Re: MidTier 6.3 Windows 2003 -> RPC Procedure unavailable

2006-08-15 Thread Kern, Robert SBA
Thanks Leo for the document (received it).

As it seems our problem was related to NIC teaming at the webserver
and/or port settings at the Midtier config and/or configuration settings
(the connnection one) at the ServletExec.

Can't really say which of the above helped as we changed it all in a
batch and error was gone (so far).

Thanks again, Robert

Re: Remedy and Lotus Domino Integration

2006-08-15 Thread Bradford Bingel
**

Big assumption here is that your Lotus Notes/Domino database is laid out
like a table and all the "records" are relatively consistent.  Problem is,
Lotus Notes/Domino uses an object database engine and, depending on the
application/database design, it may not resemble a SQL-compatible relational
database.  BLOBs and other free-form entries, even within documents filed
under the same form, will blow a CSV file out of the water.

Suggest contacting your Lotus Notes/Domino application/database designer
and reviewing the structure of the document stack you want to use, to ensure
that information can be pulled out with for use in a SQL-based
application.

Re: Statistical help needed

2006-08-15 Thread Bradford Bingel
This reply takes a few steps back from Chris' reply . . .

Answers:

A1. Yes; just about any size sample can be used for a statistical analysis.
But to be accurate in your analysis and reporting, you should also disclose
the base population size along with the survey sample size. Question may
become, of the 3,500 requests received, how many are from unique
individuals? (If you receive a ton of requests from 30 people, then a
sample of 25 would be pretty good. But if you receive 3,500 requests from
over 3,000 people, then a sample of 25 would be relatively poor. Catch my
drift?) Results might vary month to month but I suspect you'll see an
smoothing effect over the course of a few months.

A2. You may want to perform an analysis of variance (ANOVA) or another form
of factorial analysis.

A3. When you want to include timescales, you'll may want to perform some
form of regression analysis.

Good news is, this is easier than it may sound! Feel free to contact me
directly if you need additional information or would like to discuss how to
get started.

Subject: Statistical help needed

Hello, suppose you have 4 questions in a survey based upon a request closed
within the last week.

A ?
B ?
C ?
D ?

Each question can be answered from 1-6 (1 is very unsatisfied).

Each survey is connected to a Customergroup (20 different are possibly)

Each survey is belongs to an 'Productarea' (15 different are possibly)

We send 25 surveys each week, 80% are answered.

We close about 3500 requests each week.

Question 1: Is 25 each week enough for statistical calculations after a
couple of months when we will have some hundred answers.
Question 2: We would like to find our bad area, is it question C for a
special Customer, or is it related to only an Productarea/maybe in
combination with a Customergroup, or is it question A for all Areas?

Excel for reporting (pivotable?) or is there a better way?

Of course it's important to also have time included in the report, are we
better the last 3 months than the 3 before?

Of course we take care of the answers each week, and handle unsatisfied
answers, works, but we miss a way to clearly report the surveyresults with
focus on 'This is our poor area'.

Any comments will be appreciated. The survey itself works perfectly.

Re: Migrator 6 and 7 - DEFECT

2006-08-15 Thread Scott, Sean
No problem,

I did execute a few quick tests, for fields, forms and Active Links and
it is working fine, but I will continue to examine the issue in more
detail if this information does not help.

Also check the following
1. The mask option for change history is enabled for Active Links, which
I am sure you did.
2. Make sure that the latest "Last Changed Time" on the source for the
change history items are actually newer than the latest "Last Changed
Time" on the destination. We only extract items from the source that are
newer than the destination items and then merge those into the
destination change history.

Thanks,
Sean

Remedy had me double check those options.

Under "Change History" I have "Merge Change History" selected.

Under "Masks, Forms, Fields" I have "Change History" selected.

And with these options no change history gets migrated - tested this
with an
active link.

Tomcat whitepager is pretty much UNIX only but I think I configured the variables correctly.

I am able to log into Midtier config and I can get to user login screen but it always fails with ARERR 623 Authentication failed.

The config tool still shows Java Version 1.5.0_06 which is the JRE I had originally installed since it was required by SLM installer. I have since uninstalled it.

I also configured catalina.sh as outlined in the white paper.

Our web guru tells me that I should also have a JAVA_HOME environment variable which points to JDK, so I did that too but it still does not work.

