regarding View form.

2007-01-22 Thread Kalyan Krishna Nethy
Hello list,

I've a view form in my server. I deleted a field from the form as well as
from the corresponding database view. Should I need to re-create the View
form? Whenever, I 'm trying to search the form, it throws a database
error, "ARERR [552] Failure during SQL operation to the database : Invalid
object name 'T5454'. (SQL Server 208).".

I copied the form into a new form and it works fine. I'm even able to
query the new form using t-table in the database.

Please let me know the solution for this problem.

Regards,
Kalyan Krishna N.

note that there are other possibilities, network devices, server farm

If you turn on server statistics, you can see if there are any thread
blocking issues with any of the queues.
When this is occurring, use ldp.exe to attempt to perform a query against
the directory. If the response times out/is slow, you know your problem
exists on the AD server side.

ldp.exe is MS's ldap query tool.

Pat you are correct, this is a HIPPA issue. For the most part we only
allow access through the ARODBC. But you did bring up another issue
that we haven't addressed yet, we do have another connection or two that
needs to be looked at that also has a direct DB connection. I will be
bringing that up to our management.

But that does not prevent someone connecting through the ODBC connectors
outside ARS and pull the data.
I could use the DB to Gain access to ARS data, and you not know it...
This is the Hippa issue.
Auditing on the DB is a must.

it is the Secure approach)

Re: How to start using field 112 after 200k rows

2007-01-22 Thread L. J. Head
Let me interject something in here that you may not have been aware of.
When enabling 'Allow multiple assign groups' you are in essence killing your
performance. This is due to the fact that remedy will do a 'c112' LIKE
%$ ' type of search when performing searches on records. I believe
an alternative may be the dynamic group fields that are in the range of
6-60999. You obviously know how to read the manuals so I won't bore you
with the specifics of how they work...but I would recommend trying to
determine if you can use those instead. The only problem that I see with
this approach is the 'every group that has ever been assigned a ticket'
part...and I don't know if that is necessary in your situation...but either
way this could work out in your favor...because instead of one field
managing all of them...you could have a field for each category i.e.
(assigned groups, child assigned workgroup)

Subject: How to start using field 112 after 200k rows

Please excuse this long post. I'm stuck and need another set of eyes. I have
a feeling what I'm trying to do should not be as hard as it seems, but it's
kickin' my butt right now. I need a sanity check on overall approach to do
the following, and some advice on specific issues we are running into,
before my head explodes.

Problem: Management wants to change our security access model, including on
existing 200k helpdesk records, including parent and child helpdesk records.
Assignee Group field 112 has never been used here, but we now need to start
restricting access according to the following rules:

1) On Submit - Login+ name, Submitted by Group ID, and Assigned Group ID,
should be appended into field 112.

2) On Modify - If Assigned Group is changed, append new Assigned Group ID to
112 of Parent. Also append new Assigned Group ID of Parent to field 112 for
any/all child tickets.

3) On Modify - If Login+ name is changed, add new Login+ to 112.

4) On Submit of Child Tickets - Append the Assigned Workgroup from the Child
to field 112 for the Parent.

The tricky part seems to be keeping the parent and child 112 fields in sync
so the parents can still see the children, etc even if the children have
different Assigned Groups. Also, it seems tricky because it's an append and
not just a simple push and replace, and we can't wipe out what was there in
112, but must add to it.

What I've Tried: First, for the 200k historical records, if I understand
field 112 functionality, I'm thinking we can run an escalation to look up
the Group ID from the Group table for existing records and put the Group ID
into field 112. Then hopefully our reports will still work.

For new submits, I'm thinking we can have filters append Login+ name, look
up submitter Group ID and Assigned Group ID and append these to 112. As I
understand it, we can use a " ; " delimiter and concatenate to do this.

For submit of child tickets, I was thinking I could send an event and use an
active link guide that refreshes the child table field on the parent, loop
through the table field, get all the child group ids, and append them to the
parent field 112. But this isn't working like I thought it should. I can't
get the table refresh to fire in the right sequence. The log shows it doing
everything else, then refreshing the table. Which is too late for my
purposes. Interestingly, if I manually click on the table field and refresh
it, the lookups and appends seem to put everything into 112 ok. But I can't
get it to work automagically.

