Re: [arr] MUSIC REVIEW: Connections | AR wrecks superbly crafted music with average vocals
this one is really funny. Got a good laugh after a long time :-) On Tue, Jun 30, 2009 at 2:23 PM, Bivin Chandra bivinchan...@yahoo.comwrote: What can be said about AR Rahmanhttp://buzz18.in.com/celebrity-profile/ar-rahman/1331 that hasn't been said before? Here's something: His vocals don't cut it. Honestly, it's upsetting to have a legendary composer push himself as a vocalist when there are great singers around. A minor clarification - 'great' does not mean Sukhwinder Singhhttp://buzz18.in.com/celebrity-profile/sukhwinder-singh/2462. Also, it's obvious Rahman's trying very hard to put himself out there as a vocalist, since he has 'handpicked' songs he has sung on. Percussion is king on *Jiya Se Jiya*, a lovable tune dampened by AR Rahmanhttp://buzz18.in.com/celebrity-profile/ar-rahman/1331's voice right from the start. *Khalballi* is a wonderful example of how some music should released without vocals. Ever wished you could choke someone by just thinking about it? *Meherbaan* from *Ada*'s soundtrack is a classy song. The music is perfect, and after a long time Rahman's voice sounds bearable. Surprisingly, it sounds alright even when he goes higher on this one. *Dil Se *has kick*ss music, there's plenty going on and it all fits right in. For those who long for the Rahman of yore, you'll find some of him in here. *Ek Mohabbat 'Vote For Taj'* is like the other songs on the compilation... well composed. Almost every track is Rahman attempting to show his mellow side, which is terrible for this collection because there's very little here that actually 'connects'. By the time *Pray For Me Brother* comes on, you're ready to toss the CD case at someone just to start a fight out of sheer boredom. The fabulous *Bombay Theme* overshadows everything else on this compilation. Not only has Rahman done the music a huge favour by not singing, but the composition is also excellent. *Bombay Theme* is the only song on this collection that is full of soul. The rest is stuff that will be praised to death because it has Rahman's name on it. The instrumental version of *Pray For Me Brother* sounds better than the original, but may very well be played while you're having free lunch at a wedding. It's pretty pointless to have a *Club Mix* of *Jiya Se Jiya*, and it's even more stupid to make something like that, but then everyone wants to make money, yes? My only beef with Rahman is that his singing is dull. He's bloody good at composing music, and manages to sing with sincerity. But sincerity does not always ensure quality.*'A Journey Through Anthems'*, the CD says, but how many of these tracks can actually be called 'anthems'? Sorry to break it to you, but except for *Bombay Theme*, there is nothing else on this CD that comes close to being an anthem. What use is a compilation that doesn't feature some of the artiste's best work? Is it an attempt at showcasing his lesser known songs? Or is it an effective money-squeezing exercise, considering fanboys will buy it anyway? The biggest question here is, how many musicians who sing about peace and hugs actually care? Do musicians and music labels not know everyone cannot be fooled and some people can actually tell when an artiste is cementing his popularity among the public that doesn't know better? It's really not that hard to recognise a poseur, y'know? *VERDICT* Maybe the best of Rahman's work has been kept aside for future compilations. Neat way of ensuring the cash never stops flowing, but too obvious. And way too pretentious. I bet all your Michael Jacksonhttp://buzz18.in.com/celebrity-profile/michael-jackson/2832 CDs have been dusted, so just continue spinning 'em if you want to listen to songs about peace. *RATING*: 2.5/5 http://buzz18.in.com/reviews/music/music-review-connections/139782/0 -- Regards, Vikram http://www.vikramkumar.org Send free SMS in India http://mGinger.com/index.jsp?inviteId=coolviki

Re: [arr] Re: Delhi-6 - Thumbs Down by Taran Adarsh
track is the weakest link in the enterprise. The love story falls flat. Also, the ending is so abstract that an average moviegoer would find it difficult to comprehend what the actual culmination is. The sequence in the end, when Amitabh and Abhishek have a conversation, looks weird. In fact, ridiculous. What was the need to have this sequence? It makes no sense. Even the Ram Leela sequences, interspersed at regular intervals, are forced in the screenplay. Rakeysh's handling of the subject is exemplary at places. But the writing [faulty at times] as also the execution of the material isn't the type that would appeal to all sections of moviegoers. A.R. Rahman's music is outstanding; it's easily amongst his finest works. 