Re: Using of Vendor form .............

2011-06-07 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

If you have the same database vendor on both sides, creating a database
link (or whatever it is called in your db) should allow you to access the
data via a View-form.

Vendor-integrations takes a lot of time to do from scratch.

There are 3rd party vendor form connectors to various databases out there,
maybe you should look at one of these?

If this is only historical data, I would go for one of these solutions
instead:

1. Create regular history forms in your current database, and import the
data into your active AR Server

2. Create html pages of your data and store on your intranet. This can be
done using RRR|ArxToHTML, but will require form definitions and arx files
of your data: https://www.rrr.se/cgi/tools/main#rrrArxToHTML

Disabling Audit when importing records into Audit form

2011-06-07 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

As the system prevents you to import records into an audit form, I am
trying to find the best way to disable the audit functionality via the
API.

One problem is that the audit form may have several parents, and it seems
necessary to go through the audit properties of all forms in the system,
in order to find all parents. Then you need to disable the audit
temporarily on all parents. This is both slow and complex to restore if
something goes wrong.

I found the constant AR_AUDIT_FORCE_DISABLE in ar.h.

Anyone knows how to use it?

/* Bit mask for audit set option */
#define AR_AUDIT_FORCE_DISABLE 0x0001
/* Forcfully disable the audit on the base form */
/* though the audit on the dependent form is enabled */

Re: Developer Studio: Can the outline of form be exported to excel/word/etc?

2011-06-07 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

If you export your forms to an arx-file, RRR|DefFieldList utility can
convert it to a format suitable for Excel.

Download at: https://www.rrr.se/cgi/tools/main#rrrDefFieldList

usage: rrrDefFieldList [ -splitrows ] file.def [ result.{skv|txt|xls} ]

Using the def-file, a list of all data fields are produced with various
information.

The listed information includes information about Form, Id, Name, Label,
Type, Option, Length, Enum-values, Default, Pattern and Menu of each
field.

-splitrows option will make separate rows for each selection-field-value
and/or label.

The TXT-format produces a tab separated list (default).
The SKV-format produces a semicolon separated list.
The XLS-format produces an MS Excel file.

Escalations - question over create time and timestamps

2011-06-07 Thread daddy.bar...@gmail.com
I have an escalation that is almost working fine, but appears to be generating
some inconsistent date/time values.

Within the escalation, it has a push fields creating an audit record of an sla
failure, and putting $timestamp$ in an event date time field.

The problem appears to be that the system generated create date, that i would
normally assume to be close to the timestamp value, very definitely isn't.
We're seeing some large discrepancies.

For example :
create date 6/6/2011 at 19.23:29
timestamp 6/6/2011 at 19.12:55

any suggestions as to what could be causing such a large discrepancy in what
should be identical values?

Re: Process Question - Problem Assignee vs Assigned Group

2011-06-07 Thread Guillaume Rheault
Hi Nathan,

I ran into the same issue. BTW, this situation you are describing is also
present in ITSM 7.6.4.

Fortunately, the fix for this is simple. With the user tool, open form
SYS:Status Transition Rules, and do the following query:

'Reference Form' = PBM:Problem Investigation

You will see all the valid status transitions per role.

So what you got to do, is manually create additional status transition entries
for the Application Manager role.

As you can see, there are many more status transition rules for the
Application Assignee role than the Application Manager role.
In our case, I created the missing status transition entries, so that
Application Manager has the same status transitions as the Application
Assignee

We already did this in ITSM 7.5.1, and tested this and found no issues. This
fix should work well in ITSM 7.6.0, 7.6.3 and 7.6.4.

FYI, I had very long and quite frankly heated conversations with BMC Support on
this, because I wanted to categorize this as a defect;
Initially, BMC support did not want to categorize this as a defect, but in the
end they did.

I believe I also submitted an RFE.

Generally speaking, I feel the problem module has not been UA tested enough by
BMC to uncover this kind if silliness and inconsistencies.