I could not find a place in the midtier where I can reconfigure the Java version ? I can only assume it get's that information automatically from Tomcat.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've noticed it happens when the 'size' of the window changes.. By 'size' I mean when you have the window open in a resize window mode, the size of that window. This size to the best of my awareness of the system is stored internally within the view information and is used to size the dialog box when opened in the web views.. So whenever this size is changed, by either the user action of resizing the window or 'automatically' when a window is opened (which I am not aware of as to why it ever does that) you get your save form option enabled on your admin tool.

Does anyone know why merely selecting a different view in the Admin tool often "changes" something on the form such that when you close it again, ensuring you've actually made 0 changes, it prompts you if you want to save?

Re: Filtering attachment file types

2006-08-15 Thread David Broderick
**

Hi Rick,

To do this you can use a few functions to chop the last say
6 chars from the end of the attachment name.  You can then look for the
first occurrence of a full stop, note its position and then take the remaining
characters being the file extension.  You then have a
filter that checks for your file extension.

You can use a few zTmp display only fields to
hold the values of the following

RIGHT([Field_Name], 6)
get last 6 chars
STRSTR(Field_Name,.)
find position of full stop (X)
SUBSTR([Field_Name],(X))
leaves you with file extension

If you have multiple attachment fields, use a filter guide
to step through the fields until you find an attachment that is forbidden and
then throw an error.

Lettuce know how you get on.

Rgds,

Dave

Re: BMC UserWorld 2006: ARSlister Identification - Hawaiian Shirts?

2006-08-15 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I did notice that more folks were sporting Hawaiian shirts last year than ever.
Since Dan didn't like mine at the last ARSList Awards ceremony, I went out and
got one that I claim will trump his. If anyone has one (or would like to get
one and wear it - Walmart?, Target?) and would like to "show your support",
please do. In the event of a lull in the ARSList Awards, I told Dan that we
may have an impromptu "Hawaiian Shirt Contest". I know that Joel, Thomas, and
Dan will be among those of us with entertaining prints. I will give anyone who
shows up at the ARSList Awards with a Hawaiian shirt a special "Remedy
reminiscent" surprise gift at the ceremony.

Re: ITSM 7.0 Group Names ?

2006-08-15 Thread Chris Rom
here is the answer from Remedy Support:

I'm following up on your issue regarding the Group Name in the Group form.

I researched this issue and found that the application was designed this
way because the Support Group Name length can exceed the max field size in
the group form. Therefore, the decision was made to use the generated ID.
These groups are used for row level only of type "none" and are not exposed
in regular use. The name in Long Group Name is intended for Administrators
when there is a need to diagnose issues.

I hope this answers your question.

Re: Filtering attachment file types

2006-08-15 Thread Heider, Stephen

Rick,

In a Filter use a Set Fields to set a Character
field to the value of the LOWER(Attachment Field).  This should populate
the Character field with the filename and other info.  Fortunately, the
filename is the last item in the semi-colon delimited list.

In the next filter check for:  NOT
( 'Filename' LIKE "%.xls" OR 'Filename' LIKE "%.doc" OR 'Filename' LIKE
"%.etc")

If true, then display an error
message.

Regarding the attachment form, you can use drag-n-drop
with it.  Create a display only form with an attachment pool and one
attachment field.  This form can be accessed by a button from many
different forms.

Users would drag a file into the attachment pool as
usual. Then they would click a button to Save it. The Save button would push the
attachment to your attachment form and then clear the attachment pool on the DO
form waiting for the next file.

HTH

Stephen

Hi Bob,

I've seen this as well. In our user's case, it followed the machine, not the
user. It turned out their PC had several pieces of spyware, adware, and a few
viruses. After cleaning all of those off, reloading IE on their machine, and
recreating their user.dat, it worked fine.

control over file types if I went to an attachment form, but then I'd lose
the drag and drop functionality that the users probably want more than they want
the file type limitations.

I had stated before in the past archives..
V5 not supported.. for field migration. sorry..
Better check your compatibility chart..
See Remedy does not support V5 with a V7 application ..
I suppose they could.. but do not..
it is a migrator tool just for the previous version.. I guess.

Also, I can't see the multi-threaded option working. If you get Migrator to
migrate data from a number of forms at the same time it still seems to hop
between jobs rather than processing them in parallel. I haven't done any
scientific test of this, it's just an impression.

Other than that it seems reasonably stable.

