Re: MidTier 6.3 Windows 2003 -> RPC Procedure unavailable
Thanks Leo for the document (received it). As it seems our problem was related to NIC teaming at the webserver and/or port settings at the Midtier config and/or configuration settings (the connnection one) at the ServletExec. Can't really say which of the above helped as we changed it all in a batch and error was gone (so far). Thanks again, Robert ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at http://www.wwrug.org
Re: Remedy and Lotus Domino Integration
** Big assumption here is that your Lotus Notes/Domino database is laid out like a table and all the "records" are relatively consistent. Problem is, Lotus Notes/Domino uses an object database engine and, depending on the application/database design, it may not resemble a SQL-compatible relational database. BLOBs and other free-form entries, even within documents filed under the same form, will blow a CSV file out of the water. Suggest contacting your Lotus Notes/Domino application/database designer and reviewing the structure of the document stack you want to use, to ensure that information can be pulled out with for use in a SQL-based application. -- Bing Bradford Bingel ("Bing")ITM3 California http://www.itm3.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED] (email)925-260-6394 (mobile) From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Cox - HomeSent: Tuesday, August 15, 2006 11:33 AMTo: arslist@ARSLIST.ORGSubject: Re: Remedy and Lotus Domino Integration ** Virtually anything is possible. Re: Statistical help needed
This reply takes a few steps back from Chris' reply . . . Answers: A1. Yes; just about any size sample can be used for a statistical analysis. But to be accurate in your analysis and reporting, you should also disclose the base population size along with the survey sample size. Question may become, of the 3,500 requests received, how many are from unique individuals? (If you receive a ton of requests from 30 people, then a sample of 25 would be pretty good. But if you receive 3,500 requests from over 3,000 people, then a sample of 25 would be relatively poor. Catch my drift?) Results might vary month to month but I suspect you'll see an smoothing effect over the course of a few months. A2. You may want to perform an analysis of variance (ANOVA) or another form of factorial analysis. A3. When you want to include timescales, you'll may want to perform some form of regression analysis. Good news is, this is easier than it may sound! Question 2: We would like to find our bad area, is it question C for a special Customer, or is it related to only an Productarea/maybe in combination with a Customergroup, or is it question A for all Areas? Excel for reporting (pivotable?) or is there a better way? Of course it's important to also have time included in the report, are we better the last 3 months than the 3 before? Of course we take care of the answers each week, and handle unsatisfied answers, works, but we miss a way to clearly report the surveyresults with focus on 'This is our poor area'. No problem, I did execute a few quick tests, for fields, forms and Active Links and it is working fine, but I will continue to examine the issue in more detail if this information does not help. Also check the following 1. The mask option for change history is enabled for Active Links, which I am sure you did. 2. Make sure that the latest "Last Changed Time" on the source for the change history items are actually newer than the latest "Last Changed Time" on the destination. We only extract items from the source that are newer than the destination items and then merge those into the destination change history. Re: TIP for Remedy developers: Keeping fields 'locked' on your fo rm..
** I've noticed it happens when the 'size' of the window changes.. By 'size' I mean when you have the window open in a resize window mode, the size of that window. This size to the best of my awareness of the system is stored internally within the view information and is used to size the dialog box when opened in the web views.. So whenever this size is changed, by either the user action of resizing the window or 'automatically' when a window is opened (which I am not aware of as to why it ever does that) you get your save form option enabled on your admin tool. Re: Filtering attachment file types
** Hi Rick, To do this you can use a few functions to chop the last say 6 chars from the end of the attachment name. You can then look for the first occurrence of a full stop, note its position and then take the remaining characters being the file extension. You then have a filter that checks for your file extension. You can use a few zTmp display only fields to hold the values of the following RIGHT([Field_Name], 6) get last 6 chars STRSTR(Field_Name,.) find position of full stop (X) SUBSTR([Field_Name],(X)) leaves you with file extension If you have multiple attachment fields, use a filter guide to step through the fields until you find an attachment that is forbidden and then throw an error. Re: BMC UserWorld 2006: ARSlister Identification - Hawaiian Shirts?
