One more feather in Rahman's cap IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, November 20, 2007] A.R. Rahman won the `Best music composer award' for his work in Mani Ratnam's `Guru'. The award was presented at the annual Bollywood Music and Fashion Awards ceremony held at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City recently. Rahman could not be present at the venue to collect the award, as he was away from the town. Noted playback singer Alisha Chinoy was presented with the `Best female singer of the year' award for her song `It's Rocking' in the film `Kya Love Story Hai', which also won the `Best song of the year award'. A grand musical show was the highlight of the function. Krish announced that Rahman Sir would announce the result played on video. Rahman Sir spoke. A brief of what he said : Sir felt all the bands exceeded his expectations. Also he said that there were some aspects that were expected from bands, which were not exhibited by some, and some other aspects which he least expected, but was exhibited by the bands. Then came the surprise/shock of the day. Rahman ji said that he didn't like judging because it was very difficult. He also said he couldn't decide on ONE winner alone. So he had chosen 6 winners!!! *Silence* And on expected lines, the three finalists were announced as the first three winners (in no particular order). Then he announced Agam, Madras Tunes and Srishti (Yes thats us!!!) as the other 3 winners! This was the moment of my life! The biggest surprise ever. Even thrilling was watching Rahman Sir, the only inspiration behind any music we've made. watching the video of our band perform in the quarterfinals and comment on our performance. Sir said he liked our boldness of expression, and our attitude onstage, and that there was Jeevan in our music! What happened next is just a vague remembrance now... Hugs, photo sessions, the trophy and speaking to the media, thanking Rahman sir, 2 gulab jamoons, a sandwich and an ice cream..a few phone calls...Back home. May 02, 2007 We have had talent hunts of all kinds, for singers, dancers, actors, comedians and what not and now we have a talent hunt for an entire music troupe. This initiative has been taken by Sun TV and Sa Re Ga Ma. This search that is going to span the entire of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh will finally zero in on one talented group that will get a golden opportunity to make a musical album that will be released by Sa Re Ga Ma. The hunt will be quite a thorough process covering almost regions of Tamil Nadu, right from Chennai to Coimbatore and Tirunelveli touching Salem and Madurai too. A similar search will be on in Andhra. At the end of the regional search, the best teams will be required to set to tune a song written by Kavingar Vaali under the title Nambikkai (confidence). The team that impresses the most will walk away wit the big prize. The contest will be aired on Sun TV this June onwards. When the event is this big, the judges too have to be big enough to justify the event. It doesn't get bigger than this! A.R.Rahman will be judging the teams and he will be accompanied by singer-actress Vasundhara Das. The official curtain raiser for this talent hunt was held on Wed evening (May 2nd) at the Park Hotel in Chennai in which Rahman participated. The news of Rahman's presence somehow leaked and within no time there was a huge crowd outside the venue and when finally it was time for Rahman to leave it was pandemonium. Rahman was virtually engulfed by the wave of admiring fans and why not, after all this is Rahman's first real public appearance after the Sivaji audio release. The crowd did not spare any effort in making their appreciation for the wizard's music evident. But Rahman, caught in the middle of a huge crowd had a tough time. After what seemed to be a very long time Rahman finally managed to get away from the swarming fans. The organizers of any function in which Rahman has to participate please be prepared, the man has just delivered one of the biggest musical hits in the history of Tamil cinema. It would only count as common sense to expect huge crowds to gather to catch a glimpse of the man who has given them `Balleilakka', `Athiradee' and other chartbusters. As for A.R.Rahman, we have only one thing to say. Please don't feel flustered, we just don't know how else to express our appreciation. Your music is truly mesmerizing.

