Now that 7.5 is out, does that mean 6.3 is no longer supported since BMC only

Or is 7.1 a minor version, 6.3 is still supported, and 6.0 is no longer

Jennifer,

I'm glad you like it! I had a few extra hours to revamp it (upgraded the
software and applied a template I've been working on), so I took the chance
and did it. I also added some files to the download section (the 2007
presentations). I have not had a chance to go in and clean up their names
and descriptions, but that will come with time, I'm sure.

Take care and stop by any time! (There's even a feed to the ARSList in the

Remedy User Suddenly Crashing for Multiple Users

2009-01-26 Thread Sokol, Brian
On Friday afternoon around 4PM I received emails/phone calls from about
a dozen users in several locations who were all experiencing the same
problem. Their fat client was crashing when they tried to run a search
in the Help Desk (version 5.6) form against a person's name. The error
is BMC Remedy User Application has encountered a problem and needs to
close. Not everyone is getting the error and it does not happen every
time but almost every time they search for a name. At first I thought it
might have been some sort of network issue but now I am not sure. It
just is strange that this started at the same time. The server itself
was not touched - no changes. We are on version 7.1 patch 1 running on
XP desktops and Server 2003/Sql 2000. I had people uninstall their
client, reboot and install User 7.1 patch 5 and they seem to be ok.
Anyone have any idea what could have caused this to suddenly happen?

Re: Which versions are still supported?

2009-01-26 Thread Easter, David
Roger is correct.

However, just to clarify: BMC supports the current version and two versions
back (not three) - and those versions can be either major or minor. The
support policy can be found here:

http://www.bmc.com/info_center_support/overview/0,,19097_4736154_40737596,00.html

and explains the numbering methodology at BMC. Specifically:

BMC Software uses a three-place numbering scheme to designate released
versions of software. The format is VV.RR.MM, where V indicates the version, R
indicates the release level, and MM indicates the maintenance level.

For example, AR System 7.5.00 is a minor release. AR System 7.0.00 was a major
release, but was replaced with a maintenance release and became 7.0.01.

Right now, the current version (C) of AR System is 7.5.00. The previous
version (C-1) is 7.1.00. And the version two back (C-2) - and thus on limited
support - is AR System 7.0.01. AR System 6.3 would be the C-3 release and thus
unsupported.

Hi Rick,

I tried that and the last thing that fires is this:
ACTL Checking SCHN-HPD-RtnLastName*-B (0)
ACTL - Passed qualification -- perform if actions
ACTL 0: Set Fields

WFLG /* Mon Jan 26 2009 11:16:03 */

It crashes when it tries to run the Set Fields action. This workflow has
not been modified in over 6 months. I also looked at the filter and sql
logs and did not see anything. Thinking about this if it was workflow
related then reinstalling a newer client would not fix this problem. I
am stumped. I checked the server and did not see anything in the event
logs on the server.

Now that 7.5 is out, does that mean 6.3 is no longer supported since BMC

7.5, 7.1, and 7.0?

Or is 7.1 a minor version, 6.3 is still supported, and 6.0 is no longer
supported?

Anyone have any idea what could have caused this to suddenly happen?

Re: My Entitled Products problem

2009-01-26 Thread Wheeler, Dylan
I didn't want to save this for more Friday humor this week. I got
another response to this from support and here is a short outtake from
it.

---

In our new EPD search tool, I got the below information associated
with your company name.

XX FASTTRACK 2009-12-30 BMC Remedy IT Service Management Suite

Unfortunately, I don't find BMC Remedy AR System Server listed as your
company owned products, I am afraid it is the cause that you are not
able to download it. For now you can click the request trial button
to get a trial version for BMC Remedy AR System Server, or maybe
contact our Sales Representative for trial version.

--

For the record, we just moved back to BMC for support and bought the
new ITSM licensing schema. I guess according to support, when you buy
the ITSM suite, you get Asset, Change, Incident, Problem, etc, but you
don't get ARS? hah

I now have a headache and a dent in my desk.

Dylan

Quoting Pierson, Shawn shawn.pier...@sug.com:

I see all three versions of everything logged in on mine. I think
what David is pointing at is that in some cases there are multiple
support ids, and that if you don't have the right one that your
support contract is tied to, you may not be able to download them.
That still doesn't explain why you can see ARS 7.1, but I've seen
situations like that before. Once BMC created a separate support id
for us to download a demo of something, and my coworker at the time
made that his primary support id on his profile. That caused some
issues, and it could be similar to what you are running into.

I'm not saying this is the case, but you may want to double check
your support ids at least to eliminate that as a factor.

Hi David

I understand that it is supposed to show the products per support id.
Is that limited to versions as well?

I see ITSM in there, but it will only allow me to download 7.1.0
Normal hiccups for a new process, understandable. Just kind of
dumbfounded by the response I got when I reported the problem.

The spaceman comment was me being amused that a BMC support person
would tell me that ARS 7.0.01 does not exist.
Maybe it was removed from EPD and it is now being stored in Area 51 :)

Just FYI, my understanding is that your Entitled Products list is linked

your AR System purchase.