'Masakali', 'Ye Dilli Hai Mere Yaar', 'Rehna Tu', 'Maula' and 'Genda Phool' are amazing tracks. Ditto for Prasoon Joshi's lyrics; they're gems. Binod Pradhan's cinematography is brilliant. Watch the Jama Masjid sequence [breath-taking] or the camera movements in the bylanes of old Delhi. Just one word to describe the output: Incredible! Abhishek doesn't work. Also, his American accent looks fake. Sonam is likable. Waheeda Rahman enacts her part well. Rishi Kapoor is wasted. He deserved a better role. Amongst supporting actors, Om Puri [powerful], Pawan Malhotra [flawless], Vijay Raaz [tremendous], Deepak Dobriyal [genuine], Divya Dutta [admirable] and Cyrus Sahukar [likable] leave a mark. Prem Chopra is alright. Atul Kulkarni looks like a buffoon. And what is Raghvir Yadav doing in this film? Supriya Pathak, Tanvi Azmi, K.K. Raina, Akhilendra Mishra and Dayashanker Pandey are passable. Amitabh Bachchan's presence in the penultimate minutes fails to evoke any reaction. On the whole, DELHI 6 has a terribly boring beginning [first hour], an absorbing middle [second half] and a weak end [climax]. At the box-office, the business is bound to be divided. The film may record bountiful collections at multiplexes in its opening weekend. The popular music as also the fact that there's no major opposition will benefit the film in the initial days. But the business at single screens as also the mass belt will be a shocking contrast. However, the cracks will start appearing sooner than expected, even at plexes. Thumbs down! Re: [arr] Ghajini release stayed by the Chennai HC
More details here http://movies.ndtv.com/newstory.asp?section=Moviesid=ENTEN20080077518 If you've already booked your tickets for Aamir Khan's much awaited film * Ghajini*, which was to release this Christmas, you might just be disappointed. The all-India release of the film has been stayed by the Madras High Court. KBC Pictures had recently filed a suit in the High Court against the makers of the film, saying that KBC Pictures have got the rights for the remake from the original producer. The producers of Aamir Khan starrer *Ghajini*, who woke up to the court summons Monday, have been accused of infringement of KBC Pictures' copyright. KBC Pictures is producing a film titled *Kahani Ghajini Ki*, which has an Amitabh Bachchan lookalike in the lead. [arr] Raja Sen Comments on A R Rahman
And then there's that other cult, led by the curly-haired maestro from Chennai. It's been a characteristically strong year for AR Rahman, what with hits like* Jodhaa Akbar [Imageshttp://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=jodhaa%20akbar ]* and his youngest-sounding soundtrack in ages, the delightfully collegiate *Jaane Tu [Imageshttp://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=jaane%20tu ]... Ya Jaane Na*. There have also been albums like *Ada *and the soundtrack to *Yuvvraaj [Imageshttp://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=yuvvraaj ]*, which, while disappointing by Rahman's usually stellar standards, has still managed to rake in the default plaudits. He's currently in the news for his work on *Slumdog Millionaire*, the Danny Boyle film primed to be this year's Oscar favourite, and the soundtrack to the Mumbai-based film will hit stores the same day* Ghajini* swaggers onto the screen. http://www.rediff.com/movies/2008/dec/22forget-the-ghajini-inspired-tag.htm -- Regards, Vikram http://www.vikramkumar.org http://www.vikramkumar.com http://www.vikramkumar.info

[arr] JTYJN Rocks
JTYJN really rocks. Just came back after seeing the movie. Though a couple of songs are missing in the movie i.e. Jaane Tu Meri Kya hain (both versions) plus Tu bole has been used for a couple of lines. The BGM is amazing and the other songs really rock . It's gonna be a sure shot hit. -- Regards, Vikram http://www.vikramkumar.org http://www.vikramkumar.com

Re: [arr] Ada...a way of life music review! (by Joginder Tuteja)
setting. Rendered by Alka Yagnik and Jayachandran, it is again a situational number, which has an extremely slow pace with minimal instruments in the background. While 'Hawa Sun Hawa', 'Gum Sum', 'Gulfisha' and 'Meherbaan turn out to be the best of the lot, 'Tu Mera Hai', 'Hai Dard' and 'Milo Wahan Wahan' do not match up to the same scale due to their setting. Meanwhile the title song 'Ishq Ada' falls somewhere in between. Though there isn't song in the album which can be considered below the mark, there is indeed a stark difference between the way Ada...A Way Of Life opens and ends. Re: [arr] The Comeback Kid - Ramgopal Verma
Technically he did introduce A.R. Rahman into hindi fiml industry as Rangeela was the first original HINDI OST for Rahman (All previous movies were dubbed ones). But A.R. Rahman was much famous in Bollywood before that. I guess Rangeela came out around 13 years back... and i had bough the audio cassete for A.R. Rahman;s music at that time Another charge against him is that he has become complacent. He introduced talent like A.R. Rahman, Anurag Kashyap, Jaideep Sahni and Manoj Bajpai and then let them go away. I didn't create any talent. I just used them at a point of time. I never had a team and will never have, at times his quotes have as much precision as his editing patterns. http://www.hindu.com/mag/2008/06/15/stories/2008061550210500.htm -- regards, Vithur HELP EVER; HURT NEVER; LOVE ALL; SERVE ALL -- Regards, Vikram http://www.vikramkumar.org
