You generally don't want to delete the records. Consider archiving them
instead.

For Web services you have to use the XML format of a date/time

>From http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema-2/#dateTime

XML defines dateTime as a finite-length sequences of characters of the

   form: '-' mm '-' dd 'T' hh ':' mm ':' ss ('.' s+)? (zz)?

i.e. 2010-06-04T14:40:15.000-05:00
A Date Only field would use the date portion, a Time Only field would use the

Some possible things to look into that might help:

* Is the locale of the machine calling the web service different than
the locale setting of the mit tier or web services server?

* Is the locale of the mid-tier/web services server the same as the AR
server (if running on different servers?

* Does the user that is authenticating to make the web service call
have a locale specified for them? If so, is that locale the same as the
machine the web service is being called from?

* With all that in mind, can you verify that the code calling the web
service is formatting the date string according to the expected format for the
given locale(s)?

Good luck,
Lyle

Working with my WebLogic guyapparently in the deploy there is an option
of 'staging' which makes a copy of the deploy dir and that's where Mid-Tier
runs from. There is an option of 'no staging' which tells it to run from

I remember the issue now - Midtier writes the configuration locally, to the
WEB-INF directory, and WL redeploys the WL at every given opportunity, so
any configuration is lost as soon as WL restarts.

What BMC really need to do is allow the config file to be located on the
classpath - it's a two minute change to the MT source code.

Re: Database Deadlocks

2010-06-04 Thread Lyle Taylor
You need to have your servers configured as part of a server group in order to
run more than one server against the same database. It sounds like that may
not be correctly configured on your servers. Also make sure they both have
Development Cache Mode turned off. I've see that causes issues that would
cause server B in the server group to think that server A was down causing both
of them to think that they own certain things like escalations, etc.

The following message is being logged in the arerror log:

Thu Jun 3 17:31:06 2010 390603 : Deadlock during SQL operation to the
database (ARERR 566)

We have two ar servers. Noticed yesterday that escalations were running on
both (even though the configuration form showed that escalations should have
been disabled as well as the ar.conf). About 90 minutes after correcting that,
we found another deadlock message in the arerror log.

The oracle dump shows the deadlock to be on the T1605
(slm_slacompliancehistory) table. Users typically see ARERR 92 Timeout during
database update when saving incidents.

Server Version:7.1.00 Patch 008 200911120530
Operating System: SunOS 5.10

Has anyone ever seen anything like this or make any recommendations?

urgent Reporting question

Using vs. 7.5
I would like to pull a report that shows all incidents which were assigned
to a specific group, where the assignee has the member role of “Associate
member”
I believe I will have to either create a join form, or link 2 forms (if
using Crystal to create the report).

Anybody have any idea which forms to join to get this report and on what
field I would have to link them?

I have tried multiple ones and my data is off. Thank you!

2010-06-04 Thread Gramlich, Jeff
Hi Carin
Yes running ARS 6.3 w/RKM 7.2 patch 3.
I had to set authentication to Remedy in the KMS_config.xml, and which worked
till I updated RKM 7.2 to Patch 3. Then I had to add a character field
'Groups' in the KMS:Session form (The Custom HD integration def file supplied
was missing this which was fine till I upgraded to RKM 7.2 patch 3)and
modifying the workflow in ACTL KMS:InitKMS to pass those values to RKM. Lyle
sounds on track. However we are not running OOB, so for us configuration was
needed. Support might be your best bet.

Thanks

Re: All about Mid-tier

2010-06-04 Thread LJ LongWing
Naveen,
Any AL action that interacts directly with the client (DDE, RunMacro, etc)
won't work in the web, but all others do with very little issues. In fact, in
later versions (7.5->) there are things that only work in the web and not
native. I agree that you will need lots of testing, but I believe you will
find that the web works very well for most situations.

Subject: All about Mid-tier

Hi ARS’ers

I have an environment where an ARS custom app has been built. The current
version of ARS used is 7.0.001. This app has gone through migration through
multiple version ARS starting version 5.1. Although it was never intended to
have a thin-client view, we have thought of going with a mid-tier.
Now I have some questions:

1. So after this being installed, I would like to know very much on what
level the custom app (By custom app I mean using every possible ARS workflow
action/ui components etc) will be usable in thin client (If I want all users
to use only thin-client). Ideally I know whatever works in AR User is
supposed to work in thin-client also. Still to be very sure
2. Let’s say I have installed 7.0 mid-tier and then I plan to install 7.5
mid-tier later even before the app is migrated to ARS 7.5. Will this have
any issues or are there any checks I need to make pre and post installation
of mid-tier.

Happy and a peaceful weekend everyone
Cheers,
Naveen

Re: IIS config being corrupted

2010-06-04 Thread Smith, Ron [TBC]
When we first brought this version of Midtier up initially, I believe the
compatibility matrix said to use jdk 1.4.2_x. I know we had to do an update
back when the whole daylight savings change went on. We are currently on jdk
v. 1.4.2_15, the approved level for the DST issue. Ran on that for a couple of
more years without an issue. Until we had to swap out the servers and decided
to go with Win2003. When we first did the build, Win 2k3 was not on the
compatibility matrix, and I believe there were issues if you went with it. So
we stuck with Win 2k. But it ran fine for over 5 years without a hitch. This
issue just started after going with win 2k3 this year. Kind of strange.

