But U must accept that, due to Rahman's busy schedule, there is heavy pressure on him. So he cannot handle the arrangements' department alone. So, he uses 6-8 people for the same. So, U cannot expect the complete Rahman magic in the arrangements or BGMs. That is just because time doesnt permit Rahman sir to handle everything alone. Till around 2005, ARR concentrated on doing minimal work, with maximum quality. So he handled most of the things alone, and there was magic in every layer. But since, many people brought allegations that ARR is not accepting many offers, and he is disappointing the directors, ARR had to change his strategy, since the human-being in him did not want anyone to be disappointed. So, he had to delegate his arrangement work to many, due to the busy schedule. After the oscars, this pressure has tripled, and so has the quantity. So, no one can blame ARR here for taking up projects, or not finding magic in his songs. Do wait for 'Battleship' , his upcoming big project in Hollywood. For me, these defining experiences happened during those years that I was a student of AR Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory. As I look back on that journey that has evolved me into making music my life and profession I feel KMMC happened a little late in my life but I strongly feel it couldn't have come at a more right moment than this. I had a keen interest in music since childhood, listening along with my grandfather to his thousands of carnatic collections including M.Balamuralikrishna, Thyagaraja, Ramadas, and many Annamayya Keerthanas and instrumentals. I recall composing rough tunes for fun, even before I started learning music formally. But it wasn’t until AR Rahman happened, that my passion for music grew beyond words. I became a devout fan of Rahman Sir ever since Bombay had released. I remember skipping my school continuously to go to the theatre where Bombay was being played just to listen to the music and the background scores. And with each of his releases after that, his music became a daily fuel for me. I had completed my Engineering degree in Chennai and was working a mundane software job. Of course, my body was there, but my ears, mind and thoughts were just tunes, melodies, rhythm and one man- AR Rahman. So when I heard news that Rahman Sir was going to open his own music school here in Chennai, which offers courses in western classical music, various areas of music technology, instruments, and vocals, I thought to myself, “If I wanted to give my passion for music a chance to grow and give a chance to live my dream-job as a composer, THIS was it.” And what better opportunity to learn at an institution developed by a man who I worshipped and looked up to for so many years. So without hesitation I applied for an audition. Now I wasn’t at all sure I would get in and did not even tell my family or anyone else about applying to the school. I thought to myself by auditioning I would at least catch a glimpse of the school and studio, and if lucky catch a glimpse of Rahman Sir. So I was super surprised and was just in utter disbelief when I got that call of acceptance and my family was even more shocked when I told them that I am going to resign my job and join KMMC. So here I was literally on cloud 9, about to begin a journey that I had only dreamt of all these years. In KMMC I took western classical vocals and composition as a major with a prior knowledge in carnatic vocals and keyboard. As soon as I entered the conservatory compound on the first day, I could just feel the aura of positive energy all around. The school had almost like a homely and soothing atmosphere with wooden floors and furniture, accented with warm curtains, large middle-eastern rugs, a beautiful grand piano and a picture of Rahman sir's father in the main reception area. More than this it was my fellow classmates from all corners of the world, and the amazing faculty that made those years the most memorable. Moreover, being part of KMMC I saw Rahman Sir in a whole different light, and my respect and devotion towards him grew to infinite lengths. During the first week he came and interacted with us in person and asked us our ambitions and goals. I still remember when I asked Sir at that time to hum a few lines of New York Nagaram, what he said in response will forever stay with me. He said. Guys don't stick only onto New York Nagaram, music is beyond the regular commercial cinema. Make your mark, aim at the moon..at least you will reach the stars .I was amazed at the fact that no matter how busy he was, he used to attend almost every student recital and concert that we used to have at KM. He used to listen to us patiently and give us suggestions, advice and clarifications on any doubts we had with so much patience. And in case he was unable to make it to an

