Hey Anish,

I respect your opinions. We don't have to agree about our favorites. Rahman's
collection of albums are as varied as the colors and hues on a rainbow. We
will each have our favorite color and hue or shade and that's fine. It's what
makes life excitingto have different viewpoints and opinions. I say, let's
just agree to disagree! It's not worth warring over different opinions and
nobody is going to succeed in changing someone's opinions. Good to hear from
you!

You are entitiled to your opinion. But as music lovers, we suggest
that give time to this album.let it grow on you.
Yes this is not an album that you like on the first go and that is why
it is not so successful commercially, but it is a masterpiece!!

1 or two good songs dont make a great 'album'...i mean even in the hindi
ghajini..kaise mujhe is a superb track...slow, haunting and touching..the
best on the album..guzarish is good...but the album as a whole doesnt live

Well, ARR is unique, no one can compare to him. If you think that Doli Saja Ke
Rakhna is a disaster, how can you explain my astonishment on him at the first
time I listened to Ta Ram Pum from Doli Saja Ke Rakhna? Once I listened to
that, my heart said, this guy (the composer) is very much different... here's
ARR, he is different. And about One 2 Ka 4, the two are gorgeous, Sona Nahin Na
Sahih and Khamoshiya Gunguna Ne Lagi... and also Mangal Pandey, it is

hey anish

nice reading your thoughts on Rahman's music. I've been a member of this
group since 2004. When I joined, this group was mainly discussing the music
of Swades. I remember reading a lot of mails on the music of Bose in 2005,
about how it was badly promoted, about how the songs were badly utilized in
the movie and so on.

i suggest you should try listening to some of Rahman's Tamil numbers if
possible. There are some gems which you can hear only in Tamil (bcos they
were not reused in Hindi)

Kandukondein Kandukondein
Sangamam
Iruvar
Kizhakku Cheemayile
Duet
En Swasa Katre

and so on

Re: [arr] Bose

2009-03-07 Thread Anish Gupte
Well, to start i would like to say that I am a great fan of rahman's music.
I feel he has a unique style which some composers like sandeep chowta and at
times Shankar ehsaan loy, have tried to emulate, but they sumhow fall short
on quality.
I first heard Rahman's music in Roja, though at that time I was too young
to appreciate how good it was at the time. After listening to Dil Se..i was
really hooked. But what really made me a huge fan of his music was the album
'Taal'. For a long time i thought that Taal's depth, diversity and scale
would never be matched..and I was almost right
The only person who could outd Taal was Rahman himself. Its been quite a
journey for the maestro. Although some of his albums have been quite
pathetic (One 2 Ka four, Doli Sajake Rakhna, Mangal pandey..which was a
disaster)..and some which bordered greatness (Thakshak, Saathiya,
Zubeida)..his music has always offered new sounds and melodies. . I wasnt
too impressed with Rangeela..tho it was his first purely hindi album. His
greatest works include, apart from the ones i mentioend earlier Swades,
Lagaan, Meenakshi, Jodha Akbar and several others

A little bit about myself...i was a student of indian classical music for
several years when i was younger..thus Rahmans music appealed to me even
more. Talking of recent albums, well Delhi-6 is such a great album..it ranks
alongside Taal and Dil se in my books.
I sincerely feel that Jai Ho did not deserve an oscar. Being an ardent fan
of Rahman I feel that he has made several much better songs in the past. Im
extremely happy for him, and feel that his award was long due..but It would
have been better if he'd got the award for some other song. (eg Luka Chuppi
from RDG or Rehna Tu frm Delhi-6...which are both infinetly better numbers)

The greatest strength of Rahman is that he is always up to date with
technology involving music. Always experimenting with different instruments,
creating new sounds and composing new melodies is what makes him such a
winnerThere is a great difference in the Rahman of Roja and Bombay, and
now.

Lastly, I would also like to say that apart from Rahman I simply love
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music ..they are No.2 on my list of best composers in
the country. ..
I do not understand any south indian language as im from Mumbai, so pardon
me if I have missed out on Rahmans Tamil films( I know there are many !)

Re: [arr] Bose- Rahmans All time Best....

2008-05-17 Thread kranthi chand
truely guys boss was too melodious n inspiring in composing the album
bose the forgotten hero.dont feel bad wevnt forgot it.
it was poorly promoted only due to the crisis about the story of the film.
shayam benegal saab is not intrested in promoting his movies
commercially as he belives that the real publicity should come from
audience.

any way the next shayam benegal movie is going to hit theaters in
august as per the latest interview on cnn-ibn telecasted today.if its
our boss who scored the tunes(since aint sure)we would plan a better
promotion for it.

waitin for 20th,
kranthi chand

Re: [arr] Bose- Rahmans All time Best....

2008-05-17 Thread Reformed Sinner
you are absolutely correct. bose is one of rahman's alltime best.

sadly the album was not promoted very well and the movie also did not do
well in theaters. as a result the music did not receive commercial success.

