slmbrsvc.exe on AR Monitor

2009-04-14 Thread Rob Cvetkovski
Hello,

I had an issue where filters in the data source form were not being built
due to a missing SLM line in the armonitor.exe file in ITSM 7.1. I have
added the appropriate line and ran it from the command prompt which brings
the slmbrsvc.exe process in the Task Manager.

However, once I kill the command prompt, the slmbrsvc.exe process dies. I
know there was a way to restart the process without restarting the AR
services as its a prod environment and i'm unable to restart.

Can anyone tell me how this is possible.

Thank you

Revisiting - RE: Reports won't run in the WUT

2009-04-14 Thread William Rentfrow
So this problem continues. I don't think BMC support believed me until
I showed them.

Here are the things I know to be true...

1.) Upgrading to WUT 7.1 patch 006 had no effect.
2.) Reports saved from the REPORT form to the /Home/Arcmds folder and
run do run (doing a search and then selecting tools/reports and the
Crystal Report stored in the folder)
3.) The same report will run in Crystal
4.) The report will NOT run if you go to the IM Console Reports
Select a report
5.) The server information under the Tools/Options is all correct.
6.) Reports will not run on our Dev, QA, Training, or Prod server this
way when accessed in the method described in #4 above.
7.) Reports do not work in the method for #4 for any user

All in all it seems like it's client and/or workstation based. When you
press the Run Report button the cursor goes to an hourglass for 5
seconds or so and then goes back to normal. Nothing else happens. No
errors noted anywhere.

We have our remedy connection set to go to a specific port. If the TCP
port is not set in their options then that would cause this issue.

The other thing to check is in the Report form for that particular

We - until recently - were able to run reports from the WUT. For
example, the IM base product reports include a report called Incident
Details by date range. I just want to run it for the last week which is
a minor amount of data.

When I select the report + criteria (with a destination of to screen)
the cursor goes to an hourglass and just flickers back to a regular
cursor a few seconds later. Nothing else happens.

Workflow logging does not give an indication of a problem.

I've deleted all local cache and re-installed the WUT.

I've check the server for obvious things including;

-Messages in the arerror.log

-Unix system checks (e.g., disk space - reports can fail if /var is
full)

-Every other log/setting I can think of.

When I pull the report file out of the REPORT form and try it in Crystal
Reports against the same server it runs just fine.

Something is very amiss - this all worked last week

Business Hours within ITSM 7.0.3, ARS 7.1

2009-04-14 Thread Chowdhury, Tauf
All,

Can someone provide some more detailed info or any best practices for
configuring Business Hours and times for ITSM? Is there a global setting
for Business Time?

In the Config Guide, it states that the Business Hours must be set for
each individual support group.

Also,

Once the time is configured, how does this affect the Effort Logging
within a record, whether it be Incident/Change/Problem? Does the effort
clock exclude the time after hours? If the support user enters time
after 'normal' business hours, does the system see that as allowable?

Thanks!

I have, and it wasn't pretty..I don't remember all of the details because
the human brain tends to block traumatic events, thankfully. The parts I do
remember are that it slowed our development to a crawl because of all of the

this out' listed, merging of branch data in CC was horrific, the constant
need to sync my local view with the server to ensure I knew about proper
checkouts and checkins was a ROYAL pain...and that's just the stuff I can

Re: Has anyone used ClearCase SCM tool with Remedy

2009-04-14 Thread Carey Matthew Black
Adrian,

I used (or rather tried to use) it with ARS v5.x.

I went as far as getting a conference call with a Clear Case second
level engineer and a second level Remedy (at the time) engineer to try
to figure out what was going on. At the end of the calls (it took
three, one hour meetings, if memory serves) it was determined that the
way Clear Case implemented the Microsoft Source Control API was very,
very lacking in functionality. (and maybe even compliant with the spec
too! ) We also determined that the way Remedy's Admin Tool was
exporting files was not helping matters any at all. (Mostly due to
name space collisions between types of objects and where/how the files
were named after export.)

Long story short... it was such a pain that it was a very negative
experience with both products.

FWIW:
I hear some very good things about features that are now available
in ARS v7.5. (And more to come in future versions too.)

If v7.5 is to far off in the the future for you, then I would suggest
you look at using the ARS API to get the job done. (A custom
integration should be very possible.)

Re: Revisiting - RE: Reports won't run in the WUT

2009-04-14 Thread Jason Miller
This sounds like some weirdness we encountered two weeks ago. A user was
receiving the following error when trying to export to a csv with an AR
report template: Error occurred in generating report. ARERR [553]
Operation requested is too large for a single SQL command.

