Just came home after watching vtv here at Loehmanns. "Cool and calm"
romantic story with awesome music and wonderful cinematography.


AR has given life and soul to the film. The music carries the scene
straight into your heart.

 

I didn't expect this from Simbu, totally a different side of simbu
revealed, esp. when he narrates about her in NY Central Park and in
another scene where he controls his tears and then breaks out. Great
Simbu!. Trisha is lovely ;-) and very good acting too  Have to
mention Ganesh, comedy on the go. I enjoyed the fight sequence too.

 

A good twist at the end. Definitely have to acknowledge Goutham's guts
to deliver such a film.

 

I personally had some Nostalgia in few scenes ;-). Overall, if you go
without any expectation, you'll like it. I liked it :)

Attention all Singaporean Rahmaniacs, Couples Retreat CDs (the
Saregama release) 
is now selling at Mustafa Centre at S$8.90. 

As for VTV CDs Mustafa Centre and the other shops in Little India
only have the Lotus Five
Star (Malaysia) release. They dont seem to have the original Sony Music
release. Even the so 
called International release isnt available at any major CD shops here
in Singapore. Anybody has
any idea where we can get hold of the CDs released by Sony Music. I dont
intend to buy the Lotus
Five Star release as i dont see a point in paying for the compilation of
other songs they include in
their CDs. I was able to find the orginal Sony Music release of Ayutha
Ezhuthu back in 2004 at
Jothi Music Corner but this time around for VTV i cant seem to find it
anywhere. Im hoping
that Mustafa Centre will have it some time soon in the coming weeks!

movie where you can't stop laughing from the beginning to the end. ARR's
score was just out of the world. Everyone should watch it!! One of the

These are the reviews of "Aayitha Ezhuthu" in the media. The duo of
Mani Ratnam and A.R.Rahman has done it again and they have done it
in style. But how did it begin. Where did it start.

1991, among the glitter and glamour of an award function for
excellence in the field of advertising, very few would have imagined
that two individuals present there would soon start rewriting the
way movies and music made in India were looked at. One was Allah
Rakka Rahman, a 23 years old music whiz kid receiving the award for
the best ad jingle he had composed and the other was Mani Rathnam,
an invitee at the function.

All of us would well remember Arvind Swamy's Leo coffee ad directed by
Rajeev Menon. This was the ad which won the award and led to the
introduction of the musical genius to the ace director. Six months
later, Mani Rathnam showed up at the Panchathan Record Inn, a small
studio which Rahman had set up in 1989 in the courtyard of his house in
Kodambakam. This studio went on to become one of India's most equipped
and advanced recording studios. Bharat Bala, Rahman's school friend who
later directed the path breaking "Vandematharam" album had pushed Rahman
to compose a tune on the Cauvery issue which deeply affected both of
them. This tune which Rahman played to Mani later became the rage of the
nation, "Thamizha Thamizha" in the film Roja. A.R.Rahman arrived with a
bang.

One now is reminded of things happening for the good. It was because
of a small rift between Mani Rathnam and Illayaraja that the former
started looking for a new composer. Mani Rathnam would have well
patched up with Illayaraja whose earlier combination gave Tamil
industry one of the biggest audio successes, "Thalapathi", starring
Superstars Rajini Kanth and Mamooty. But Mani had the courage and
confidence to break the tie up with the lone ruler of the Tamil
music industry and go in for a novice. It will be interesting to
note that Illayaraja as a seventeen year old played the combo organ
during re-recording sessions of R K Sekhar, father of Rahman. Later,
eleven year old Rahman joined Illayaraja's troupe as a keyboard
player.

15th August 1992, Roja was released in Tamilnadu amidst sky-high
expectations and curiosity. It was a Mani Rathnam film without
Illayaraja. The film pundits doubted the ability of a 25-year old
debutant. The entire film world and filmgoers were in for a pleasant
surprise. Rahman delivered and Roja became a runaway super hit,
redefining Indian music and films. This is what A.R.Rahman had to
say about Roja, "I wasn't sure myself why I accepted Roja. I was
offered Rs.25,000 for it, a sum that I could make in three days
composing ad jingles. I think it was the prospect of working with
Mani that enticed me. Mani is not the usual kind of director who
uses songs as fillers. He takes great pains over the music of his
films. I love his picturisations, he can elevate a routine song by
400 percent; give it a new dimension." Mani Rathnam had these to say
about Rahman, "I was trying to do a film; I wanted good music and I
was searching for a music director. I found in Rahman someone ready
to break a lot of conventions that were there in terms of music and
recording at that point of time." Rahman adds, "I was blessed to be
picked by a director like him. He encouraged me a lot. It was as if
I studied in Mani's own university of music. He is like a brother to
me."