Re: Remedy User Suddenly Crashing for Multiple Users

2009-01-26 Thread Scott Illari
Brian,

I remember a problem a few years back when the 5.6 User tool would crash if
the record being returned had a corrupted attachment in it. We got around
it by upgrading the User Tool to the newer version (at the time I think it
was 6.x), loading the corrupted record, and deleting the attachment. Since
you have already upgraded the User Tool on some and they are fine, I would
have someone with the newly installed version bring up Murphy and see if
there is an attachment on the record. If there is, then save the attachment
locally, and have one of the affected users try to open the same record and
see if the problem is resolved.

Hope this helps.

My information comes from security officials that I spoke with directly
within the Pentagon and National Security Agency. Based on their
policies, someone who presently does not have security clearance cannot
be cleared if they are currently married to a foreign national.
However, an already cleared individual is allowed to marry a foreign
national, provided that individual does not spawn any red flags during
the security review.

This was around 2003 to 2004 so I am not clear on whether this policy
was in place or heavily enforced before 9/11. However, the fact I was
(and still am) married to a Greek national shut down my interview faster
than I could say my own name.

this does not work because I set the filter to $OPERATION$ != SET and the get

Your qualification should read $OPERATION$ = QUERY...GET is not a
valid value for the $OPERATION$ keyword. There are a list of valid values
in the help section of your admin tool under the Keywords Section.

Hope this helps.

(($OPERATION$ = SET) AND (some other condition))

The $OPERATION$ = GET fails for unknown reasons on a get execution, I know
this does not work because I set the filter to $OPERATION$ != SET and the

Re: Which versions are still supported?

2009-01-26 Thread Easter, David
The same policy applies to ITSM. The current version of ITSM is ITSM
7.5.00. C-1 for ITSM is 7.0.03 and C-2 for ITSM (Limited Support) is
ITSM 6.0.

You can see supported versions at the compatibility matrix page here:

http://www.bmc.com/support/bmcremedycomp/index.htm

Note that there is discussion around extending support for ITSM 5.6, so
it currently appears on that page as well. As noted in the support
policy, individual products can choose to extend support if necessary
beyond C-2. I believe the language of that extension is still being
discussed internally, but hopefully an official statement will be made
soon to clarify the position.

Roger is correct.

However, just to clarify: BMC supports the current version and two
versions back (not three) - and those versions can be either major or
minor. The support policy can be found here:

http://www.bmc.com/info_center_support/overview/0,,19097_4736154_4073759
6,00.html

and explains the numbering methodology at BMC. Specifically:

BMC Software uses a three-place numbering scheme to designate released
versions of software. The format is VV.RR.MM, where V indicates the
version, R indicates the release level, and MM indicates the maintenance
level.

For example, AR System 7.5.00 is a minor release. AR System 7.0.00 was
a major release, but was replaced with a maintenance release and became
7.0.01.

Right now, the current version (C) of AR System is 7.5.00. The previous
version (C-1) is 7.1.00. And the version two back (C-2) - and thus on
limited support - is AR System 7.0.01. AR System 6.3 would be the C-3
release and thus unsupported.

Now that 7.5 is out, does that mean 6.3 is no longer supported since BMC

Or is 7.1 a minor version, 6.3 is still supported, and 6.0 is no longer

I remember a problem a few years back when the 5.6 User tool would crash
if the record being returned had a corrupted attachment in it. We got
around it by upgrading the User Tool to the newer version (at the time I
think it was 6.x), loading the corrupted record, and deleting the

they are fine, I would have someone with the newly installed version

there is, then save the attachment locally, and have one of the affected

Are you searching directly in the form for data or is this some kind of
lookup/workflow?

If you are searching for record in something like Help Desk, Change, etc
maybe it isn't the last name Murphy but the first record that comes up when
that query is run. Maybe try a search using the Records ID for the first
record that is returned using the Murphy query. I too have seen some
corruption in a record consistently crash a the client.

Using a single username/password to access form from multiple hosts

2009-01-26 Thread Ravi
Hi: I am making a form available via web (mid tier with Remedy) for a
large set of users who donot exist in remedy. These users just provide
new requests and check status of the requests. They donot need to update
any requests. I donot want to create/manage these users since they keep
changing. I was hoping to use one single user name/password and provide
the link the users can point their browser to. But it looks like Remedy
does not allow connection from different hosts with the same
username/password at any given time. Is there any way I can configure
access to a remedy form using a single username/password from multiple
hosts?

2009-01-26 Thread patchsk
You can create a user account and assign read restrict user license to
it.
Remedy allows a read restrict user to login from a number of clients
in parallel at a time.
Since you need this from web, you can pass this readrestrict user name
and password to the midtier servlet using the form url.
A read restrict user can submit and view tickets with out any fixed or
floating license.
I guess you can not have submitter mode locked if you want to use read
restrict user like this.
