Usually in interviews people ask the same question over and over but if the

 let me know.

PS: This will be my second time meeting him person, i met him few years ago

[arr] Presale Ticket Pricing vs. Regular Pricing

2010-03-24 Thread TanyaAgha
Hey all,

I've been anticipating the Oakland concert for days now. I must say I am a
little disappointed with the presale prices. For the same seat I bought back in
2007, the price has nearly tripled. Don't get me wrong, ARR is priceless and I
love him dearly but I am not sure I will be able to come up with that kind of
money.

Is anyone aware of what the prices will be like once the presale is over and
regular pricing starts? Will the prices be the same or more or less? Are tickets
going to be sold in local Indian stores?

Also, is it possible that all the tickets can be sold out during the presale
stage?

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me. If this is the case and
the tickets can be sold out, I need to find a way fast.

Thanks,

Tanya

missing it. Is it not a part of the movie's soundtrack? I would appreciate the

Down to Earth by Peter Gabriel (Re: [arr] 'Slumdog' vs. 'Wall-E' for best song)

One more thing I would like to quote - Martin Scorcese has created
better
films than his own Departed, but academy honoured him for his work in
Departed. So, let's not worry about the academy's choice and instead

have
a novelty value as international level music from India.

'Slumdog' vs. 'Wall-E' for best song
No clear frontrunner among Oscar nominees
   By JON BURLINGAME

For the third time in the past 20 years, music-branch voters
chose only
  three tunes as best
song nominees. Two are from the same movie, and two of the
singers are
  world-class world-music
   recording artists.

There is no clear-cut favorite this year, unlike, say, eight
years ago
  when Bob Dylan's win for
Things Have Changed was a foregone conclusion, or the year of
Titanic
  and its ubiquitous
Celine Dion song. What happens Feb. 22 depends several factors.

First, the Slumdog phenomenon: Both of the key songs in Slumdog
  Millionaire are nominated,
both co-written by leading Indian composer A.R. Rahman (who is also
  nominated for his original
score). The soundtrack album is rising fast on the charts, so a
Slumdog
  win would not
   surprise.

But which song? Will voters remember that it was Jai Ho that was
  performed as an elaborately
choreographed, Bollywood-style dance number in the Mumbai train
station
  at the end of the
   movie?

Jai Ho, with Indian lyrics by poet Gulzar, may be the most
talked-about
  musical moment from
year-end films. And Oscar voters, excited about the prospect of
seeing
  the number re-created on
the telecast, may be thinking about that when filling out their
ballots.
If it wins, it will be
only the second foreign-language song to do so (after 2004's Al
otro
  lado del rio from The
   Motorcycle Diaries).

But Rahman's collaboration with London-born, Sri Lankan-raised Maya
  Arulpragasam -- better
known to the pop world as M.I.A. -- on O... Saya may resonate with
  younger voters for its
pounding rhythms, electronica sound and rap-style vocals. That
song's
  used earlier in the film,
as police chase poor youngsters from an airport tarmac through the
  streets.

Slumdog's competition is the song from the end of the Disney-Pixar
  movie Wall-E, co-written
by Thomas Newman (also nominated for his score) and Peter
Gabriel. The
  nom is Gabriel's first
despite having composed scores for such films as The Last
Temptation of
  Christ and
   Rabbit-Proof Fence.

Eight of the past 20 song statuettes have gone to tunes from
animated
  movies (all Disney pics
but one). And nine of the past 20 have gone to popular artists
(including
  Gabriel's ex-Genesis
bandmate Phil Collins, for Tarzan, another Disney toon). Also,
  Gabriel's human-rights and
environmental activism would seem to coincide with the politics
of many
  Acad voters.

And, in recent years, voters have spread the Oscar wealth among
multiple
  pics. A Slumdog
score win could translate into a Wall-E song win.

Danny Boyle's acclaimed hit SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE has
reached $3.8 million at
the North American box office surpassing the $3.4 million of the
Hrithik
Roshan–Aishwarya Rai epic JODHAA AKBAR to become the
highest grossing Indian
 movie of 2008.

The Fox Searchlight release has done this after only three weeks in
theaters
while playing in only 49 locations. Released in February, JODHAA
AKBAR
played much wider in 125 theaters and earned its total gross over
nine
weeks. SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE will continue to open in more
theaters nationwide
throughout the month of December and will see its box office gross
continue
to climb. Though financed in the U.K., the film's setting, story, and
 characters are all Indian.

