No, there is no version of ARS for Linux/Sybase. Your options are Oracle or DB2 on Linux. yes I know. Actually I even already asked the question on this forum some months ago. I was just hoping things have evolved since then. Thanks anyway. Re: Midtier login.jsp - caching...
We have set in place a default.htm that acts as a redirect to the login page then deliver all of our links with the DNS server name as the address. If we have maintenance its is simple to just change the htm to a display a maintenance message instead of redirecting. Of course if users have the login page saved as a favorite or something similar that bypasses the default call then this solution will not work. -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arsl...@arslist.org] On Behalf Of Frank Caruso Sent: Tuesday, November 03, 2009 11:04 PM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Midtier login.jsp - caching... 1. This is one reason I front all of our Tomcat servers with Apache+mod_jk. Adding a forced redirect or URL rewriting is trivial, and requires no changes to Tomcat or html files. You need to register, but the registration is indeed free. I admit that there's a slightly misleading statement about a trial version on our website. This doesn't apply anymore and will be changed soon. At some point in the future we might release a commercial version provinding extended functionality, but the version offered for download now is, and will stay, free. Integrating custom form into Overview Console (ITSM 7.x)
Hi Listers! I am trying to integrate some customers form in the Overview Console (ITSM 7.5), but there seems to be something wrong. What I did is this: - added 1 entry to SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsoleTemplate (used the form name of the customers form and a GUID called COMOBJECT. I entered only these two fields and left the rest on default) - added 13 entries to SHR:ARDBCFields using the new Form GUID COMOBJECT and used Field IDs from customers form to map it with Field IDs from the vendor form (SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsole). No fields had to be added to the vendor form. I only took existing standard fields - added three entries to SHR:ARDBCEnumLookup to map the status values of the customer form (field ID 7) to the status values of the vendor form (Consolidated Status) - restarted arplugin process When I try to open the Overview Console I get an error: ARERR [552] Error:ARGetListEntryWithFields - Failure during SQL Operation to the database and the console remains empty. Strangely enough I can see the entries for my COMOBJECT within the SHR:ARDBC_OverviewConsole form when I access it directly. So the plugin is working and is collecting the data correctly. I tried to troubleshoot/workaround this by making the external qualification (z1D_ExternalQualString) visible on SHR:OverviewConsole. It contains a long statement asking for different types of requests (MAINHELPDESK, TMSTASK, ...) with their status and assigned users. But I can not find some COMOBJECT in there out of the box. So do I have to edit some of the workflow as well which is building this enormous external qualification? When I am editing the external qualification manually by hand (because the field is now visible) I am getting my request from the customers form displayed in the overview console. But why is the original qualification not working anymore. Any help is really appreciated! Thanks! Re: Midtier login.jsp - caching...
Putting all the servers in Administrator Only mode will keep all non-Administrators out of the system while you perform your upgrade. Changing the login page will only keep new people from logging in; it will not stop existing users from continuing to use the system. If you really want everyone out, I would recommend a combination of Administrator Only mode and an updated login page indicating that the system is down for maintenance. That will stop existing users as well as notify people coming back to the login page that you are down for maintenance. Otherwise, deleing the .java and .class file for the login page so that the system regenerates it seems entirely appropriately and not too heavy handed. Basically, that simply tells the system that it needs to recompile it. Looooooooooong update times on ARSCHEMA
Listers... I was helping a person who contacted me look at a performance problem. I do not have access to the system. It appears the update to ARSCHEMA that is called by the CE API call is taking forever for just ONE record. In other words when this executes: UPDATE arschema SET nextId = nextId + 1 WHERE schemaId = xxx ...it works fine for all but 1 row. Most rows complete in 0.01 seconds or less. The troublesome row update can take 90 seconds or more. I've never seen that. Has anyone else? I thinking rebuilding the indexes on that table is the first thing to try. On Wed, Nov 4, 2009 at 3:11 AM, Shyam Attavar atta...