To: arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com Date: Saturday, July 31, 2010, 1:01 PM Since I started the topic, I guess I'll try to clarify some things. And sorry if I offended anyone with my initial mail, once again I apologize. And thanks for such beautiful replies. :) I expected and really missed some lines of criticisms. ;) Ok, I told that it was solely my personal opinion in that mail. So, I don't even expect if no one agrees with me here too. What I was going to say is about my music palette. Ok. I can't understand the nuances of any music. I can't identify any raga of any musical piece. But, I listen to them so carefully because I don't want to miss even a single faint sound any artist or recording artist adds in the track. I hear pure classical music (Carnatic, Hindustani, Western Classical etc). I was totally in love with the songs in my mother tongue Malayalam (not so as of now!). In semi-classical music, I am not ashamed that I take pride in saying that I have heard most of the best ones in Malayalam, and some in Tamil and Telugu. I hear Tamil film songs by Harris, Yuvan and many other composers, especially who are from KM school.:) Telugu, I know and hear some catchy numbers. Have tried all Mickey J Meyer tracks. But couldn't continue following them religiously. Kannada was foreign to me till I reached Bangalore(Raghu Dixit, Mano Murthy, Guru Kiran etc are superstars!). Bollywood mass music also I hear for 2-3 times and know that it's in templates and leave them out of my hearing list, but some still are very good..like Amit Trivedi, V-S, SEL, Pritam (his original melodies are good sometimes!) etc are also some tracks I hear. Then if I stumble upon Punjabi, Rajasthani, Manipuri etc I hear them too. Then because of the high prevalence of English music channels and many original fans (and also the so-called-fans!) of the same around me, I hear English tracks ranging from Rock to Pop to Country to Blues to Jazz to Reggae to Rap to whatever; it doesn't matter to me. Another dimension is the film Soundtracks or the OSTs. If I hear any piece, I get it from IMDB or else, I get them from net by searching in the net. If I understand that it's not English and if there is no info on soundtracks (now many sites maintain though! still some obscure movies are hard to find!), I hear it may be 10-20 times and get a word or a phrase and search them in the net and finally I'll get them. There are lot of tidbits info too I get with them, which makes me realize that World music and movies are far more enriching and brilliant than the normal English stuff. Ok, again that's my opinion. Latin American Music also is another area of exploration. Then I hear completely Electronica, Techno, Trance etc So, 1. This is all what I hear in MUSIC. :) 2. I understand only Malayalam, Tamil (not so completely!), Hindi and English. :) 3. And which track I like and not like, no one will know. It remains to myself. :) So, in simple words, I hear some intelligent fusion of the different genres and elements mentioned in what's mentioned above, coming together when ARR does many tracks. I can trace them from the beginning of his film music career (but dont' ask me, it's a sub-conscious process!!). So, personally when I see him collaborate with many other artists, I wholeheartedly wait for the product and mainly I want to see what are they adding to ARR's music. And when I hear them as I said above, if I like them or not, that info will stay with me and me only. :) If I sounded like boasting about myself (even I feel so now after reading it once!), I can only request you all to consider this a clarification. And I am still exploring all these interesting genres and ranges of music.. :) Sorry for this long mail (Initial mail was better I guess!!)take care you all. I feel ARR should calculate everything accordingly so that his time is not lost for waste. In the west, he has a good name after SDM movie, but he has not released anything to attract them after SDM. Couples retreat was not a big hit in the west to attract them. My only worry is ARR should not be told as a 1 time fluke md in west and he should prove who he is to the west by signing important projects which he will get fame and recognition. In india, also, we dont have much projects from him after this year. only 1800 love and Rockstart are there. no more releases after that. Sultan is a gone case. I completely second Aakarsh to every point he has made including about Rajshri's lyrics. This album should have been made in Tamil also, so I can avoid listening to the telugu version. Puli has been a disappointment to me, not music wise and sound wise, but as a whole. It's been a curse that I am a telugu, and that and that alone is preventing me from enjoying this album completely. Lyrics are a