The magic continued; "Thiruda Thiruda", "Bombay", "Eruvar", "Dilse",
"Alaipayuthey", " Kannathil Muthamital" and the latest "Aayitha
Ezhuthu". All their movies were an excellent combination of visuals and
sound. All were trend setting in their own right. Mani Rathnam and
A.R.Rahman have come a long way. They have broken all barriers and taken
Tamil movies outside Tamilnadu, South India, India and Asia. One of my
Chinese friends comes to me and copies all Rahman songs into a compact
disc. An American comes to my friend and enquires about the shy musician
from Kodambakam. That's the reach Tamil music and movies have had these
days. This is something remarkable and something which Rahman and Mani
must be credited to. Rahman's "Bombay Dreams" broke all sales record in

Good point, Wiredbeats. Recent example of that is with Blue. Yes, I too
am guilty of downloading, but I always buy new ARR CDs when they are
availablenever an exception! For Blue, yes, I know there are issues
with sound quality, but to me, the sound on the original CD is crisper
and sharper than what I hear on the MP3s, even though the MP3s are 320
kbps. So, yes, if you want the best quality listening, get the original
CD.

ARR himself once said that if we want composers to do good work and
create good music for our listening pleasure, we must buy original CDs.
And for ARR CDs, as we know, it's usually worth way, way, way more than
what we pay!

Hi,

While many of you were doubting the veracity of the cinesouth article, I
had no doubts IR had made those statements. Having been a hardcore Raja
fan before 1992, and having followed all his interviews, I am certain he
would make such jealous statements. This is not something new for him.
IR has so often in the past made absolutely ridiculous speeches,
obnoxiously irritating interviews hurting so many people in the process.
In particular, I can never forget one particular interview of Raja,
hosted by veteran TV reporter H.Ramakrishnan, in late 90s in
Doordarshan, in which Raja was at his irritating best, literally
tormenting the interviewer. There was such arrogance, I've never seen in
any celebrity. That was when Iost my respect for Raja, totally! How
shocked I was back then, seeing my icon (till then) behave in such an
immature manner!

A few years back, Kumudam too had a feature which compiled some of his
speeches, showing how irritating his speeches become. Why do you think
so many top directors and lyricists broke up with him? 

But, even I was waiting for more proof about the latest controversy, to
write to the group. Here it is - an article in Kumudam showing exactly
what he said.

He did make those statements, and I'm not surprised he did.

At first,  I didn't want to write on this thread, as Rahman himself said
in his oscar feliciation speech about fans fighting. Didn't he say that
why should the fans fight, when he is  so friendly with other everyone
else? But, IR himself is never party to such sentiments. IR is such a
jealous individual, that he said he has never heard of a song titled
Chinna Chinna Aasai at a time when Rahman was the toast of the nation!

You should listen to the the song titled "Ulagam Ippo" written, composed
and sung by IR from the new album Azhagar Malai. IR's jealousy comes out
clearly in that. The song lyrics talks about how people leave the
country for money and that those people, though they may be rich, are
mean and poor in his view point! The lyrics further goes that world may
change, people may go wherever, but I'll stay here and serve the
country.

Rahman's world fame has woken up the beast of "jealousy against rahman"
which was sleeping within him, for sometime now!

I'm not attacking him but merely retorting back, and clearing the
misconception that Raja is a saint!

IR may be a genius, he may be a great composer, but when it comes to
modesty, level-headedness and humility, he is nowhere near Rahman sir!
This is cheapness to the core!

I'm sure many are going to bounce on me, but I don't care. I'm writing
this from the bottom of my heart and I'm sure I'm not making a mistake!

well that's true. but if there is a video v can actually be the

which usually tend to magnify things. but, off late there are articles
with videos and v can relate to the tone of the interview or speech

having said that, it is insane to talk anything indirectly
