Thousands flock to catch A R Rahman in action

Piling up one exciting showbiz piece after another, and unfolding against
dazzling, fast changing backgrounds, with over a dozen dancers and acrobats
adding additional thrills, the *A R Rahman Jai Ho Concert: The Journey
Home World Tour *got on to a rousing start in New York on Friday,
continued in Atlantic City the next day, and arrived in DC-Virginia on
 Sunday.

An estimated 24,000 people saw the show in three days which will be moving
to cities across America and Canada before going to London and a handful of
 European cities.

The concert with its eclectic mix of music including rousing songs from
such films as *Jodhaa Akbar* and *Roja* and foot-tapping numbers from *Jane
Tu...Ya Jaane Na,* also included a tribute to classicist Bade Ghulam Aki
Khan (by Hariharan) and the king of pop Michael Jackson (by Rahman). It has
been drawing such huge, capacity full crowds at each venue.

Rahman is always big but now with winning the Oscars and Grammy awards, he
is even more powerful, said man in his 50s.

None can resist his music. When the *Rang De Basanti* title song was
played, I was also dancing in the isle. And I saw around me there were
hundreds of kids, some of them must be in high school, dancing and singing.
This was a show that had everything, music and spectacles.

Nov '09 is the second lowest in 5 years .. for the activity in the group.
If you exclude vithur's mails the count would be something like 300.. which
would take it to lowest 5 of the decade! Does the group really have 15000
members?

don't worry.. we can get hold of it.

this one was part of Michael Jackson Friends concert - Sunday June 27th

ARR's part was for only 10 min from 5:45pm to 5:55pm as per schedule.
check out the detailed reports here ...

this is a clip of the crowd at the venue before MJ's arrival...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ua-JIu5Qsos

*ok now, if arr fans are really determined.. if arr fans are more dedicated
than MJ's fans, we can surely get hold of ekam satyam.*

we certainly cannot get hold of the studio recorded version because of its
legal implications.. but we can definitely find the concert version. contact
as many MJ fans as possible, contact the organizsers of the concert at
munich, the indian sponsor Hinduja Foundation.. try to get hold of as many
footages of the concert as possible.. official or otherwise... dig through
all of them .. (its important to note that MJ wasn't present for ARR's
part.. so, most of MJ's fans were outside the stadium waiting for him)... or
park in front of bharat bala's home in large numbers and ask him..

*is it worth the effort? you guys decide...*

ekam satyam means one truth.
it is very likely that whoever holds the rights to it will want to wait
longer .. may be even 20-30years .. in order to rake up the value and make
huge money out of it..

couldn't agree more.. the inavertently hilarious climax did
evoke spontaneous and unexpected boisterous laughters over here as well..
the poor audience were like totally caught off-guard.. and actually rolled
over the edge of their seats onto the floor laughing.. an authentic
jaspal-bhatti thriller!

strangely, even the last week's couples retreat wihch was shot on a
screensaver island like blue's bahamas and sharks was a total dud which
just capitalized on a dry weekend with no other promising release. peter
billingsley would do well taking some lessons on making a comedy from
anthony d'souza

ARR did a splendid job like a true professional and delivered a winner in a
genre that he didnot touch upon before.. there are some good punjabi hip-hop
and rock pieces in the BGM.. hope someone can get them out here. and I
honestly think that the chiggy-wiggy fiasco with kylie is most likely due to
the director's interference
and remember, during the audio release itself, ARR gave a hint saying not to
expect too much.