I tried Remedy Support, and they were unable or unwilling to help, but
instead referred me to this list... Hmmm. Has anyone ever been in this
situation? Am I missing something obvious to anyone? I tried putting the
table refresh in a separate active link with a lower execution order, but
still no luck. How can I make an active link table refresh fire, then loop
through to pick up the child group ids? I read about the `! trick for
forcing filters to execute, but how can I force a table refresh from an
active link? And does my overall approach seem on the right track? Forgive
me if this is unclear, my brain is having a hard time with this one.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi William
this might be a really stupid question but, why not use Set Fields to
retrieve the group list from the child form? rather than work with tables.
surely you have a unique field that identifies the child record? if so then
just run an active link that gets the value set in the field and append it to
the parent form.

How to start using field 112 after 200k rows

2007-01-22 Thread William Broderick
Please excuse this long post. I’m stuck and need another set of eyes. I
have a feeling what I’m trying to do should not be as hard as it seems, but
it’s kickin’ my butt right now. I need a sanity check on overall approach
to do the following, and some advice on specific issues we are running
into, before my head explodes.

Problem: Management wants to change our security access model, including
on existing 200k helpdesk records, including parent and child helpdesk
records. Assignee Group field 112 has never been used here, but we now need
to start restricting access according to the following rules:

1) On Submit - Login+ name, Submitted by Group ID, and Assigned Group ID,
should be appended into field 112.

2) On Modify - If Assigned Group is changed, append new Assigned Group ID
to 112 of Parent. Also append new Assigned Group ID of Parent to field 112
for any/all child tickets.

3) On Modify - If Login+ name is changed, add new Login+ to 112.

4) On Submit of Child Tickets - Append the Assigned Workgroup from the
Child to field 112 for the Parent.

The tricky part seems to be keeping the parent and child 112 fields in sync
so the parents can still see the children, etc even if the children have
different Assigned Groups. Also, it seems tricky because it’s an append and
not just a simple push and replace, and we can’t wipe out what was there in
112, but must add to it.

What I’ve Tried: First, for the 200k historical records, if I understand
field 112 functionality, I’m thinking we can run an escalation to look up
the Group ID from the Group table for existing records and put the Group ID
into field 112. Then hopefully our reports will still work.

For new submits, I’m thinking we can have filters append Login+ name, look
up submitter Group ID and Assigned Group ID and append these to 112. As I
understand it, we can use a “ ; “ delimiter and concatenate to do this.

For submit of child tickets, I was thinking I could send an event and use
an active link guide that refreshes the child table field on the parent,
loop through the table field, get all the child group ids, and append them
to the parent field 112. But this isn’t working like I thought it should. I
can’t get the table refresh to fire in the right sequence. The log shows it
doing everything else, then refreshing the table. Which is too late for my
purposes. Interestingly, if I manually click on the table field and
refresh it, the lookups and appends seem to put everything into 112 ok. But
I can’t get it to work automagically.

It is fire from a button on an display-only from. It opens a window of the

When I convert the macro to an active link, it creates an "open window"

Is there a simple way I can make that happen again?

EXT AUTH - Authentication service not responding

2007-01-22 Thread Nick Hromyak
On our Remedy server, in the User.log files we have intermittent logs
showing:

  /* Mon Jan 22
2007 12:13:57.7880 */ INFO EXT AUTH The authentication service is
not responding. Cannot connect to the system at this time. Contact your
AR System Administrator for assistance.

No one can logon during this time period. It happens for about five
minutes and now is taking over 15 minutes and not at a consistent rate
(like every hour).

We do have AREA authentication with Cross-Reference blank password, but I
have noticed this is not an isolated issue with the Domain users as noted
above with Joe User.

Where can I look for this issue?

I noticed this Authentication uses the FAST threads, hence, we thought we
could set the Threads up from minimum 2 / Max 4 to 4 and 8 respectively.

