[arr] Orchestration used in Zikr(Bose)

2009-02-12 Thread Vikram
Hi All

I have a question about A.R.Rahman's Zikr(movie:Bose).I sing in a
men's chorus here in Portland OR. We are going to perform Zikr in our
next concert which features world music.I am curious to find out about
the instruments which have been used for the recording. Would you
happen to have more information about this?Does someone own the album
by chance? The CD sleeve might contain this info.We are trying to find
an instrument to create the twangy sound you hear at the beginning of
the song. A regular guitar cannot do it.

If you can help (or point me in the right direction),I'd really
appreciate it.

Thanks so much

-Vikram

Re: [arr] Ghajini release stayed by the Chennai HC

2008-12-23 Thread Vikram Kumar
More details here

http://movies.ndtv.com/newstory.asp?section=Movies&id=ENTEN20080077518

If you've already booked your tickets for Aamir Khan's much awaited film *
Ghajini*, which was to release this Christmas, you might just be
disappointed. The all-India release of the film has been stayed by the
Madras High Court.

KBC Pictures had recently filed a suit in the High Court against the makers
of the film, saying that KBC Pictures have got the rights for the remake
from the original producer.

The producers of Aamir Khan starrer *Ghajini*, who woke up to the court
summons Monday, have been accused of infringement of KBC Pictures'
copyright. KBC Pictures is producing a film titled *Kahani Ghajini Ki*,
which has an Amitabh Bachchan lookalike in the lead.

[arr] Raja Sen Comments on A R Rahman

2008-12-22 Thread Vikram Kumar
"

And then there's that other cult, led by the curly-haired maestro from
Chennai. It's been a characteristically strong year for AR Rahman, what with
hits like* Jodhaa Akbar
[Images<http://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=jodhaa%20akbar>
]* and his youngest-sounding soundtrack in ages, the delightfully collegiate
*Jaane Tu [Images<http://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=jaane%20tu>
]... Ya Jaane Na*. There have also been albums like *Ada *and the soundtrack
to *Yuvvraaj [Images<http://search.rediff.com/imgsrch/default.php?MT=yuvvraaj>
]*, which, while disappointing by Rahman's usually stellar standards, has
still managed to rake in the default plaudits.

He's currently in the news for his work on *Slumdog Millionaire*, the Danny
Boyle film primed to be this year's Oscar favourite, and the soundtrack to
the Mumbai-based film will hit stores the same day* Ghajini* swaggers onto
the screen."

*Excerpt below*

Similar is the fate of *Chamki*, another Benegal project that has been in
the pipeline for quite sometime. The film, inspired by George Bizet's
classic Spanish opera *Carmen*, revolves around a fiery gypsy girl.

"The music is by A R Rahman and Javed Akhtar has written the lyrics, however
the star cast has not been finalised yet." said the seven time national
award-winning director.

2008-07-05 Thread Vikram Kumar
JTYJN really rocks. Just came back after seeing the movie. Though a couple
of songs are missing in the movie i.e. Jaane Tu Meri Kya hain (both
versions) plus Tu bole has been used for a couple of lines. The BGM is
amazing and the other songs really rock .

It's gonna be a sure shot hit.

2008-06-15 Thread Vikram Kumar
Technically he did introduce A.R. Rahman into hindi fiml industry as
Rangeela was the first original HINDI OST for Rahman (All previous movies
were dubbed ones). But A.R. Rahman was much famous in Bollywood before that.
I guess Rangeela came out around 13 years back... and i had bough the audio
cassete for A.R. Rahman;s music at that time

Another charge against him is that he has become complacent. He introduced

[arr] My take on JTYJN music

2008-06-11 Thread Vikram Kumar

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na Music
Review<http://vikram-kumar.blogspot.com/2008/06/jaane-tu-ya-jaane-na-music-review.html>

*Movie - Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na*
*Director - Abbas Tyrewala*
*Music Director - A.R. Rahman
**Lyrics - Abbas Tyrewala
*
**An A.R. Rahman album is mostly the one with an experience outside this
world and with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (JTYJN) Rahman again solidifies this
fact. The launch vehicle for Imran Khan (Aamir's nephew) couldn't have had a
better start than this. Two weeks after the audio release a couple of songs
are already topping the charts. So here is my take on the songs.