This past week has seen SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE add to its
impressive list of
industry accolades. It won three British Independent Film Awards
for Best
Film, Best Director, and the Most Promising Newcomer prize for 18–
year–old
actor Dev Patel. The song 'Paper Planes' by MIA which is featured
on the
SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE soundtrack earned a prestigious
Grammy Award nomination
for Record of the Year. And lastly the film was named Best Picture
of the
Year by the National Board of Review which also honored it in two
other
categories – Best Breakthrough Performance by an Actor for Patel
and Best
Adapted Screenplay (tie) for Simon Beaufoy.

[arr] Re: Have you seen any ARR film without having heard its music

2008-11-20 Thread tanyaagha
Wow, I am so glad you have brought this topic up. I am a more recent
fan, I should say, of A R Rahman. It's not that I didn't enjoy his music
before the year 2004, but I just did not know who the guy was. I mean,
I can remember listening to most of his work like Bombay, Roja, Dil Se,
Taal, Doli Saja Ke Rakhna, etc. I just never connected all these works
to one name. It wasn't until 2004 that I realized all the pieces that I
love are created by this man.

So, to answer your question, I saw the movie, Saathiya, in the winter of
2002. I was completely blown away by the first song that appeared in
the film, O Humdum Suniyo Re. Honestly, I do remember the visuals
but they did not impact my listening to the song. My deal with this
song was sort of like falling in love at first sight; in this case, first
listen. I really cannot put into words what I felt. But I must say, I do
not really remember the other songs much. Not that they were not
good because Saathiya is one of the most cherished albums I have
until date.

I made it a point to go the next day out to the local Indian stores to
purchase the soundtrack. Unfortunately or even fortunately, in terms
of the popularity of the music, it was sold out. This was okay though,
because I watched the movie in Dallas, Texas while visiting family
members. When I returned to San Jose, California, one of the first
events on my agenda was to buy the album and so I did.

If the music is good, I'll remember it regardless of whichever force be it
visuals or other external disturbances. And in my opinion, no visuals
can turn a rather boring song into a masterpiece. Visuals do enhance
music but not to the degree of extreme likability.

Happy A R Rahman listening!

 theatre/ screen?

I think, ARR's songs take time to grow, and it is impossible to
understand and enjoy their beauty in the first hearing even if it is in
a cinema hall where visuals would interfere with concentrating on the
 music on the first hearing.

 So, the question is:

Have you ever seen any ARR film without having already heard its
music
 umpteen times?

If so, how was the experience? Does visual help in liking the music,
or,
as I think, do visuals interfere?

Screwvala and A. R. Rahman. They first came together in Shah Rukh

interview with India Times, producer Ronnie Screwvala talked about
 *Jodhaa
  Akbar*.

  Here is an
 excerpthttp://www.hrithikrules.com/filmography/displayArt.php?
fname=akbarjodha/utvronie.txtmovname=akbarjodhaof
  the interview:

*After RDB's official entry at the Oscars and Life in a Metro's
roaring
international success, what records have you planned to break with
 Jodhaa
  Akbar? *

*Jodhaa Akbar is a once in a lifetime film. It is an epic love
story
 made
especially for the younger generation and is an untold story of
 Jodhaa and
Akbar. The grandeur, the sets, costumes, story, performances,
 direction...
everything is simply spectacular and thus we are quite confident
 that people
will appreciate our efforts. Having said that, Rang De Basanti and
 Life in a
Metro are blockbusters but we haven't set them as the benchmark
for
 Jodhaa
Akbar. Jodhaa Akbar is global in its appeal. It's a western film.
*

*What was your first reaction when Ashutosh approached you for
this
 film? *

*He gave me the script; I read it and gave him a call at 3 in the
 morning to
confirm my presence in the project. The film is basically a love
 story with
the backdrop of a war. The film traces the love and life journey
of
 Mughal
emperor Akbar and his Rajput Hindu wife Jodhaa. Their life from
the
 age of
13 till they are 28 is what is portrayed on screen. 'Alliance'
 marriages are
common in India and how love evolves between such couple is the
story of
  Jodhaa Akbar. *

*How has the chemistry between Hrithik and Ash shaped up? *

*Their chemistry is the USP of this film. They don't look Hrithik
or
 Ash but
they look Jodhaa and Akbar in the film. *

*Considering the film's 'historic' genre, how much research was
 conducted
and how factual is the film? *

*Every historical film needs fair amount of research and so was
the
 case of
Jodhaa Akbar. The director and story writer have made sure that
the
 film is
  factually correct.*

*Jodhaa Akbar* was supposed to be released this year but at the
last
 moment
the decision was made to release it next year. When asked about
this
 change
in schedule Ronnie Screwvala said that the movie was huge in
terms of
editing and they needed time to market the movie. Hence the delay
 has been
  made.

