Re: FW: Escalation Notify Action
Yes, I'd checked that fact and the notified users have write permission for that field. I've changed the Mechanism value to Alert and the Text value to $Detalle$. The result was that the alert showed well. Moreover, I've got a server escalation log and the text of the e-mail has all the fields translated with the correct values. I've never had this problem with Filters. Could this problem be an escalation bug? If you are trying this in the User or Group form, it will fail due to a unique ID that is generated by the system. Try using either the LIMIT or the TOP clause.. The usage of TOP if I am not mistaken is Select TOP n Column1, Column2,... from table_name order by Column[m] desc; since you want to order your output in a descending order on the column that you choose.. The use of limit is something like Select Column1, Column2 from table_name LIMIT 10 order by Column[m] desc; If this doesn't work try Select Column1, Column2 from table_name order by Column[m] desc LIMIT 10; Hope this helps.. Re: Inserting data in the T table directly from the database.
To be Frank, Why would you want to do this? In a secondary question, why did you purchase the Remedy ARS product, if you are going to perform SQL anyways? The ARS and its 4.5 GL interface is a very good and eliminate the need to perform manual SQL. I have yet to see a system which the ARS can not handle. Have you tried the ODBC interface? I see these types of posts all the time and I have to ask, If you want a low level SQL or API interface, why did you purchase BMC Remedy Action Request System? If built correctly, BMC Remedy ARS should save you in developer maintenance costs. On another note and to be helpful rather than critical, if you are going to update T Tables directly, you had better be very, very, very familiar with the Database Reference. User crashes on mshtml.dll
Fellow ARSListers I have been working with BMC Support about this issue, and have been able to get very far. Has anyone seen this error message before and found either a potential cause or fix for it. The users who are getting the below message are running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2. I have tried the Remedy User clients 7.0.1 Patch 4, 7.0.1 Patch 9, and 7.1 Patch 4. In each case, the problem returns. During each installation, I delete all remaining files and registry settings of the previous Remedy client. The client appears to be crashing mostly when the user has the Remedy client minimized and is working in other programs. Those other programs vary from Microsoft Word, MS Excel, and Internet Explorer. When he is using IE, the user is only going to news sites of major online papers (no fancy blogs, online applications, or sites with questionable security). The only consistency in this situation is the below error message we keep finding in the Event Viewer. The crash appears to happen at completely random intervals too, and I cannot find any action they are consistently taking to cause the crash. Faulting application aruser.exe, version 7.1.0.4, faulting module mshtml.dll, version 6.0.2900.3395, fault address 0x00120911. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Re: User crashes on mshtml.dll
I have one user where this problem happens most frequently, but others have also reported the problem to varying degrees. This issue started out with users reporting that their clients were crashing when they unlocked their workstations while they had the Change Management Console from ITSM 7 open. According to BMC Support, this was a known defect that was fixed in Patch 7 of the 7.0.1 Remedy User client. I went with Patch 9 on v7.0.1, and that appeared to resolve the issue for the majority of users. I have at least three users who are still having problems. I did more research with one of these users, and also found the crash also takes place when they are changing their Proxy settings in IE or open their Control Panel and look at their Network settings. The file named in the crash (mshtml.dll) keeps leading me to believe the source of the problem might be with a Data Visualization field. There is a DV field on the Change Management Console of ITSM 7 that references a Flashboard object. However, I cannot locate why a small group of users are experiencing these problems while the majority go about their days without any issue. The 112 field allows you to control who has access at the row level. So, if your 112 says PC Support only people that have the security group of PC Support can see the row. E.G. Req ID = 1112 = PC SupportShort = Problem with Monitor Req ID = 2112 = ApplicationShort = Problem with Payroll If user 1 is a member of PC Support they can see grab data about Req ID = 1 but not Req ID = 2. -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Chintan Shah Sent: Friday, September 19, 2008 9:51 AM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Active Link Fires--However Set fields is NULL for one user and not for other ** Yes, I do have a field 112 on base form and a field of 2 on base form($USER$). Re: ARWARN 9351 error
Hi, I am on MidTier 7.1 Patch 3. I am not sure but I was able to pinpoint the error to an incident. When I click and open the incident it gives out the similar error message. I am able to work fine with my user tool. Only unusual thing I can find with the incident created was that it had an unusually long description close to 1000 KB. I am wondering if its a timing issue with Mid Tier? Can you please help me with that? Re: Inserting data in the T table directly from the database.