Thank you in advance.

I've seen this before. The date was hard coded in a macro a user had created.
The user tried to circumvent some workflow by adjusting the end date stored in

Re: Logging if someone accessed form data from Crystal Reports

2007-01-22 Thread Jason Miller
Joe may be on to something here. You can trigger a filter on Get Entry and
this works for the client, Crystal, MS Access, etc (client type = 6 does
work to limit it to just ARODBC but in the below example it should always
fire). There was a thread "Question: Disable ODBC" on 11/5/06 regarding
Client-Type= 6 and ARODBC access. The problem here is that is not specific
to a field(s), just the record as a whole.

But what if you store all of the Permissioned data as separate records
related to the parent in a second form and used a table field to view them
from the parent. If you are familiar with version 6 of Asset it is like the
"Additional Data" functionality. Then have a filter fire on Get Entry from
the Permissioned form and create audit records for each PHI record that was
accessed. This same filter would also fire when accessed by the ARODBC
driver from Crystal.

This only covers the ARS side of things so you will need to makes sure that
the DB has sufficient protection as well.

Jason

2007-01-22 Thread Easter, David
Also note the big bulleted section that says:
Additional information AR System 6.03 and AR System 7.0.01 customers

Failure to load the patches will result in the following issues:

Display of date/time information within a mid-tier web client will be
off by one hour if performed between the "old" DST window and the "new"
DST window (for example, between March 11 and April 1, 2007, or between
October 28 and November 4, 2007).

Functions that the mid tier performs for web clients (for example,
active links) will be off by one hour if performed between the "old" DST
window and the "new" DST window.

Custom Java applications that use the utilities that the Java API
provides to perform date/time calculations will be off by one hour if
performed between the "old" DST window and the "new" DST window.

These will also occur on AR System 6.3 without patch 020. However you
are correct that if you do not use web services and do not use
import/export between the "old" DST window and the "new" DST window,
those particular issues would not affect you.

by 1 hour". Regarding Web Services, it's a non-issue we're not
leveraging that at this time. Import/Export will be off by 1 hour; so if
we don't import or export data then that too is a non-issue? We
don't do that either. Am I understanding this correctly?

If crystal is the only external app using the AR System ODBC driver, maybe you
could try to log an attempt to perform a search, when the CLIENT-TYPE is the AR
ODBC driver.. I think the value for that is 6... I haven't tried it but it must

Patch 20

2007-01-22 Thread Ken Mogensen
Hello All.

I'm trying to get a better understanding regarding the Operation Impact column
on the matrix table for the DST March 2007 change. On the matrix it states "Web
Services and Import/Export time calculations will be off by 1 hour". Regarding
Web Services, it's a non-issue we're not leveraging that at this time.
Import/Export will be off by 1 hour; so if we don't import or export data then
that too is a non-issue? We don't do that either. Am I understanding this
correctly?

we're on:
ARS 6.0.1 patch 1420
Mid Tier 6.03.00 patch 15

Re: 5.x User Client Against 7.x AR Server

2007-01-22 Thread Axton

Also, if using a unicode db, using pre 7.0.01 clients will cause a massive
memory leak in the arserverd. I believe this is fixed in patch 001. We
received pre-QA patch 001 that addressed the issue, but I see no mention of
the issue in the server readme for 7.0.01 server patch 001.

With paging, be sure that your message doesn't exceed character limits.
Example: Subject line may have a 128 character limit. Also, special

Try sending the message to your email address. Look for anything odd.
Often a service provider will not accept an email if the from email
address is not valid. It could also be a formatting issue. Once you
have a test email sent to you then copy and paste the message into a new
email. Send that on. Also forward the original.

Most likely the email engine log is showing that the message was sent.
It wouldn't show successful delivery to the service provider.

There are several reasons why this could be happening and they may not
be related to the AR System. The service provider may be rejecting the
email. The email address may be invalid. Service provider no longer
accepts message through SMTP Gateway.

Have you tried sending a test message through your email address?

