Create SLM Milestones / Actions via API

2011-02-17 Thread Mario Röhr
Hi Listers,

I need to create Service Level Targets via API.
I already managed to create a Service Target without related Milestones and
Actions with a VB application

Now I would like to create also the related Milestones and Actions within the
Service Target with this application. But this seems to be some how complicated.

Does any of you know how to do this via API?
Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks.

Mario

If I am not wrong, you need to get your IP of your email server added to the

Hello Listers,

our partner is using Web Methods and to consume our Web Service.

They're saying that Web Methods has a bug and is therefore protesting,
when the attributes have a prefix.

Because of this definition (ARS Standard)

http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/
soap/" xmlns:soapenc="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/";
xmlns:wsdl="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/"; xmlns:xsd="http://
www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">

they see s0 in front of every attribute.

Is there a workaround? I haven't found any...

Thanks
Mark

BMC Analytics version 7.6.1 reporting against AR/ITSM 7.6.04

2011-02-17 Thread Chowdhury, Tauf
This question may be more for David Easter but if anyone else knows the
answer, feel free!:

Although AR and ITSM are upgraded to 7.6.04, Analytics is still at the
last released version which is 7.6.1. With the release of ITSM 7.6.04,
specifically CMDB, there is an addition of a new "class" for Service
Offerings. My question is if Analytics will soon include an update to
include reporting objects to keep up with the releases of the ITSM
products such as 7.6.04.

Thanks in advance.

Re: macro / reports :: 7.6.04

2011-02-17 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
Yes ARSPerl is one option. You can also just use Perl and SOAP::Lite to call
an ARS Web Service.

Another option, depending on whether the outside system's person needs to be
able to update/review the data passed, is just opening a web browser and
passing the data.
i.e.

2011-02-17 Thread Jason Miller
David,

One of the great features of runmacro is you can export all fields from a
form without needing a template (or anything other than the form name and
credentials for that matter).

I still use a little AR app I created years ago that does a table loop and
calls runmacro to export data (image
https://sites.google.com/site/jasonmilja2/RmdyExportData.jpg). We use it
for a quick data backup before migrating a change to production, quickly
backing up configuration data as well as "just in case" DR .arx files of the
really critical data.

I have one machine left where this app works because it is my last machine
with the Admin Tool 8-)

My plan has been post it on the BMCDN for a while (once I get it
distribution worthy). With runmacro becoming harder to find it may never
make it there :(

Okay, I see that a style can be set for an application. Maybe that's
what would need to be done, and not set it individually per form.

Re: New AST form but no workflow?

2011-02-17 Thread Luttmann, Michael W Mr CTR DISA CD553
I had this issue and the problem is related to application permissions.
The usual fix for this is to modify (not simply open) the application
"Remedy Asset Inventory", where all AST forms reside. Your new class
forms will likely not be included. (If they are, remove them.) Modify
the application form list by adding your forms, then save the
application. This should apply the needed role-permissions to all the
objects on your new class forms. Note: This takes a lot of CPU, so be
careful if doing this on your production system!

I don't know about 1., but on 2. you can select to use the 32-bit jvm for Email
if you need MAPI, or the Developer Studio if you need OLE. You can still
select to use the 32-bit JVM for the plugin server, which was the ONLY option
on 7.6.03. You just need to have both the 32-bit and 64-bit JDKs installed
before you start; the 7.6.0x installer automatically detects the paths to both
versions. You get the same choice of JVMs when you get to mid-tier in the
install, in case your web server is still 32-bit.

Good morning,

I'm building out the specs for my new servers for my upgrade to 7.6.04, and
I've got a few questions that don't seem to be answerable by looking at the
Compatibility Matrix or BMC's knowledge base. If anyone could help me answer
these I would greatly appreciate it.

1. Can AR System leverage Intel's hyperthreading technology? I know this
is a simple thing to turn off if it doesn't work, but using it would require us
to purchase more RAM than if we didn't use it, and I'd prefer to use it because
of the performance gains if possible.

2. The Compatibility Matrix states that if you use a 64-bit JVM, you can
not use MAPI for the Email Engine. Does this mean that I should get a 32-bit
OS and do everything at 32-bit, or just that I can do everything 32-bit except
for the JVM, in order to process MAPI emails? If you have experience with this
I would greatly appreciate hearing about it.