It was repeatable on different machines with 7.0.1 no patch and 7.1 patch
6. We found that selecting all of the records, selecting the report
template and exporting will results in this error. If we deselected all of
the records, select the report template and then export this error does not
happen. Since we found a work around we didn't run a SQL trace log on the
DB server to see what the differences were in the way the SQL statement is
issued depending on selecting the records or not.

Make sure the odbc driver server is configured – it’s been giving us
trouble lately, especially on Vista machines.

Is the Report Server and TCP set correctly in Tools - Options - Advanced
 - Report Server?

We have our remedy connection set to go to a specific port. If the TCP
port is not set in their options then that would cause this issue.

The other thing to check is in the Report form for that particular
report is the Server set the correct server and is the Form Name correctly
set? (based on what table the Crystal Report is pointing to)

This was a great guess. Unfortunately that is not the issue. I've tried
it several ways (including the way it was when it worked) and it's still
 broken.

I have seen this happen when the user does *not* have a Report Server
defined in their profile. I'm not sure what triggers this, but putting a
server name there as gotten rid of this error.

Tools -- Options -- Advanced -- Report Server

I'd like to know what your solution is, if this is not your issue.

UPDATE: ARS 7.5 Remedy Host ID changes after reboot

2009-04-14 Thread Jason Miller
Here is an update regarding this issue. Support recommended using the MAC
address as the Host ID when requesting the licenses. The license key was
applied successfully and we have not see this issue since (about 1/2 dozen
reboots).

I had took some time off and haven't had a chance to talk to support
regarding their findings but they were able to reproduce it in their
environment. I have heard from source outside of BMC that we are not the
only people to experience this issue.

 Thanks for the links!

I did an ipconfig /all and verified that the MAC is not changing after
 rebooting.

The document from the first URL you sent indicates that the that the OUI
prefix for an ESX server would always be 00:0C:29 for automatically
generated MAC addresses and 00:50:56 for manually assigned MAC addresses.
The server's MAC begins with 00:50:56 which is consistent for a manually
assigned MAC and does not match any of the Host IDs that we have seen.

I'll submit a issue with BMC in the morning if the Network team can't track
 back these Host IDs.

 Thanks,
 Jason

Has anybody experienced the ARS Host ID changing each time the server is
rebooted. This behavior is happens with 7.5 FCS and patch 1. It is a new
Windows 2008 server on VMware ESX. I checked with our server team and they
said that there is no way that the application should be able to see
anything other than the MAC address that VMware assigns the server, which
 doesn’t change after a reboot.

Here are examples of the Host IDs that I have seen in the last few
days. The interesting thing is that only the first 4 characters change
 each
 time.
 30F620524153
 3A7B20524153
 AAF920524153
 7C5720524153
Does anybody know if the Host ID for 7.5 is composed of something other
 than the MAC address?

Getting ERROR: server name 390620 : Failure while trying to run the filter/escalation process (ARERR 24) : No error : PERFORM-ACTION-REFRESH-TABLE

2009-04-14 Thread Mark Lev
Hello,

We are consistently seeing this error in the Windows App event log.

VM enviornment (1 each; MT; ARS; DB)
Windows Server
ARS 7.1
ITSM 7.0.3
SQL Server

4/10/2009 5:22:35 PM AR System Monitor Error None 0 N/A server name
390620 : Failure while trying to run the filter/escalation process
(ARERR 24) : No error : PERFORM-ACTION-REFRESH-TABLE

That appears to be all that we get. It will occur approx 8 times in a
grouping, with no time pattern or anything else obvious as to what is
causing this.

Has anyone seen this before, and/or can help point me in the right
directioin? I find it interesting that Windows calls it an error, and
Description says No error.

The ARERR 24 message indicates a problem in a Filter or Escalation, but
I have no clue as to how to locate it.
What I found in documents and searches...

ARERR 24Failure while trying to run the filter/escalation process
An error occurred while the AR System was executing a filter or
escalation that runs a process. There is an associated message detailing
the reason the process could not be executed. Check the definition to
verify that the process definition is correct.
If not, correct the process definition in the filter or escalation.

How do I identify what Filter/Escalation? The associated message is not
helping me.

The 390620 looks like a RPC number, but no idea where this fits in, if
not just a coincidence.

390620 through 390634 (fast daemon),

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

Re: Getting ERROR: server name 390620 : Failure while trying to run the filter/escalation process (ARERR 24) : No error : PERFORM-ACTION-REFRESH-TABLE

2009-04-14 Thread Leonard Neely - FOJ
That's interesting, since I don't believe that there is a
PERFORM-ACTION-REFRESH-TABLE command. There is a
PERFORM-ACTION-TABLE-REFRESH command, but it is for AL's only. My guess
is that in some filter/escalation, you have a Run Process action that
issues this command, and thus generates the error. I would suggest
exporting your filters and/or escalations to a .def file, then search for
reference to that command. That should at least narrow it down to the
filter that is making the call.