*Track -1 , Kabhi Kabhi Aditi - Rashid Ali
*Undoubtedly the best song of the album, this song has a young feel to it.
The talent of newcomer Rashid Ali is very well exploited in this song. This
one pleases your ear from the first go itself. We need to lookout for Rashid
Ali, he definitely has got a jumpstart to his career.
**
*Rating 9/10*

*Track -2 , Pappu Can't Dance - Benny Dayal, Naresh Iyer, Satish
Chakravarthy, Aslam, Blaze, Tanvi, Bhargavi
*On the first listening this never looked like a Rahman track, and in
addition the unorthodox lyrics by Tyrewala didn't help either. But after a
few listening this peppy young song does catch up with you and its presence
is now all over the music channels. I assume that this song may be enjoyed
well on the big screen when the movie releases and the list of singers in
the song act as a fresh breeze.
*
*
**
*Rating 7.5/10

*
*Track - 3 , Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hain - Runa
*One of the songs with typical Rahman songs which grows on you with each
listening. Has a nice pleasing melody and good vocals by Runa. Incidently
after the aditi song this is another song which contains the name of the
title "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na" within the song. Surely some innovative lyric
writing for the movie.
*
*
*Rating 8/10

*
**
*Track - 4 , Nazre Milana Nazre Churana- Benny Daya, Satish Chakravarthy,
Sayonara, Darshana, Svetha, Bhargavi, Anupama
*
**One of my favorites for this album whose video is now on air on music
channels. Again unorthodox mix of English and Hindi form lyrics for this
song and gives it a pretty young feel. Multiple singers in the song add that
peppy college feel to the song.
*
Rating 8.5/10*
**
*
Track - 5 , Tu Bole- A.R. Rahman
*This is definitely very different which Rahman has ever explored both with
music and his own singing. This song can be categorized as jazz/blues and
really well executed by rahman. Though this does not in the league "Lukka
Chuppi" ,"Jaage Hain" or "Khwaja Mere Khwaja" but it's totally different
from anything attempted before hence we would need to look out for this. I
suspect that this might be the title song for the movie.
*
*
*Rating 8.5/10

*
**
*Track - 6 , Kahin To- Rashid Ali, Vasundhra Das
* slow number with Rashid Ali again doing a tremendous job with his vocals.
This song is pretty hummable and should catch up after the release of the
movie.

*Rating 7/10

*
**
*Track - 7 , Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai - Sukhwinder Singh
*A slow version of the song by the same title sung by Ruma. This also has a
different set of lyrics but does not loose the original magic touch.
Sukhwinder Singh as expected is dependable and delivers the good pretty
well.
*
*
*Rating 8/10

*
*Track - 8 , Pappu Can't Dance (remix) -
*I was never a big fan of x and this song makes my belief stronger. Not sure
why we ever need to remix a song like 'Pappu Can't Dance" which originally
is a party number and pretty good.
*
*
*
*So the final verdict as for most Rahman album is that it is a must buy if
you are a music lover. A couple of songs (like Aditi and Nazre Milana nazre
Churana will stay in our mind for a long time).
*Final Album Rating - 8/10*

ARR produced sooo many songs in every possible genre in 15 yrs.
Every song of ARR is very specially structured, orchestrized,
or carefully crafted.
But, At this point am wondering what is the simplest song of ARR.
Simplest, I dont mean less instruments or small in length or
easy to hum or bad song...
Forget about Veerapandi, dilsere and athiradhi..even
Chinni Aasai,...tu hi re, en kaadhale, raasaathi, nila kaigurathu,
dheemi dheemi, anarkali..and bolo guru are soo complex either with
tune or vocals or chorus or something else.
I cd not answer myself about which is the simplest of ARR songs?

What is it?
it cannot be anbendra, uslampatti or oo vennila.
Any ideas???

[arr] Saw Water day before yesetday.. ARR's music is great

Saw water Friday evening. Arr's music is just great. Esp. the rain song
"Aayo re..." looks too good. "Bhangri Marori" has been played only for a
minute and that too in the background (in the movie its being played on the
gramophone). Sadly enough one of my favourites from the album "Shyam Rang