Hope this helps

Guillaume

**

I've got kind of a theoretical/process oriented question regarding the problem
management process as implemented in the Remedy Problem Mgt module. In the
tool, workflow enforces that an assignee (or assigned group member) cannot
update the PBI until it is moved to an Under Investigation status. However,
the Problem Coordinator cannot simply assign to a group and move to Under
Investigation... the coordinator is forced to assign an individual (or let the
assignment engine do it). This workflow basically prevents a queue
mentality where items are assigned to the group and picked up by available
group members or assigned out by a queue manager. Our issue is the Problem
Coordinator does not have intimate knowledge of the support groups
availability/skill sets so is forced to contact the group manager or a SME to
find out the appropriate assignee which introduces a lot of additional manual
communication efforts that would be alleviated if he could simply assign to the
Support Group and let them manage it from there and pick their own assignee.
Anyone encountered this and what did you come up with in terms of a
process/workaround? Thanks. Nathan

Questions

Is the CSV file on the server or client?

Is it a static file or is the file modified over time?

What database? What version?

Possible Answers
Hopefully the file resides on the server?.. If so AIE would be an easy tool to
use to pump the file into a resident table within the ARS created for that..

If the file is on the client you may have some limitations.. You could view the
file using the view field, and there are a few things you may be able to do on
viewing the file.. Something you may have to play around with.. Running AIE
jobs from a client if this file is on every user client is not really a
feasible solution..

If you are using MS-SQL as the underlying database, MS-SQL had DTS (data
transformation services) that could read csv files to update database tables.
That could be another option – Having said that, DTS was taken away from the
post 7.x versions of MS-SQL, but I think Microsoft replaced it with some other
tool that does similar stuff..

Compound qualification for a GetList web service

2011-06-07 Thread L G Robinson
Hi Folks,

I need some help formulating a qualification for a GetList web service.
Simplistically, I want to do the following:

   (XPATH(/ROOT/Qualification)) AND ('distribution' != Internal)

But this is not syntactically correct. In words, I want to take whatever
qualification the user has supplied and add the:

   ('distribution' != Internal)

clause to the qualification that gets passed to the service. 'distribution'
is a field on the form being searched.

Is there a syntax for this? Is it possible to build something like this
using EXTERNAL()?

I am just learning about creating and consuming ARS web services so any
guidance and/or insights will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

It (RRR|ArxToHTML) costs zero, but you will not be able to do regular
Remedy-searches in your data.

Depending on your layout requirements rrrArxToHTML may or may not fit your
needs.

You may import a sub-set of the data into your current Remedy instance to
allow limited searches, and then have links to show the actual ticket
content.

Or you may have some other google-type thing index your data to allow full
text search in some web page.

If the layout of the ArxToHTML-conversion does not fit, you can always

 Hi,

If you have the same database vendor on both sides, creating a database
link (or whatever it is called in your db) should allow you to access
 the
 data via a View-form.

Vendor-integrations takes a lot of time to do from scratch.

There are 3rd party vendor form connectors to various databases out
 there,
maybe you should look at one of these?

If this is only historical data, I would go for one of these solutions
 instead:

 1. Create regular history forms in your current database, and import the
data into your active AR Server

 2. Create html pages of your data and store on your intranet. This can
 be
done using RRR|ArxToHTML, but will require form definitions and arx
 files
 of your data: https://www.rrr.se/cgi/tools/main#rrrArxToHTML

AIE Mapping Against Base Element

2011-06-07 Thread Kevin Begosh
List,
Has anyone built a AIE mapping against BMC_BaseElement. I have a mapping
built against Computer System and I want to use it for a number of other
classes. Instead of building it a bunch of times I was thinking lean and
trying to create it once against base element.

I have a Primary Key of Lets say Asset ID and two data mapping fields and
that is it. I am not creating records only updating. When I look at the
logs it looks as if AIE cannot find the file and it tries to create it. The
ARSystem count is 0 when it should be 1. This same mapping runs against the
computer system class and works fine.

Any ideas, is there a step with Base Element I am missing. I have built
workflow against Base Element that modified and created records and had no
problems. I can also build a staging form that can handle this but I wanted
to have it handled in AIE mapping since I am only updated a field or two and
that is it.

Midtier 7.6.4

We just updated to Midtier 7.6.4 from 7.5 p4 (we are still on AR Server 7.5 p4).