I did notice that more folks were sporting Hawaiian shirts last year than ever. Since Dan didn't like mine at the last ARSList Awards ceremony, I went out and got one that I claim will trump his. If anyone has one (or would like to get one and wear it - Walmart?, Target?) and would like to "show your support", please do. In the event of a lull in the ARSList Awards, I told Dan that we may have an impromptu "Hawaiian Shirt Contest". I know that Joel, Thomas, and Dan will be among those of us with entertaining prints. I will give anyone who shows up at the ARSList Awards with a Hawaiian shirt a special "Remedy reminiscent" surprise gift at the ceremony. Re: ITSM 7.0 Group Names ?
here is the answer from Remedy Support: I'm following up on your issue regarding the Group Name in the Group form. I researched this issue and found that the application was designed this way because the Support Group Name length can exceed the max field size in the group form. Therefore, the decision was made to use the generated ID. These groups are used for row level only of type "none" and are not exposed in regular use. The name in Long Group Name is intended for Administrators when there is a need to diagnose issues. I hope this answers your question. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at http://www.wwrug.org
Re: Filtering attachment file types
** Rick, In a Filter use a Set Fields to set a Character field to the value of the LOWER(Attachment Field). This should populate the Character field with the filename and other info. Fortunately, the filename is the last item in the semi-colon delimited list. In the next filter check for: NOT ( 'Filename' LIKE "%.xls" OR 'Filename' LIKE "%.doc" OR 'Filename' LIKE "%.etc") If true, then display an error message. Regarding the attachment form, you can use drag-n-drop with it. Create a display only form with an attachment pool and one attachment field. This form can be accessed by a button from many different forms. Users would drag a file into the attachment pool as usual. Then they would click a button to Save it. The Save button would push the attachment to your attachment form and then clear the attachment pool on the DO form waiting for the next file. BMC UserWorld 2006: ARSlister Identification
For those ARSlisters that are getting to go to BMC UserWorld there will be pins available at the "gift pick-up" area. Just ask for one mentioning you are on the ARSlist. I usually wander around with them as well so if you happen to spot me and didn't get one, just ask. For those that haven't decided to go yet, just think, along with all the cool sessions, people to talk to, an evening with Engineering and neat givaways at the product showcase, you also get to attend the Party, the ARSlist Awards, and now a Free Pin! What more could you want? Okay, and I'll throw in this years magnetic words square. ** Herb and Ivan: I've been watching this from the sidelines and have to agree with Susan Palmer and Herb who is the President of a well-respected Remedy Partner company. Like it or not, we are all watched while we are at work. Some of us have micro-managers and some have managers that are more guidence oriented. Re: How to random get 100 entries form a table list.
Dwayne, Point well taken. The described "method of randomness" certainly has biases that make it less than truly random and, to the best of my knowledge, all "random number generators" really have those things. ( Which is the primary reason I tried to deal with that portion of the question separately, and first. :) You could do something like you described... However: That "re-sort" is not really an option (via workflow) if your only using a display only field as a column in the table. (Well, I do not know how to do it. Really to bad that there is not a PERFORM-ACTION-TABLE-SORT [[;;;] | [col_number;col_number;col_number;]| "null for defined sort order"] type special process.) You could choose to push those numbers into the underlying data records(one per record to be updated) but there are some "client <--> ARS server <--> RDBMS" traffic to deal with too and the filters to update all those data rows. And the uesr would need to be able to modify those rows too. Then the table field needs to have the sort order set the "right way" and you do not want your users messing with it either. (Or maybe you do not care and can consider that "yet another" degree of "randomness" too. :) Also if the user asks for 10 records from a table field of 1000 rows. There really is no need to create 1000 random numbers. You just need 10. However, instead of making 100's of calls to create 100's of Random numbers(some of which you will not use) it might be better to create "n" random numbers and guard against using the same "random number" twice too. (Keep track of the random numbers that you get in a display only field with a separator between the numbers, and only use the newly generated number if it does not exist in the list already.) Selecting each randomly selected row (by number) in the table as a new number is generated and accepted. Then you can walk the table once based on the "Selected rows" table walk too. That would be good option and would produce a slightly more "random" distribution. It would only cost you the network traffic and RDBMs time of generating the "random" numbers from your RDBMS and could save you walking the table a few times. (Which if the number of rows is large, will cost you something too.) If the added cost is worth the improved "randomness" then it might be a good direction to head in. Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know if other RDBM's that ARS supports has similar random number generator features? -- Carey Matthew Black Remedy Skilled Professional (RSP) ARS = Action Request System(Remedy) Solution = People + Process + Tools Fast, Accurate, Cheap Pick two. If you are looping a table, the entries in the top of the table have a slightly better chance of getting picked than those on the bottom. Re: OT: Monday Humor
