Hi Amith,

Thank a lot for sharing such a wonderful article. Its very much useful for
those who doesn't read URDU.

After suffering thru all this for a while, I understood that name, fame,
money and everything is temporary, and thus, going after all these things is
of no use.
See, the above lines are well-matured ones. Its really awesome and it made
ARR to be humble down-to-earth. But I pray to Almighty that all these
fame, name, money every good things be there with ARR always...

 A. R. Rahman is a combination of innocence of a child and simplicity of
a saint. I recently met him on Mumbai to Chennai trip. When I introduced
myself to him, he noticed the similarity in my name and that of Rabah
Basri's, and in no time, we started talking. He was very frank; in fact; our
conversation started in the air travel and ended in his home in Chennai!

*Far away from the material world:*

What I realized thru the conversation about him is that he is far away
from the material world. He started talking on spirituality by saying
Whenever the plane takes off, I think this would be my last journey of
life. He went further describing how music and spirituality go hand in
hand. You cannot take one out of the other. Music lets you look inside
within you. It takes you on such a high, far away from this material world,
and moreover, it also takes you nearer to the God. You feel the purification
that takes place within you while listening to music. Maybe this is the
reason why music is sometimes called an integral part of devotion – of *Dhikr
 *and *Ibaadat*.

We used Sufiana music in *Chhaiyyan Chhaiyyan* from *Dil Se..* and
people appreciated it a lot. That is only because; Sufiana music is all
about devotion. People can easily relate to it. Music cannot be created on
conditions. According to me, while creating any form of art, the only thing
which should be taken care of is that it should be perfect piece of craft.
We should do our best to get the perfection.

 *…Only because of my mother:*

Whatever I am today is only because of my mother. I can never forget
what she has done for us. After my father passed away, she insisted that I
join the music. She had seen a dream for me and she has worked very hard for
that dream to come true. She was more confident than anyone else that I'd be
a musician sometime. She knows what's right and what's wrong for our family
better than anyone else. She has a great intuition. There is something
 divine about her.

 *Spirituality and religion:*

For me religion is like an instruction manual. You know the instruction
manuals which come with mobile phones? I think religion is something like
that. It is an instruction manual for the human beings, to make them the
 perfect human beings.

Religion teaches us a lot: regarding many things in life. It teaches
 maintaining the relations with others; heading to the right path in life;
thinking in a better way and almost everything. If we follow the things
perfectly we will certainly be happy in our lives, and will have mental
 peace.

Prophet Mohammad (P.B.U.H.) has once said, listen to your inner voice,
and it will guide you, it will tell you the rights and wrongs. The God is
within us, and we are the most closer-ones to the God. Only necessary thing
is to know about yourself and your needs.

In this modern age, every person should try to follow his own religion
perfectly. And the teaching of all the religions is in fact one and the
same. That is- loving others and spreading the peace! Is it not?

 *Music is what I breathe:*

Music runs through my blood vessels. The very first show ever in my
life - in which I had performed - was conducted when I was about 11 years
old. Being in music since my childhood, I knew that success doesn't come all
of a sudden, but it comes gradually. People started appreciating my music
very slowly, after listening to it through the radio programs, television
 shows; live shows and later

A.R. Rahman´s 3rd Dimension Tour: A Review

By: Samir Dave

Arriving at the entrance of the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York
on June 16th for A.R. Rahman's 3rd dimension tour, one could feel the
excitement that is reserved solely for the most famous music director from
India. The crowd itself consisted primarily of Tamils from South India, who
had come out in droves to support the man who is arguably one of the most
popular members of their community. Who is this man who has caused such
fervor with his music? Dubbed the Mozart of Madras, A. R. Rahman has
endeared himself as the foremost expert on fusing Eastern and Western
musical influences together and taking Bollywood music into the future.
Before he came on the scene, dance beats and pop sounding songs in Hindi or
Tamil films were few and far between (aside from his mentor, famed music
director Illyaraja). He has brought a modern sensibility and has given a
fresh sound to what some had perceived to be the stale medium of film music.
This is made more apparent by the fact that he has sold over 150 million
albums all over the world, eclipsing popular artists like Justin Timberlake,
Beyonce, and Madonna. From Roja to Guru and from Bollywood to Broadway
(Bombay Dreams), Rahman has built an impressive body of work that will be
enjoyed for many generations to come.

The concert itself started a little more than one hour after the official
start time of 8:00 pm (in typical Indian Standard Time fashion). By 9:10,
the house full crowd had become very restless and had begun shouting in
unison for the show to begin. I have to admit, everyone was blaming the
organizers of the event (Poojanka Entertainment) and I was beginning to
think that this was going to be a very disappointing concert.