Re: Remedy and Lotus Domino Integration

2006-08-15 Thread Chris Ingalls
I have written apps to read and write records in a Lotus database using
perl. Also, often use ARSperl to read and write data into Remedy. If you
have some PERL skills, I'd recommend writing a small executable to
periodically query Lotus and update and create records in Remedy. You'd
probably need to add a field on the Remedy Helpdesk to track your key ID
field from Lotus. If you need any help with some sample perl bits,
contact me offline.

Check if the JRE was installed.  Tomcat (and Mid-Tier by default) need it.  Also make sure that you have a JAVA_HOME and that the Java program's location is in your PATH (this also applies to Windows.)

Virtually anything is possible.

Simple example:  If the Lotus Domino cases (records) can be
automatically dumped to a CSV-type file then there are various routines/systems
for automatically moving CSV data to Remedy.

BMC UserWorld 2006: ARSlister Identification

2006-08-15 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
For those ARSlisters that are getting to go to BMC UserWorld
there will be pins available at the "gift pick-up" area. Just ask for one
mentioning you are on the ARSlist.

I usually wander around with them as well so if you happen to spot me
and didn't get one, just ask.

For those that haven't decided to go yet, just think, along with all the
cool sessions,
people to talk to, an evening with Engineering and neat givaways at the
product showcase,
you also get to attend the Party, the ARSlist Awards,

and now a Free Pin! What more could you want?

Okay, and I'll throw in this years magnetic words square.

(you can see the old pin and magnetic words at wwrug.org
the pin is at the bottom of the opening page and the magnetic word
square pdf is under RUG 2005 Memorabilia).

Humour

that was a compromise since after all,
we

Many

Once
we get to Friday, I would just suggest that people
keep
in mind that in today's overzealous SPAM and other subject

you

Re: How to random get 100 entries form a table list.

2006-08-15 Thread Carey Matthew Black

Dwayne,

Point well taken. The described "method of randomness" certainly has
biases that make it less than truly random and, to the best of my
knowledge, all "random number generators" really have those things. (
Which is the primary reason I tried to deal with that portion of the
question separately, and first. :)

You could do something like you described...

However:
That "re-sort" is not really an option (via workflow) if your
only using a display only field as a column in the table. (Well, I do
not know how to do it. Really to bad that there is not a
PERFORM-ACTION-TABLE-SORT [[;;;] |
[col_number;col_number;col_number;]| "null for defined sort order"]
type special process.) You could choose to push those numbers into the
underlying data records(one per record to be updated) but there are
some "client <--> ARS server <--> RDBMS" traffic to deal with too and
the filters to update all those data rows. And the uesr would need to
be able to modify those rows too. Then the table field needs to have
the sort order set the "right way" and you do not want your users
messing with it either. (Or maybe you do not care and can consider
that "yet another" degree of "randomness" too. :)

Also if the user asks for 10 records from a table field of 1000
rows. There really is no need to create 1000 random numbers. You just
need 10.

However, instead of making 100's of calls to create 100's of Random
numbers(some of which you will not use) it might be better to create
"n" random numbers and guard against using the same "random number"
twice too. (Keep track of the random numbers that you get in a display
only field with a separator between the numbers, and only use the
newly generated number if it does not exist in the list already.)
Selecting each randomly selected row (by number) in the table as a
new number is generated and accepted. Then you can walk the table once
based on the "Selected rows" table walk too.

That would be good option and would produce a slightly more "random"
distribution. It would only cost you the network traffic and RDBMs
time of generating the "random" numbers from your RDBMS and could save
you walking the table a few times. (Which if the number of rows is
large, will cost you something too.)

If the added cost is worth the improved "randomness" then it might be
a good direction to head in.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Do you know if other RDBM's that ARS supports has similar random
number generator features?

In Oracle the equation:
   select trunc(DBMS_RANDOM.value(0,1000)) from dual

If you are looping a table, the entries in the top of the
table have a slightly better chance of getting picked than
those on the bottom. Eg, if you find enuf entries before you
get to the bottom, those on the bottom don't have any chance.
If you get to the bottom and start over those at the top get
two chances, but those at the bottom only get one, etc.

Depending on how important this is, you could use your random
process to go thru and give each entry a random sort number,
then sort your table by this number, and select however many
you want from the top.

Re: Search on diary field

2006-08-15 Thread Mike White
Works fine on Oracle. You need Full Text Search (FTS), though. It's
pretty well-documented, but essentially you need to purchase FTS licenses,
allocate them to appropriate users (Full Text License Type), and index
desired fields for FTS (field Properties, Database page, note checkbox -
Index For FTS).