bit trite, except for here and there, and the pronuciations kill it further. I can appreciate the stylized pronunciations in Power Star song, but in Amma Thalle and Maham Maham, the pronunciations rob the song completely, Naresh Iyer's and Javed Ali's. I cringe when Javed Ali says Chekumukhi and Sashimukhi.. .Karthik has better telugu pronunciation and would have made Amma Thalle completely satisfying. Its like making a gourmet biriyani but then using sugar instead of salt. It might still be good, have all the beautiful aromas and all, but u cannot enjoy it to the hilt. Before excusing the lyrics here saying that this is commercial album, consider Premikudu, Gentleman. Along with Roja, Donga Donga and may be one or two other albums, these are the only ARR albums I listen to in telugu (the great Rajshri was an awesome talent). Everything else its in either Tamil or Hindi, just because I dont know those languages. In my humble opinion, if these issues are taken care of, most of ARR's songs would be of even higher standard, have a longer shelf life etc. Puli being a big banner straight release for ARR after a while, these languages issues should have been taken care of. --- In arrahmanfans@ yahoogroups. com, Aakarsh aakarsh...@. .. wrote: I think ARR is oblivious about it. Or if he is aware and hoped for 'something different' with words axed like that, then honestly, I think it doesn't cut much with listeners. Yes, I too never understood 'Muvval Muvval' part in Sivaji. I understand if a composer has a penchant for the sound of the lyrics instead of the meaning or the actual lyrics. But it would be nice if that is applied to a word that is new or slang word. Like 'Masakkali'. But it would rob the beauty of language, when lyrics are axed, just to make them sound musically good. Because, how can incomplete words ever sound musical? Past, Present or Future, be it anytime - A composer can really touch people's hearts provided his music has good lyrics. it is understandable that language is a problem for ARR but like I said, the lyric writer or language coach for singers should help ARR and tell him that something is not sounding right. I would like to share a small anecdote, narrated by Gulzar. Composer R.D.Burman too was fond of sound of words rather than their meanings. Whenever he liked the sound of any word, he used to pick that word and played around and made tunes out of that. While composing the songs of Gulzar's film Aandhi, when RD came across the word Nasheman, he loved it and insisted on using it. He didnt know the meaning and remarked Yeh Nasheman kaunsa Shehar Hai yaar. Gulzar used it as Tinkon Ke Nasheman tak, is mod se jaathe hai. In short, it would be even more wonderful of sound of the words are given equal priority with diction, pronunciation and meaning. My all time favourite was Late Rajasri, who wrote lyrics for initial albums of ARR. He wrote them in such a way that we never felt that they were dubbed films. So much of lyrical value and depth in thought, that I never wanted a tamil version of Roja or Donga Donga. YMC is like a poetry and it will change the conception of Telugu movies in the future. I worked for many romantic and tragic films in the past. All my tragedies and romantic films had dramatic situations. But YMC is completely natural without any dramatization. It’s a sensitive movie.”Seenu Vytla said, “Some hit flicks take industry backwards and some hits take industry forward. YMC belongs to the second category.”Surender Reddy said, “YMC has woven magic on me. I had seen only two films thrice in the last seven years. These are 3 idiots and YMC.”Sumanth said, “Lots of people are comparing it to Geetanjali. Naga Chaitanya was born during the announcement time of Geetanjali movie. He used to stop crying when we shown him Geetanjali film when he was a kid. There has to be some connection. After watching the movie I messaged Chaitanya saying that YMC is going to be his Geetanjali.”Nagarjuna said, “I want to thank Manjula and Sanjay for casting Naga Chaitanya in YMC. The real heroes of the movie are Gowtam Menon, AR Rahman, Manoj and other technicians. It would have been really nice if they graced this function. Samantha did extremely well. I will watch YMC again and again for Jessie. I was in Kulu Manali when YMC was released. Lots of people called me and messaged me that YMC is good. All prominent directors called me and appreciated YMC.”Naga Chaitanya said, “I started getting tensed after watching the preview of YMC a few days before release. We tried something new and it is an out of the box movie. People are remembering Karthik and Jessie characters instead of actors. I am very happy for that. I want to thank Manjula and Sanjay for giving me this project even before the release of Josh. They entrusted me with their faith.”