 A.R.Rehman]http://www.behindwoods.com/features/News/News29/10-9-

On the other hand, Allah Rakha Rahman is very optimistic with the
  music of *Jodhaa
Akbar*. This is the third time Rahman is composing music for
Ashutosh
Gowariker's movie. The music album of *Jodhaa Akbar* contains 12

 songshttp://www.behindwoods.com/features/News/News29/10-9-05/hindi-
movies-news-arrehman.html.
  The Hindu
 http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/009200710161440.htmreports:

*Jodha Akbar* is a romantic story about a king falling in love
with a
princess and I have tried to keep the music contemporary so that
it
satisfies both critics and the music lovers, he says.

The music of the film is very much what is required for the film.
 We have
celebration songs and quawallis, he adds. Rahman, who composed
the
 music of
Subhash Ghei's 'Kisna' is once again paring up with the director
in his
  latest flick, 'Yuvraaj'.

  According to Filmi

 Khabarhttp://filmikhabar.com/2007/10/10/jodhaa-akbar-music-to-
release-on-november-27/,
the music of *Jodhaa Akbar* will be launched on 27th November. On
12thOctober, the theatrical promo was released. Unfortunately,
two of
  the songs
were deducted from the movie to keep it within three hours. One of
 the songs
was a qawwali sung by A. R. Rahman. Ashutosh Gowariker first
sought
 Rahman's
consent for this deduction. Only to shoot the song, a lavish set
was
 built.
Aishwarya wanted to add those songs in her upcoming movies but
 Ashutosh has
decided to add the songs in the DVD version

Yes, we've sought permission, I don't want to be sued Catchy
track in
Kelly Poon's new album based on hit Indian composer's tune

  By Avis WongOctober 03, 2007

IT'S a catchy song that looks set to rule the airwaves. But Kelly
Poon's new track, Shakalaka Baby, from her latest album seems mired
in
 controversy.

Kelly says that by adapting the original Shakalaka Baby, into
Chinese,
it would make more people appreciative of the song. Picture:
JONATHAN
CHOO For one, some have questioned the song's copyright and whether
Kelly's label, Ursa Major, has the rights to use the song.

A reader, Noorul Wahid, wrote to The New Paper: 'Kelly Poon has
simply
reused the tune without actually seeking permission from the
copyright
 holders or the composer.'

Likewise, a Netizen who wanted to be known as TruthandReconciliat
ion
also said in an online forum that he 'would like to see the original
composer's name to be credited for it'.

The song was originally composed by Indian film composer AR
Rahman in
1999 for the Tamil film, Mudhalvan.

In 2002, he improvised the track for British musical theatre
composer
Andrew Lloyd Webber's production, Bombay Dreams.

Shakalaka Baby has been reworked into Mandarin by famous Taiwanese
 composer-producer Yao Chien.

In an interview with The New Paper yesterday, Kelly explained
that if
her label had not sought permission or cleared the copyright
issues, she
wouldn't have been able to release the album.

'It wouldn't also be used as the main track and I may even be
sued,'
said the 24-year-old singer with a laugh.

Yao Chien also gave his assurance that his company Ursa Major,
which
signed the 2005 Project Superstar female champion last year, has
sought
 permission to use the song.

'Songwriters usually have agents to help them take care of the
rights
to their work. So we liaised with Universal Music which takes care
of AR
Rahman's works,' he claimed during a phone interview yesterday.

Copyright issue aside, Kelly admitted that she has read some
reports
from India saying Indians there preferred the original version.

She added: 'But I think it's good to adapt the song anyway because
then Chinese people will get to know this Indian song.

'Music has no barriers and it can be shared with people of
different
 races.'

Kelly's second album, In The Center Of The World, was released
during
a regional press conference here last Saturday.