Is anyone else experiencing this? (see below)

I'm getting a Caught exception:Object doesn't support this Property or method.

When I got rid of the Close Window Action (in an Active Link), this error went
away.

I'm also getting a Caugh exception:Permission denied error when a
PERFORM-ACTION-EXIT-APP action is performed.

I haven't gotten rid of that action, but I bet when I do, I won't see this
error anymore.

Of course this wasn't happening with 7.5 p4

Re: Escalations - question over create time and timestamps

2011-06-07 Thread Remedy
The escalation processes through all the records in the form, and completes
it's tasks where a record matches the qualification.

Your timestamp is when the workflow hit that record and populated the time at
that moment, and the createdate is when the push was committed to the database.

In-between those times, there is the time that other workflow will get
triggered and run.

For example, turn on logging and push to bmc_computersystem, You will see work
flow hit all the classes between it and base_element. The time adds up by the
time it's done.

Turn on filter and SQL logging just before escalation runs and then off when
done. Load the logs and trace through one record. You will see why there is a
difference.

Hi Larry,

Yes you can do it.

In qualification bar, you should have an option of using either the field from

What you mentioned below should work.

Hi Folks,
I need some help formulating a qualification for a GetList web service.
Simplistically, I want to do the following:

   (XPATH(/ROOT/Qualification)) AND ('distribution' != Internal)
But this is not syntactically correct. In words, I want to take whatever
qualification the user has supplied and add the:

   ('distribution' != Internal)
clause to the qualification that gets passed to the service. 'distribution' is
a field on the form being searched.

Is there a syntax for this? Is it possible to build something like this using
EXTERNAL()?
I am just learning about creating and consuming ARS web services so any
guidance and/or insights will be greatly appreciated.

If you are just updating and do not wish the OOB filters to kick off the
Base Element is safe enough to import to from AIE. I recently imported
around 400k assets from a 5.5 system into CMDB 7.6p1 and the only way
that I could pull it off in a timely manner was to run them into BE. I
imported them into the BMC.SANDBOX dataset and let the OOB
reconciliation jobs pull them into BMC.ASSET. Worked great.

mapping built against Computer System and I want to use it for a number
of other classes. Instead of building it a bunch of times I was
thinking lean and trying to create it once against base element.

I have a Primary Key of Lets say Asset ID and two data mapping fields
and that is it. I am not creating records only updating. When I look
at the logs it looks as if AIE cannot find the file and it tries to
create it. The ARSystem count is 0 when it should be 1. This same
mapping runs against the computer system class and works fine.

Any ideas, is there a step with Base Element I am missing. I have built
workflow against Base Element that modified and created records and had
no problems. I can also build a staging form that can handle this but I
wanted to have it handled in AIE mapping since I am only updated a field
or two and that is it.

Service Targets:able to import all the info , except for Actions !

2011-06-07 Thread Ghana
Hi Folks,

Am able to import service targets from 7.1 to 7.6.04 ( we have to port all
the Incidents from 7.1 along with associated service targets ( that is the
Challenge )

but, except for the Actions , All other Information is getting Imported.

have followed the BMC procedure, some how the Actions are not getting
populated !

1. Can we keep the TimeStamps as in old set-up (7.1) and keep the SLA
working after moving the incidents
to new environment(7.6.04) of those tickets which are, say still NOT
resolved ?

Any suggestions / recommendations .

Rgds-Ghana.

Re: Midtier 7.6.4

2011-06-07 Thread Shelston, Patrick
Probably stating the obvious, but have you cleared browser and mid-tier
cache after the upgrade?

I've seen some of these errors on occasion if I haven't flushed my local
browser cache after a code change.

We just updated to Midtier 7.6.4 from 7.5 p4 (we are still on AR Server
7.5 p4).

Is anyone else experiencing this? (see below)

I'm getting a Caught exception:Object doesn't support this Property or
method.

When I got rid of the Close Window Action (in an Active Link), this
error went away.

I'm also getting a Caugh exception:Permission denied error when a
PERFORM-ACTION-EXIT-APP action is performed.

I haven't gotten rid of that action, but I bet when I do, I won't see
this error anymore.

Of course this wasn't happening with 7.5 p4