** We are constantly bombarded with messages about being more tolerant and not predjudicial. We are supposed to be politically correct in what we voice, and hopefully far more compassionate than that in what we think and do. The video in itself was in poor taste but the website it was displayed on had other display items that were inappropriate and that's probably where the 'block' outs were originating from. Many people on this list are employees, not contractors, and therefore are on company equipment on company network and in some cases, maybe more than we care to think, being viewed by the company. Just because we use another email address in an effort to ease the burden of the company email server, doesn't mean we can do whatever we want. We are all being paid to work, and sometimes that does include taking a few moments for harmless humor on Fridays. Before you post humor you might want to run it through a simple test ... is this something I'd like my grandma to read ... or my 12 year son or daughter ... would they be proud. I know that not all Friday humor has qualified and I've enjoyed most of it and had a few laughs ...and wouldn't show it to grandma or kids. But if someone says they're offended, then you should be apologizing before anyone ASKS you to do it. So I guess this would qualify as Tuesday editorializing or sermonizing. Re: Search on diary field
Works fine on Oracle. You need Full Text Search (FTS), though. It's pretty well-documented, but essentially you need to purchase FTS licenses, allocate them to appropriate users (Full Text License Type), and index desired fields for FTS (field Properties, Database page, note checkbox - Index For FTS). Also noteworthy, contents of diary fields that have been indexed for FTS are "visible" to workflow. This can be a good or bad thing. Status Transition errors may also be avoided by using data configuration: 1) When pushing data in the CTM:People form, try pushing "Proposed" as the People status (this is an acceptable status transition for the unknown user, ex. Re: How to random get 100 entries form a table list.
In Oracle the equation: select trunc(DBMS_RANDOM.value(0,1000)) from dual gives you a random number of 1 - 999. If you are looping a table, the entries in the top of the table have a slightly better chance of getting picked than those on the bottom. Eg, if you find enuf entries before you get to the bottom, those on the bottom don't have any chance. If you get to the bottom and start over those at the top get two chances, but those at the bottom only get one, etc. Depending on how important this is, you could use your random process to go thru and give each entry a random sort number, then sort your table by this number, and select however many you want from the top. You can hold down the shift key, then click the field you want to view the properties of, and not worry about accidentally "bumping" the field out of alignment. Are you saying the fields stay locked? I'm not sure if it would work the same on earlier than ARS version 6.3 but those using earlier versions could verify if it does.. I'm pretty sure this feature is not documented anywhere on the guides or at least if it is I have missed it completely... We all wished that we wouldn't move fields accidentally disrupting a nicely designed form when we are working on the Admin tool right? This could in a small way minimize the chances that it would happen. Click on the field you want to work on.. Then press the shift key and hold it down. While holding the shift key down, click on the field again and try attempting to move it. It doesn't! Like as if it were locked on to the form.. I thought it was pretty cool.. It happens to even a whole set of fields selected if you do the same thing... Hope some of you find this useful at some point.. Re: Need help w/ .NET & CreateEntry
Chris, It looks like you are on the right track. Just a comment on a programming approach that may help reduce some coding and troubleshooting. Since you are using VB.Net consider using strong typing instead of CreateObject. On the Property Pages screen (Project -> Properties -> Build) set the Option Explicit and Option Strict to On. This will enforce strong typing and ensure that all vars are defined. Instead of: Dim remedyServer remedyServer = CreateObject("BMC.ARSystem.Server") Use this: Dim remedyServer As New BMC.ARSystem.Server If you haven't already, set a Reference to the BMC.ARSystem.dll file. There are a few advantages to using strong typing in VB.Net. 1. You can make use of the IntelliSense drop-down list of methods and properties in the objects. When you type "remedyServer" and then a "." you can see all the options available to you. 2. Allows you to code faster and helps eliminate typos. When you select a method or property from IntelliSense you don't have to type out the method/property, just select it. This also speeds development. 3. Strong typed code executes faster because the compiler already knows what type of object it's dealing with at design time instead of waiting until run time. HTH. This is the first week I have ever had the necessity to interact w/ remedy. By trade I am an applications developer, but I also get tasked w/ interactivity solutions. This particular one needed to have a web form interact w/ various platforms then feed into remedy and since I have never used remedy, I had no idea what the method to their madness was. Currently I am rewriting the code to access a regular form and see if that works. Either way, I will send feedback within the next 24-48 hrs. -Chris ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at http://www.wwrug.org ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at http://www.wwrug.org