It is aimed at launching her singing career beyond local shores to
China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

To do that, Kelly has spent the past six months living in Taipei
on
 her own.

And solitude is what the Kuala Lumpur-born singer has been facing
 there.

'Frankly, it does get lonely. My hand phone is switched on

24 hours a day and it's fantastic when I have people to chat with
via
 SMS,' she said.

So she was especially happy when blind singer Kelvin Tan was in
Taiwan
 recently to promote his album.

'He messaged me that he was in Taiwan and we met up for dinner.
But I
haven't kept in touch with Hong Junyang or Sing Chew,' she said of
her
 fellow Project Superstar alumnus.

  INTENSIVE TRAINING

Kelly was in the Mandopop capital for intensive training in
singing,
 dancing and media management.

'Besides going to the office and attending classes, I would head
home
 and watch TV.

'Even that is part of homework too as I'm watching variety
programmes
so as to prep myself on what to expect,' she added.

Indeed, she is already putting what she has learned to use.

A local Chinese newspaper had speculated that a guy spotted at her
press conference on Saturday was her boyfriend.

  She has previously admitted to

I'm an avid listener of Rahman's and I never put any expectation into
his music. If I expect something, then where is the fun in that? Let
him surprise us! He is the professional, although the idea of
suggestions was a noble one, in my opinion, I'd rather leave it to
him. Rahman was the one to break all expectations. If we want another
Athiradee, just by asking for it, will we know what it is going to
sound like? Athiradee is surely stylish but for me so Chaiyya Chaiyya
and listening to Athiradee alone i could never expect a chaiyya to
come next. And for all we know, he could have quite possibly broken
our expectations! which is very likely by the way.

One last thought, i believe the song picturizations have already
started, no?

yea but the author wasnt the one who was talking baout the

is what i think.

lot of
 blogs are giving wrong propaganda.

This fan group has all the songs done in his concerts so far
listed.
If you read it, and learned to count till 30, you will know that
Rahman
had played much more (2/3rds) songs in Hindi so that the songs
would
reach everyone. At least, all from South India would have
exposure to
the Hindi songs to some extent. But even playing a few Tamil
songs and
a Telugu song seem to have created a south/north discrimination.
If
anything, Rahman has gone on record to say that he HATES this
discrimination and only thinks of himself as representing India.
I am
truly saddened that people will go about giving him a negative
image
 without thinking.

  By LISA TSERING
  India-West Staff Reporter

OAKLAND, Calif. - Halfway through a lively show at the Oracle
Arena
June 2, A.R. Rahman put on the brakes, and took a moment to ask
the
audience to pause in their revelry.

You are all in high spirits right now, the composer said
softly. But think about those who are in hunger, or living in
poverty. Seated at a grand piano, he started to play the
gentle Pray for Me Brother, inspiring thousands of fans to wave
their lighted cell phones in the dark, swaying to the music.

It was just one of many memorable moments during a three-hour
concert
that saw the sold-out crowd leap to their feet for his greatest
hits
from Dil Se, Taal, Roja and Bombay, and newer, but just
as
distinctive, songs from Rang De Basanti, Water and Guru.

The show wasn't all Bollywood - when Rahman performed Vaaji
vaaji en
jeevan si sivaji and Athiradee from Sivaji, the hotly
anticipated Rajnikanth starrer due out June 15, his South Indian
fans
erupted in hysteria, gyrating in the aisles and
screaming, Sivaji!
Sivaji! A performance of the film's Sahaana saaral by Chitra
and a
young male singer got an equally enthusiastic response.

From the beginning of the concert, when the maestro appeared on a
high riser at the back of the stage greeted by a fireworks
display,
to the ending strains of Vande Mataram, his signature closing
piece, A.R. Rahman led an unforced program that veered between
the
extremes of his prolific catalog, from haunting ballads to
infectious
rockers. Some of his musicians told India-West backstage that the
song list hadn't been put together until the last minute, which
lent
an air of spontaneity to the show.

Rahman is an unlikely megastar. Softspoken, humble and completely
dedicated to his music, he spent most of his time onstage behind
a
large bank of keyboards, out of the spotlight, as his longtime
musical director, K. Srinivas Murthy, led a group of Indian and
  Western musicians and percussionists.

The composer has always been willing to cede attention to his
guest
stars, who included ace guitarist Rashid Ali and University of
South
Florida music student Patrick Hernly, a gifted young
percussionist
who blew the crowd away with a virtuoso centerstage display of
tabla
  bol.