The stage was impressively put together, with the left side completely set
up as the percussion section. There was every kind of percussive instrument
imaginable including: bongo, congo, dhol, drum machine, and tabla.
Percussion, it turns out, plays a very important part of any A.R. Rahman
concert as he always travels with percussionist Sivamani; whose work always
raises Rahman's concert to another level. While waiting for the show to
begin, Sivamani came out on stage to test the drum set up, and it's a
testament to his popularity that he got some cheers from the crowd. In the
center of the stage was an open space, leading to a stairwell and a raised
catwalk. Slightly off center was a raised platform with a Korg keyboard
setup (this was where Rahman would position himself during the concert).

Most impressive, was a seven to ten feel tall and twenty feet wide
electric board at the back of the stage, which would display an animated
graphics show for each song during the concert.

A.R. Rahman had brought with him, fellow playback singers Sukhwinder
Singh, Hariharan, Chitra, Sadhana Sargam, Blaaze, Naresh Iyer, and
Madhushree along with 16 dancers.

At about 9:15 p.m. amidst the cacophony of a very angry audience, a humble
man came onto the stage with a microphone. Dressed in a simple black kurta
and pants, the man turned out to be the musical genius A.R. Rahman. He
explained in his quiet and soft voice, that their plane had been delayed and
they had just got in a couple hours before. Rahman profusely apologized,
thanking the crowd, and stating that he hoped everyone would enjoy the show.
The crowd was silent, and you could tell that all was forgiven, for the show
was about to begin!

The lights dimmed, and the concert began with Ik Onkar from Rang De
Basanti sung by Chitra. The prayer song was a fitting way to begin the
concert as it segued into a rousing vocal performance of Jaage Hain by
Rahman from Guru. From there on Rahman and his troupe whipped the sold out
11,000 member audience into a frenzy. Never have I seen such audience
participation in any other live Indian concert/event.

There is always difficulty in pleasing an audience that speaks two very
distinct languages, in this case Tamil and Hindi. Rahman handled it well, by
either starting a song off in Tamil and then switching to Hindi or vice
versa. Every now and then there would be a completely Tamil language song
that would get a roar from the audience such as Vaaji Vaaji from Sivaji:
The Boss. I don't understand Tamil, but the music was awesome and the song
got a roar of approval from the audience.

As for Rahman himself, he doesn't dance, he doesn't move much on the
stage, he simply let's the music speak for itself. Instead, he brings along
Blaaze who was one of the vocalists/rappers on the Rang De Basanti album.
I have to give credit to Blaaze, for dancing, joking and even mingling with
the audience to get them

Warchus's and Shaun McKenna's book has been streamlined, but at more than

Most memorable of all is Michael Therriault's riveting Gollum, muttering,

Listening to Frodo and Sam comforting each other with an old fireside song,

Peter Darling's choreography thrills, from a rousing tavern song to

The battle scenes still struggle to create a sufficient sense of scale;
and the inevitable telescoping of Tolkien's dense material can be
disorientating. But snobbery and cynicism be damned: this show is a wonder.
Go with an open mind, an open heart, and wide-open eyes, and prepare for

were very few musicians. Watch the LA concert DVD from year 2000 for

as the original. In this concert, he didn't have enough people to
play all those minor instruments he uses in a song. Secondly,
sometimes you could hear the music but see no one playing. I think it
was mix of music being perforned live and tracks being played.

Dancing completely out of place- unlike 2000 LA concert.

Small stage- Very small stage.

Many of the regular musicians replaced by Substitutes (Miami

Also some performers were picked by Rahman a week ago in a talent
search in US. One singer was particulary bad, the one who sang the
Saathiya song. I know Rahman likes experiment etc., but to take
thousands of audience for granted and put up a bad singer. That is
arrogance.

His star vocals group completely missing- No Domnique, Ganga, Febi,

Overall, a low budget, very average show, with tickets no cheaper. I
guess, I got to erase this concert from memory.

amazing in Chicago with his normal costume. See, you guyz missed onething...
At the end of HUMMA song, he removed his over coat and threw on the stage;
just style. I was really shocked to see that. Coz he was that much
excited.. We really enjoyed...

Now on ARRs attire, to say the least it makes him look 10 years older.
He is trying to look like Naushad or Nusrat Fateh Ali. I don't think
his attire goes with his music either which is so youthful. Also, his
sherwani or achkan whatever that is - is ill fitting.
This would be my third Rahman concert in Washington DC next week. In
the last 2 concerts also he was dressed similarly and looked very
unconfortable himself. From these pictures I find other singers dressed
 more appropriately for the concert.
I hope someone conveys this to him. Probably a simple shirt and a jean
or even a pajama kurta (which he wears so often) would look and feel
better than this shiny heavy stuff he is wearing in this US summer.

Some of you will say it looks great and some of you will also say that
it doesn't matter. Whatever you think, please don't start a war here

Just accidentally I came across this old interview of ARR, which was
published in the Hindu sometime after Roja. As I read it for the
first time, just though of sharing it with every one here.

Question: How did you come into films?