Well...as you can tell...Email is not a guaranteed delivery scenario. I
would suggest trying to do snpp paging if it is an option with the
provider...at least with SNPP you get confirmation from the provider that
the message was accepted...you still cannot guarantee delivery...but it's a
bit more reliable than email...and faster too

Try sending the message to your email address. Look for anything odd.
Often a service provider will not accept an email if the from email
address is not valid. It could also be a formatting issue. Once you
have a test email sent to you then copy and paste the message into a new
email. Send that on. Also forward the original.

It wouldn't show successful delivery to the service provider.

There are several reasons why this could be happening and they may not
be related to the AR System. The service provider may be rejecting the

Re: need clarification......

2007-01-22 Thread Carey Matthew Black

LJ.

And the real problem is that the filter has no idea if it was call in
the context of an AL Push action, FL Push action, Web Service call, or
a Client "Submit/Modify" action. It just knows that the SERVER is
doing a Submit or Modify and not how it was asked to do that type of
transaction. ( So I doubt you can solve this problem, with the
restrictions requested, "properly" without some kind of "flag" between
the Client and Server, or Server and Client.)

And even worst than that, there could be other client settings that
alter what values are on the client after a Submit/Modify. (like "keep
previous after submit" or "Clear all after Submit".)

ARS tenet:

What must always or NEVER happen needs to be a Filter. ( Business Rules )
What could happen, depending on a user choice, should most likely be
an active link. ( User Help functions.)

So if the "Button push" must always happen when the filter detects
some condition then that workflow needs to be in Filters and not
Active Links. (And if the button could also be user requested then it
likely should be changed to pass a flag to trigger the same filters in
question to to their job as part of a Modify action.)

Re: Opening a new browser window

...on a related note, if you need to determine if a particular program
is installed you could use a Set Fields $PROCESS$.

$zTmpField1$ = "C:\Program Files\DameWare Development\DameWare Mini
Remote Control\dwrcc.exe"

$zTmpField2$ = $PROCESS$ cmd.exe /c "if exist """$zTmpField1$""" (echo
Yes) else (echo No)"

The next Run If qualification would be: 'zTmpField2' LIKE "Y%"

You could use this to test for other browsers.

When users login and first load the startup form I test for the
existence of certain programs and versions, for example Excel, Outlook,
Remote Control, IE, etc. I store the full path's in global fields so
that whenever I need a path to a program I only have to add the
particular global field to a new form.

Thanks to all who replied to this.

To explain better what I was trying to do, we have a field that contains
a FedEx tracking number. Management wanted to be able to have a user
click a link, and have just FedEx's basic tracking information appear
within a Remedy Dislpay Only form. They also wanted the ability to copy
and paste as a table.

I created a small shell script called fedex:
wget -O t1 -q --proxy
http://mobile.fedex.com/wince/tracking_query.xml?trackNumber=$1
cat t1

(I chose http://mobile.fedex.com, as their interface is already quite
stripped down, and it changes very infrequently)

I was then able to perform the following Set Field for a View field:
$PROCESS$ @@:/RMD/home/rmduow01/fedex $FedEx Tracking Number$

A few more Set Field Functions called within the same active link, as
viola, only the info we need, and everything looks pretty as it's now
formatted as a table similar to the following:
Tracking No:
Status: Delivered
Shipping Date: MM/DD/
Delivery Location: ANYTOWN, OH
Delivery Date/Time: MM/DD/ HH:MM
Signed By: C.FARLEY
Service Type: FedEx XDay Service

It was later requested that I add a link to this form, so that if a user
wanted to, they could easily open the FedEx tracking page.

My preference was Michiel had suggested, to use a View field in a DO
form. My preference did not win out, and it was decided that it should
open in a new window using a user's default browser, with all the trim.