Vocalists Sukhwinder Singh, Hariharan, Chitra, Madhushree,
Sadhana
Sargam, Blaaze, Naresh Iyer and other talented voices, along with
scene-stealing drummer Sivamani, got some of the best response
with
songs from Guru, including sizzling versions of Tere bina
  and Barso re.

But one of the major discoveries of the evening was Neeti Mohan,
an
extraordinary young vocalist who added sparkle to a version
of Guru's Mayya mayya when she appeared onstage wrapped in a
huge, voluminous, bright red length of silk. As she slowly
turned,
dancers unwrapped her to reveal a saucy belly-dancing costume,
and
Mohan, accompanied by two more belly dancers, writhed to the item
number's Middle Eastern beat. Mohan, who is a trained dancer,
singer
and actress with a spot on Coke [V] Popstars 2 and a role in
the
Sunny Deol production Socha Na Tha to her credit, is also the
lead
singer in a Mumbai pop band called Aasma.

Rang De Basanti produced some of the most exciting scenes of
the
night as Naresh Iyer teamed with rapper/lyricist Blaaze on the
rock
anthem Paathshala/ Be a rebel, and Sivamani tore up the drums
on Khalbali as dancers in shiny white bodysuits moved around
the
  stage.

Hariharan, accompanied by Sadhana Sargam, lent a delicate touch
to Sapnay's Chanda re and - since no Rahman show would be
complete without it - turned in a haunting version of Roja in
Hindi.

[arr] Re: 3RD dimension?

2007-06-04 Thread tanyaagha
no there wasnt anything of that sort with 3D glasses or anything.
yep basically there was only sivaji and boys and humma humma was sung
in tamil, although he forgot the stanzas and just sung Na Na Na Na,
still good anyways. i think humma humma was the highlight of the
evening. ill write detailed later.

I am surprised that ARR did not sing Anbe Aruyire, New York
Nagaram,
and did not perform Thottal Poo Malarum. He gets very apologetic
about Tamil songs because most people expect the songs to be in
the Rashtriya Bhasha somehow.. Only Boys (why?) and Sivaji then..

   - Naina Neer Bahaye (Water - Sadhna Sargam)
   - Khalbali (RDB) - ARR himself
   - A variant of the song Kesariya Balama -from a new Rajasthani

This was a phenomenal one since it started out as a jugal
  bandle
of sorts between another guy (Franks???) who started out with
the
classical carnatic taalas (I am not sure what we call the words

with his drums and then the magical rajasthani song sung by

it was awesome, ill post a detailed entry later.

one thing must let you know now, the whole audience of about 15 000
people sang and danced to chaiyya chaiyya, humma humma, sarigame, rang
de basanti, and vande mataram. Ive never seen so many people singing
and dancing at the same time.
during pray for me brother, the entire lighting was turned off except
a single light on rahman, and the whole audience used their phones or
whatever, and waved the lights back and forth. neevr before have i
lived in such a beautiful moment.

I was the happiest tonight in that same room with A R Rahman, even if
i did have to share it with 15,000 other people.

 Hi Gopal All,

Just back from the SFO concert. The concert started at 8:20pm
with Jaage Hain from Guru where our Guru started the song on a high
pitch and entered the Stage. Here is the list of songs (not in the
order which was played). Others who attended please correct or add as
needed.I did not get a few names when Blaaze introduced. So some one
please fill the ?? below.

   Roja Janeman - Roja (Hariharan)
 Ramta Jogi - Taal (Sukhvinder
 Samajgayi - Taal
 Pray for me Brother
Kehna Hai kya - Bombay (Chitra)
 Humma Humma - Bombay (ARR)

 Tere Bina - Guru (ARR/Madhusree)
 Mayya Mayya - Guru (???)
 Sahana - Sivaji (Vijay Yesudhas/Chitra)
 Sega Fighta - Sivaji (Naresh/Blaaze/ ??)
 Athiradee - Sivaji (ARR/Sayonara)
 Vaaji Vaaji - Sivaji (Hariharan/Madhusre e)
 Secret of Success - Boys
  (Blaaze/??/? ?)
 Chanda Re - Sapnay (Hariharan/Sadhana)
 Rang de Basanti (??/Chitra)
 Pathshala - RDB (Naresh/Blaaze)
 Roobaru - RDB (Naresh/ARR)
 Ik Onkar - RDB (Chitra)
 Ayo Re - Water (Sadhana/Sukhvider)
 Piya Ho - Water (Sadhana)
Dil Se Re - Dil Se (ARR)
Chaiyya Chaiyya - Dil Se (Sukhvinder/ Rehana)