That song is worst placed also.

It is when the axis forces loose and surrender. That meant
Bose's support base is gone and his fight is also going to
be over, so is his dream of freeing India.

At this time, some other sad song was required. It is a
situation when one would be more concerned about his vision
getting shatterred by circumstances beyond his control. Not
a situation when one feels nostalgic about his motherland.

It might be taken to mean that Bose found good riddance and
was pleased to return to return to un-independent India.

After seeing I also could not place which song was placed where.

But zikr is also there. In afghanistan, when mute bose goes
to the ziyaarat of that dargaah. It ends at first chant of
"hasbii rabii sallallaah".

was it cut from your film.

Ghoomparani's bengali line is the only one from that song
used several time in the film, rest of the song is not
there at all.

There is a version of jan gan man with new lyrics, that is
not in cassette. probably it is the one whose music is there
in the cassette.

At one place there is one more "sung" line "subhaash aayaa"
that is not in the cassette.

A very arbitrary movie as per my opinion. That is why I am
afraid to post here the impression I got about bose after
seeing the movie. In any case, that is the view on movie and
not on our man's music.

ARR's music, however butchered, is the only saving grace of
this stupid film.

RE: [arr] BOSE - Good movie, but where are ARR Songs ?

2005-05-16 Thread Prakash Arunachalam

Dear All,

I saw the movie twice and am still wanted to see few more times. Actually I know very little about Nethaji Bose and now came to know a lot... his story really will stimulate people.. Think of a single man left his home and his attempt for freedom... this is something that cannot be imagined even... Thanks to Mr. Benagal for enlighting people like me. There is nothing I could add on the music part... it is again a masterpiece from our BOSS. I would have enjoyed more if I understand hindi.

Do watch the movie... its really a GEM.

2005-05-16 Thread Ranjith K

actually i havnt seen any critic badmouthing about this one
..
rediff
and indiafm have given +ve reviews i guess ...
i
liked the movie .. but towards the end it was a lil dragging .. mostly the war
scenes were a little dragged through ...
and
its a long movie .. 3 hrs and 45 mts i guess ..

i
liked the way the ekla cholo re song was used ... azaadi was played during end
credits ...
i
guess i heard some 2 pieces which were not in the cd ..
one
was the national anthem .. lyrics were a little different .. the cd only has an
instrumental version ..
also
another catchy bgm which i dont think is there in the cd
..

actually when i was in the hall, i made a note of the scene in my mind ..
but i forgot now ... pls if any1 is yet to watch .. try to figure out the extra
songs ..
i am
pretty sure there were at least 2 ..

the
movie is a good one .. i liked it except the war part ..
and
the acting by sachin was good too ...
i
think its a sure contender for the national awards ...

Re: [arr] Bose Raagas

2005-04-21 Thread ~ [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~

Hi there
Bose has shades of the 'Naushad' era of music. If u
listen to songs from films like Mughal-e-azam, Baiju
Bawra, Leader, & the recent Taj Mahal, u'll agree. The
strings arrangement is superb in all the songs, esp.
'Desh ki mitti'.
Reg the ragas, he's mostly used ragas like Chhayanat,
Kamod, Kedar, Bilawal, Yaman. In short, the basic
melody of 'Ghoomparani', 'Ekla chalo', 'Aazaadi' &
'Desh ki mitti' is woven around the Kalyan group of
ragas. Eventhough the songs many seem simple to hear,
there r lots of complex melodies within them. Like for
'Ekla chalo' in the antra there r shades of
Charukeshi. 'Zikr' is primarily based on Bhairav (an
early morning raga).

Re: [arr] Bose - An Oscar Material ???

2005-04-20 Thread S Iyer

Why do we Indians crave for Oscar as if that is the ultimate accolade!
Look at this:
- ARR is ower own?
- The movie is our own?
- Actors/Directors and others who create these movies are our own?
- Then why should the award be someone else's?
- Since when foreigners have become better judge of our artistic
creations. Most foreigner don't understand a thing about our way of
things - this includes most film personalities in the west. Therefore,
why should we expect them to pat our back? Have you ever heard of
Hollywood trying to get a Filmfare award?

Let's get out of this panchant seeking accolade from others.

hey Brig,

I think I too will soon join you to claim this...Every time I listen to
Bose, I find some thing quite unlike OLD ARR...some thing quite mature and
some thing that I am not able to construct in my mind when I listen to which
ultimately surprises me as how this man could have composed this like
this...BOSE IS A TRUE MASTER PIECE

Re: [arr] Bose

2005-03-29 Thread Srini Iyer

Although I am not the one to call anyone GOD, I cannot but agree with
sentiments of those who do, because listenining to music that
memerizes you is like nothing short of having conversation with GOD.

As you suggested GOD is only a metaphor. Nothing wrong then using it.
Also sentiments are very personal, and if someone wants to liken ARR
to GOD so be it, as they are entitled to that. One cannot take away
that right from them.