http://idlebrain.com/research/ramblings/ramblings-yemayachesave.html Honesty is an undermined, undervalued, and an underestimated emotion in telugu movies. That, subtlety would often not register with the audience is often quoted as the reason for the makers to go with the broad gestures even when dealing with the tenderest of feelings. And the amped up dialogues that go with the loud tone of the scene automatically makes a mockery of the original intentions. While tone-deafness stands on one side of the spectrum, on the other side stands artificial, manufactured emotions, that aim less at conveying the honesty of the scene and more at spoon-feeding the intentions to the audience. While Puri Jagannadh's heroes go for the loudness, Mani Ratnam's, answer for the artificiality, when dealing with love. And right in the middle of these two extremes, lies honesty. And only a handful of movies - Maro Charitra, Geetanjali, Nuvve Kaavali - achieved the perfect balance, where the emotions never seem forced and the situations never appear contrived, just for the convenience of the story or characters. Whatever points of conflict that the characters might have to face along the way, are already accepted as the pre-conditions, and the rest of the movie is about how they fare, given the hardships. In 'Geetanjali', the terminal illness of the lead characters, in 'Maro Charitra', the culture conflict, 'in 'Nuvve Kaavali', the friendship-love transition, are all laid out before hand. These movies are about how the characters deal with the conditions and come out on the other side - successfully, and sometimes, not so. And after very very long time, here finally is a telugu movie that honestly deals with love and love alone, with a sincerity that is not often seen in telugu movies. One could go as far as claiming this movie as a 'never before' in telugu, for the audacity that Gautam Menon has taken up, scripting what is essentially a two-character stage play, where all that the two roles do is nothing but bear open their souls and talk about what it really feels like inside and the talk is direct, honest and heart-felt. The characters don't just stop at proclaiming their love for each other and start basking in the benefits the new found status provides, but they constantly work at - break-ups, patch-ups and all - word by word, brick by brick. And the choice of rooting the characters in reality becomes a double-edged sword to deal with, after the initial eye-fluttering sweet-nothings phase. While it takes away the comfort of faux-conflicts that similar love stories take advantage of, it offers the benefit of providing a fresh, contemporary, real-world view of how today's characters feels about their emotions and obligations, that the rest of the world has to contend with too. Here there are no gun-toting, weapon-wielding cruel villains to keep the couple in question apart. The problems they face are every day life's - age, cultures, personalities - and the conversations they have to chip away at them, pertain to the same world as the average man. Here problems are not made up or far fetched and neither the resolutions, easy and convenient. Menon sets himself up with bare-bone issues - culture and personality - and doesn't give himself any leeway by making one side evil, and the other noble, and on top of it, focuses for much of the movie, solely on the lead couple. There have been movies populated with meager characters before ('Yaadein', 'Show', 'Kaun' etc), but never before a love story where what works for and against the characters, are the characters themselves. This is Menon's movie - Menon, the dialogue writer. The screenplay providing just the right platform, Menon unleashes some of the most engaging conversations that never feel 'written' and never calling attention to themselves. And one particular sequence, lasting a good 10 minutes, where the heroine for the first time reciprocates the hero's feelings, deserves a sound applause. The sequence never cuts away, camera stays constantly on the characters faces, while they engage in a dialogue that feels real and sincere. And same goes with the break-up sequence later in the movie (easily rivaling the benchmark set by the hero's profession of love towards the heroine in 'Nuvve Kaavaali'). As the movie progresses and the focus grows more and more on the couple, the conversations start growing in intensity and delve more into the personalities, revealing the underlying complexities of the characters and situations. And the challenge to make each and every conversation interesting, and importantly, about something, builds with each passing scene and Menon's words grow just as interesting. In 'Vettaiyadu Vilayadu' ('Raghavan'), in the first romantic interlude between Kamal and Jothika, there is hilarious dialogue, when Kamal continues talking to Jothika in quick bursts with not enough words

[arr]Ye maya chesave Mvie review, AR Rahman c lean bowled every one with his songs. Goutam Menon did real ‘maya’!!