[arr] My take on JTYJN music
Source http://vikram-kumar.blogspot.com/2008/06/jaane-tu-ya-jaane-na-music-review.html Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na Music Reviewhttp://vikram-kumar.blogspot.com/2008/06/jaane-tu-ya-jaane-na-music-review.html *Movie - Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na* *Director - Abbas Tyrewala* *Music Director - A.R. Rahman **Lyrics - Abbas Tyrewala * **An A.R. Rahman album is mostly the one with an experience outside this world and with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (JTYJN) Rahman again solidifies this fact. The launch vehicle for Imran Khan (Aamir's nephew) couldn't have had a better start than this. Two weeks after the audio release a couple of songs are already topping the charts. So here is my take on the songs. *Track -1 , Kabhi Kabhi Aditi - Rashid Ali *Undoubtedly the best song of the album, this song has a young feel to it. The talent of newcomer Rashid Ali is very well exploited in this song. This one pleases your ear from the first go itself. We need to lookout for Rashid Ali, he definitely has got a jumpstart to his career. ** *Rating 9/10* *Track -2 , Pappu Can't Dance - Benny Dayal, Naresh Iyer, Satish Chakravarthy, Aslam, Blaze, Tanvi, Bhargavi *On the first listening this never looked like a Rahman track, and in addition the unorthodox lyrics by Tyrewala didn't help either. But after a few listening this peppy young song does catch up with you and its presence is now all over the music channels. I assume that this song may be enjoyed well on the big screen when the movie releases and the list of singers in the song act as a fresh breeze. * * ** *Rating 7.5/10 * *Track - 3 , Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hain - Runa *One of the songs with typical Rahman songs which grows on you with each listening. Has a nice pleasing melody and good vocals by Runa. Incidently after the aditi song this is another song which contains the name of the title Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na within the song. Surely some innovative lyric writing for the movie. * * *Rating 8/10 * ** *Track - 4 , Nazre Milana Nazre Churana- Benny Daya, Satish Chakravarthy, Sayonara, Darshana, Svetha, Bhargavi, Anupama * **One of my favorites for this album whose video is now on air on music channels. Again unorthodox mix of English and Hindi form lyrics for this song and gives it a pretty young feel. Multiple singers in the song add that peppy college feel to the song. * Rating 8.5/10* ** * Track - 5 , Tu Bole- A.R. Rahman *This is definitely very different which Rahman has ever explored both with music and his own singing. This song can be categorized as jazz/blues and really well executed by rahman. Though this does not in the league Lukka Chuppi ,Jaage Hain or Khwaja Mere Khwaja but it's totally different from anything attempted before hence we would need to look out for this. I suspect that this might be the title song for the movie. * * *Rating 8.5/10 * ** *Track - 6 , Kahin To- Rashid Ali, Vasundhra Das * slow number with Rashid Ali again doing a tremendous job with his vocals. This song is pretty hummable and should catch up after the release of the movie. *Rating 7/10 * ** *Track - 7 , Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai - Sukhwinder Singh *A slow version of the song by the same title sung by Ruma. This also has a different set of lyrics but does not loose the original magic touch. Sukhwinder Singh as expected is dependable and delivers the good pretty well. * * *Rating 8/10 * *Track - 8 , Pappu Can't Dance (remix) - *I was never a big fan of x and this song makes my belief stronger. Not sure why we ever need to remix a song like 'Pappu Can't Dance which originally is a party number and pretty good. * * * *So the final verdict as for most Rahman album is that it is a must buy if you are a music lover. A couple of songs (like Aditi and Nazre Milana nazre Churana will stay in our mind for a long time). *Final Album Rating - 8/10* -- Regards, Vikram http://www.vikramkumar.org

Re: [arr] A.R. Rahman announces a tie-up of 'Ada' with Nokia Big Music
However since Rahman had made 10 tracks for us which were nice romantic numbers I decided to retain them in this film. So looks like these tracks were composed almost 7 years back. But i am sure all of them would be real gems. On Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 7:43 PM, Vithur [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: http://www.bollywoodhungama.com/news/2008/04/29/11312/ A.R. The film's music has been composed by music maestro A.R. Rahman and die-hard Rahman fans not just have a chance to enjoy his music but also play around with it. Yes, you heard it right for the first time ever Nokia along with Big Music and A.R. Rahman gives listeners a chance to remix two tracks from this film. The winner of this contest (who will be chosen by the music legend