Previously, when we'd only had Internet Explorer, I'd done links similar
to how Stephen suggested, such as:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE"
http://fedex.com/Tracking?tracknumbers=

Now that we have multiple browsers, this is trickier. I ended up
combining Steve's suggestion with one from a coworker, and option C from
the original email. I ended up using the following Set Field to detect
if "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" is checked within Internet
Explorer:
$PROCESS$ for /f "delims=x tokens=2" %f in ('reg query
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main"^|find
"AllowWindowReuse"') do @echo %f

If a 0 is returned, I then use option C from a hidden button, and then
unhide the button. This allows the FedEx site to open in new tab in IE7
or Opera, or a new windows in IE6.

If a 1 is returned, I append the following to the HTML inside the View
field:
http://fedex.com/Tracking?tracknumbers=";
target="_blank">URL name

This forces the link to open in a new browser window.

Thanks again all,

Eric Cleereman

I do not know what your users are supposed to be using their browsers

Jim,

Using the logs is not the only way to capture this type of information.
It is also possible to capture the Workstation and USERID using Remedy
workflow at the time of login. I have implemented this in past
engagements but have not attempted to do the same for IP. You should
however be able to determine the IP if you have the Workstation name.

I am assuming that your role is more management than technical when it
comes to Remedy. Have you discussed this with your Remedy Development
team? I am sure they will be able to explore this and other potential
solutions. Cheers,

Guy Remedy

Re: Opening a new browser window

2007-01-22 Thread Eric Cleereman (IT)
Thanks to all who replied to this.

To explain better what I was trying to do, we have a field that contains a
FedEx tracking number. Management wanted to be able to have a user click a
link, and have just FedEx's basic tracking information appear within a Remedy
Dislpay Only form. They also wanted the ability to copy and paste as a table.

I created a small shell script called fedex:
wget -O t1 -q --proxy
http://mobile.fedex.com/wince/tracking_query.xml?trackNumber=$1
cat t1

(I chose http://mobile.fedex.com, as their interface is already quite stripped
down, and it changes very infrequently)

I was then able to perform the following Set Field for a View field:
$PROCESS$ @@:/RMD/home/rmduow01/fedex $FedEx Tracking Number$

A few more Set Field Functions called within the same active link, as viola,
only the info we need, and everything looks pretty as it's now formatted as a
table similar to the following:
Tracking No:
Status: Delivered
Shipping Date: MM/DD/
Delivery Location: ANYTOWN, OH
Delivery Date/Time: MM/DD/ HH:MM
Signed By: C.FARLEY
Service Type: FedEx XDay Service

It was later requested that I add a link to this form, so that if a user wanted
to, they could easily open the FedEx tracking page.

My preference was Michiel had suggested, to use a View field in a DO form. My
preference did not win out, and it was decided that it should open in a new
window using a user's default browser, with all the trim.

Previously, when we'd only had Internet Explorer, I'd done links similar to how
Stephen suggested, such as:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE"
http://fedex.com/Tracking?tracknumbers=

Now that we have multiple browsers, this is trickier. I ended up combining
Steve's suggestion with one from a coworker, and option C from the original
email. I ended up using the following Set Field to detect if "Reuse windows
for launching shortcuts" is checked within Internet Explorer:
$PROCESS$ for /f "delims=x tokens=2" %f in ('reg query
"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main"^|find "AllowWindowReuse"') do
@echo %f

If a 0 is returned, I then use option C from a hidden button, and then unhide
the button. This allows the FedEx site to open in new tab in IE7 or Opera, or
a new windows in IE6.

If a 1 is returned, I append the following to the HTML inside the View field:
http://fedex.com/Tracking?tracknumbers=";
target="_blank">URL name

This forces the link to open in a new browser window.

Thanks again all,

Eric Cleereman

The way I do it here is to run IE's .exe with the URL in a Run Process.

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" http:\\google.com

This opens the URL in a new window.

** Hi Eric,

I do not know what your users are supposed to be using their browsers for, but
one option might be is to create a Remedy DO form with a View field on it with
the URL you want and open this using workflow. Now you can control how this
will open. This might be a solution if you only want them to be on one site and
the drawback is that there is no navigation available (back button and stuff
like that).

Kind regards,

Michiel

Hum... based on the limited info you provided I am not sure
where the
break down is. But here is some information that might help you
figure
it out based on the rest of the data you see in the logs.