http://www.greatandhra.com/ganews/viewnews.php?id=19470cat=1scat=12 Film: Ye Maya Chesaave Rating: 3.5/5 Banner: Indira Productions Cast: Naga Chaitanya, Samantha, Krishnudu, Tanya, Surekha Vani, Sanjay Swarup, Devan, Lakshmi, Puri Jagannadh, Trisha Alex and others Music: A R Rahman Cinematography: Manoj Paramahamsa Editing: Anthony Story, screenplay, direction: Gautham Menon Producers: Manjula, Sanjay Swarup Release date: 26/02/2010Oscar winning music director and India’s pride AR Rehman scored for a Telugu movie after a very long time. Goutam Vasudev Menon, a class director who makes movies with his heart has come up with an interesting title ‘Ye Maya Chesaave’. When looked at its Tamil title ‘Vinnathandi Varuvaya’, I understood it means ‘vennela daati vastaava’…sounded something interesting. At the same time I understood it’s a movie just for a set of audiences but not for everyone.I entered the theatre carrying the same opinion and also doubted a bit if I fall in that ‘set of audience those may like this flick’. I was looking the blank white screen in front of me and the censor certificate appeared. Yes, the movie started. The titles started rolling…but in a very different fashion where I haven’t seen so far. The taste of director is understood for showing creativity even in that minute detail. And I didn’t carry away with that. I have many experiences of watching many bad movies those started with interesting things…After 10-15 minutes, I understood that I’m getting disconnected from the narration. I didn’t understand what I was watching. Was that a documentary on interstate love? Or a video on Kerala Tourism? Or a Malayalam learning class? I also heard some murmurs from back seats. The Re-Recording didn’t appeal at all. It sounded like a 10 year old TV serial. Every aspect started appearing disappointing and erratic for me.But don’t know what magic worked, I have forgotten myself after a while. It’s a saga into nostalgia. It’s a journey into feel. It’s an odyssey into a passionate pleasure of life. Verdant Kerala, vibrant songs, jubilant age, vigilant father, elegant heroine, radiant hero and latent mood started dancing in symphony holding my heart strings. That was a blissful moment from then.Samanta…!! The gal is like a madrigal. She is gifted with poetic features and she has very bright future. Goutam Menon placed her on right platform. Her poetic eyes, expressive lips, impressive looks and every aspect of her histrionics proved that she is a beauty with talent.Naga Chaitanya deserves very good commendations for his portrayal. He has shown maturity just in his second movie…Still he needs to grow, but for the role of a hero who is two year younger than heroine, he did right justice and none other would have grooved in the role so well. However, he must flex his face muscles to show the pain and emotion in romantic sequences in his future flicks. His dialogue delivery is good and he has a positive body language. This is a mature performance from him.Krishnudu did his bit as required, Surekha Vani was standard, Sanjay Swarup was okay, Devan didn’t have much to do, Puri Jagannadh was natural, the others contributed effectively with their performances.Dialogues by Anuradha are very natural and clear. There is no drama but truth in every word penned by her. She too has bright future as scrip writer.Well, Naga Chitanya plays the role of Karthik and Samanta plays Jessie.Karthik (Chaitu) is an engineering pass out whose aim is to become a movie maker. His life takes a turn with the arrival of Jesse (Samantha), the Christian girl of the landlord Joseph (Devan). It is love at first sight for Karthik and despite the age gap and other barriers, he is blindly after her. A game of touch me not happens and Jesse says yes to him. But what lies in store for Karthik is unexpected and how his life takes a turn after that forms the rest of the story.AR Rehman clean bowled every one with his songs. Goutam Menon did real ‘maya’!!This is the movie that should be watched not with eyes but with nostalgia. This is the movie that should be understood not with brains but with hearts. Purely, this movie appeals those who have crossed their Graduate studies, Engineering studies, MBBS, MCAs and MBAs. This master piece pulls the senses of audiences with its magic despite they sit with resistance to get lured. It’s the film for class audience those are in the age group 25 ++. The second half is better than first half and the magic worked till the last. The last 15 minutes is very predictable for Telugu audience but still captivating. The closing of the film is very convincing and creative. Appearance of Trisha and Simbu in last scene attracts attention and boosts up interest. It’s a very genuine script and honest attempt. Goutam is so lucky to find producers for making a film of this sort without demanding for so-called commercial elements which have been the part of

