintain.

Production and arrangements are of expected quality with the usual ARR stamp
(symphonic elements, sonic range, etc). Didn't like Power Star much, but
enjoyed the slow female trio lullaby Namakame and the ARR passionately sung
Maaralente the most with its Mannipaya like choral interludes and grand
arrangements. Dochey has a nice melody by Shreya overlaid atop a Gangsta Blues
similar rhythm/hip hop template. Didn't like the kid rap and gunshot sounds in
that song, but perhaps suits the film situation. Other 2 songs were catchy and
pleasant.

Overall, a middle of the road ARR soundtrack for me with some high quality
tracks.

[arr] He is indeed the simplest guy I’ve met-RUNA RIZVI

2010-07-10 Thread Bivin Chandra
RUNA RIZVI, THE JAANE TU LADY.. AN INTERVIEW

An established ghazal singer, she debuted in Bollywood with Sandesh Shandilya’s
Uff Kya Jadoo Mohabbat Hai. But her big break had to wait till A R Rahman gave
her the title song of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa. We bring you Runa Rizvi as she
talks to Music Aloud about her career, ARR, and her upcoming projects.

Though you started your singing in Bollywood with Uff Kya Jadoo Mohabbat Hai,
the song where people really noticed you was the title song of Jaane Tu Ya
Jaane Na. So how did you land up that dream offer, of working with A R Rahman?
Yes my debut was Uff Kya Jadoo Mohobbat Hai from Rajshri Productions and I
think that was the most important and learning experiences of my first step in
the music world. Its definitely close to my heart as it was my introduction to
a recording microphone and the technicalities that a playback singer needs to
learn. I must add here that it was quite a challenging experience but everybody
right from the producer, the thoughtful Mr. Rajat Barjatya to my music director
Sandesh Shandilya ji were very co-operative. I remember asking Sunidhi (who
sang the title track in the movie then) when I met her at the studio, a few
tips about singing correctly with the right throw on the recording mic and she
was very helpful and supportive and assured me saying that no matter how long
to takes to sing a song don’t forget you have sung it in the end with a lot of
hard work. Later I worked with other artists too like Leslie Lewis, Bappi da
etc. but then got busy
assisting father in his music school and conducting workshops with him. One
day a dear friend of my family heard me at a get together and recommended my
name to Rahman sir as he was also Looking for a Punjabi folk voice for a
project called Provoked by Jagmohan Mundra . So technically Provoked was my
first work with Rahman sir . I did backing vocals, Alaaps and a few couplets
for that movie.
How was the experience of working with Rahman? Especially since the song was
something not quite along your regular line of semiclassical songs?
This is a myth I want to break in the industry – a classical /semi-classical
singer can only sing that particular genre. I love hip hop, RB, blues, jazz,
country etc and when I sing those I don’t think anyone would be able to point
out that I am from a Classical background. So I am here to sing all genres I
can and the deal is I want to make it sound mine when I do it.

About Rahman Sir – I can fall short of words writing about Sir and his
humility. I met him the first time In Chennai at his studio around 2.00 am in
the morning. He is indeed the simplest guy I’ve met. I clearly remember having
a very bad throat that day as I was all nervous and excited to see him. But the
moment he walked into the studio he made sure I was at ease and asked me to
sing something I was comfortable in I sang a sufi punjabi no. Then I requested
him that I would like to sing a Western song too. He heard me out and just said
OK Take. And we finished the recording through the night. After a few months I
get a call again from Chennai and before I knew it I was sitting with Abbas
Tyrewala and Rahman sir learning Jaane Tu in the studio (This time it was 3.00
am). When I sang the song it was all just a simple loop and Sir was on the
keyboard guiding me through. I couldn’t believe it when I heard the song later!
He is truly a musical genius.
Jaane Tu is an achievement of my life. The one thing I completely admire about
Sir which I also follow in my life is – His Music is his God. God bless him.

I once asked him about the inspiration behind his music that makes him stand
out of the ordinary. He just said, “Every song I create is like my first song”.
Thats the passion he has for music. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to
have worked with him and have learnt to become a better musician and more than
that a better person.

[arr] Interview : A.R.Rahman-II

2010-07-10 Thread A.R.Rajib
 Interview :
A.R.Rahman-IIhttp://www.glamsham.com/movies/interviews/10-a-r-rahman-interview-ii-071005.asp

*A.R.RAHMAN*
In the first part we talked about Rahman's foreign triumphs, so here is
something about his influences on the Hindi film industry.

Beethoven of the East, music wizard A. R. Rahman is certainly God's own
child when it comes to his passion, music, and it his body of work that
speaks volumes of the immense talent that he has been bestowed with and the
magic that he creates through his musical compositions. Right from his very
first album ROJA to his last RAAVAN, the Hindi film audience has been
captivated with his enthralling music that is a delight to the senses and
has always clicked in a big way irrespective of the box-office performances
of the films.

Masterpieces like ROJA, DIL SE, SWADES, LAGAAN, RANG DE BASANTI and the most
recent RAAVAN are a testimony to that. Every album that the maestro composes
is awaited eagerly by his fans also popularly called Rahmaniacs. So, for all
you Rahmaniacs and also those who love Bollywood and Rahman, here is our
second part of the interview with one of the greatest composers of all
times, A.R.Rahman.

*RAAVAN*
*PART II*

*You have immense faith in 'dargahs' and 'sufi' saints. The last composition
of this genre that we heard from you was the mind-blowing 'Khwaja Mere
Khwaja'(JODHAA AKBAR). Can we expect a totally non filmy album on 'sufi'
divine music, especially for the fans of this genre?*
First of al let me tell you that 'Khwaja Mere Khwaja' was not composed for
JODHAA AKBAR. It was a personal work for myself. As far as an album on
'sufi' divine music is concerned, I would love to do it, if time permits. It
is very much in my mind.