( I am only talking about outbound email here. )

What the Email Engine does is login to the ARS sever (using the
application password) and get the Email Config info. Assuming
that
works then it should be able to also read data from the AR
System
Email Messages form. It will use the Email Config info to "do
the
right thing" with messages that are waiting to be sent. ('Send
Message' = "Yes")

If the Email Engine is getting this far and failing to connect
to the
SMTP server then I think you will only see errors in the email
engine
logs. (But you might also see AR System Email Error Log form
entries
too.)

ON the other hand

If the Email Engine is unable to talk to the ARS server (via the
application password) then it will not even be able to read the
Email
Config form or the "AR System Email Messages" form.

So if that Authentication error is specific to the SMTP server,
then
you likely need to fix the data in the MailBox Config form. (or
maybe
your NT Account has been locked/disabled/password changed?)

If the Authentication error is specific to the Email Engine
login to
ARS, then you need to updates is "application password" in it's
config
file. (See the docs for details.)

Re: Form hangs on display SOLVED

2007-01-22 Thread Dwayne Martin
I have a table on the form that displays entries from
GN:CallEntry, our main call-tracking form. The selection
criteria is "EXTERNAL( $Find Entries Entry list$)", which
means, Go to "Find Entries Entry list" and get the selection
criteria.

I had an active link that was supposed to set "Find Entries
Entry list" to "Entry ID = $NULL$" on display of a record.
Since no Entry ID can be null the table will be empty on display.

Something happened to that active link, and since I am the
only Remedy developer around here it had to have been my
mistake. Anyway, without that active link, the table was
trying to load all 50,000 GN:CallEntries.

Thanks to all who replied,

Dwayne

We actually used the USNCreated value for our unique id. This value is
never imported into ARS, but it does fulfill the needs of the importing

Try using the employeeID field. That is populated with the EDI/PI
number that is unique to the employee and is their CAC card number.
They can't get a computer account without one. EDI/PI number is 11
characters long.

I found some old references (10/2005) to this same issue, but I've not
been able to resolve for me yet.

Andrew Baxter asked for clarification "I would like to know what you are
using as your RequestID field". The issue I'm finding seems to be
related to the fact that my RequestID field is more than 15 characters.
My problem is that I have nothing unique that is shorter than 15
characters. How can I get around this?

variable PROGRAMFILES in Active Link Action

2007-01-22 Thread Jose Rodriguez
Hi All,
I have found a extrange behaviour on my ARS 5.1.2:

I have an Active Link with a Run Process Action and the command line is:
%PROGRAMFILES%\MyDirectory\ExeFile.exe %PROGRAMFILES%
\MyDirectory\ConfigFile.cfg

And this is what I get in the log file:
  2: Run Process
   Process: C:\Program Files\MyDirectory\ExeFile.exe
%PROGRAMFILES%\MyDirectory\ConfigFile.cfg

The first variable is translated but, the others are not.
We have found that when the command line starts with the variable %
PROGRAMFILES%, the rest of the variables are not translated.

I haven't found any references about this behaviour, has anyone experienced
anything like that?

Thanks in advance,
   Jose Rodriguez

Re: Trace a user to an IP address?

2007-01-22 Thread Dave Barber

I've done the same, pulling the Workstation name, which depending on your
network, is virtually as good.

I was getting the workstation name for some workflow specific to one PC
(changed the default ticket source to fax for a machine dedicated to
scanning of documents), look through the list archives for details.

On 19/01/07, Guy Remedy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Jim,

Using the logs is not the only way to capture this type of
information. It
is also possible to capture the Workstation and USERID using Remedy
workflow
at the time of login. I have implemented this in past engagements but
have
not attempted to do the same for IP. You should however be able to
determine the IP if you have the Workstation name.

I am assuming that your role is more management than technical when it
comes
to Remedy. Have you discussed this with your Remedy Development team? I
am
sure they will be able to explore this and other potential
solutions. Cheers,

Guy Remedy