http://idlebrain.com/movie/archive/mr-yemayachesave.html jeevi rating: 4/5 Punchline: it's a classic! Genre: Romance Type: Straight Banner: Indira ProductionsCast: Naga Chaitanya, Samantha, Krishnudu, Sanjay Swaroop, Surekha VaniMusic: AR Rahman Cinematography: Manoj Paramahamsa Editing: Anthony Lyrics: Anant Sreeram Dialogues: Anuradha Story - screenplay - director: Gowtam Vasudev Menon Producer: Sanjay Swaroop Release date: 26 February 2010 Theater watched: Prasads multiplex (screen 2), Hyderabad ReviewStory Karthik (Naga Chaitanya) is an engineering graduate who wants to pursue his career as a film director. Samantha is his neighbour and he falls in love with her at the very first sight. But there are two catches. One is that she is elder to him and the bigger hitch is that she is a Malayali Christian. He proposes to her and she slowly falls for his guts and his perseverance. Her strict father comes to know about it and settles her marriage. She loves him, but can’t hurt her entire family by marrying him. The rest of the story is all about how Karthik achieves his passion to become a film director and tastes success at the personal front.Artists PerformanceNaga Chaitanya: Naga Chaitanya is extremely natural in the role of Karthik. It is basically a conversational film with too many tight close-ups. It takes real confidence and acting prowess to do such scenes in an authoritative manner. Naga Chaitanya proves that he is a brilliant actor with his performance in this movie. His dialogue delivery and body language is highly authentic. You are not going to believe that this is his second film after watching his performance. It’s a top notch effort from him and he will do wonders in the future.Samantha: Samantha’s debut is one of the best heroine debuts in Telugu cinema. This dusky beauty is highly charming and she is cool in acting as well. The minute expressions she gave spoke volumes about her. Lots of credit should go to director for etching her beautiful characterization. I absolutely loved the voice of the artist who dubbed her. She is the same one who dubbed the voice of Sameera Reddy in ‘Surya s/o Krishnan’. It’s husky and contemporary.Others: Krishnudu is very good as hero’s friend. Sanjay Swaroop (producer and husband of Manjula) did the role of hero’s father and he suited it well. Puri Jagan played as himself for a few scenes. Trisha and Simbhu (who acted in the Tamil version of the same) did a cameo. All other actors are cast appropriately. Surekha Vani is very good.Technical departmentsStory: Men are simple and women are complex. When it comes to love, man proposes to a woman with plain heart and with no complications. Women, on the other hand make simple things complicated with their complex behaviour. Gowtam Menon has beautifully explored that point and penned a wonderful story of a simple guy who would do anything for love and a complex girl who keeps vacillating about taking decisions.screenplay - direction: Screenplay of the movie is very good. The movie could end at any point after interval. It needs tremendous narrative skills and screenplay to make people get interested in the second half because the movie can end at the moment hero/heroine converge upon on marriage. I loved the love episodes between Surya and Sameera Reddy (train scene) in Surya s/o of Krishnan and wondered when he is going to make such a story into a full-leangth feature film and Gowtam Menon answered my wish with his next movie by filling it full of magical moments and sweet nothings. It’s a astonishing work by Gowtam Menon. You can’t separate a moment from the movie to be the best. This movie is like a seamless flow of visual poetry.Other departments: Music by AR Rehman is awesome. Songs are extremely good and background score, rerecording and mixing is perfectly done. All songs are picturized extremely well. Cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa breath-taking. The choice of locations and camera work blended seamlessly. Dialogues by Anuradha are extremely natural and contemporary. Art direction by Rajeevan is superb. Editing my Anthony is flawless. Production values by Indira Productions are impeccable.Analysis: I had never seen such a wonderful movie that deals with the straightforward nature of a man and complex nature of a woman so perfectly. Everybody must have gone through these moments in their lives and you are sure to get nostalgic watching some moments in this movie. The entire movie is excellent and extremely engaging except for 10 minutes (in second half from the breakup to the scene where other female proposes him). It takes guts and tremendous conviction makes a movie like Ye Maya Chesave from the director, producer and hero (It was Naga Chaitanya who set this combination up). All three of them should be appreciated for making this movie happen. Ye Maya Chesave movie should do extremely well in multiplexes and A centers. I wish/hope/want

[arr]Telugu Lyricist's AR Rahman Kick
http://www.greatandhra.com/ganews/viewnews.php?id=19034cat=1scat=4 The Chennai Mozart A R Rahman is now no less than an icon in the world of international music and working with him would take a lot of stuff. However, our Telugu man has got that rare honor and he is none other than the noted lyricist Anantha Sriram.Apparently, Anantha Sriram is the single card lyricist for the forthcoming venture ‘Em Maya Chesaave’ which has Naga Chaitanya and the music is composed by Rahman. It is not often that a single lyricist gets to work with the Oscar award winner but Sriram bagged the rare chance. Now, some of the senior lyricists are feeling quite envious with the fortune of Sriram and all eyes are on how the people will respond to the audio. Given Rahman’s schedule, it could take a long time before he would get back to a direct Telugu film so that makes it even more special for Anantha Sriram.