Thanks,

Re: macro / reports :: 7.6.04

2011-02-17 Thread Jason Miller
Hi Patrick,

Arr files can be created from the ReportCreator form. The Mid-Tier
automatically adds a report button to the form (it can be disabled) which
takes you to the ReportSelection console where you can create a native
report. Once you save the report a record is created in the Report form
with an .arr attachment.

As for .arq... R.I.P...

At WWRUG10 I talked with some of the BMC engineers about the other uses of
runmacro besides running macros. Namely exporting data. Apparently I
wasn't the first person to mention it that night and even while we were
talking people were coming up and asking about it. It seemed to be an eye
opener that there is a such a demand to replace the easy command line export
functionality of runmacro. Hopefully that night made an impact however
anybody who needs this functionality should submit RFE to make sure the
market demand is officially recorded.

First introduced in AR System 7.5.00, you can link your saved searches to a
report through Reports Console on the web. This will enable the equivalent of
macros to run reports.

Re: Performance matrix

2011-02-17 Thread Tommy Morris
I used the wrong wording there, it's actually called an Execution Plan
but I think of it as a path being mapped through your database.
Databases store execution plans to help them run repetitive statements
more efficiently.

The database's CBO takes each SQL statement that it receives and creates
an "execution plan" that it uses to run through the data. The CBO then
stores that plan so that the next time that statement comes in it
already knows how to run it. Sometimes the stored plan is not the best
optimized plan and can be tweaked. Oracle uses EXPLAIN PLAN, in MSSQL
you can view the execution plan and optimize it through Query Analyzer.

You can read about Oracle's explain plan here
http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/8i/ExplainPlanUsage.php

hi ,

thanks all for the inputs, I am currently using AR Log analyzer for my
analysis would like to see what RRR team has in the tool (Misi can i

have few questions though,

1) The application is running since 8 years almost ( ARS 5.0.1 on
SOLARIS/Oracle 9)
2) When we say i need to check my indexes on all the heavy forms what do
i
exactly need to do i know i have some 30 index fields set on one of my
heavy
form i am sure its causing problems but not sure how do i tweak it.
3) I see a lot of errors in my arerror.log file which says "too many
filters
executed" if i am not wrong they indicate filter looping or is there any
other issue. Will increasing the filter stack size to 400 from current
200
help?
4) We are also planning to increase the fast tread count to 16 from 12
and
reduce the list thread count to 16 from 20 will it help?
5) And Tommy last one is for you, I am not aware of what exactly is
execution paths for oracle and its optimization do we have this on
oracle 9.

We have already turned off the unqualified searches and working on
setting

not
seem to have made a dent in my issue.

Re: Remedy 7.6.04 and Hyperthreading, MAPI

2011-02-17 Thread strauss

How to get rid of s0 in an ARS Web Service?

2011-02-17 Thread Mark Milke
Hello Listers,

our partner is using Web Methods and to consume our Web Service.

They're saying that Web Methods has a bug and is therefore protesting,
when the attributes have a prefix.

Because of this definition (ARS Standard)

soap/" xmlns:soapenc="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/";
xmlns:wsdl="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/"; xmlns:xsd="http://

they see s0 in front of every attribute.

Is there a workaround? I haven't found any...

Radio button field just shows first button, sometimes - SOLVED sort of

2011-02-17 Thread Martin, Dwayne - martinrd
I did try deleting the .arf and .arv files, but that didn't help, so I
submitted the problem to BMC Support. They suggested upgrading to the latest
WUT version (7.6 p3) but that didn't help either. Meanwhile a PC expert took a
look at the issue and suggested this:
Rt-click on the WUT launching icon, click the "Compatibility" page, check "Run
this program. . ." and select "Windows XP (Service Pack3)#."
This fixed the two machines that were displaying the problem, but doesn't
explain why all Win 7 machines don't have the problem. (Maybe the compatibility
mode was already checked.)
I suggested that BMC look into this as a possible bug.
Thanks to all who replied.