Also noteworthy, contents of diary fields that have been indexed for FTS
are "visible" to workflow. This can be a good or bad thing.

Re: Pushing values to the CTM:People Form

2006-08-15 Thread Ross Mitcham
Status Transition errors may also be avoided by using data configuration:

1) When pushing data in the CTM:People form, try pushing "Proposed" as the
People status (this is an acceptable status transition for the unknown
user, ex. AR_ESCALATOR)
or
2) In the SYS:Status Transition Rules form, lookup the record for
WorkFlow Tag Name = "CTM:People" &
System Role = "General Access" &
To Status = "Enabled"
>From Status = NULL

Once you find this record, you can change this records status to offline
and then the status transition issue should no longer be a problem.

Ric,

Kaiser and Ron have described it correctly.. If you are in the USA call me and I'll be happy to explain what to do just in case you are not clear.

I was considering submitting a request to Remedy to do this, but now am wondering whether I should when I know a workaround for this.. But yes having a lock feature would be perhaps more useful than the workaround I have suggested as you would not really need to worry about 'forgeting' to hold down that shift key...

What is the ideal configuration for Remedy Mid-Tier 6.0 on a Windows 2000

Re: How to random get 100 entries form a table list.

2006-08-15 Thread Dwayne Martin
In Oracle the equation:
   select trunc(DBMS_RANDOM.value(0,1000)) from dual
gives you a random number of 1 - 999.

Re: Cannot print Audit Trail via Print Change Request...

2006-08-15 Thread GoDario27
It appears that the Status*-History field shows the history of status changes
to the record, (i.e., new, assigned, work in progress, etc.) but not the
actual fields that changed and who changed them. Great to know, though!

I'm thinking I'll join the two forms...and then I'll have to learn how to
add each multiple record in the Audit form into one field on the Change
form.

Heven as a newbie, I assume I'll *never* run out of things to learn
in Remedy! I've only *just* begun!! s:)

Thanks for you help.

Re: Need help w/ .NET & CreateEntry

2006-08-15 Thread Heider, Stephen
Chris,

It looks like you are on the right track. Just a comment on a
programming approach that may help reduce some coding and
troubleshooting.

Since you are using VB.Net consider using strong typing instead of
CreateObject.

On the Property Pages screen (Project -> Properties -> Build) set the
Option Explicit and Option Strict to On. This will enforce strong
typing and ensure that all vars are defined.

Instead of:

Dim remedyServer
remedyServer = CreateObject("BMC.ARSystem.Server")

Use this:

Dim remedyServer As New BMC.ARSystem.Server

If you haven't already, set a Reference to the BMC.ARSystem.dll file.

There are a few advantages to using strong typing in VB.Net.

1. You can make use of the IntelliSense drop-down list of methods and
properties in the objects. When you type "remedyServer" and then a "."
you can see all the options available to you.

2. Allows you to code faster and helps eliminate typos. When you select
a method or property from IntelliSense you don't have to type out the
method/property, just select it. This also speeds development.

3. Strong typed code executes faster because the compiler already knows
what type of object it's dealing with at design time instead of waiting
until run time.

HTH.

Stephen

Tim,

Tks. for the info. This is the first week I have ever had the necessity
to interact w/ remedy. By trade I am an applications developer, but I
also get tasked w/ interactivity solutions. This particular one needed
to have a web form interact w/ various platforms then feed into remedy
and since I have never used remedy, I had no idea what the method to
their madness was.

Currently I am rewriting the code to access a regular form and see if
that works. Either way, I will send feedback within the next 24-48 hrs.

2006-08-15 Thread Matthew Sibley

Hi List

Fusion have the largest number of Remedy customers in the UK
and for over 10 years we have successfully built, implemented and supported our
customer’s mission critical Remedy systems.

We currently have a need for an experienced Remedy
Consultant to join a high profile customer project, based from our offices in West London (initially). We require an experienced Consultant/Developer
with good exposure to OTS ITSM 6.3 (HD, Change and Asset in particular) to join
this project for an initial 6 month period to offer development and consultancy
expertise. There is an opportunity on this project to deliver some of your work
stream remotely. Fusion is also happy to discuss charging structures, i.e. work
packages or we can look to apply a competitive daily rate for the duration of
the assignment.

The start date for this project is Monday 4th September
and this is a full time requirement. If anyone is interested please contact me
ASAP.

I would also welcome introductions from experienced Remedy
consultants who can offer short term, adhoc or part time expertise to Fusion.

Many thanks