himself) gets a chance to spend one day with him and remix two of the songs of *Ada * in Rahman's studio. *Bollywood Hungama* spoke to producer-director Tanvir Ahmed, who seemed pretty excited by this unique concept, Big Music has the music rights of my film *Ada-a way of life*. Rahman has composed some wonderful tunes and through Nokia's newly launched Xpress Music mixer application, listeners have a chance to remix two of Rahman's songs from the soundtrack of the film. It's a very unique and innovative concept We also decided to get some more details on the film and its cast, *Ada- a way of life* is a film which has many different layers. It's a love story with a social, spiritual, family and crime angle to it. The cast comprises of debutant actor Ayaan Ahmed and Nauheed Cyrusi who play the romantic lead. Apart from them we have Rahul Roy and Ayesha Jhulka who play the role of the parents and there is also Saurabh Dubey who plays the antagonist, said Tanvir We also quizzed the director on the status of the film. Well the film is complete, the post-production is currently going on now. As for the music, we had a formal launch at the Nokia event yesterday but the music should be in stores by May 6. The film would release after two months. Said the director For those who came in late, we at *Bollywood Hungama* had earlier reported of director Tanvir Ahmed's plans of making a film titled *Ada* which was to star Big B and Dilip Kumar in the year 2001. So we decided to get the facts straight from the director if this is the same project or a different one considering the title is one and the same, Yes I had decided to make a film called *Ada* long time back We had decided to make it on a grand scale with some big names and Rahman had composed the music for us after * Lagaan*. Mr. Jhamu Sugandh was supposed to produce the film but things didn't work out and the project didn't take off due to certain reasons. Now my film *Ada- a way of life* only has the same title but it is a completely fresh and different story which is more relevant in today's times. However since Rahman had made 10 tracks for us which were nice romantic numbers I decided to retain them in this film. Incidentally, debutant Ayaan Ahmed happens to be director Tanvir Ahmed's son, so is this, like a launch for him, Nothing of that sort. It's just that I was finding a new hero for this fresh love story and he suited the character aptly. He has been able to carry off the role well and I am happy, signs off Tanvir Ahmed. -- regards, Vithur Whatever God wants to give, no one can deny; Whatever God wants to deny, no one can give. It is learnt that Aamir who was known for his ghost direction for most of his movies, repeats history, yet again. Aamir's next production Jaane Tu Yaa Jane Na marks the debut of his nephew Imraan Khan. However Mansoor Khan who was a recluse from the Bollywood circuit for several years, decided to make a come back when he came to know that his cousin Nauzhat's son Imraan is making his debut in this film. Needless to say, Aamir and Mansoor both are very particular that the film has to be a right film for Imraan's career, hence both are keeping a check on everything, from scripting to directing. The two are so engrossed that they have apparently forgotten that a known writer Abbas Tyrewala, is the director of the film. A unit hand informs that Aamir has been involved since the scripting stage of the film. Abbas Tyrewala is one of the best known script writers of the film, but as usual Aamir gives his creative inputs. Things were okay till the scripting and direction stage but now the film is complete, revealed the unit hand. Continuing on the same vein, the insider said, But when Tyrewala started editing it, Aamir began attending the editing room more often. Earlier he gave some inputs but later when the director did not agree with his views, Aamir started intruding more and made changes accordingly. Once when Tyrewala disapproved of Aamir's excessive involvement with the editing of the film, Aamir was enraged. Finally Aamir had a heated argument with the director. It can be recalled that Jane Tu Ya Jane Na was initially supposed to be produced by Jhamu Sughand but however things didn't fall in place and Aamir came to rescue his nephew's debut project. Aamir chose A R Rehman instead of Himesh Reshmmiya who was supposed to compose the music of JTYJN. Aamir is infamous for his interfering act. Before this he was known for interfering in Amol Gupte's work and eventually he ended up directing Tare Zameen Par which marked his directorial debut. This time he is producing his second as a producer but Aamir showed more interest in scripting and editing of this film. It won't come as a surprise to anyone if Aamir drops director Abbas's name as a director, opines the source. Forget about Veerapandi, dilsere and athiradhi..even Chinni Aasai,...tu hi re, en kaadhale, raasaathi, nila kaigurathu, dheemi dheemi, anarkali..and bolo guru are soo complex either with tune or vocals or chorus or something else.