Off late, I have felt that his songs were lacking the clarity it had. One of the most beautiful songs in a major album this year had an error, which was pointed out in this forum was acknowledged by his team too (not in this forum). I am not sure if it is the Sound Engineers or the programmers. The 'sound' of Blue in the CD is, in fact, pathetic. It more sounds like a studio version (work in progress) - unclear vocals, boomy sounds for chiggy wiggy (which is muffling the instrument before Sonu starts singing). The vocals are extremely bad Not sure if it is a problem in the final mix/mastering or a problem @ T-Series. I am disturbed because of this trend, and more worried coz things are not being set right. With every album, I have hoped the sound would be 'better'. but it has never been. Is ARR not looking into the final product? I dont think so, 'coz the beauty of the sound is compromised on. Re: [arr] Should ARR stop developing BGMs?
Oh no, not even in my wildest dreamsSong and BGM 'masters' ???Neways AR is a master of both! On Tue, Aug 4, 2009 at 12:00 PM, V S Rawat vsra...@gmail. com wrote: I want to understand the connection between songs in a film as against BGM of a film. Does it, and how does it help in improving the quality of the music and/ or the BGM if the same person composes songs as well as BGM, or if they are composed by different persons? Normally, I think, songs-directors are quite busy and a song has to sound unique, different from his and others' other songs, songs should have instruments and style in tune with the time and place of the movie, the lyrics should reflect the psychological profile and social background/ religion/ caste/ maturity/ education of the character singing them on the screen, so songs in a film, I think, should be requiring more efforts, and as they also get sold to public, this commercial angle also requires more efforts to be put in the songs to make people shell out money. However, BGMs could be general. Human brains are not so much attuned to find similarities between BGMs of two different films, the reason could be that BGMs are sadly not sold nor made available to public so almost all of us happen to get to hear them only once or twice when we see the film and then we tend to forget them. Another drawback could be lack of lyrics in BGM. Lyrics in a song act as place marker, an aid to remember and repeat music, so when we memorize the lyrics, the song of those lyrics gets etched in our brain, but as there are no lyrics in BGM, it is mostly hard to memorize the BGM. Thus, BGM could be general. A BGM director can even prepare a BGM bank that he can keep on giving them to different films and people would mind.. So, I think songs and BGMs are quite different area, having quite different requirement. Then, how would it help when a songs-master creates BGM or when a BGM-master creates song. In fact, I think a songs-master is more busy so he might not pay more attention in creating the BGM for the film so it might reduce the quality of the BGM if a songs-master creates them. Or, a songs-master might tend to create BGMs as lyrics-less songs, that is, in independent, individual patches like he was creating a song for a situation but just didn't add lyrics to them. I want to know whether you think ARR should concentrate on creating songs and should leave BGMs to be developed by others, :-) even though we love BGMs or any piece of created by our man? -- Rawat -- regards, Vithur

I should make you clear that the singing should be in double speed not just the music only. here are few examples theekuruvai (kangalil kaidh sei) composed by A R RAHMAN . This song is my utmost favourite. what a speedy complicated song . i just love it . it really amazes me. similarly another A R RAHMAN SONG IS PADAKILLI (yodha) its another mind blowing double speed song. in both of these songs singing is done at double speed the music also fast. i think so you would have got the idea from the examples of what i want. the song could be of any era whether new or old and from any music director or from any pop album and in any south indian language but it should be in double or more speed. now i am waiting for the replies and the songs list. ill be very thankful. regards, taimur, karachi, Pakistan. __ Do You Yahoo!? His genius stroke use of the strings section in his songs is such an outstanding quality of his music...often leaving me in awe and on cloud 9. Which songs of his have some of the best string arrangements? One of my recent favorite string arrangements was from the song Jaane Tu Meri Kya Hai sung by Sukhwinder Singh from the movie Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. I feel this song has been underrated. It's one of the most brilliantly string orchestrated songs of his IMO. There are so many, many more songs that I could comment on, but I want to hear more about them from the rest of you.