A.R.Rahman: My father, R.K.Shekar, was a music director in Malayalam
films. He assisted Salil Chowdhary, Devrajan and others. He
died when I was nine. At 11, I came to the field, playing
on the keyboards and later as an accompanyist. I worked under
under various music directors in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam -
Ramesh Naidu, M.S.Vishwanathan and Illayaraja. It started becoming a
bit monotonous. I thought advertising would be a good alternative.
This went on for three years. I built my studio and took to
different forms of music - pop, rock and so on. It was then that I
met producer Tirlok Sharadha, cousin of ManiRathnam at a party.
He (Mani) came to my studio and heard some of my tunes. We agreed
to work together though we did not then decide on which movie.Only
later he told me it was to be Roja which he was directing for
K.Balachander.

Q: Despite your success, you do not seem to be working in a lot
of films.

ARR: Rather than making money, I believe in making people happy;
all other things are secondary. That is why I am not interested
in a lot of movies but only in one at a time. I like directors
whom I can vibe with. Ten years of experience in this field has
made me quite frustrated. I have evolved a technique which re-
quires a lot of time. Other music directors record a song in
seven or eight hours. But I am different. we do a basic sitting
and we record it. we record the voice and I add instrument by in-
strument to improve the quality.

Q: Will not the producers say that you are delaying their
projects?

ARR: My process involves a lot of time. The delay is not inten-
tional. That is how I get my results. When people say that
in Gentleman and Thiruda Thiruda the music is good and not like
the usual beats, I feel happy. Abroad, in some places, they take
three months to make an album.

Do you use computer in your films?

ARR: No. Not computers. The technique involved is different. In
fact, they say the music in Roja was computerised. As I said
earlier the recording takes time. You can hear the same flute
here in a different way. It is not computerised music. Nearly 40
persons sang `Veerapandi Kottayile' (a song from Thiruda Thiru-
da) that does not sound like computer music. `Vellai Mazhai'
from Roja) is sync oriented. I do not restrict the musicians,
but ask them to play whatever they feel. Then I record what I
want. I spend a lot of time on lyrics too. It takes around four
days. We write something in the first instance and then improve.
So it takes about a week to complete a song.

Q: Then you will be working only in perhaps half a dozen films a
year?

ARR: What will I do if I work for more films and only a few
click? I do not want my energy to be wasted. I want every film to
be a musical hit. In fact, Thiruda Thiruda songs have created a
record for any Tamil film - 25,000 discs were sold in Malaysia.
They are going to give us platinum discs.

You say you are choosy, but you also go in for popular songs.
Why is it so?

ARR: Different people need different songs. I want to go down to
the people at various levels. When I toured Tamil Nadu, I found
that people wanted songs that would make them happy. Also noth-
ing vulgar. There is nothing vulgar in Sikku bukku Sikku bukku
raile (a song from Gentleman).

Q: So you want to be with the masses?

ARR: No, rather I want my music to reach everywhere. If I play
rock, only youngsters will understand, while older people will
say Why is he shouting like this?. Each category of music
reaches only one circle: for the class audience Thiruda Thiruda
and for the masses Gentleman.

Q: Does basic knowledge of Carnatic music help?

ARR: Sure. I am learning Carnatic classical music from
Dakshinamurthy and Hindustani from Krishnan Nair. I like tradi-
tional music much.

Q: Why is it that the songs these days go out of people's mind
soon unlike the old numbers?

ARR: In those days, the lyrical value was greater in songs.

Q: You want to be called number 1 in the industry?

ARR: No. Numbers are not decided by me, but by the grace of God
and by the people. I want my job to be interesting and fun. I
just do not want to get stuck again in monotony.

A.R Rahman and Shankar has struck gold with Sivaji audio album. They
have the right mix of peppy and innovative numbers along with the
sounds and lyrics that are sure to please the mass audience of the
superstar. Straight off the bat, it is the best ever album, of one of
the greatest combination in Tamil Cinema- Rajnikanth and Rahman (R
R). They have worked together in Muthu, Padayappa and Baba, but here
for the first time Shankar, the showman of Tamil cinema joins the
team. The trio has come out with music that is far superior, to the
earlier works of the duo.
Rahman, the maestro in private has always said that he combines best
with Mani Ratnam and Shankar, because both of them are excellent
visualisers . How the song comes on the screen is as important for
them as the composition. Shankar believes that songs are one of the
most important ingredients of commercial cinema and he makes no bones
about it that he loves to make picture perfect song and dance scenes.
He has a story board for his song picturisation, including a colour
scheme, detailing of costumes and the dancers including the
choreography and the lightings to be used!

Right from his Gentlemandays, he struck a rapport with Rahman, and
always goes out of the studios to a quiet place and take days to
compose the tunes. Later they sit with the lyric writer and make
suitable changes to fit in with the mood of the film. For Sivaji it
is obvious that Rajnikanth also played a crucial role, and must have
contributed some inputs, which has gone a long way to make the songs
energetic. Well Shankar's contribution will be known once the song
videos are shown in the channels, which will further popularize the
numbers.

