Hi All,

I have a query related to European character set support. I have checked
the archives but it all got very confusing so I am asking it once again.

The production environment supports European character set. I ran this
query SELECT value$ FROM sys.props$ WHERE name = 'NLS_CHARACTERSET' in
the production and got the result as
WE8ISO8859P1. When I ran the same query in the dev environment I got the
same result but dev environment changes all the European characters to
"?".

There is no DB charset entry in ar.conf file.

AR Server : 7.0.1

Database:Oracle9i

What am I missing?

Mike,
You are able to login without ssl, correct? If you feel that your certs
are correct then you have to focus on the AREA LDAP form. BMC support wasn't
very helpful and not many people have implemented LDAP authentication for
Remedy. You have to remember the cn= or ou= prefixes on the Distinguished
Name, User Base and User search Filter fields when configuring the AREA LDAP
. Take a look at the arplugin.log file when you connect successfully without
ssl and then enable ssl, try logging in and look at the log again. You can
send me the log and I'll take a look at it. Is port 636 open on both sides?

Hello list.

It's been a while since my last post. I've been in the .NET world for a
while.

I just wanted to post my ordeal in trying to get LDAP over SSL going.

I am using LDAP without SSL currently. I have been struggling for weeks
trying to get SSL going.
After much correspondence with BMC support, logs, patches etc. I finally was
able to get the certificate imported into the cert7.db file. It seems like
black magic. However, to test it I was never able to verify it by
navigating in Netscape to the LDAP server because of an authentication
window that pops up when I navigate to the LDAP server. I tried my
credentials, the distinguished name and password, I even had the AD admin
try to login. No go. Can't get past the dialog box. The AD LDAP server is
Windows 2003. I found a 2000 LDAP server online that I was able to connect
to without authentication and download the certificate via Netscape.
Documentation would have been great if we were running 2000 AD. Seems there
are some changes in 2003. Anyway, every time I enable SSL the arplugin dies
and core dumps. Nice. I have an open issue/ticket with BMC and it is
currently escallated to level 3 support. I am awaiting a debug version of
the plugin with additional logging for additional testing.

I can understand everyones frustration with this functionality as the
documentation is very poor. It was 2 weeks in coorespondance before I
finally got a good document from support to import the certificate.

We are persuing PCI compliance and ssl ldap authentication is a requirement
or so I'm told.

Does anyone have LDAP/SSL working on the following environment?

Connecting to: 2003 Active Directory - LDAP

ARS 6.3 Patch 22
Solaris 10
Oracle 10g

Thanks in advance.

Changing Window Title

2007-08-06 Thread Barber, Dave
All,

I'm needing to change the window title on a specific view of a form for
the mid-tier.

Its a ticketing application thats been opened up for other departments
usage, and instead of saying "IS Tickets", it needs to say "
Tickets". Within admin I've amended the HTML title tag to read
accordingly, but it isn't taking effect - its continually keeping the
form name.

Any suggestions?

This is on ARS 5.1.2, with 6.3 mid tier.

Regards

Dave

What do you mean by "European character set" ? A lot of European countries
have variations, for example French, German and Spanish all have some
(different) characters. Even countries that are close to each other, like
for example Denmark and Sweden, have slightly different character sets.

Greetings ARS Listers,

I've been asked to add two columns to the overview console and incident
management console. I was able to add the Site field to the overview and

incident management console after mapping it in ARDBC Fields and it
worked
without error. Now I'm trying to add the Requestor ID field and the
field only
populates when on the Incident Management form and not the Overview
Console. I
checked the permissions on the column and they are set exactly as the
Site
column. I know the ARDBC mapping is working since the requestor ID loads
in
incident management but I know I'm missing something - perhaps there is
an
additional Form GUID I need to map Requestor ID to (?).

Thanks in advance,

I think it would have to be a change made in the login.jsp to cause that

2007-08-06 Thread Axton
Has anyone experienced problems when using the ar_install script to
perform an install on solaris with 7.0.1 patch 3 where the executable
arserverd is unable to dynamically link to the oracle client?

