The Venue is better than ever (and everyone loved it last year),

The content is even better than last year (and everyone thought last year's

Yes what they say is covered by their resort fee will be provided

and they have signed an addendum to fix all the (minor) issues from last

There was also a major clause to cover our internet access, which as Kelly

64bit linux (lx64) api still broke with 7.6.3?

2010-09-13 Thread Neulinger, Nathan
Been trying to get ARSperl working on a 64bit linux host for a while
(snapshots or CVS), but seem to still be having the various 64bit
issues, even with the latest 7.6.3 build of the ar API.

Does anyone here have any information on this?

I don't have any remedy/BMC support access as our AR server is hosted by
another campus in our system, but we do use the client and API.

Only information I have on the previous bug... is this still not
corrected in 7.6.3?

defect # SW00330613
Summary: Problems with 64 Bit AR API Libraries under Linux
Status: Open
Type: Product
Product: AR System
Target Release: Esc 7.5.0 Server
Classification Tentatively Targeted
Version: 7.5
Target Release Version: Future Patch Release

The symptom I have still is the can't encode arguments rpc error if the
login port isn't specified, and glibc double free errors. If I bypass
the glibc memory checks with MALLOC_CHECK env var, it looks like it's
still unable to connect properly.

I'd really like to get moved off of some legacy 32bit systems that are
having to be retained to run the AR api, but having to build an entire
separate 32bit perl isn't exactly a reasonable alternative.

ARSmarts 2.6 beta program

2010-09-13 Thread support

Hello List,

_The beta program for ARSmarts 2.6 is now open._

ARSmarts 2.6 expends the powerful functionalities of the Navigator, the
Documenter and the Grapher, already available in previous versions.

The main new functionality offered by ARSmarts 2.6 is the *support of
Views and Field Display Properties*. This means, for example, that you
can now search for a View Alias (which is what your end-user sees on the
screen) and for a given Field Label, find fields that have been moved
(using the Compare functionality of ARSmarts), and include this
information in your documentation (using ARSmarts Documenter).
Furthermore, ARSmarts 2.6 also includes a number of improvements, such
as the reduction in size of the ARSmarts compiled files (up to 90%
smaller), increased decode speed (up to 70% for large applications),

Don't hesitate to register on our website
(http://www.arsmarts.com/Register) to participate to the beta program.

Best regards.

Kaïs

ITSM v7.6: Behavior of Categorization Fields on CHG:Change Dialogs

2010-09-13 Thread JD Hood
Folks,

In Change Mgmt v7.6, using the best practices view for the
CHG:Infrastructure Change form in either new or modify mode, you get to
the Categorizations fields via a dialog in the Quick Links menu.

That dialog is the Categorizations View VUI of the CHG:Change Dialogs
form.

When it opens, I note that the Operational Cat Tier-1 and the Product-Name
fields both have the + in their field labels, indicating there is some
on-return functionality. However, it does nothing for me. Logging show
nothing is firing on-return either.

I checked Dev-Studio's Show Relationships feature and it lists quite a few
related active links for that field, but I didn't see any that had the
expected on-return functionality.

If you have access to a v7.6 ITSM or CHG-Mgmt system, would you be so kind
as to check that dialog and let me know if you have on-return
functionality on either of those fields? I'm just trying to verify what I'm
seeing to determine if it works as BMC intended or if something didn't
install right...

Thanks!

But I don't think we will be upgrading from 7.6.00 just yet, so I think I'll

 Dialogs

 ** Folks,

In Change Mgmt v7.6, using the best practices view for the
CHG:Infrastructure Change form in either new or modify mode, you get to
the Categorizations fields via a dialog in the Quick Links menu.

That dialog is the Categorizations View VUI of the CHG:Change Dialogs
 form.

When it opens, I note that the Operational Cat Tier-1 and the
Product-Name fields both have the + in their field labels, indicating
there is some on-return functionality. However, it does nothing for me.
Logging show nothing is firing on-return either.

I checked Dev-Studio's Show Relationships feature and it lists quite a
few related active links for that field, but I didn't see any that had the
 expected on-return functionality.

If you have access to a v7.6 ITSM or CHG-Mgmt system, would you be so
kind as to check that dialog and let me know if you have on-return
functionality on either of those fields? I'm just trying to verify what I'm
seeing to determine if it works as BMC intended or if something didn't
 install right...

  Thanks!

Re: ITSM v7.6: Behavior of Categorization Fields on CHG:Change Dialogs

2010-09-13 Thread JD Hood
Turns out, it's a fairly simple fix...

For the Operational Tier 1+ field, I only had to modifiy the one AL
Leonard mentioned (CHG:CRQ:ServiceCatTier1List_100_R0-Dialog) by adding
CHG:Change Dialogs to the form list.

For the Product Name+ field, little more involved, but still not too bad...

Check the AL's that start with, CHG:CRQ:ProdName(2)Search_0...