The album kicks off with Balleilakka….. rendered by SPB, Rahanah
Benny and chorus. The song (6.06) is said to be the introductory
number of Rajnikanth, which makes it very important. Traditionally it
is supposed to give goose-bump inducing effect to the superstar's
fans, who will throw flowers and at times money on the screen. It has
to be a fast number and normally SPB sings it.

Lyric writer Na. Muthukumar starts the song with the opening line-
Sooriyano Chandirano. Yaar ivano sattena sollu and goes on to hype
the mass image of the superstar. The superstar as a champion of
Tamils – Cauvery aarum kaikuthai arisiyum marandhupoguma( Can we
forget river Cauvery and the pounded rice). The hero can transform
the state into another America- Annan vandhal Tamilnadu America
agum. In the film Rajnikanth is coming back from US and is trying to
change our system. In the song he also makes suggestions like Koovum
cell phone-in nacharaippai anaithu, konjam silvandin ucharippai
ketkom.. (switch off your nagging cell phones and listen to natures
sounds). Rajni has never been spotted with a mobile in public!

On the whole the fast number with drum beats in the background is
racy and vibrant, thanks to SPB. Like Mukesh was the voice of Raj
Kapoor or Mohammed Rafi was to Shammi Kapoor and Kishore Kumar was to
Rajesh Khanna, SPB is to Rajnikanth- Who can say so fast Sadugudu,
Sadugudu…? This number is better than RR's earlier Oruvan, Oruvan
Muthalali… with all its drum beats, as an introductory song.

This is followed by the racy track Style.. with a guitar base, sung
by Rags, Tanvi, Suresh Peters and Blaaze. The song written by Pa.
Vijay wants to establish the fact that Rajni is the original
styleMannan of Tamil cinema. The song is western in feel, though it
breaks into chaste Tamil to characterize the superstar. Some
innovative lyrics, which the purist will yell, but children will make
it their anthem- Oru koodai sunlight..

The third song in the album Sahana Saral Thoovuthu … is the pick of
the lot, clearly vintage A.R Rahman and rendered in that catchy voice
of Udit Narayanan and Chinmayi. It is a beautiful melody, written by
Vairamuthu with the use of Rahman and Shankar's favourite Indian
instrument the Mridangam, with the maestro himself singing the dheem
thana dheem thana bit. Purists may be critical of Udit's Tamil
pronunciation, but it adds to the final mix. Chinmayi is fabulous.
(Why is she not given more chances?). This number is going to be the
chartbuster and also the top ring tone in the coming days.

A sad version of Sahana… sung by Vijay Yesudas and Gomathy Sree is
there in the CD, only a one-line bit is there in the cassette. What
make the sad version so good is the flute and the humming of Vijay.
This song may give Vijay the big ticket to playback singing. Next is
the all important title song Vaaji, vaaji… sung by Hariharan and
Madhusree. It is comparatively a slow melody written by Vairamuthu
with a rhythmic beat, that picks up as the number progresses.

Yesterday, I played Mukalla, Mukabla from Kathalan and the phone was

flavor that makes it attractive to people from all races. My friend
from West Virginia simply loves the songs Aye Udi Udi(Saathiyaa),

I remember a long time back, during the release of the movie

The driver was all gung-ho about the music.

 Hi all,

I am a radio jockey in this small conservative town called College
Station in Texas. On my show, I play a lot of Indian movie music and
not to mention - a lot of music composed by AR Rahman.

The maximum number of calls and enquiries that I get during the show
are when I play ARR's music. The other day, a Nigerian lady called me
from her car and asked me Mon! What is this song Ding, Ding Ding.
Its fantastic mon! She was asking me about the Daler Mehendi song in
Rang De Basanti. I really coudn't help, but have a big smile on my
face.

Yesterday, I played Mukalla, Mukabla from Kathalan and the phone was
of the hook. So, I guess my point is that ARR's music really has a
flavor that makes it attractive to people from all races. My friend
from West Virginia simply loves the songs Aye Udi Udi(Saathiyaa),
and Shabba Shabba(Daud).

I remember a long time back, during the release of the movie
Kathalan, Director Shankar had a similar opinion. He was travelling
in New York by taxi cab and handed the Kathalan tape to the driver.
The driver was all gung-ho about the music.

Well! That's my 1 cent for the day.

mumbai news] Ram Kamal Mukherjee
A still from London DreamsRaj Kumar Santoshi, of Damini fame and China
Gate infamy, is today a man of shattered dreams. Literally. His most
ambitious project to date London Dreams has been shelved because nobody
seemed to give him the time of day. The film which is about a rock band in
England was to star Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, and ironically eight songs
for the feature have already been recorded. The film though has been plagued
by cast-related issues from the onset. Akshay Kumar was initially to play
the lead along with Devgan, but opted out abruptly.

Salman Khan's dates then went awry thanks to his thinning hair, and Ajay
Devgan supposedly could not accommodate any fresh dates.