The installer got pretty far along before this became an issue,
meaning that most of the installer was able to link against the
library:

The new user was issued a fixed license of the following type Write :
(1 of 14) (ARNOTE 31)
Start of Import: Mon Aug 6 10:12:37 EDT 2007
Waiting for the AR System Server to respond...
Setting the DSO User Password
Setting the Application Password
Setting the MidTier Password
Restarting the AR System Server: Mon Aug 6 10:12:53 EDT 2007
Action Request System beginning the restart process.
Action Request System shutdown in progress.
Action Request System shutdown process complete.
Action Request System initializing.
Starting AR System Server
 (ARNOTE 0)
AR Monitor version 7.0.01 patch 003 200705212328 started.
 (ARNOTE 0)
   AR Monitor started.
 (ARNOTE 0)
   ARMonitor child process (pid:24538) started.
./arserverd
ld.so.1: arserverd: fatal: libclntsh.so.10.1: open failed: No such
file or directory

The installer created all the Remedy data dictionary forms just fine,
started arserverd once, created the Demo account and issued a fixed
license, but during the restart, it failed. Somewhere along the way
the ar_install script lost track of the LD_LIBRARY_PATH set before
running ar_install.

Thanks,
Axton Grams

Hi Dave,

Under 6.3, I've had success doing this with a JavaScript similar to the
following:

top.document.title='foo';

It's been awhile since I've needed to do it, but I think the trick may have
been to have the Active Link fire On Load or On Display depending on how you
want to use it.

I've been trying that method this afternoon, either hardcoding like that

Was wondering if it was possible in CSS, but having had a browse, theres
no such functionality in CSS (hadn't really looked into CSS much before

Re: Solaris ARServer Installer - 7.0.1 patch 3 (U)

2007-08-06 Thread Axton
This is with Oracle Instant Client Package - Basic Lite 10.2.0.3 for
Solaris 32-bit.

The strange thing is that it connects the first time arserverd is
started during the install, but the subsequent startup of arserverd
does not know where the client is installed. Something in the
ar_install or arsystem script is unsetting or changing
LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

RPC: Unable to receive

2007-08-06 Thread Mike Chepaykin

Hello listers.

ARERR [8760] Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System Plug-In
server : bmcstage : RPC: Rpcbind failure - RPC: Unable to receive

This is what I got in RUT when I move my ARS server behind the firewall, uncheck
"Register with portmapper", assign static TCP port and shutdown remedy
portmapper service. And restart my windows box of course - a shut in a head 8).

This error appears only in Problem Management Console on window open. Other consoles - incident, asset, cmdb -
appear without any errors.

No errors in arerror, armonitor, arplugin logs and no errors on client side
logs too.

When I change environment back (no firewall restrictions at all) and move to
portmapper - everything is fine again.

Why (and which?) plugin try to register himself in portmapper? Or maybe the
cause is something else?

Database restore from Production server to Newly built Test Server

2007-08-06 Thread Mohan Panchangmath
Hi All,

We have built a new physical test AR Server with
exactly the same configuration as Production server
and the same type of OS and database .
We have the following suite of Remedy Products
installed in our new test environment which is also
exactly the same as our production environment.

AR Server version 7.0.00 Patch 002 200610161323.
The CMDB version is 1.1.0 patch 003.
The Asset management version is 6.0. patch 1413.
HelpDesk version 6.0
Database: Microsoft SQL-Server 2000

We want to restore the production database to this
newly built test server and need guidelines/process to
do a restore on the test server which currently just
has the data and the workflow objects from the fresh
application installation.

So can you please provide instructions with any
precautions (general aswell CMDB specific ) to do a
database restore from Production to newly built Test
server?

Re: Database restore from Production server to Newly built Test Server

2007-08-06 Thread Kaiser Norm E CIV USAF 96 CS/SCCE
Simple. The only complication is that you'll need to momentarily stop
the MS SQL service on the production server for a few minutes (which,
consequently, will cause Remedy to stop as well).

Once the service is stopped, go to the Data folder inside the MSSQL
folder. Copy the ARSystem MDF and LDF files onto some portable media.
If they're big files, you might have to burn them to CD.

Go to the test server and open Microsoft SQL Enterprise Manager, detach
the Remedy database. Rename the ARSystem.mdf and ARSystem.ldf files
something else.

Put the CD in the test server and copy the files from the CD to the same
exact location on the test server.

>From Enterprise Manager, attach the database. Restart the services.

You should be working now.

Hi Norm,

Thanks for the quick information.
We had been following the same method but on a non
CMDB environment and it worked great.

However I wanted to ensure if this process holds good
for restoring a DB with CMDB running. Do we have to
follow any other steps to restore the CMDB apart from
this normal db restore?