It was one of the breathtaking crowd ever seen. Calicut had its day when ARR blessed them on May 3rd. Sure, it was a day to remember for us Calicut people. Now coming to the details of the concert, I would like to mention the Plus'es Minus'es which I had felt. I am not critising ARR or his fans. This is just my opinion, so please dont create a controversy here. I also LOVE ARR as much you all do. Thanks.. Pluses - a) Great crowd, Great visual presentation accompanying each song. b) Hariharan and Chitra's singing were almost perfect, and they were the real stars of the day. c) Padakaali was a great surprise for all Mallus. It was great singing by george/benny. d) Post interval, the concert's momentum picked up and it was rocking till the end. Most fast numbers were performed post interval. e) Humma Humma, with the Carnatic beginning was astounding. f) Same with Ey Hairathe Aashique. g) ARR's fathers song which he dedicated. h) Sanjeev on the Crane and Mustafa after that. It was the highest point of the concert. The entire crowd with their mobile lights on was just a visual treat to watch. i) Khwaja was again a mere bliss to watch and hear. Azeem/Rukumani/ Veerapandi was a rocker. Minuses - a) Why was ARR not handling the Keyboard? It was so frustrating to see Stephen handling it and ARR was just as a mere singer. People who have put their hard earned money had to come to watch ARR and not Stephen. This was very disappointing. b) The concert was delayed by 40 mins which led to the downfall of momentum which had got built very high at 7 PM. c) Pre interval - the Songs/performances were very average and some people left between 8 and 9 PM. d) Where was the String section? What was the drummer doing? Was he just hitting the drums without knowing which song was playing? I felt he was a MERE SPECTATOR like us. e) Sivamani was heavily missed. Because his presence would have mad the concert more interesting and his 20 minute individual performance would have been great. f) Most of the songs had Karoake (i.e. the background track). Only the voices were Original. All background music in the songs were ditto from the CD. i.e it was not played LIVE. g) Naveen didn't have much to show his skills. We all know how much he is talented. h) Sadhana Sargam was given 2-3 songs and she was wasted. i) Only 2 Singers who are widely popular performed in this concert?? Hariharan and Chitra. Rest all are from ARR's immediate gang. i.e. who have become popular in the last 2-3 years. Where are the other singers? like SPB, Srinivas, Naresh, Sujatha, Shreya, Karthik, Sukhwinder etc. j) In some songs, only 1 Charanam was performed. k) Opening song and ARR's intro was not great and it didn't capture the audience as expected. l) ARR's singing was out-of-pitch at times. m) Hari and Sadhana having a single mike to sing Roja Janeman. I thought it was amateurish. n) At lots of places, lyrics were forgotten, some one was talking on the Mike when the song was going on. It wasn't professional. friends, I am repeating that these are my thoughts and please dont take it as a offence. I just expected more from this concert. When compared to his previous Chennai, Delhi concerts, this was a letdown.