This, though, is just the actor bit. The actresses had their own musical
chairs in turn. For instance, immediately after the film was announced
Salman requested Santoshi to replace Priyanka Chopra (who was Santoshi's
original choice for lead actress) with beau Katrina Kaif. This
merry-go-round though was to continue and soon enough, Vidya Balan found
herself playing the part.

When contacted about this fiasco, a source said, Raj Kumar has lost
interest in the project because he feels that the project is taking too long
and the combination dates of Ajay and Salman are now working out because
both of them are extremely busy actors. The only thin hope Santoshi had was
of Devgan lending him some dates after his current commitments. But as it
turns out that Devgan is pre-occupied with his directorial venture, which he
will dive right into after his current slate of shooting dates with various
other directors.

Despite the writing on the wall, Santoshi chose his words carefully when
we asked him about his 'dream'. He said, As the director of the film, I
can't decide whether a film will be made or not. It's true that we have been
unable to get combination dates from Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan. However,
we're making efforts to solve the problem.

12:25 AM (EST), my Editor gives a call, checks on the status of the
music review of Sivaji and hurriedly hangs the phone. Well, I
switched on my music system and for the next four hours found myself
doing nothing but listening to `The Boss'.

If you are just about to catch a flight or on your way to your

needs to be experienced, cherished, remembered and revered for
decades to come, period.

Athiradee
A.R.Rahman, Sayanora | Lyrics : Vali
I started with Athirade had special instructions to start with
this song, and took six replays before I could switch over to the
next song. Rahman for Rajini the two thalaivars of millions, will
have millions more swinging, millions asking for once-mores and
millions dumb stuck, when the song hits the silver screen. Rahman is
unstoppable thank the Lord, for making him pick this one for
himself Billa, Ranga, Badshah thaanevan pistol paesum bayshah
thaan. The female voice of Sayanora and the chorus are just great.
Special mention for lyrics its fun, frolic and frisk. Can someone
tell me, is lyricist Vaali a 21 years old bloke out of New College?!

Balleilakka
S.P.Balasubramaniam, Raihanah, Benny Chorus | Lyrics :
Na.Muthukumar
Are you a big fan of his breath taking walks, his mesmerizing styles,
his charming smile and his numerous trademark gimmicks, then rest
assured you are just about to be taken on a memorable ride by the
Superstar in this song. Hear this number and you cannot stop letting
your imagination run wild, picturizing one of the biggest idols of
all times just creating destruction on the 70mm screen. The intensity
of SPB is too good to be written, he has sung as if he is making his
debut with this album. Raihanah is refreshingly folky. Lyrics by
Na.Muthukumar are just straight from heart!

Annan vantha TamilNadum America thaliva nee vararuthukku thaan
nanga thavam kadakarom.

The Boss
Blazee, Naresh Iyer and Raqueeb Alam | Lyrics : Na.Muthukumar
Seven punch lines, three rappers and a three minute stunner. It would
be a crime to review this piece more without the visuals. Written as
a theme music for Superstar, the percussions used are definitely new
to Tamil Film Music. Watch out for the last 30 seconds high finale!

Sachin adicha sixer thaan da, Sivaji adicha puncher thaan
da.lyricist Na.Muthukumar will hit big time if Rajinikanth's fans
lap up this song.

Vaaji Vaaji
Hariharan, Madhusree and chorus | Lyrics : Vairamuthu
A.R.Rahman might not be as innocent as he looks. He is a big timer
teaser, starting the song with some mystic sounds resembling Buddhist
musical notes. When you are all set expecting some slow paced melody,
he changes the tempo with the chorus chanting Aambal
Aambal.. Muval Muval. Well, if you are wondering what these words
are, they are the two most researched words in Tamil now, after
Vairamuthu used them in this song.

The song sung by Hariharan and Madhusree is a classic example of a
genius at work. Though it looks simple from outside, it has little
bit of everything Qawwali, Punjabi, Mediterranean and of course
Tamil. (Maybe that is what the maestro himself is all about!)

Sahara
Vijay Yesudas, Gomathi Sree chorus | Lyrics : Vairamuthu
Traditional lyrics of Thiruppaavai
Vijay Yesudas, Gomathi Sree chorus | Lyrics : Vairamuthu
Traditional lyrics of Thiruppaavai

A haunting irish pipe seamlessly transitions itself into a flute,
with the mellifluous Vijay Yesudas bolstering it further to give the
song a great start. Vijay has given his best to make the most of the
big opportunity. His efforts have paid off. But the surprise element
is Gomathi Sree, her voice resonate and reverberate as she recites
the Thirupaavai, with a subtle guitar in the background. Yet another
master stroke from the Mozart.