   Singers and Instrumentalists
 Hariharan
Vijay Yesudhas (Sang Udit's version of Sahana)
 Chitra
 Madhusree
 Sadhana Sargam

 Aslam
 ??- Male Harmony
 ?? - Female Harmony
 Naveen (Flute)
 Rashid - Guitar
 Ravi Shankar - Keyboard
 ?? - Sitar
 ?? - Cello
 ?? - Sax
   Srinivas Murthy - Conductor

   ARRs words during the concert
   1) Started by saying that how difficult was to get Visas for his
troupe to
  travel for the concert.
   2) Requested everyone to vote for Taj
   3) ARR recently visited Bangalore with his family where he fell
sick and said to the concert organisers that his voice will be nasal.
And the organisers said that nasal voice is the IN thing here.
   4) When he began Pray for me...he remembered the poor and hungry
people...

   Comments:
The concert was great. ARR sang his songs with the power that I
did not expect in a live concert.Though there were a few flaws like
the below but that did not matter for me and I enjoyed the show very
much. Hariharan was with his usual charm and improvisations. Chitra
was ultimate not deviating her voice even a bit from the originals.
   1) Sound engineering issues. The balance between instruments were
not correct. For eg. Secret of success was too loud on the guitars
and could hardly hear voices.

  2) Mic issues like when ARR starts to sing his voice would sound
less and then after recognizing that the sound engineers would adjust
it. It happened quite a few times in various songs.
   3) Timing/Tempo misses by singers like Madhusree in Vaaji, Naresh
in Paathshala. But everything was corrected swiftly.
   4) Miss of pitch/scale and quickly corrected in Sahana. (This may
have been due to the over loudness of the pads (not drum pads) of the
song which switched to different notes causing Chitra to slightly
move away from the song and quickly she came to the correct notes)
   5) Lyrics unavailability for Humma Humma. ARR sang
only Na..Na ...da...da for the two stanzas of the song. Also lyric
miss in Athiradee by ARR.

   Highlight
June 2nd was declared ARR day in Oakland where the concert
happened. As usual ARR accepted it without commenting on it

Hope others can add and share your experiences

   Cheers
   Prashanth Isaac

 my take on GOOD DAY:

 1. when u wake up from dream that has atleast some shade of ARR
or his
 music
in it! i really have an interesting experience that I faced.. i
will share
it shortly. have to collect some info before sharing it to the
group.. its
 gonna b another trivia!

 2. when someone asks me any questions related to ARR in my orkut
scrapbook!

 3. when ARRs song as an alarm wakes me up..

 4. checking mails in this group that has some great info abt ARR.
 obviously,
the opposite makes it a bad day!

 meaningful thread dinesh..!

 4. You open the news paper and there is an article on Rahman in

Do you think ARR has time some for this? ie. creating 3 whole
songs that are
not going to be part of the movie? Moreover I don't think shankar
will waste
that fantastic guitar piece + ARR's 'Dheem dharathana...' (2:27).
It's just
 amazing.

I'd be happy if something like that happens. :) so that we can get
some more
 fresh songs. ;)

But I remember once shankar / rajini saying, we chose 5 out of 20+
tunes
given by ARR. Plz remember its not the whole song.

Also heard that 'Kankalal Kaithu Sei' songs were supposed to be
included in
one of the shankar movies. Donno how far it's true!