I just added the form CHG:Change Dialogs to the forms list (with the below
exception) and it worked.

For the one AL, CHG:CRQ:ProdName(2)Search_025_R5-, it wouldn't work when
I tried to share it (like you said, the field ID's were different). So, I
copied it to a new AL (save as) and replaced the form, so that the only
form listed was CHG:Change Dialogs. To fix the field ID problems, I modified
the Set-Fields qual to:

'Company' = $Location Company$) OR ('Company' = - Global -)) AND
($Location Company$ != $NULL$)) OR ($Location Company$ =  )) AND
(('Product Categorization Tier 1' = $z1D Char01$) OR ($z1D Char01$ = ))
AND (('Product Categorization Tier 2' = $z1D Char02$) OR ($z1D Char02$ =
)) AND (('Product Categorization Tier 3' = $z1D Char03$) OR ($z1D Char03$ =
 )) AND ('Status-PDC' = Enabled) AND ('Status-PDA' = Enabled) AND
('Product ID' = $z1D Char05$) AND ('Change Management Selection' = Yes)

So, unless BMC Support provides a different resolution, it seems to work for
the three use cases (no-match, single-match, multi-match). And it's easy
enough to roll-back in any event.

Thanks again!

Crystal Reports and Performance issues

2010-09-13 Thread Van Sickle, James W
Fellow ARSListers,

I have been trying to track down a problem with performance. We
appear to have located the problem coming from our Crystal Reports
server than runs multiple reports against Remedy every day. I have the
option enabled to put large result buffer entries in the Thread log
file. My goal was to see large queries being executed against the
Remedy database. What I found was that several entries in the log file
from the login used by our Crystal Reports server.

Has anyone see this behavior before?

It appears as if Crystal Reports is sending the same query over and over
again to Remedy for processing. I have seen a single report generate 3
dozen similar entries to what I have listed below. The report also eats
up over half of the CPU's processing power while this report is running.

our performance issues.

If the Crystal report in question contains sub reports then you will get
multiple queries. If the main reports result set contains lots of records then
you will get as many SQL calls for each of the sub reports. This is not out of
the ordinary.

Any insight or assistance to resolving why Crystal is doing this would be
much appreciated. I have used Crystal Reports in the past, but have never
been aware of any behavior like this. However, all of my tests point to the
reports being run through Crystal as the source of our performance issues.

Re: Crystal Reports and Performance issues

2010-09-13 Thread Patrick Zandi
Is it doing any tablescans? I see gfwe but what are the queries. Can you index
to help some? Is it the same table? Is it possible to pin that in memory oracle
wise to help with io. Just wondering.. You might have increase oracle memory
space to allow oracle to breath. Or is the ms?

If the Crystal report in question contains sub reports then you will get
multiple queries. If the main reports result set contains lots of records
then you will get as many SQL calls for each of the sub reports. This is not
 out of the ordinary.

 Fellow ARSListers,

I have been trying to track down a problem with performance. We appear
to have located the problem coming from our Crystal Reports server than runs
multiple reports against Remedy every day. I have the option enabled to put
large result buffer entries in the Thread log file. My goal was to see
large queries being executed against the Remedy database. What I found was
that several entries in the log file from the login used by our Crystal
 Reports server.

Has anyone see this behavior before?

It appears as if Crystal Reports is sending the same query over and over
again to Remedy for processing. I have seen a single report generate 3
dozen similar entries to what I have listed below. The report also eats up
over half of the CPU’s processing power while this report is running.

Re: Developer studio encounter out of memory error while importing a whole Appliaction

2010-09-13 Thread Jason Miller
Hi Jiang,

Did you have a chance to try your import with Dev Studio 7.6.03? I'll be
interested to see if the import issues are the same as the export issues.

Today I tried 7.6.03 Dev Studio against our 7.5 patch 5 server with IM, AM
and SLM. It ends up being 55,240 objects. I set the max in devstudio.ini to
-Xmx3072m and DS started!!! That was a good sign seeing as the max with 32
bit jvm seems to be around -Xmx1568m.

The javaw.exe process ranged from 1,101,920k to 1,102,984k and didn't take
up as much memory as I expected it to.

After about 2 hours it ended up giving the following error before the def
file was ever started:
An internal error occurred during: Export Objects.
java.nio.BufferUnderflowException

I found some references to a BufferUnderflow bug in Eclipse, 262875 (
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=262875). It talks about being
available in Eclipse ver 2.0.2 on 2010-06-29 and DS appears to use Eclipse
3.4 but I wonder if it exists in 3.x and if DS has been updated post fix?

I am trying again right now. May need to submit this one to BMC for review?

Can anybody else confirm they have been able to export a large def file
using DS 7.6.03?

Jason

Yes, 7.6.03 can work with a 64 bit jvm.

I have not tried importing a large/full def but have had the same issue
exporting a large/full def with prior versions. I plan on to trying a full
def export with 7.6.03 in the next few days. I'll report back on how it
 works.