Sahana
Udit Narayan, Chinmayi | Lyrics : Vairamuthu.
If it was Munbe Vaa in 2006, then it is Sahana in 2007. Rahman just
loves doing the soft melodies. But the best part about Rahman is that
he is able to consistently break the bench marks he sets himself and
keep pushing his music further to the next level with constant
improvisation and re-inventions. He does it again this time with
Sahana. Udit Narayan and Chinmayi are picture- perfect for the song,
though Udit might need some more intensive Tamil classes to catch up.
Rahman's interlude is just the icing on the cake. Watch for the way
Chinmayi signs off at end, talent written all over!

Vairamuthu comes up with a masterpiece. It is said that

I agree with you chelvakumar. SPB has done a fabulous job in this song.
Great effort.
Still I too agree that Muthu intro song is the best intro song so far for
Rajini.

Nowhere these songs are near to BABA songs no any other MD can do this
majic as our ARR has done here.

If a person who never liked SPB could turn around and tell me that he was

SPB...that clearly answers how good the songs is..That person is my best
frriend. He never liked rehman n his composition. But when it came to
SIVAJI, he called me and told me he was amazed with Rehmans work..I was
shocked..haha

This song cannot be rated with BABA. Its totally a different approach. The
instruments used n its creativity in redering SPB's voice n pic was at its
best..Rehman utilised the whole power of SPB sir in singing this song..Only
SPB can do this magic..Expecially the sadugudu
sadugudubreathless..awesome.

This tune is really up to Rehmans standard..Compare chandamukhi opening
song and this..i bet this stands way better than that thevuda song..A higher
standard for any upcoming rajni movies in future..Im sure others are
secretly listening to it with astonishment. Deep in heart, they knew this
album is totally beyond the world and the creativity of this man alone has
made him the maestro/mozart of not madras but India.. :) I wnt deny if

believe… I will start from best then go to the good and reserve

 1. *Orukoodai Sunlight* – pick of the album… Absolutely new
style… to
Thamizh… the hip hop… awesome… Though at first when I got the 40
min sample…
I thought it was some African or Spanish song… It took time for me
to
realize that it was my own Thamizh song… and it is from sivaji…
cos I read
the lyrics orukoodai sunlight earlier in some blog… Whatever it
is… this is
going to be a mega hit song… that's for sure… very very very very
very
 attractive…

 2. *Sahara* – By Vijay Yesudoss… He is really good… I think
it's a
 pathos version… amazing flute bits… haunting melody… it's
ineffable… gives
goose bump when he finishes the last line of the pallavi and
starts again…
ARR strikes… and the good thing is he strikes very hard… and I
think the
second part I would appreciate more when I see the movie… sure it
is some
 situational song….

 3. *Adhiradi *– As the song rightly suggests it's an
Adhiradi song…
which again I am sure you will like in first instance… Musically I
think
none of the existing music director can even compete with ARR…
They are not
even half of what ARR is… This is what I felt when I heard this
song… A
complex melody handled with ease… Really I admire him for creating
a melody
like this… Its typical ARR peppy number… esp. the bongos which
come when the
words BILLA RANGA BASHA THAN IVAN PISTOL PESUM BESHA THAN is
sung… is
really awesome… it has nice early mid 80's touches in it… To cap
it all it
is Rahman who has sung this song… Probably I would say he is both
the plus
and the minus for this song… His voice gives the needed flavor to
the song…
but except for the line which I have written above… I couldn't
understand
even a single word… it sounded to me as if ARR is singing in some
Egyptian
or some Greek or Latin… definitely not Thamizh… of course as I
will be
listening to the songs again and again I am sure to understand the
lyrics at
 a later point of time…

 4. *Sahana* – Typical ARR melody… Amazing tune which steals
your heart
in the first instance… Everything is good about this
song except
for Udit Narayan's voice… He is bad… That magical voice which I
used adore
in Eh Ajnabi, Hum Rahi Jabho Mastana, Kadhalikum Penin,
Kuluvalliley,
etc. is no more evident and of course his pronunciation of Thamizh
words is
really really bad… goes without saying… ARR could have gone for
some other
singer… About Chinmayee… Now she has become ARR's regular
singer… she is as good as she was in Tera Bina, Guru…

 5. *Vaji Vaji* – if I should appreciate something about this
song I
 would say it is lyrics… really nice… but in vain… Madhushree… I
don't get it
why Rahman is using her in Thamizh… she is really horrible in
pronunciation…
 she is killing Thamizh no

 Folks,

Usually, I don't post much here, but I do read most of the postings.
After listening to Sivaji songs and reading all the postings about it, I
can't resist saying a few words about the songs.

I am a die hard fan of Ilayaraja and usually listen to only his songs
with some exceptions of SS songs by other music directors. Now I have to say
that ARR has done a great job for Sivaji songs. He has given a great variety
of songs that would satisfy both the young and middle aged and the
seniors..yes, as one of the song says, Kulandhaikku un style, elasukku un
style, perusukku un style..these words can also said for the songs.

As a die hard fan of SS, I want give a big Hug and thanks to ARR..You
have really done it this time and you have proved that you are the BEST out
 there..