My response is: Buy more RAM! I know the world just found this funny, but several studies have shown that the largest cost of any Computer System in the last 15 - 20 years has been people cost and not hardware cost. ARS being a high Generation Language (GL) should be easier to maintain than the low end GLs (like SQL, Cobol, C, assembler). I would rank these as: Machine Language - 1 GL (good for landing on the moon in 1969, but not very maintainable) - Assembler - 2 GL (Fast and more English like than Machine Language) - C - 2.5 GL (bridges the gap between Assembler and 3 GL) - Cobol, Fortran, PL-1, Pascal - 3 GL (more English like than 2 GL, but a little slower because of templated code (I'm not going to get into compiler theory)) - Adabase Natural Cognos Powerbuilder or Nomad - 4 GL (more English like than 3 GL, but the same problems as a 3 GL) - SQL - 4 GL (faster than ARS) - Remedy ARS - 4.5 GL (GUI on top of SQL and more) - 5 GL - Artificial Intelligence assist (I don't believe this exists yet, except at MIT or other experimental organizations) ARS could do this with trend\statistical analysis built in. More RAM! - 6+ GL - Data from Star Trek the Next Generation or Terminator (whichever way you think) Hardware is now inexpensive and to improve performance by doing things in SQL, will bite you at some point (any eTang people out there?). Maintenance and documentation should always be considered when undertaking a task. Being a 4.5 GL, ARS tends to self-document also. Sounds like SLM is not very mature yet? If you have to plug speed code into it, then I would be a little wary of it at this point in time. Please understand, that I don't disagree with Use what works best as the need dictates because sometimes it is out of our control and we have to adapt. But I don't think this should be the rule. You purchased Remedy ARS for a reason. Use it! The paradigm has to shift. Too often management will look at the task and don't look at the overall people cost. The Higher the GL the less costly the maintenance. This has been true since Grace Hopper first pulled the moth out of the Enniac at University of PA. Consultants love this paradigm because they will always come out over budget. Computer Science has fallen behind reality. Hardware costs are not the major cost anymore. Heck, there's still textbooks that say the Cocomo model is the best way to size a system. Try a LOC count on a Remedy System? Are there any Computer Scientists anymore or are they all Microsoft certified engineers? Oh and by the way, if you are connecting to the T-Table, you'd better update the H-Tables, B-Tables, etc. as well. If you don't consider this you will have a mess. That's enough for today, :) Gordon M. If built correctly, BMC Remedy ARS should save you in developer maintenance costs. Re: Active Link Fires--However Set fields is NULL for one user and not for other-ISSUE RESOLVED
Wow...that increases my knowledge. However, I resolved the issue. The whole process is something like this we got 2 systems: system X and system Y(Remedy) 1. user has id A on X system and id B on our Remedy System Y. 2. X submits a record on Y using id A. However, Y does not have a id A on User form record. As soon as created a new user record with ID B, Set fields started working for everybody!! Not sure if its related, but when I was using my ID before creating ID B, Set fields were working..still I think its a mystery for me as to what was happening there. Also, when some other folks were trying Active Link, it worked for them. So, its kind of an intermittent issue. Thanks everyone for all help. Re: Server Group Licensing
That is good for older versions.. In 6.3 they changed it around a bit... You only need AR Server licenses for all the servers, and Fixed and floating licenses including application licenses purchased for just one server. You can download the AR Server licenses purchased for individual servers directly using the online licensing interface.. You can also download all host id independent licenses (AR Fixed licenses basically) using the online interface. HOWEVER, do not download licenses depending on the hostid from the licensing interface for any of the servers.. Contact Remedy Support and let them know you want your AR Floating User licenses and your application licenses for use for servers behind a server group. Remedy Support will match the licenses you have purchased for that one single server for the rest of the servers for no additional cost to you, by taking the Server Group name, and adding a tag that you put in the License Information field that looks something like SERVERGROUP=CAYOTE assuming cayote was the name you chose for the server group. Contact a license support representative - and in case you get someone who isn't aware of this scheme, some of them aren't aware of it, insist you want to talk to someone else.. That has happened to me once even after I had used that scheme at one site - I was told by the support rep that I need to buy licenses for the other server - so I asked for a senior representative and got the licenses I wanted.. I'll be surprised if they have changed that policy as they said that this is a new licensing scheme and server groups henceforth would be licensed according to that... Hope this helps.. You do not loose the use of the license.. thats yours forever to use.. What you loose is maintenance which means if with the newer version if the license structure is changed like it did between 7.0 to 7.1, you wont able to upgrade to that new version as they are not liable to ship you the new version of those licenses.. Obviously you loose the ability to raise support calls for that particular product you discontinue too pay support for.. Now I thought when you buy a software license you own the license and can not be forced to pay maintenance for it. BMC is saying that I must pay maintenance for every one of their products that we have installed. This sounds very wrong to me. I understand we are not entitled to any support but we own the license and should be able to use the product. Right now our support maintenance has lapsed while I try to resolve this issue. Preferences not getting saved
Hi Group, I have a question regarding remedy Mid-Tier 7.1 patch 3. When I am in the assignment work area (be it Overview console of the individual Incident Management Change Management Consoles), I am going to the preferences button, select set refresh interval rate, set the time to 1 min and saving it. But whenever I switch views or re-login the settings are lost. One more account of mine which has the AR Server administrator permission is able to retain the settings. This seems weird because the user community is complaining that they are not able to save the preferences and I definitely cannot give them the administrator permission. Can you tell me why this is happening and how to rectify it? I know this seems to be a dumb question but all the same can anyone help me. I need to invoke it in a filter only as on the client side it wont work for my requirements. Basically, what I am looking for is to invoke a URL with couple of parameters from Remedy itself. Currently, we invoke a perl script from Remedy using Run Process and then Perl HTTP Lite invokes the URL. Are you on the patch downloads or the product download? Chances are it may not be found in the patches.. Re: HTTP call from Run Process
You could look into wget and curl. Both of these can be used to launch a URL you build as a string inside remedy, and then pass as an argument. It's sorta the same as running your perl script except that you can create the URL in a filter. Wget is the older and clunkier of the two, but you can redirect whatever comes back from your URL into a file and then do other interesting things with that file. You could, for example, launch the url with wget, save the web pages that comes back in a file with a .html suffix and then attach that file to an attachment field as proof that your URL did whatever it does I am pretty sure curl has a windows version, not sure about wget and not in a position to check now Hope this helps, Doug ..