@sbcglobal.net wrote: ** Dear Listers, We have a need to put a dummy JSP for our users during our maintenance window, so that they are not logging into the server accidentally when we are still in the process of making changes to the system. For this we are planning to temporarily change the actual login.jsp to a dummy page indicating the Maintenance Window message. However, just by swapping login.jsp does not necessarily take effect immediately, until some significant time (in our case 60 minutes) has elapsed from the time the page was changed to the next time the page was accessed (by anyone). If someone logs in before that threshold has occurred, we have to wait an additional 60 minutes. We can certainly force the update by deleting two files login_jsp.java and login_jsp.class in the folder tomcat_install_dir/work/Catalina/localhost/arsys/org/apache/jsp/shared and then swapping the actual login.jsp with the dummy login.jsp. The next time the login.jsp page is accessed, the two deleted files are automatically recreated and after that users get the intended message. Although, this can probably work for the interim, we are hoping to have a long term solution that is less intrusive. That arises a couple of questions and if someone can shed some light on these, I would really appreciate it. 1) Why is it that, updating login.jsp does not take effect immediately and what needs to be done for this to take effect immediately? 2) Looks like there is some sort of timeout threshold some where and I am not sure what or where this is. Anyone know what to change and where to set this threshold to a small number, so that updates to login.jsp take effect immediately? We are using AR System 7.1.00 Patch 6 on Linux platform with Oracle 10g R3 in the backend. AW: Looooooooooong update times on ARSCHEMA
William, this looks like a locking issue. Perhaps some other threads has also updated this row but hasn't commited yet. There is a parameter you can set in ar.conf Next-ID-Commit: T When the system generates the next ID number for a record in the database, it performs a new commit transaction if this parameter is set to T (true). If the parameter is set to F (false), the transaction to generate the next ID is included as part of the create entry transaction. Set the value to T to increase efficiency and for debugging. The default is F. This option does not work with Informix databases. They should have the DBA check for any blocking in the db. Also have them check to see if there is any triggers or calls to an outside system that fire on create to this form. I remember a case where a company had a db trigger on insert to the H table of a form (so they could push data to a different system in real-time). It turned out that the outside system had problems and it was causing Remedy to be slow. The Remedy logs showed the same slowness in the ARSCHEMA update. Re: Looooooooooong update times on ARSCHEMA
I ran into a situation like this where that one form was the Distributed Pending form. We had a situation where there were three application servers initiating between 750k and 850k DSO transactions a day. During peak times, the UPDATE ARSCHEMA SET nextId = nextId + 1 WHERE schemaId = Distributed Pending SchemaID was causing significant lock contention at the database level. We ended up setting the Next-ID-Block-Size parameter to 25 and used a Push Fields action to create a record in a form entitled APP_DistributedPendingTransactions. We have four separate escalation threads running against the APP_DistributedPendingTransactions form and pushing data into the Distributed Pending form. We had to take this route because the 'Next-ID-Block-Size' parameter works for every form EXCEPT Distributed Pending. The response from BMC support was less than encouraging. They asked us why we needed to DSO so many records and it was recommended that we try an alternate replication technology. We're still using DSO because our work-around performs exceptionally. If your mystery form is NOT Distributed Pending, then I'd try setting the Next-ID-Block-Size parameter. Derek On Nov 4, 2009, at 1:39 PM, William Rentfrow wrote: ** Listers... It works with every 7.x version. But the perl interpreter we offer for download has an ARSperl module compiled against 7.5, so you need the 7.5 DLLs to run it. It should then nevertheless be possible to use it with a 7.0 or 7.1 server, which for 7.1 I can comfirm definitely. If you run into problems with 7.0 or 7.1, let me know. In this case, I can provide you with an ARSperl module specifically compiled for that version. The absolutely lowest server version it works with is 6.3 patch 16. But in this case you'd need a slightly different installation DEF file as well. The user tool must be at least of version 7.0. Re: installation problem of ARSystem 7.5
Hi Two things, number one if you get no further why not try a silent install instead, although you will have to get it working for the CMDB installer as there is no silent install option. What are you using to access the server? We used putty to access the server then tested by running either xclock or xterm just to check we were running okay before trying the installer. One issue I did find with the installer not running correctly was to do with the LC_LANG or one of those variables I don't have the details quite to hand at the moment. We had set it to UTF8, but the installer did not work, when we changed it and set it to just C the installer worked properly. I'll see if I can find the right details and send them on if I can.