Dear List,

We have a radio button field with 9 options, that is supposed to look like this:
[cid:image005.jpg@01CBBBAA.8DA61F60]
But about 2/3 of the time it appears like this:
[cid:image006.jpg@01CBBBAA.8DA61F60]
Only the circle of the first option appears. If you close the window and
re-open it a few times it eventually appears properly. This is a regular
database field on a regular database form. So far we've only seen this happen
on one machine (Win 7), but this form normally only gets opened on that one
machine. It happens in both WUT 7.1 and 7.5. So far we haven't seen it in Mid
Tier, but haven't tried it that often.

Any ideas?

Re: Atrium Console.. a one off

2011-02-17 Thread Guillaume Rheault
As long as BMC keeps the CMDB:Console, I'll be a happy camper.
We were never able to get the flash Atrium console working, probably because we
were one of the first customers to go with 7.5, and all the bugs were not fixed
back then.
We attempted to make it work, but could not, and BMC support was stumped back
then; so in the end, we use the good ol' cmdb:console.
Eventually we will upgrade to 7.6.4 or whatever comes next, and we'll hope it
works well.

If the cmdb :console was not available in 7.5, we probably would have remained
at 7.0.3...

Not sure what to think of Atrium console, while its a slick bit of
Flash. Its a one off.
Its not a true application that can be directly modded by the
Developer Studio.
Not entirely sure why we did this Flash application. Who are we trying
to impress?
We should have stuck with what you could develop from the Developer
Studio.
I always enable the CMDB:Console in addition to the Atrium Console.

How to do "Double" Dynamic values?

2011-02-17 Thread Shawn Stonequist
Greetings List!

I tried searching the archives for this, but always came up with too much or
not enough, so I must not be searching for the right thing.

Basically, I have add a "From" field to our ARS version 6.3 "AR System Email
Template" form so that the "From" can be set without needing to make changes
in AR Admin client.

The end result is going to be to give managers of departments the ability to
maintain their own notifications (they update an interface, it pushes values
and HTML templates to the AR System Email Template form, and those values
are used in the notification Filter/Escalation).

While this currently works great for hardcoded values (e.g.
supp...@company.com), its not working so great for dynamic values (e.g.
$User's Email$)- it is coming out "from" $User's email$@company.com - I
mean, it is this exactly, not being translated to the value on the Form in
the 'User's Email' address field. If a Manager changes their mind (again)
and changes from a dynamic value to a hard value (or vice verse), I have to
keep going into AR Admin to change

How do I essentially do a "double dynamic", to make it recognize the value
as a Field variable instead of a solid value? Maybe I am going about this
the wrong way?

I thought of doing a push back to the Template, but would prefer not to, as
I don't want to risk two users activating the same notification at the same
time, and the "External" Function isn't available (only Keywords and fields)

Any thoughts?

As always, thank you all so much in advance for any help you can provide!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: ARS Client 7.6 Copy/Paste Issues

2011-02-17 Thread White, Michael W (Mike)
We noticed another manifestation of this copy/paste bug. If you paste the
maximum number of characters into a field, it truncates the last. Our UAT
testers noticed it when pasting 15-character Request IDs for searches.
Repeatable.

Shawn,
I noticed the same behavior when the 7.6.3 client came out...to fix it I
went back to the 7.5 client. What version of 7.6 are you seeing this on?

Subject: ARS Client 7.6 Copy/Paste Issues

Greetings List!

We are upgrading from 6.3 to 7.6 (finally!)

We are upgrading clients first, since they are compatible with the 6.3
server and we are unable to upgrade everything simultaneously.

One thing we noticed is that when users of 7.6 clients copy/paste from
emails, websites, etc., strange characters are being added- everything from
"c" and "." to "&", "%", "{", and even non-Western characters (I think I
even saw the Japanese Yen symbol once). Unfortunately, I couldn't find
anything in the BMC KM or the List Archives (not really even sure what to
look for) so apologies if this is a repeat.

It seems completely random- not specific to plain text, rich text, or HTML
text being copied (in my own personal experience).

The issue this presents is that the extra character causes false negative
responses in workflow objects. For example, if an email address is
copied/pasted, "Enter" key is pressed, previous contacts from that email
address should be returned, but the extra character make this false (as well
as prevents the current contact from being presented when this process
occurs for the same address in the future).

And since it does not *always* add a character, I can't even write a
workflow object to strip the last character off. Once we were aware of what
was happening, of course we had users remove the character themselves (but
you know how silly those human beings can be- they always forget or miss
some here and there ;) ).

Any thoughts/ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help!