We guys have to accept that 'Blue' is a huge failure!! Somebody had said

know that the first day numbers are all because of the pre-release hype!!
Also, the flops 'Kambakkht Ishq' had collected Rs.7.5 Crore on the first
 day, though it flopped!!
Also, the film is worth nothing, I went to the film very excited as it was
the first underwater film in India, but came out yawning.Lara Dutta's
bikinis can't save the film, neither can Kylie Minogue with her Chiggy-Wiggy
jig! And Katrina, she is great!! She proves it again to everybody even in
her 7 minute 20 second cameo that she cannot act!!
The so called action sequences for which, allegedly, crores of rupees have
been spent are the only ones worth watching!!
The great BG work by ARR makes it really interesting!
Reul Pookutty's work is also commendable!
Anthony also picks jaw-droppingly beautiful locations like the Bahamas!
But the low IQ dialogues and the weak script make it a dim-witted thriller!
Also, the Climax is inadvertantly hilarious!! You will be laughing at
places where you should be glued to the screen!!
All I say is Blue is totally washed up and is going to sink into the sea
 without a trace!!
All those ones who said ARR makes a wrong choice in picking films is
absolutely pointless, because doing such a film is a challenge and you
should be appreciating ARR sir instead of criticizing him..
Well, it is not like I had many expectations from 'Blue', but it
 disappointed me!
Anyways, I'm all geared up for Mani Ratnam's Raavan starring Abhishek
Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vikram and Shankar's Endhiran-The
Robot starring Rajnikanth and Aish again!

get film song examples for all these ragas to help the new generation enjoy
and understand the beauty of ragas by being able to relate to them.

So what better way to develop appreciation for carnatic music than by
showing its influences on popular music. That will be very educational and
inspiring for people I think... especially now that Rahman has attracted
quite a bit of interest from the west, and they will be keen to find out
more about him, I would like to make information about ragas available to
 the west

This way, the west will also have a better understanding of the
musical history that has given birth to a soul such as Rahman.

I found this website that gave a small sample of ragas that
corresponded to different songs Rahman has done:
http://prabhuthemusiclover.tripod.com/arrahman/id3.html

However, I am hoping someone (or several people), would help me

is by ARR, he said I did not see anything special (sadly enough. may
because it was in bad quality. also we know that ARR's music grows
  but he does not).
I am a known JA basher so I thought I can say about this song also.

khwaja song might be holding additional value for muslims due to its
religious connotations, and for general fans it might have got some
 high
weightage due to the anecdotes of ARR having composed it already and
then AG using it in the film.

But as a song, I find khwaja song quite barren and monotonous if I can
say that. It is a sort of introvert song giving a feel that a person
must be singing it within his heart and mind. It is his personal
pleasure. Others would not be able to connect to it.

Firstly, the song has some 1:20 initial alaaps that are quire boring to

say and kill the entire beauty of song that comes after that. It is
 more
like the sounds generated when a player tunes up his instruments
before starting to really play it up. Such a long wasted part is a sin
in current busy time. Those ya khwaja ji, moinuddin, gareeb nawaz are

without any lyrical or music value. So, I think the start itself is
  badly thought up.

But then the song starts with lovely music BUT, BUT BUT poor lyrics. A
typical lack of creativity in the monotonous, logically-built up
lyrics as is usually the case with Javed Akhtar.

  Khwaja Mere Khwaja
  Dil Mein Sama ja
  Bebaso ki Taqdeer
  Tu ne hai sawari

There is no rhyming, no deep devotion. All that dil mein sama ja type

of phrases had been used a 1000 times in cheap ladki-pataao songs in
 60s
and here he comes up with that in a 21st century devotional song.

I would say that the major failure of the song remains in the poor
lyrics. Then, it fails in arrangements of vocals. None of the voices
carry and ethos and pathos. They are just singing an any song, not a
religious song for the most respected muslim personality of Indian
subcontinent. pronunciations are also not clear. that bebaso ki taqdeer

tu ne hai sanwari, has bebaso and tu ne pronounced so pooorly that one
has to strain to hear it and make the meaning of it. Sad that it is our

  man himself.

And then Tere darbaar mein khwaza noor ko mainne dekha has noor
pronounced so poorly by our man himself, and then there are alaaps, and

then the music gives the impression that the line is going to be
repeated, tere darbar mein khwaja - but they drop the line
unceremoniously and begin another line - sar jhukaate hain auliya.
What was so great in mentioning that auliya sar jhukate hain, so what,
is that why you feel respect for him? I think the respect should have
come from within, not due to seeing how others are respecting him.

and then tu hai khwaja - rutaba hai pyara chahne se tujhko
mustafa ko paya that xxx is still not clear to my aging ears. and

I don't get what exactly is the concept. No rhyming, no poetry, just

I would say that ARR's voice is also not as sweet enough as he is famed

Life to me is full of dualitieslight/dark, evil/good, hope/despair,
 night/day, etc.