Thanks,

Re: Database restore from Production server to Newly built Test Server

2007-08-06 Thread Pierson, Shawn
I would also run a stored procedure to find and replace all occurrences
of the production servername once you make the move.

I found the stored procedure on this site to be helpful with that:
http://vyaskn.tripod.com/sql_server_search_and_replace.htm

Just be careful because if that server is in Asset Management or
referenced in tickets, you might overwrite it. I get around by using
FQDN's instead of the simple server name, so I can find and replace the
entire string only.

Subject: Database restore from Production server to Newly built Test
Server

We want to restore the production database to this
newly built test server and need guidelines/process to
do a restore on the test server which currently just
has the data and the workflow objects from the fresh application
installation.

So can you please provide instructions with any
precautions (general aswell CMDB specific ) to do a
database restore from Production to newly built Test
server?

Thanks,
Mohan

Sybase 207 error message

2007-08-06 Thread Will Carroll
We recently started getting the below error message. This error is
coming from our Custom Change Password form. We have removed the
related field from the form and re-created it with a different DB ID.
We checked all the workflow and changed the field names affected. We
have restarted our AR Server after making the change. The DB does not
show the column on the related table. However we are still getting the
error message. Has anybody seen this error and if so how did you get
rid of it...

What does the file the installer saves the environment settings in contain?

Try running the installer with debug on.

Re: RPC: Unable to receive

2007-08-06 Thread Tony Worthington
You probably need to review the BMC documents about plugins behind a VIP
or firewall without a portmapper. "Using a Hardware Load Balancer with
BMC Remedy Action Request System 7.0" page 9, and others that I can't find
at the moment.

Here's an example of some lines from one of our ar.conf's (this one from a
server group, but relevant since we don't use portmapper either)

Plugin-Port: 9000
Register-With-Portmapper: F
TCD-Specific-Port: 8639

You may not need the alias lines, but you certainly need the Plugin-Port.

RPC: Unable to receive

Hello listers.

ARERR [8760] Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System
Plug-In server : bmcstage : RPC: Rpcbind failure - RPC: Unable to receive

This is what I got in RUT when I move my ARS server behind the firewall,
uncheck "Register with portmapper", assign static TCP port and shutdown
remedy portmapper service. And restart my windows box of course - a shut
in a head 8).

This error appears only in Problem Management Console on window open.
Other consoles - incident, asset, cmdb -
appear without any errors.

No errors in arerror, armonitor, arplugin logs and no errors on client
side logs too.

When I change environment back (no firewall restrictions at all) and move
to portmapper - everything is fine again.

Why (and which?) plugin try to register himself in portmapper? Or maybe
the cause is something else?

apache to tomcat connector not working

I followed all the instructions on how to set up the JK connector to have
Apache passthrough to Tomcat, but when I try to access mid-tier, I get a 404
and the following is found in the mod_jk.log file:

[Mon Aug 06 14:25:57 2007] [5504:3656] [debug] jk_uri_worker_map.c (589):
Attempting to map URI '/arsys' from 0 maps

Mid-Tier works when I use port 8080, and the connector fails for non-midtier
webpages sitting in the Tomcat root folder as well, so the problem appears
to be connector-specific and independent of Remedy or Mid Tier.

Floating licenses being treated as read-only

2007-08-06 Thread Neel Guatam
Hello ARSlisters,

I have a strange problem. We upgraded our environment with server group.
One day after that, our Incident Management module opens up in read-only
mode. We checked the licenses, they haven't expired yet. As soon as
click on incident management module entry link from home page, we get
the following error:

No free application user floating write license tokens are available.

Currently accessing the application form in read-only mode.

License will upgrade when one is available. : BMC:Incident Mgmt (ARWARN

We are not sure if this is directly related to server group
configuration or not at this moment. Any help would be appreciated.

We're setting up 7.0.01 Patch 003 on a Win2k3 server. It looks like
it's under C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\AR System\Licenses on our
server. Really should be under C:\Program Files\Common Files\AR
System\Licenses though.

David,

We are running on AR Server 7.0.01 Patch 003 with ITSM Apps version
7.0.0. We are running Win 2k3 with SQL Server 2k5. Would you happen to
have the specifics of where this multi-license file would be? We could
give it a shot.

Neel,

What AR System version and platform?