But our hero is chilling out in New York with some close friends. He will join the shoot on January 31, after he comes back to Chennai. The film is directed by Bharathan, long time Dharani's right hand man and a good script writer. Balasubramaniam is the cameraman, FEFSI Vijayan who has come in for praise from Vijay for his work in Pokkiri, is going to be the action director. And the highlight is A.R. Rahman's five lilting tunes. Vijay is being paired for the first time with Shriya while Namitha plays a cameo. ATM is going to be a different kind of movie, something which Vijay has not done before. He plays a character that has a negative streak in him. Says Vijay: If you ask me who the villain in the film is, well my character himself is the villain. ATM otherwise will be a typical Vijay film with all essential entertainment ingredients. Swargachitra Appachan, the one time leading Malayalam producer who has made Friends with Vijay more than six years back is the producer of the film. Actually Appachan was to start the film nearly two years back, but somehow it never materialized. Vijay has given bulk dates to Bharathan to complete the film. Since he comes from the Dharani School of direction, he is sure to take more than 100 days to shoot the film. Rehman, Vasanth, Sabu Cyril Rajiv Menon was an out-and-out entertainer, featuring some fabulous performances by Shilpa Shetty, Madhavan, Simran and many more sparkling stars. It was a musical all right, simple and to the point unforgettable and smash hit songs from old and new movies re-created on stage by the crew and the stars. No needless speeches and talk, no long-winded announcements just 5 hours of entertainment with 37 sequences by Hindi and Tamil film stars. One could not decide which was superb the artistes' performances or the mind-blowing sets! Boats and trains entering the stage as backdrops mimicking the original scores, great performances by the stars, superb behind-the-scenes work by the director and his crew, the usual perfection in music by A.R. Rehman all in all, a great show. It was wonderful to see the journey from vintage to the latest in such a fashion. There were over 25,000 people at the show. The show, originally to be held in September 2005, was cancelled due to bad weather and other problems. Vijay TV are the media partners for this event, with Samsung being the main sponsor. By Moviebuzz | Saturday, 28 January , 2006, 10:09 A few weeks back, Moviebuzz was the first to break the news about Mani Ratnam's new Hindi film with Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead. Last week Mani sir was in Mumbai to give finishing touches to this ambitious project titled Guru. Abhishek and Aishwarya were earlier paired in Kuch Naa Kaho and is now doing J.P Dutta's Umrao Jaan. The latest we hear is that Junior Bachchan will have two heroine- Ash and Vidya Balan and the search for the antagonist is on, and John Abraham seems to be the front runner. A.R.Rahman will be the music director with Gulzar's lyrics. Rajeev Menon will be the cameraman and he is teaming up with Mani sir after 10 long years after Bombay. Anurag Kashyap will helm the Hindi dialogues and the film is set in Mumbai. Mani sir hopes to prove his detractors wrong that he has not been able to taste commercial success in Hindi so far. Mani to do a Hindi film! By Moviebuzz Sunday, 25 December , 2005, 19:30 Mani Ratnam has been keeping a low profile throughout the year and hardly stirring out of his Alwarpet residence in Chennai. Now the big news is that he has signed Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai to do a Hindi film! Remember that Aishwarya Rai had made her screen debut with Mani sir's Iruvar and Abhishek Bachchan had done Yuva with him. In fact Abhishek is said to have struck a great rapport with him and was one of the few invitees for his 50th birthday early this year. Mani is a big brand in Bollywood and he is not keen to do another Tamil film especially at a time when the industry is superstar driven. This new Hindi project will start sometime in January and is said to be a matured love story which would be shot in Mumbai to give it the Bollywood feel. A.R.Rahman will be providing music and will have technicians and supporting cast from Mumbai. Meanwhile Mani is also doing some spade work for Bobby Bedi's ambitious mythology Mahabharatha. Yahoo! A.R. Rahman is a super genius December 22, 2005 Here, popular director S.J. Suryah describes the experience of working with A.R. Rahman in his own exuberant style. He is unbelievably humble. Many have seen him be a shy and reluctant guest on shows. He carries the aura of his super genius in a light and down-to-earth manner. The awesome impact he has had on the music scene seems to have left him unfazed. Because to him music is a journey inward and all the trappings of wealth and fame are superfluous. Many also think that he is not approachable easily. True, but once he strikes a rapport with you, he is the most decent guy one would get a chance to meet. He has made Indian music cross the seas and be heard in many international venues. I am really proud to rub shoulders with the guy who gave the chant of Vande mataram a modern yet dignified tone. Rang De Basanti - a winner for A. R. Rehman? IndiaGlitz [Thursday, December 08, 2005] It has been quite a while since A. R. Rehman had a Bollywood hit to his credit. Since Saathiya [2002], Rehman has had multiple releases for Hindi movies like Tehzeeb, Lakeer, Meenaxi, Yuva, Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha, Swades, Kisna, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Mangal Pandey. Sadly, inspite of good music in some of the flicks, commercially none of them went on to hit the bull's eye in a way Rehman's music used to do till around a few years back. Now with Aamir Khan's 'Rang De Basanti' promos on air, one gets a feeling that Rehman may finally have a successful musical score in hands. Currently the title song on air along with another youthful track 'Paathshaala' have made for an interesting hearing. Also the vibrant look of both the songs conveys tremendous positive energy. Back in tune IndiaGlitz Thursday, April 21, 2005 A R Rahman, who was out of action for a while in Kollywood is making a comeback with Godfather starring Ajith. Being directed by K S Ravikumar, the movie has six songs. Interestingly, Rahman has also rendered his voice for a song in the movie. It's been a long time since Rahman sung a number in Kollywood that too to lyrics penned by Vairamuthu. Rahman is also scoring music for the movie A Aah being directed by S J Suryah. Rahman says since I was busy with my commitments in Bollywood and a Chinese film, I was not able to commence any project here. However with Godfather and A Aah, I am back here. A R Rahman to be awarded By PTI Apr 08, 2005, 10:11 Indore, April. 8 (PTI): Noted music composer A R Rahman, will be presented with the prestigious Lata Mangeshkar Award for 2004-05 on April 24. Instituted by the Department of Culture, Government of Madhya Pradesh, the award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and a citation and is given every year since 1984 in honour of `Nightingale of India' Lata Mangeshkar, who was born here. Rahman will also play his selected compositions after the award ceremony, Divisional Commissioner Ashok Das, told reporters.