 1. Vajee Vajee - a good number that will stay on the top ten for months
 to come..

 2. Sahana - Udit really did it with little damage done to the tamil
words. Great number..(folks did you notice that this song has only one anu
 pallavi)

 3. Orru Kudai - Simply out of the world..this would attract all those
 youngsters out there...

 4. Thee thee - ARR voice with the guitar solos in between, AMAZING..I
 love it

 5. Ballai Lakka - No words to describe SPBs performance..You are still
my all time favorite singer. All the juinor singers of today should learn
from this man that singing should be natural..Hope this is our SS intro song
 in the movie..Can't wait..

 6. Boss - a good one, but need to see the movie to appreciate this even
 more..

 7. Sahana- slow version..
Yes, this is also great..but wondering why KJJ son did not sing the duet
 of this instead of Udit..

Sorry folks, long one..I have listened to all the songs so many times
and still can't get enough and simply can't wait for the movie release.
 Thanks for reading.

 mumbai news] Ram Kamal Mukherjee
A still from London DreamsRaj Kumar Santoshi, of Damini fame and
China Gate infamy, is today a man of shattered dreams. Literally. His most
ambitious project to date London Dreams has been shelved because nobody
seemed to give him the time of day.

However,
we're making efforts to solve the
problem.http://www.mumbaimirror.com/net/mmpaper.aspx?page=articlesectid=30contentid=2007040403485939075899eeb

My honest review of the album:

1).Athiradee(sung by our boss) is undoubtedly the best song of this
album.Probably the best song sung by arr.It is much better then hamma
 hamma(BOMBAY).

2).Ballelakka(SPB) is RAJINI's intro song. This song sounds so...
 good.

 3).Sahara(Vijay Jesudas-sad version):A gr8 melodious song.Slightly
better than the other version sung by Udit Narayan.Song sounds better
 each time u hear it.

 4).Oru koodai/Style(Blaaze):Though this song does'nt revolve around a
proper theme this song has already achieved a lot of popularity when it
was leaked two weeks b4..The background beats are mindblowing.

 5).Vaa ji.. Vaa ji(Hariharan):Another gr8 song,but i just get the
feeling somethimng is missing in this song..

 6).The Boss/Vaada Vaada(Blaaze,Naresh Iyer):A peppy song sung by Blaaze
and naresh iyer.I starting liking it after i heard this song for the
 first time.

7).Sahana saaral(Udit):This song is not as good as the one sung by
 vijay.Song is very dissapointing.Main reason being udit.His
pronounciation is horrible.ARR shud stop using him in tamil films. But
this songs also grows on you when you hear it for 4 to 5 times.

I request all the ARR fans to buy the
original cd's/cassetes of this album as soon as it gets released.

This music for this track reminds of the song Thaamthaka Theemthaka

 (2) Vaaji (3/5)
This type of track is what ARR did in 1996 i.e. Indian. Why the same
in 2007? He could do this type of song in any other Tamil movie.

 (3) Sahana Sahara (3/5)
Good song but same comments as for Vaaji.

 (4) Athiradee (3/5)
Ranjit did the programming. Reminds of MJ's Dangerous tracks. The
track from 00:45 seconds is familiar but I couldn't identify it. OK
 track.

 (5) Style (2/5)
Never liked this track from the start. Don't like it when ARR goes
Shaggy like in Ratchagan and E20U18.

 (6) The Boss (2/5)
Should use less of Blaaze!!! Suresh Peters was a better muse for ARR -
look at Thiruda Thiruda, Kaadhalan, Gentleman, Super Police, etc.

Balleilakka has intentionally-likeable lyrics but is pretty mundane
otherwise. Athiradee tests Rahman's vocals and its unusual tune and
orchestration pattern sounds interesting. Vaaji vaaji is very catchy
thanks to a predictable rhythm sequence and Blaaze adds his usual
mishmash in The Boss. Sahana is no doubt melodious, but a bit staid
for a Rajinikant starrer, while Gomathi Sree is fantastic in Sahara!
Style with its fragmented structure mixed well in a likeable package
is the clincher. Vairamuthu's lyrics take a safe route, but Rahman
stands his ground by giving a soundtrack that doesn't seem to
 immediately pander to Rajinikant's image!

And I would like to give my thought on the songs..

Here u go..

1)Balleilakka : (S.P. Balasubramaniam, Raihanah, Benny Chorus)..9/10.

Well.It luks like the intro song...
The lyrics r awesome..
Since it is by SPB ..u feel similarity with thevudu thevuda song.
this one will be liked by people from the first hearing..
some beats remind me the kummi adi song from SOK.
The best intro song for rajini

2)Athiradee : (A.R. Rahman Sayanora)...8/10.

Very new to tamil music..
ARR Voice is too gud...
I wonder how he keeps changing his voice so well between movies..
Mind it,this song needs too many hearingsand reviewing this will be
tough for every one for sure...
Sounds to me like an old age song with new music..
Not sure whether this song will suite for rajni ..