We had a similar situation with 6.0.3 with a name change for the server.
The issue was tied to the multilicense file. We would have to shut down
the server, delete the file and restart. With a restart of the server,
the file is regenerated and our floating licenses would be valid again.

Thanks,

Re: Floating licenses being treated as read-only

2007-08-06 Thread strauss
Friday humor comes early this week. After successfully importing over
107,000 active CTM:People and User records into a Customer company on
one server this weekend from an EIE-fed table, I made the mistake of
opening the Companies and Organizations console (COM:Company) from the
ITSM 7 Application Administration Console and searching for the customer
company (I needed to check the valid Locations and Organizations against
another server. Apparently someone wrote an active link or process that
tries to refresh the People tablefield on opening COM:Company, no matter
what tab it opens to (Alias), without thinking about how many people
might be loaded on a production system; oops! It is still trying to do
just that...(Refreshing table up to administrator's limit). I am still
trying to figure out where in the on-open actions is one that I can turn
off to stop that. Cute.

Strange ITSM 7 Behavior

2007-08-06 Thread Ron Legters
Listers -
I'm configuring my sandbox installation of ITSM 7. I've just loaded in People,
and set one person up as Support. I haven't done anything with Categories or
Assignments, but the status box at the bottom of the 'Application
Administration Console' is telling me that configuration for this company is
complete. At least, that's what I think it's telling me, because it's in
French. I installed the French localization because we're going to be
supporting our sister company in Canada when this goes live, but the other
status messages have been in English.

Are either of these a bug, (telling me it's complete when it's not, and saying
so in French) or did I do something wrong?

Re: Strange ITSM 7 Behavior

2007-08-06 Thread Don McClure
Ron,
First observation: Your basic configuration is indeed complete in the
application's viewpoint. Limitations:
- only requires one location to be listed in ITSM--your company may need more
for your actual needs
- only requires one support group--again, YMMV
- only one support staffer is required.

Yes, basic configuration is very easy to satisfy. Sufficient to do meaningful
work? Maybe not. Your efforts
so far are probably just fine!

Check your $LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
Find the path libclntsh.so.10.1 under your $ORACLE_HOME directory.
Something like this should do it.

Anyhow ... find that path, and make sure it's the absolute first
thing in $LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

Has anyone experienced problems when using the ar_install script
to perform
an install on solaris with 7.0.1 patch 3 where the executable
arserverd is

unable to dynamically link to the oracle client?

The installer got pretty far along before this became an issue,
meaning that

most of the installer was able to link against the
library:

The new user was issued a fixed license of the following type

The installer created all the Remedy data dictionary forms just fine,
started arserverd once, created the Demo account and issued a
fixed license,
but during the restart, it failed. Somewhere along the way the
ar_install
script lost track of the LD_LIBRARY_PATH set before running
ar_install.

Re: Solaris ARServer Installer - 7.0.1 patch 3 (U)

2007-08-06 Thread Axton
It was set when I started the ar_install script. It was unset during
the installation process. The variable was unset between the time the
Demo user was created and the arserver restarted before importing the
base forms.

I worked around the issue by opening another terminal and starting
arserverd outside arplugind. Once it was started this way, the
installation completed. Just a bug somewhere in the ar_install
script.

Re: European character set issue

Swedish and Spanish. Earlier the dev OS did not have these language
packs, after installing them and matching the .profile and ar.conf
settings they are not showing up.

What do you mean by "European character set" ? A lot of European
countries have variations, for example French, German and Spanish all
have some (different) characters. Even countries that are close to each
other, like for example Denmark and Sweden, have slightly different
character sets.

Subject: European character set issue

**
Hi All,

I have a query related to European character set support. I have
checked the archives but it all got very confusing so I am asking it
once again.

The production environment supports European character set. I
ran this query SELECT value$ FROM sys.props$ WHERE name =
'NLS_CHARACTERSET' in the production and got the result as
WE8ISO8859P1. When I ran the same query in the dev environment I
got the same result but dev environment changes all the European
characters to "?".

There is no DB charset entry in ar.conf file.

AR Server : 7.0.1

Database:Oracle9i

What am I missing?

Regards

Ankur

Re: Attachement Updation

2007-08-06 Thread Kathy Morris
Is there a way to keep the users from modifying the attachments? We have a
similar issue. Our business requirement is that only the submitter can
modify his/her own attachment. No other user should be able to modify an
attachment or locking the attachment after the submission.