*Your fans in UK would like to know if you have anything special planned for
the UK leg of your tour that is in Birmingham and London's Wembly Arena
later this month?*

*'Aamir Khan is a very straight forward person.'*
Well in short, I can only say that it will be a celebration with lots of
style.

*Danny Boyle is likely to direct Aamir Khan in a film called BOMBAY VELVET
(for Anurag Kashyap). Since you are close to both Danny and Aamir, will you
be composing for the project?*
I am not aware about the mentioned project.

*You have a special rapport with Aamir Khan? What is common to both of you,
we mean in your style of working?*
Aamir Khan is a very straight forward person. I really enjoy working with
him.

*Your music for Mani Ratnam's DIL SE and also Ashutosh Gowariker's SWADES,
both starring Shah Rukh Khan are still very popular. Any chance of working
with SRK in the near future?*
I don't know, let's see.

*In the end coming to RAAVAN, you have composed some new and innovative
tunes and sounds for the film that blend with the narratives. Did you study
the epic Ramayana before you composed the music?*
One does not have to study the Ramayana. It is in the heart of every
Indian.

*Once it was heard that RAAVAN was to be based on the epic Ramayana, it was
expected that there will be some conventional and devotional music from the
audio album but as always from you we get never heard before tunes and new
radical sounds. Any reasons for that?*
Well, thank you. Actually Mani Ratnam wanted something contemporary and so
the audio album of RAAVAN has it.

There’s more than just sports to look forward to at the upcoming
Commonwealth Games scheduled to take place between October 3-14 in Delhi.
Some of India’s best musicians will lend their magic to the multi-national,
multi-sport event.

Composer-musician Ranjit Barot has been appointed as the music director of
the Games while A R Rahman has been commissioned to compose the theme song
or the official anthem. As music director, Barot will be working on all
segments of the event, including the opening and closing ceremonies, along
with Rahman, Taufiq Qureshi, Hariharan and other musicians. “There are a
number of cultural segments involved in the Commonwealth Games, so there is
plenty of scope for varied styles. However, since the Games will be held in
India this time, the underlying feel will be quintessentially Indian. We
have tried to capture the essence of ancient and contemporary India through
the music. It is a challenging and hugely satisfying experience,” says
Barot.

Yes, Undoubtedly it is one of the best albums of ARR. Maralante shows the

eye. All his films are musicially big hit. He also given new birth to
Mr.Manisharma from where he has taken a big turn from Pawan's film KUSHI.

Rahaman sir was at his best in this album. Voice renditions, Chords, Layering,
Arrangement everything was awesum and outstanding.

ARR - ROCKS.

Hats of to the dueo PAWAN - ARR. Looking forward for more films in future.

Wrong time to listen to KKS for the first time. You will get so badly
addicted that you wont be able to listen to Puli for at least 2 weeks

Its hard to pick one favorite from this album - Enuyir Tozhi, Azhagyiya
Cindrella, Theekurvi, Anarkali - every song is top notch, but Anarkali will
always be special song for me :)

Alright guys, had to write this. Thanks to Taimur and rest of the gang here,
 I

went and heard the song Theekuruvil. I had missed this album somehow and
 heard

it now for the first time. Absolutely sweet song, what else can one say.
 Rocking

! And on infinite loop as of now.

One more great reason to be part of this group. I retrieved a gem of a song.
 Now

on to the rest of the album.

 Cheers !

Yes, Amit will talk to ARR about how THIRUDA THIRUDA and ROJA changed his
life!! Trivedi never fails to mention in most of his interviews that THIRUDA
THIRUDA is his favourite!

Kishore, forgive me for saying this but you are behaving like a 5-year
 old!
It doesn't matter When you appreciated RahulRaj. Before or after someone
 else
mentioned other people. The fact remains that you did raise him and that
 is
Fine! No problem. That's what we are saying here- every once in a while,
 we
should share the appreciation for good music. If liking Aish's music or
 liking
Amit is saying that we are unable to appreciate AR's music, then my
 friend you
are WRONG. Did anyone say that to you?! Why are you coming to that
 conclusion
without any base?! Appreciation for another MD does not mean that we
 don't
appreciate AR's music. You need to get your thoughts checked. Sorry
 about being
aggressive here, but you are just taking this out of proportion. Chill.

  Ms
. Gayathri, I spoke ABOUT rahulraj, ONLY after seeing the POSTS about
 AMIT and
MICKEY J MEYER! NOT before that! I thought, that if u can speak about
 any
Mikalal, jaikishan out there, I can certainly speak about some great
 talent.

Now, I regret the same. If people cant appreciate real extra-ordinary
 music; I
thought of leaving it to time. Earlier, when Ilayaraja fans said ARR was
 only a
sound engineer and not a musician, ppl left it to time.

Thats what differentiates us, fans, frm the fanatics AnilAR Rahman
 has
raised our musical knowledge to distant levels. This has made us
 appreciate
sincere efforts and high quality music. Its gr8 to see new talents
 like Amit
Trivedi and Mickey J Meyer come up. While many of us see it as a
 positive sign,
good for our musical ears, others see it as a threat / comparisons to
 ARRs
  music.

Isn't that why we add [Non ARR] in the subject line ? Y is that a bad
 sign ?

We shud remember this is arrahmanfans group...not arrahmanfanatics