 Hi guys,

The recently released 3 songs on the net which believe to be the

of the Mega Project Shivaji is obviously not true. As usual,
Director
Shankar is creating some hype among the fans of Rajinikanth and AR
Rahman. I
strongly believe that these songs are composed specially to
promote and to
creat hype among fans... If u notice, the touch of Rahman on all
these three
songs are very less. It sounds more to a different music director.
Obviously
Rahman is the one who composed these songs (no doubts) but to
create a huge
hype b4 its release...Someone said that this is not the final
production,
its just a movie draft and Rahman will add more stuffs into it...
But I
think you can't add anymore stuffs to these songs except Sunlight
songand if it is a shooting draft, why not they release it on
net months
back??? why now and nearing the original release date??? If u hear
at the
music it is not that fantastic... It didn't sound at all as a
Rahman song
especially the Vaji Vaji song. Just imagine will this song suit
Superstar Frankly speaking I would say that Chandramukhi's
music were
many times better. I strongly believe that these songs are
composed to
make the piracy guys fool... Lets say by 2 or 3 days time there
will
definetly be nearly 500, 000.00 copies of pirated CDs believe to
be Sivaji
soundtracks (which is this 3 Tracks) around the world. Then
comes April
4th with all different songs. so there will be a very big loss
for these
guyshaha Shankar is showing his smartness.Come on guys
hear it
carefully its is definetely not Sivaji songs He has just
composed it to
stop piracyFor the past years the piracy team are making film
makers
fool, but now, they are going to make them fool. Thats why
Gops and
Vijay r keeping silent remember the last e mail by Vijay??? He
said
suprise suprise at last???...Other thatn this, how can a product
of the most
biggest people in cinema industry can just be leaked??? You think
they are
stupids??? investing croes into a movie, working day and night for
a movie
and a person can easily leak their product NO. If you notice
at the
lyrics of these songs are also very very simple Of course you
may say
that Rahman himself has sung a bit in the Sahara song yup its
to make
people believeSo guys come on, they r all legends, they know
what r they
doing.. Trust me, remember my words, we'll see it on April

After breaking new ground with its overseas opening, it is North
India where Mani Ratnam's Guru is set to thump the naysayers. The
film is emerging a big grosser in a center like Chandigarh, Punjab
recording 90% in the middle of the week at Fun Republic there. In
fact the film is faring better and more consistently there than it
is in Bombay where the collections have been up and down over the
week. Superb grosses are being recorded in stations in and near
Delhi like Noida, Gurgaon etc. Down in Indore's Velocity cinema,
the
film's number of screenings were increased from 6 to 8 shows per
 day.

In the traditional Bachchan belt that is the Hindi heartland, the
film is doing well in some centers and fair in others. Lucknow in
particular has been recording a strong response all week. The film
has been a super hit in South India. And in the most important
sign,
the advance booking for the 2nd weekend all over the country is
indicating that the Aishwarya Abhishek Bachchan starrer has

Today is my agha's birthday. I started calling him Agha a few

had decided that he would hate to be addressed as Sir and after
meeting him I realized that such was indeed the case. He is far
too
modest for it. Agha was a perfect fit to his colorful profile.
After
all, he is a Tamilian belonging to the Sufi Muslim faith and it
hardly gets more diverse than that. He probably has no idea I call
him this and will never know of all the fantasies I staged in my
mind
of how I would meet him and the several things I would say to him.
I would want him to know that Luka Chuppi from RDB is
brilliant and that Tere Bina from Guru is an immeasurable
accomplishment. I would complain about his introverted life and
his
soft spoken personality that makes him a humble human but at the
same
time, a frustrating one for me as I would like an account of
everything he involves himself with. Then I would finally tell him
that he is a gift from Allah and I don't remember music before
him.
Alas when I did meet him I said nothing. I simply stared, listened
to
him fix my camera and hand it to my friend to take our picture. He
signed my scrapbook but it looks like doodles and I cannot figure
out
what it says. However, the fact that his hand blessed my book with
their touch is reason enough for me to be content. After
lamenting and regretting over saying only a few words to him I
realized that I have no room to complain. I met him, heard him
practice, stood by him as he sang on stage and loved every minute
of
it. Maybe one day I will have the courage to form words in a
letter
that I will post to his residence with everything I want to say:
praises, ponderings, complains and good wishes.
But for now my Agha I wish you a very very happy birthday.
Inshallah you will have many many more and you will continue to
give
me your music-the source to my energy, inspiration and happiness.

hey i am sorry guys/gals, i couldnt mail the details of my
meeting
him. actually i shifted my house and hence no internet at home
and
   office was also closed.

on 21st night my friend called me that ARR is coming the next
morning and she was very sorry as she couldnt arrange any
 invitation
for me. i was bewildered and couldnt decide on what to do. then
 the
first thing i did i messaged my fried at pune asking what i
should
do. he said 'go there, take a chance and you could be lucky',
and
 i
was also thinking the same, his message put me alive again and i
decided to go to oberoi no matter if the hotel authority doesnt
allow me to enter. i had one advantage that i had earlier
written
about the Oberoi, so virtually i knew almost every pros and cons
 of
   the hotel.