Gary you might want to back off the JDK version. I think you can still get it
on Sun's website, but let me know if you need it.

re-installign the MT 6.3 P 21 that I'm also running, along with servlet exec

After installing JDK 1.6 (6u20), I begin to get the Service Unavailable
error also. I suspect that if you view your Event Log -> Application Log,
you'll see the errors.

I just checked, and for some reason, the errors I was seeing yesterday are
not being generated. If you go to
http://www.go4expert.com/forums/showthread.php?t=545 they have a little
write-up on it. It looks to be an issue maybe with VM. I tried doing what
all they suggested on the write-up (In the support.microsoft.com link), but
it didn't fix the issue. Also, I tried what the write-up itself stated,
setting isolation mode to run www service in iis 5.0 isolation mode. I tried
that awhile back and it totally messed up IIS where it would instantly crash
as soon as it came up.

You might look at that page though, some of the comments state that it
helped them, and they were using VM also.

I'd be interested in what you did if you get it working. Again, I only
started having this issue whenever I installed JDK 1.6 update 20. I did that
because whenever I went to re-install the MT to fix other issues which I was
having, I was heartily prompted with an error message stating no JDK was
installed and began to wonder if that was causing my issues with some of the
JSP pages not serving up.

If you are using Tomcat, then Use Apache web server. OR don't use Apache,
use Tomcat on Port 80 w/APR it will serve files just as fast. But if you
need a web server for other reasons, then try Apache - Tomcat combination,
the Mod)JK AJP protocol between Apache and Tomcat is a bit faster than the
IIS Tomcat redirector ISAPI.

Discovery 1.6 Database Query

Hi All,

I am trying to retrieve the processor description and host name for Linux

generate a report from discovery, however I need to do a direct query to the
SQL
database to retrieve Linux assets with a list of the: "Host name and the
Processor description out of the.datastore."

Does anyone know what query I can use to export this from SQL Server
Management Studio into an excel spreadsheet. I do not know the correct syntax.

I just need an excel file to contain all the Linux servers that are in the
datastore, and to view the host name, and processor description.

I tried exporting this from discovery, and it did not work successfully,.

Re: IIS config being corrupted

2010-06-04 Thread Opela, Gary L CTR USAF ABW 72 ABW/SCOOA
I installed JDK 1.6 trying to fix my issue with JSP pages, after
re-installign the MT 6.3 P 21 that I'm also running, along with servlet
exec 5.0 in a VM instance. I have the identical environment to you.

After installing JDK 1.6 (6u20), I begin to get the Service Unavailable
error also. I suspect that if you view your Event Log -> Application
Log, you'll see the errors.

I just checked, and for some reason, the errors I was seeing yesterday
are not being generated. If you go to
http://www.go4expert.com/forums/showthread.php?t=545 they have a little
write-up on it. It looks to be an issue maybe with VM. I tried doing
what all they suggested on the write-up (In the support.microsoft.com
link), but it didn't fix the issue. Also, I tried what the write-up
itself stated, setting isolation mode to run www service in iis 5.0
isolation mode. I tried that awhile back and it totally messed up IIS
where it would instantly crash as soon as it came up.

You might look at that page though, some of the comments state that it
helped them, and they were using VM also.

I'd be interested in what you did if you get it working. Again, I only
started having this issue whenever I installed JDK 1.6 update 20. I did
that because whenever I went to re-install the MT to fix other issues
which I was having, I was heartily prompted with an error message
stating no JDK was installed and began to wonder if that was causing my
issues with some of the JSP pages not serving up.

Anything that gets written to the Windows Event log (Application,

Re: Database Deadlocks

2010-06-04 Thread LJ LongWing
Mike,
Deadlocks occur when two things are trying to update the same record at the
same time and some condition isn't allowing one of them to continue. The db
decides to kill one of the updates so that the other can complete. I would
recommend running Filter/SQL to the same Log file and see if you can see the
updates and which workflow it's coming fromI have solved some of these
deadlock issues with indexing, others by using nolock hintsbut each
situation is different.

Thu Jun 3 17:31:06 2010 390603 : Deadlock during SQL operation to the

We have two ar servers. Noticed yesterday that escalations were running on
both (even though the configuration form showed that escalations should have
been disabled as well as the ar.conf). About 90 minutes after correcting
that, we found another deadlock message in the arerror log.

The oracle dump shows the deadlock to be on the T1605

during database update when saving incidents.

Server Version:7.1.00 Patch 008 200911120530

Has anyone ever seen anything like this or make any recommendations?