3)Vaaji Vaaji : (Hariharan, Madhusree Chorus)...8/10.

This song is a slow poison and sure ll be liked by many after few
hearings...
I feel this song is too much tamilized in terms of lyrics..with
aaambal..mouvval...any tamil teachers out thr?plz help to through the
meaning.

4)Sahana : (Udit Narayanan Chinmayi)...10/10.

Well..again.no need to review this song...
the fact is tht ,this song already stole many hearts at its very first
hearing...shara pookal..going to take so many rounds around the world.
I feel udit is the best choice for this song..whn he takes like
ooraayiram aandugal semitha .its sound gud with his voice than any
one..

5)Style : (Rags, Blaaze, Tanvi Suresh Peters)8/10.

Its very stylish song and will catch the youth very easily..especially
the children will like this song more...
Its very new to tamil music...and the gud news that the ring tones r
doing gud with this song already..

6) The Boss : (Blaaze, Naresh Iyer Raqueeb Alam)...8/10.

It looks like a theme music...with all the rajini punch dialogs...
sachin adicha sixer thaan da..sivaji adicha puncher thaan da...
The instrumentation is very gud in this song...

7)Sahana : (Vijay Yesudass, Gomathi Sree Chorus)..10/10.

Finally, the sad version of sahara...by vijay yesudaas and gomathi sree
combination..simply superb...the flute is excellent ...snd gomathi sree
has done an excellent job mermarizing voice..

Over all.. Its the best from Rahman for Rajini...and I feel sivaji will
be a super hit with Balleilakka ,Sahara,Style songs toping the chart..

Not sure whether I ve composed my review in a better way ..but I am
happy with Sivaji songs ..

I hope to hear more gud reviews from all the fans out thr in this
group...especially from our friend SAM :)

There is so much to hear from Rahman..

Cheers,
sullu.

  Dear Rahmaniacs,

Since 1992, Our ARR has been making history in several ways.
Now Sivaji being so sensational, can we join hands in making this a
history?

What we could do to make it a history? Its the sales of Original
Audio CDs and cassettes. Let's all join hands and turn to
be Marketing Professionals of the audio.

I read somewhere, the best way of marketing a product to reach
people is Word of mouth. Here is how we do

1. Each one of us will buy a original copy of the audio CD /
Cassette.
2. Try not to lend to friends /relatives to listen to it. Rather,
encourage them to buy one.
3. Lets spread the word and market it to our friends, relatives to
buy the original.
4. Gift Sivaji original CDs to friends / relatives...

Comon guys, lets join hands and do it for our Messiah of Music.

I would request, people with music background to analyze the songs,
the use of ragas, instruments, its specialties and post it to the
group. And let's use those facts to encourage our friends and let
them know how special it is to buy a new one.

Please forward it to other Rahman groups that you are a member of.

For those in US, please visit http://www.sivajiusa.com/sivaji/ to
book your audio CD, and tickets for the movie.

Hope the Rahman fans community joins me to make a history.

LETS SPREAD THE WORD GUYS, thats the way we show our love to our ARR.

Long live ARR,

Bergin.

hey folks,

can't you, all, wait for few more days. Don't think all of you as Music
Genius and comment on ARR's work. No way, HJ can be compared to our legend.
ARR is already far far away from others and he is a trend setter. Everyone

i'm scared...the leaked songs of Shivaji have no business being in a

was a fantastic soundtrack)...it would be shameful to all of us AR
Rahman fans if Harris Jayraj deivered a better album for Shankar than
ARR.

Indian, Kadhalan, Jeans, Mudhalvan, Boysall 10/10 soundtracks (i
hate ottakatiko from Gentleman..but other than that that soundtrack
is terrific...so 8.5-9/10 for that)...that is the track record which
ARR must perform

i don;'t think i'm exaggerating when i'm saying that this is the most
important soundtrack in ARR's career as far as his standing in the
tamil industry is concerned...the film undoubtedly will become a huge
hit..and most likely will be great..shankar KNOWS how to picturize a
song...and how to integrate it well...so this is a GREAT opportunity
for ARR to deliver a magnum opus...he won't have to worry about his
songs going unrecognized (how could people have neglected the great
songs of kangalal Kaidhu Sei...one of his 10 best in
tamil?)however..if he falters..it will be the ultimate black
mark in a glorious career...

Please see the mail below which I sent to Mediafire.com to remove the files
(sneaked out MP3 songs of Sivaji) from their website. I did this as soon as
I came to know that its available in their site. It has been removed now.
Good response from that ADMIN (TOM).

As a TRUE fan of ARR, one must do the same instead of discussing about this
issue over various forums spreading the news to everyone. I agree that the
files must have been uploaded to various web servers. We are *11k+ *members

inform the respecitve website Admins, the problem will be solved. If
everyone started reporting this abusement of these files, the problem is

Please going forward, do the same and try to help ARR. Thanks...!!!