As I listen and re-explore the vast ecyclopedia of ARR's music, hearing the
various world musical genres in fusion, co-existing and harmonizing
peacefully within a single song or album, the symbolism of that fusion and
peaceful and celebratory co-existence struck me as so important in a time
when hatred, ignorance, poverty, and violence threaten our very well being
and lives. Hearing ARR's music helps me to think about all the varied,
colorful, beautiful world cultures that surround us and the importance of
maintaining peace and harmony for our well being. As I've said before, his
music represents the best of humanitycolorful, vibrant, tolerant,
 peaceful, going beyond artificial boundaries.

There are only a few things in this life, in this world right now that are
giving me hope for a better future for humanity. ARR's music is one of those
things. At the risk of sounding ideal and naive, why can't we live
peacefully? Why can't we raise our children with peace and tolerance,
teaching them good valuea that promote peacful co-existence and tolerance
with different people and cultures? I know it's complex and it's a problem
that won't just go away by itself.

ARR's music to me represents so much much more than just immediate
entertainment and mood uplifting. The philosophy behind his music, his
message has never been more important to embrace than now.

God, save us from ourselves and may peace be our future.

[arr] Official ARR fans

2009-03-13 Thread dasara bullodu
Here is the criteria for *official arr fan* title that I came up with. I
believe this is a true test to seperate out water from milk, rhetoric from
substance and, show-off from devotion. real arr fans thrive on his songs and
music and melody. sending 100 mails a day doesn't qualify someone to be an
arr fan. there are people who are fan of being a fan of arr. we are not
interested in knowing whether you are a fan or not. all the self-proclaimed
fans can judge themselves if they really deserve this title.

just take these two quizzes.. with 3 minutes time limit for a total of 40
questions. maximum two attempts for each question. after you are done, use
the following table and judge yourself.
http://www.s-anand.net/blog/a-r-rahman-songs/
http://www.s-anand.net/blog/a-r-rahman-hindi-songs/

If your total score , T is

36 T 40 == You are Officially True and Honest Rahman fan.

31  T  35 == Official Rahman fan

26  T  30 == just another arr fan

T 25 == well, you may give a title for yourself cuz we aint bothered if
you boast abt being arr fan

Thanks to Anand for his quizzes. Please comment on whether you think the
criteria for earning the title and rules for the test are just reasonable or
too stringent or too lenient.

Hi all fellow fans of (ARR (MY GOD)

I have been a deciple of MY GOD ARR ever since ROJA was created.

Just wanted to share a very memorable situation tat had happened way back
in 2003 Feb, I was working in night shift and that evening there was a Live
in concert by A R Rahmanji and this venue was abt 50kms away from my place
in HYD. Slept hardly for sometime (as I was very excited to watch the show)
none of my 4nds turned up (was actually planning to go with my 4nds as i did
not had a vehicle)but I was very determined. Some how managed to pick a
katara scooter and travelled all the way to the venue all alone and had
great great fun. I still remember every moment of it.

Rahmanji, A great musician, a great singer, a great composer on top of all
A WONDERFUL AND GREAT HUMAN BEING.

Having said the above I am not trying to prove that I am a big fan of ARR
all I wanted to say is that I have learnt several things from the show, like
love for others and respect for others. MY GOD once said *Be a good son
to your parents; Be a good husband to your wife and Be a good father to your
son, and that would make you a good friend to me AR
 Rahmanhttp://rahmaniac.wordpress.com/biography/
 *.

So all I wanted to conclude my e-mail with is, lets not differentiate
ourselves. Just love each other, respect each other and I strongly believe
that it would make us reach our god ARR one day.

 Thanks,

 Regards

Hindi is my mother tongue but i never heard shekhar to mean Lord Shiva.
I think shekhar is a general terms for someone who is at peak/ pinnacle.

please see this for other names of lord shiva.

recieving oscar on Shivaratri is nothing short of a divine
intervention. It is indeed because of his dad's blessings like

for the whole week I lost my breath.. I think I am slowly recovering from
the dizzying events of the past week. this was long pending honor and
recognition for arr. and his words of love for the acceptance speech came

also spoke about the power of democracy and suggested all his fans should
follow democracy. India being the world's largest democracy is getting its
due finally... jai ho india