I recently tried to deploy a Midtier war file in Weblogic and it failed.
I'd set up the LD_LIBRARY_PATH (it's tedious that MT 7.5 still requires the
LD_LIBRARY_PATH, despite using the Java AR API and only relying on one or
two calls from the 'util' part of the API, rant rant), but it still failed.
I didn't get around to investigating the exception - I simply deployed it in
JBoss (have you considered JBoss?). However, I would be surprised if MT
"didn't work" in WL - it may involve pulling out jar files, native libs,
etc., from the war file. Why not try deploying the war and pasting the
exception that occurs when WL starts?

2010-06-04 Thread Ramey, Anne
$NumberOfDays$ is a field on the other (selected) form and does have a value.
It's when the filter is working incorrectly that the value isn't getting taken
from the selection form properly. I have a work around in place. I set
$NumberOfDays$ into an integer field on my form and then do the math on the
form as a current transaction. This works fine. I just wanted to know if I
was doing something wrong. It appears I may have found a bug. I may want to
open a ticket and see what BMC has to say.

My mid-tier logs show
Jun 4, 2010 8:19:57 AM - FINE (com.remedy.log.DVMODULE) : Exception while

I have the line
Plugin: /opt/ar/remedy/bin/reportplugin.so
in my ar.conf, and the plugin is apparently getting loaded (according to the
plugin log)--but when I actually try and run the reports they give the error
above. The port I use for plugins is open between the reporting/mid-tier
server and the ars is open (I just double checked).

I think I'm going to have to open a ticket. Any last ideas?

That redirect is probably the problem. My servers have the iisstart.htm in

My guess is that the redirect is interfering with the DefaultAppPool where
/crystalreportviewers11 is defined as one of the default applications (I have
three - root, /businessobjects, and /crystalreportviewers11. Try specifying

I guess that is the problem. The IIS server that does BOXI is multi-purpose

supposed to work in thin-client also. Still to be very sure
2.Let's say I have installed 7.0 mid-tier and then I plan to

Database Deadlocks

2010-06-04 Thread Sanders, Mike
The following message is being logged in the arerror log:

Thu Jun 3 17:31:06 2010 390603 : Deadlock during SQL operation to the
database (ARERR 566)

We have two ar servers. Noticed yesterday that escalations were running on
both (even though the configuration form showed that escalations should have
been disabled as well as the ar.conf). About 90 minutes after correcting that,
we found another deadlock message in the arerror log.

The oracle dump shows the deadlock to be on the T1605
(slm_slacompliancehistory) table. Users typically see ARERR 92 Timeout during
database update when saving incidents.

Server Version:7.1.00 Patch 008 200911120530
Operating System: SunOS 5.10
Database:Oracle 10g

Has anyone ever seen anything like this or make any recommendations?

Hmm ignore that, I re-read your thread and it would appear that what you
are saying is that $NumberOfDays$ does not have a value?

Is that correct?

2010-06-04 Thread Matt Worsdell
You are trying to add an integer to a Timestamp. Rather than do that split
the process, create a display only integer field (IntegerField) and
perform the following.

Set Fields IntegerField = $TIMESTAMP$
Set Fields IntegerField = IntegerField + (60*60*24*$NumberOfDays$)
Set Fields RequiredResolutionField = IntegerField

You can do this all in the same Filter.

If you ae using ITSM you may find a suitable DisplayOnly integer field you
can use is already created.

Required Resolution Date (date/time field) to

Required Resolution Date is on the current form, but $NumberOfDays$ is from the

Anne,
The reason it's changing back to 'current transaction' is because you aren't
setting a field on your form with a field from the searchit's an annoying

The filter log is not helpful, it just shows the field being set to the current
time stamp (because the value isn't being pulled from the form it's supposed to
be because the filter is incorrectly changing to "current transaction" from the
correct selection criteria). I didn't grab the SQL log, I'll have to do that

Anne,

Make sure that the field you have created is not a Date Only field but a Date
and Time field.. If its a Date Only field then your calculation should be
$DATE$*$NumberOfDays$.

The Date Only field type uses $DATE$ and is different from the Date and Time
field type which uses $TIMESTAMP$ for setting values to it..

I have a set fields action that just doesn't like what I'm setting the field
to. I'm trying to set a date field using math; I'm trying to set
Required Resolution Date (date/time field) to

date/time field, it works, but if I try and calculate time using timestamp, it
doesn't. According to abydos, if I put in the calucation, the other part of
the action changes from selecting from my form to "current transaction"--but
this is not reflected on the screen when looking at the filter in
administrator. I came up with a work around, but I wonder if this is expected
behavior, if I'm doing something wrong, or if I found a weird bug. Has anyone
else seen this type of thing before?

Notify Action - HTML/Plain Text?

2010-06-04 Thread Alkan, Koray
Hello together,

I need a fixed-width notification e-mail for some kind of a table by
using Notify action.
Is it possible that I can set the outgoing Notify E-mail to plain
text?
Or maybe can I use HTML formatting in the Notify text?

I tried adding HTML tags directly but it did not work.

Thanks in advance,
Koray