as my friend said, i went there, signed and entered. waiting for
 him
to come gave me an out of the world experience. suddenly, i just
turned around, and oh my god, i saw him coming. i almost sopped
breathing. i was sitting in the fourth row and he sat on the
first
row. then as usual the photographers went crazy taking pictures.
 it
was the occasion of releasing 'Pray For me, Brother' video and
 it's
such an amazing video, he was looking extremely stylish and
cool
with sunglasses. then he went to the mike describing the theme
 and
story behind it. he is so humorous, he even cracked a joke
there.
since the video is shot in vertical cinema scope format, he said
that ' I look taller here' and smiled. the photographers asked
for
photo shoot and asked him to take the nokia phone and pose. he
 said
that he is not there to endorse the hand set, still they
insisted
and the he gave the pose. when the photographers were going
crazy,
he was smiling and said 'aashirwad'. he's got a great sense of
   humour.

then stared the question-answer round. there were some good and
 some
stupid questions. a guy asked him his reaction on his three of
his
songs being nominated for the Oscrs. then ARR said that they are
 not
nominated but short listed. they have changed some rules and
hence
this is the first time indian music was short listed. he also
said
that he was very happy for that. then a girl asked how he was
feeling after singing for the first time in Hindi in Guru. he
frowned for a second and said ' you mean first duet? yes its for
 the
first time i have sung a duet with a girl. then he said how mani
ratman forced him to sing it. then there was a guy from TNN and
asked the most famous question that was he inspired by Michael
Jackson? First ARR asked him back ' the music or the video?' the
 guy
said ' specially video but the song has also touch of Michael
Jackson'. then what ARR said, i guess everyone in the group
 already
knows. then i raised my hand for the mike. The guy from CNN-IBN
 was
asking him about the ARR foundation and i sitting nervous with
the
mike, dont know what to say, couldnt listen properly what he
answered. it was my first experience to attend any press meet
and
ask question as i am not a journalist, moreover the fact that i
 was
asking question to nobody else but ARR was making me even more
nervous. then came my turn. i said ' hello Mr. Rahman', and then
 he
was searching for me to locate where i was sitting. i raised my
 hand
again and then he looked at me. that was the moment which i can
never forget. my God was looking at me and waiting to listen my
question. that moment was something which even i never expected
to
have in my life. Dinesh, you are right, i was blessed. i said '
i
guess i am the only one here from your Yahoo group fan club.'
then
he smiled at me. 'so my question is something off the track. we
 all
know that you love to compose in Desh, Darbari and Yaman. Now
when
   you are

Ummm Thanks to Rakeysh. And thanks to my team.for
putting up with me. (Smiles) (Long pause) Actually, there is a story
behind this background score. Rakeysh gave me the print of the movie
just a month before I was to leave for the US to an American movie.
Rakeysh and I discussed it and decided that someone else would do
the background score. We had almost decided on who would do it when
I took a look at the movie. I ditched the American movie and did the
background score for Rang De Basanti. Thank God for that

It's sad that Jatin and Lalit split. Omkara is my favourite score

(Camera swings to a bemused Jatin, who was in contention for Fanaa)

Before handing out the best composer award, actor Aftab Shivdasani
pulled off his own bit of histrionics with This is the moment I
have been waiting for, all my life. The award goes to. my own
personal favourite... A.R.Rahman for Rang De Basanti

A R Rahman, Manirathnam do it again for Guru IndiaGlitz [Thursday,
 November 30, 2006]

When A R Rahman and Manirathnam combine, they simply break all
records
 in audio sales.

Ever since Roja, the two had come together on several occasions.
All
their songs have topped the audio charts and the cassettes always
made
roaring sales. They have re-created their magic again in Guru.

The Hindi movie starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai has
musical
score by Rahman. The audio was out a couple of weeks ago. It has
now
emerged as a hot cake in the Chennai audio market.

The album has seven songs and Rahman has shown his mastery by
coming up
 with a variety of genres.

Popular music composer Bappi Lahiri has sung a song besides
Hariharan,
Shreya Ghosal, Alka Yagnik, Chinmayee, Chitra and of course Rahman
 himself.

Now Guru maybe dubbed in Tamil and so the songs will also be out in
 Tamil.
